“Yaadman Kingsize” – Yung L features Wizkid, Shank, Seun Kuti in new Album.

Advertisements

Nigerian singer Christopher Omenye, better known as Yung L, has released his much-awaited sophomore album, “Yaadman Kingsize”.

For the 11-track project, Yung L features Wizkid, Seun Kuti, Shank, Abood Khiery, Sammany Hajo, Rashid Omar and UK’s, Tiggs Da Author.

Yaadman Kingsize is, ultimately, the metamorphosis of Yung L’s Mr. Marley persona but on the album, there is more of the tinkering that he started on his debut, “Better Late Than Ever”.

Advertisements

Without sacrificing rigour, Yung L distils reggae, rock, afro-fusion, and afrobeat for a memorable showing. On “Yaadman (Intro),” the project’s opener, he is confessional and in prime sing-rapping form as he loops in billowing horns to add a backdrop to his energetic verse.

Yung L is a unique totem in afro-fusion’s gallery. Infinitely capable of switching between the more core drumming of Afropop and the genre’s broader reggae influence, Yung L has a special place among the generation of musicians diversifying the sound of music coming out of West Africa.

Juice and Zimm, Yung L’s January 2020 seven-song extended play, was bursting at its seams with soulfully-distilled riddims and ear-worms that often read like confessionals and slow-flickering party starters. Months later, the lustrous energy of “Eve Bounce” received a remix do-over; housing a guest from none other than Wizkid.

“Puna” and “Opp” are perfect examples of Yung L’s affinity for open-ended rock fusions that provide a base for his forward-thinking delivery. “Rasta,” a collaboration with foremost afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, is similarly innovative, leaning on the call-and-response that made the genre one of the most acclaimed of its era.

Advertisements

Within Yaadman Kingsize, the “Eve Bounce (Remix)” maintains its sweltering energy, and the candour of “Police and Thief” brings a focus to the fundamental breach of trust that triggered last year’s momentous #EndSARS protests.

“Land of Light,” the stunning hymnal that closes Yaadman Kingsize is an indicator of the care taken to craft his sophomore album and, after the highs and lows of 2020, it is a pleasant, entertaining way to open 2021.

EndSARs: Adeboye expresses displeasure at Nigerian forces amid Lekki Massacre.

Advertisements

Adeboye in a statement released on Wednesday noted that the actions of the security operatives have worsened the situation.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, pastor Enoch Adeboye, has reacted to the attack on End SARS Protesters at the Lekki tollgate on Tuesday night.

The cleric condemned the actions of the Nigerian military and the police.

The cleric called on the youths to stay calm and avoid any illegal act.

He wondered why the police was yet to arrest attackers of peaceful protesters across Nigeria.

“I condemn in the strongest possible terms, attacks launched by the Nigerian military on unarmed young people, who have been peacefully protesting police brutality over the last 12 days as #EndSARS protests.”

Advertisements

“I am confounded that prior to the sad events at the #LekkiTollGate, the Nigeria Police failed to arrest the weapon-bearing hoodlums who were attacking the well-organized and non-violent #EndSARS protesters.”

“The condemnable actions of the military risks driving the agitations of the young people underground, thereby making the situation unmanageable.”

“I call on the Federal Government to thoroughly investigate the tragic events at Lekki and other parts of the country, give justice to all victims even as it engages the #EndSARS protesters to reach a common agreement to end police brutality.”

“I am also appealing to the Youths to allow peace reign & stop any form of action that would give the military any other form of excuse to attack”, the cleric wrote.
