Thiago release clause is massive but Liverpool impresses

Liverpool will shell out an initial £20million for Thiago Alcantara as the longest running transfer saga of their summer comes to an end.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the Bayern Munich midfielder since before the end of last season, when he helped the German giants win their sixth Champions League crown in the revamped end to the tournament in Lisbon.

The former Barcelona midfielder effectively said goodbye to the club after that, as his seven year spell – in which he had won seven Bundesliga titles – was seen to be coming to an end.

But with one year left on his Bayern contract, a game of brinkmanship between Liverpool and Bayern began, with the Reds’ sporting director Michael Edwards becoming renowned in the game for driving a hard bargain.

The result is an impressive deal which will see one of the game’s most revered central midfielders move to Anfield at a knockdown price.

The 29-year-old will sign a four-year contract at Liverpool, with his guaranteed £20million price take being paid over the course of that deal, meaning the Reds have only shelled out £5million upfront.

The remaining £6million of the £26million deal comes in performance related clauses and bonuses that could have to be paid to the German champions.

These include the Reds winning both the Premier League and Champions League again as Thiago plays a significant part in the victories.

There are also triggers relating to individual prizes that he may win while he’s at Liverpool, including the Ballon d’Or.

With the midfielder due on Merseyside for his medical, he could make his debut in next Thursday’s Carabao Cup third round tie at Lincoln City.

The Reds then face Arsenal in the Premier League at Anfield on Monday, September 28.

‘I’m Happy at Bayern’ – Thiago hints a Spoiler

Thiago Alcantara may yet remain a Bayern Munich player rather than move to Liverpool or Manchester United.

The gifted Spaniard has been heavily linked to both Premier League rivals and there is an expectation that he will leave Bayern having helped deliver the Champions League as his parting gift.

But Thiago has now insisted that if a suitable offer is not put on the table he will be happy to remain at Allianz Arena.

Speaking after Spain’s 1-1 draw with Germany in which he played the full 90 minutes, the 29-year-old told ZDF: ‘I only think about the game against Ukraine. Afterwards, we will see.

‘Bayern is my home and I am happy to be there.’

Hansi Flick previously expressed his desire to keep hold of Alcantara, who proved his worth again with brilliant performances in the Champions League when football resumed.

And no doubt Bayern fans will take heart from the midfielder appearing to open the door to a prolonged stay.

Alcantara’s contract at the club expires at the end of the upcoming season and they are asking for a transfer fee of £27million from prospective buyers.

Liverpool are still front-runners for his signature but are only likely to make a move if one of the current midfielders departs.

Georginio Wijnaldum is of interest to Barcelona and could be replaced by Alcantara but Jurgen Klopp is otherwise likely to be inactive in the market.

United signing Donny van de Beek is not thought to mean the Old Trafford club will end their interest in the Bayern star.

Despite UCL heroics, Thiago still wants Bayern’s exit

Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara still wants to leave the European champions despite their Champions League heroics as Liverpool weigh up £23m move for the Spanish midfielder.

The 29-year-old was a standout performer for Hans Dieter-Flick’s side as the Bundesliga champions ground out a 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain to win their sixth European title on Sunday.

The victory in Lisbon signalled an exciting new era for the Germans, with the side boasting a plethora of attacking talent, with Manchester City star Leroy Sane also to join the squad this summer.

However, Thiago’s future in Bavaria has been uncertain, with the former Barcelona star being linked with a move away from the club this summer as the player has just a year left on his contract.

Premier League champions Liverpool have been strongly linked with the playmaker, although it has been reported that the Anfield club are unwilling to meet Bayern’s £23m price tag for the player considering he has just 12 months left of his deal.

And according to German journalist Christian Falk, Thiago still has his heart set on a Bayern exit this summer, and will be a Liverpool player if the English club meet Bayern’s valuation for the Spaniard.

The German club are desperate to keep hold of Thiago, and manager Flick joked in his post-match press conference on Sunday that the midfielder told him he wanted to stay at the club.

