Rolling stone award: Burna Boy makes top artist ‘128’ out of 500.

Grammy nominated Nigerian singer, Ogulu Damini, professionally known as Burna Boy has made Nigerians proud again after his appearance on the Rolling Stone Top 500 Artists chart this week, landing at Number 128.

This comes after he released his new album, “Twice as Tall” executive produced by American rapper cum producer, P. Diddy.

NRM learnt that he Debuted number 1 on world albums on billboard and number 54 on billboard hot 200.

The Rolling Stone Artists 500 chart ranks the most-streamed artists of the week in the United States, taking into account audio streams across an artist’s entire catalog during the tracking period.

According to Elias Leight of Rolling Stone, Burna Boy pulled in a total of 14.8 million streams between August 14th and August 20th in the U.S.

The singer’s numbers for Twice as Tall show steady growth since last year’s Grammy-nominated African Giant, which has earned more than 100,000 album-equivalent units in the 13 months since its release.

Twice as Tall debuted at Number 54 on the Top 200 Albums Chart, amassing 11.4 million audio streams Stateside, an increase of around 50 percent relative to African Giant‘s opening week of 8.5 million.

During Twice as Tall‘s first week, “Monsters You Made,” a bracing track featuring Coldplay’s Chris Martin, proved to be the album’s most popular song, earning more than a million audio streams in the U.S.

It was followed by “Way Too Big,” a syncopated missile co-written by the super-producer Timbaland and the longtime Kanye West collaborator Mike Dean, and “Level Up (Twice as Tall),” the blunt album-opener, which each earned more than 850,000 streams.

These numbers reflect Burna Boy’s growing profile, which has expanded in the U.S. through a combination of relentless touring (pre-pandemic) and savvy collaborations with acts like Future, YG, and Naughty by Nature, among others.

“One thing that’s constant [in my career] is growth,” Burna Boy told Rolling Stone in 2019. “It’s not an up and down thing. I climbed every step. I don’t skip steps — I’m too heavy to skip steps.”

“This Burna boy lyric spills homophobia back to back.

I been sensed it.

Stop making excuses for Burna boy because you like his music.

Historically, gay people were called weak because they’re not attracted to women and many gay men could only be involved in anal sex.

Also, telling all of us you’re straight after having a song with Sam Smith”

The refrain of the track goes;

“I no be one of those men wey dey fear toto fuck nyash

See more reactions below;

@UnekwuojoJimmy: This Burna Boy has shown time and time again that he is an insensitive, ignorant and razz little shit. Now his homophobia has jumped out… again!

But because he is your fave and you want to vibe so desperately to his mediocre music, you will unlook all his BS.

Advertisements

@TrophyHusbandD: Homophobic lines in music are so silly because they almost never add anything of value to the song…. But now a potentially good song becomes a source of pain or discomfort for your fans.

@fendihoe_: Not people being dishonest and gas lighting this tweet……..is it not on this same TL people were questioning his collab with Sam Smith Bc we all know he’s homophobic?

@Stepharney2: So you can go about screaming you’re gay and rainbowing up but the straight people can’t?

You’re the only one with the rights to state your sexuality in people’s faces?

The actual hypocrisy…. Burna Boy

The album on Boomplay had a caption showing Burna Boy describing it as “the album about a period of time in my life. It’s an album about the struggle for freedom. It’s an album about life in general, real life, good times, bad times, happy times, sad times, great times.”

“As you can imagine, the Nigerian artist felt like worldwide royalty when he was approached by the Queen B — um, yes, Beyoncé — to work with her on last year’s “The Lion King: The Gift” album.”

She wrote: “I love Beyonce as the next person but you are wrong with this ..Beyonce-endorsed Burna Boy “makes” a whole AFROBEAT go international. such a think piece let down by the headline. Do better.”