‘No, he told me he is staying,’ Flick replied, which was met with a stunned silence by those attending the press conference. But after a moment, Flick burst out laughing.

‘You pulled a brilliant face! No, I just thanked him for our time together, just like I did every other player’ he added.

‘I don’t know and he doesn’t know yet either (which club he will join), because we all focused on this Champions League final. I think we will have to wait for what the following days will bring.’

Meanwhile, BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves has urged his former club to not sell their star midfielder.

‘They have got to keep Thiago, he is so important and he was fantastic,’ he said on Sunday night. ‘Liverpool fans would have been watching that saying “yes please”.’

PSg to rival Liverpool in signing Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool’s interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago remains a subject of much debate, with conflicting reports about the likelihood of the Reds clinching a deal.

The Spanish international is out of contract in 2021, prompting suggestions Liverpool will push for a cut-price deal when Bayern’s involvement in the 2019/20 Champions League comes to an end.

However, Klopp’s team aren’t the only ones being linked with the player, with European finalists Paris Saint-Germain reportedly ready to steal a march on the English champions.

According to French publication Le10Sport (via NobleSports), PSG could hold an advantage thanks to their willingness to act quickly, with Liverpool said to prefer a January move and the French side ready to bid for the 29-year-old before the start of the new season.

The same report claims PSG are eyeing up Thiago due to doubts about Idrissa Gueye, who joined last summer from Everton for £30million but was left out of the starting 11 as Thomas Tuchel’s side beat RB Leipzig in the Champions League semi-finals.

Thiago has already find his house in Liverpool

Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara has already found a house in Liverpool to move into according to RMC Sport.

The report states that the Spain international has already agreed a four-year contract to join the Premier League champions this summer.

Thiago has told his Bayern Munich team-mates that he is going to join Jurgen Klopp’s side after their Champions League campaign finishes.

But the clubs are yet to agree a fee with the Bundesliga champions for the midfielder as they are asking for a fee between £25million and £30m.

The player himself has held ambitions to play in the Premier League, and is said to be hopeful a move to Anfield can be completed.

Manchester City have also been linked with the player but Sportsmail understands there is no interest.

Thiago is vastly experienced and has won seven league titles with Bayern to add to the two he won with Barcelona.

A superb passer, Thiago is a highly creative player and can also operate slightly deeper in midfield if required.

As previously reported, Liverpool are only looking to pay over the £20m mark to make a possible deal happen, with the player turning 30 in April next year and entering the twilight of his career.

The Reds have seen their spending finances badly hampered by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, and had to pull out of a move for German striker Timo Werner as a result.

Liverpool have already made one signing this summer, though, bringing in left back Kostas Tsimikas to provide cover for Andy Robertson.

Last summer Klopp’s side didn’t bring in a single experienced outfield player, although they did sign Takumi Minamino in January.

‘I’m 100% ready for Bayern’s departure’ – Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool have been handed a boost in their bid to land Thiago Alcantara this summer after claims the midfielder has informed Bayern Munich he wants to quit the Allianz Arena.

The Premier League champions have been heavily linked with the 29-year-old midfielder as they seek to strengthen their side in preparation of defending their crown next term.

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has admitted that despite initial encouraging talks with Alcantara and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic over a new deal, the former Barcelona star has decided to move on.

‘In fact, the talks Hasan had with him have always been very productive. And at some point it actually seemed that it was done [a new contract at Bayern],’ Rummenigge told Sky Germany.

‘But then Thiago informed Hasan that he would like to do something new. We have to accept that.’

Alcantara has just one year left on his current deal, but Rummenigge has stated that they will only allow the midfielder to depart on their terms and will not be forced into a sale.

Reports this week indicated that a fee of £27million could be enough for Jurgen Klopp to land the Spaniard.

‘We have a contract with Thiago that is still valid for one year and if he reaches an agreement with any club then that club should pay a transfer fee of a certain amount,’ he added.

‘I do not want to make any public comment about the fee that we have in mind. As I have already said, we’ll not have a summer sale at Bayern. There will always have to be a certain amount that will make us sell a player.’

‘I’m not angry at all, I like him. I think he’s a great footballer and he has a good character too. And you shouldn’t forget either that at 29, he is at an age where, if he wants to do something new, he has to do it now.’

Thiago transfer on hold even after Liverpool greenlight

Thiago Alcantara’s future remains in question after Bayern Munich confirmed they have received no offers for the wantaway Spaniard.

The midfielder has just one year left on his deal at the Allianz Arena and has pulled out of talks over a new contract.

The former Barcelona man has told club chiefs that, at the age of 29, he is keen to undertake a new challenge in his career after seven hugely successful seasons with the German giants.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Spain international, who has won seven successive Bundesliga titles.

Last month, SportBild claimed Thiago was “keen” on a move to Anfield, and that he had told Bayern teammates of a desire to play under Jurgen Klopp.

And the Kop boss has made clear his admiration of the playmaker.

After talks with Thiago, Bayern chiefs made clear that they would look to sell him this summer. CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge went public earlier this month, emphasising: “We don’t want to lose a player on a free transfer next year.”

But speaking on Thursday he made clear that no bids have arrived at Bayern’s door thus far – while Die Roten are unaware if Thiago has agreed terms with a new club.

“Hasan [Salihamidzic, sporting director] had talks with Thiago. They were always very positive, but he told Hasan some time ago that he wants to do something new to finish his career.

“So far no club has contacted us. We don’t know if he’s settled things with a new club.”

The issue for Bayern and Thiago is finding someone this summer willing to meet their £30million valuation for a player who will have little sell-on value – particularly when he can leave for nothing next year.

Add on his salary and there are few real genuine landing spots for Thiago this summer; Juventus may have been one, but their move for Arthur may well negate any interest, while PSG and Manchester City are among the few others who could genuinely cut a deal in this transfer window.

Liverpool continue to insist that they will not do any big business this summer, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and their Premier League title success.

Liverpool reached Official agreement with Bayern for Thiago

Liverpool have reached an agreement with Bayern midfielder Thiago about a summer move, according to NS.

The report claims that the player has reached an agreement with Liverpool which only leaves Bayern Munich to agree a price for the Spanish midfielder.

There have been reports suggesting that it could cost just £30million for the Reds to sign Thiago due to his age and history with some injuries.

Ultimately, it could be another step in the right direction for Liverpool in what will be viewed as one of the more unexpected summer signings.

Bayern wants €30m for Thiago

Bayern would get around €30m from selling Thiago, although the club had dreamed of a higher fee.

Klopp can well imagine working with Thiago but so far, there was no contact with Liverpool, as the English club have their transfers on hold, per Bild reports.

The report claims that Thiago will definitely be sold this summer if he finds a buyer.

Bayern are expecting the real effects of the Corona crisis starting from next season.

Therefore, the financial aspect plays an even bigger role in Thiago’s case.

Liverpool transfer conclusion: Thiago Alcantara eyed

Liverpool’s plans for the 2020/21 campaign start now, with Jurgen Klopp already plotting how and where to strengthen the Reds for their title defence next season.

Frustration over losing out to Chelsea in the race for Timo Werner is unlikely to deter the former Borussia Dortmund boss from dipping into the summer market.

However, with funds likely to be restricted at Anfield, Klopp will be aiming for squad additions and potentially one big-name purchase.

We take a look at the biggest transfer rumours involving the new Premier League champions.

Bayern Munich react to Liverpool interest in Thiago

Bayern Munich boss Hans-Dieter Flick remains convinced star midfielder Thiago Alcantara will remain with the Bundesliga champions, despite interest from Liverpool.

The Spanish international has been linked with an exit from the Allianz Arena after talks over a contract extension, stalled earlier this month.

However, Flick is unmoved by the speculation, insisting the former Barcelona man remains central to his plans.

“I don’t think about Thiago leaving us at all,” he said as per a report from the Daily Express, following Bayern’s final game of the season.

“Thiago is an exceptional player, who gives a lot to the team, so I do not think about him leaving.”

Flick confirmed talks are ongoing with Thiago’s representatives, but with no update at this stage.

If Bayern do opt to eventually sell, he could be available for a fee of around £54m.

Liverpool offer Lovren in Koulibaly swap deal

Liverpool could offer Croatian international Dejan Lovren to Serie A giants Napoli, as part of a deal to bring Kalidou Koulibaly to Anfield.

Klopp has been linked with a host of defensive targets in recent weeks, including Sevilla star Diego Carlos and Real Valladolid’s Mohammed Salisu.

However, according to reports from the Daily Mail, via Tuttosport, Klopp will challenge Manchester City for the signature of Senegal international Koulibaly.

Napoli are currently demanding in the region of £90m for the 29-year old, but Liverpool are hoping the inclusion of Lovren could lower that price to closer to £70m.

Lovren looks set to leave Anfield this summer, despite claiming he wants to stay and fight for his place.

Reds battle neighbours over Ligue 1 star

Liverpool and Everton will reportedly go head to head to sign Marseille defender Boubacar Kamara this summer.

Kamara, who can operate at full back and centre-back, has been linked with a move away from the French club after an eye-catching campaign with Andre Villas-Boas’ side.

Reports from French outlet Le10 Sport claim Everton are currently ahead of their rivals in the race to sign the 20-year old, with Liverpool eyeing him as a backup option to Koulibaly.

Marseille secured Champions League qualification at the end of the 2019/20 French season, but Villas Boas has been told he needs to sell players this summer.

Kamara is just one of his stars who could be heading for an exit after an impressive 12 months at the Stade Velodrome.

Bayern ‘reach agreement with Thiago over new contract & will announce this week’

According to information from NobleSports Reliable Sources, the contract extension of Thiago Alcantara at Bayern is finished. The club wants to announce the new term later this week.

BILD has already reported that Thiago was at Säbener Straße yesterday on a non-training day.

He had last been talking to trainer Hansi Flick twice on the training pitch. A week ago they were ready to reach an agreement over new deal.

And Thiago said a few days ago in the Catalan newspaper “La Vanguardia” about a career end in Munich: “That is a difficult question. A lot has to be right. But Bavaria would be a wonderful club to end a career.”

Bayern recently extended the contract with Thomas Müller until 2023, coach Hansi Flick also signed until 2023. Negotiations are ongoing with Manuel Neuer and David Alaba.

Thiago: I’ve seen Coutinho play since he was 12 years old, he is a phenomenon

Thiago Alcantara has returned to training in Germany with Bayern Munich with the league working on a re-start. The player also spoke to La Vanguardia, in which he praised Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho.

The midfielder is on loan at Bayern, where he has failed to shine.

“I know him well, he’s very good. I’ve seen him play since he was 12 years old. I played against him in Brazil at football sala and I loved him.

“He lacks nothing. I like to play with players at a top-level and he’s a phenomenon. He’s a great guy, really hard working, with unbeatable technique and incredible finishing.

“Players go through good moments and some not so good ones and he brings us a lot. We hope he’s here next season too.”

Thiago tries to teach Neuer some Spanish but struggles in learning

Communication is a key part of football and so Thiago Alcantara took it upon himself to try to teach Manuel Neuer some Spanish.

The former Barcelona midfielder challenged his Bayern Munich captain to repeat a series of phrases in Spanish before making him guess what each one meant in his native German.

Neuer needed two guesses to figure out the meaning of ‘bienvenido’ (welcome) but the 34-year-old quickly redeemed himself.

“I like drinking water,” was Neuer’s first successful translation.

However, he struggled when Thiago told him that his “first position as a footballer was striker”.
