Uwaila’s Rape: Police Arrest Suspect.

One of the suspects linked to the rape and murder of Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100-level student of the University of Benin, Edo State, by the Edo State Police Command.

The 22-year-old undergraduate was raped and killed by unknown persons while reading in the RCCG church in Benin city.

According to the spokesman of Edo Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, the suspect was arrested after the fingerprint on the fire extinguisher she was attacked with was examined.


Nwabuzor revealed that operatives of the command arrested the suspect after the Area Commander of Ikpoba Hill mobilized his men to take action.

“The item used in the assault, which was a fire extinguisher, was recovered, immediately the operatives who were with some specialists screened the fingerprints which led to our suspect.


“Around the place of the incident, the suspect was arrested,” Nwabuzor said.

The death of Uwa has stirred reactions from notable figures, as well as Nigerians on social media calling for justice.


The Inspector general of Police, IGP Adamu disclosed that investigative aids have been deployed to Edo to help speed up the investigations.

He assured that the perpetrators of the crime will be brought to book in the shortest possible time.



[Nigeria] 2 Bandits, 10 Suspected Kidnappers Nab In Katsina.

Two notorious bandits and ten suspected kidnappers across five Local Government Areas in Katsina state have been arrested.

Before meeting their Waterloo on Thursday, the criminals were reportedly responsible for terrorising innocent citizens of the affected LGAs comprising Batsari, Faskari, Charanchi and Dutsinma including the Katsina metropolitan area.

In a press briefing held before the command headquarters on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah told reporters that one AK 49 rifle with five rounds of ammunition, unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, charms and the sum of N6,465 Naira were discovered in possession of the two bandits killed by the police.

Meanwhile, the command according to the police spokesman arrested one Sa’ad Yahaya who had allegedly attacked his father while asleep and robbed him the sum of N435,000.


I started robbing to fund my wedding – 20-year-old suspect

One of three suspected armed robbers arrested by the police in the Dambam Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Shehu Abdullahi, has confessed that he was planning to use his share of the proceeds to get married.

Abdullahi, 20, in an interview with Northern City News, while being paraded at the Bauchi State Police Command on Wednesday, said he initially didn’t want to be a part of the gang but his friend convinced him otherwise.

He claimed that it was his first time of participating in such an act before he was arrested by the police.

He said, “I was brought to the police headquarters because of an armed robbery operation that we did. Yes, I am an armed robber, but I have never done it before; this is my first time.

“I was at home when Dan Jauro called me that I should come and join them to go for a robbery, but I told him that I had never done it before. He begged me to just come that they needed people to participate in it. I told him that I was scared, but he encouraged me to just come.

“Before I went there, they had bought everything needed for the robbery. When I got there, they had started bringing out the logs of wood to the road when I got there.

“When we blocked the road, one car came and we stopped it. The driver came out and Dan Jauro dragged one of the women out of the car. We asked all of them to come down and we collected all their handsets and belongings. Some of us opened the boot of the car and took out three boxes and four bags.”

Asked what he was going to do with his share of the money, he said, “Honestly, I wanted to marry and I did not have the money. I wanted to use it to marry.”

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Philip Maku, said the suspects and seven others still at large were behind a robbery whose video went viral.

“The suspects conspired with seven others now at large on February 18, 2020, barricaded the Kano-Maiduguri Highway with heavy logs of wood and attacked a salon vehicle,” he stated.

The CP added that several exhibits were recovered from them, including a Dane gun, a double-barrelled Dane gun, seven sticks, six axes, six machetes, six knives, 10 charms, some fabricated bullets and one ATM card bearing, Godwin Adie, among others.


My boyfriend lured me – 32 year old kidnap suspect tells Police

A 32-YEAR-old woman identified as Hassana Bala has been arrested by police in Niger State for attempting to kidnap a 23-year-old man, Umar Sarkin Turaku of Kawo village in Kontagora Local Government Area of the state.

Hassana had sent threatening phone calls to Turaku asking him to pay a ransom of N5 million or risk being kidnapped.

Luck, however, ran out of the mother of two when Turaku reported the phone calls to the police who traced and arrested Hassana.

Speaking to newsmen when she was paraded in Minna, Hassana said that it was her boyfriend who introduced her to kidnapping, adding that her part is usually to make threatening phone calls to the people and arrange where the money would be dropped while the other members of the gang would pick up the money.

She said, “After separating from my husband, I got a man friend who introduced me to this wicked act and that was how I started the kidnapping business.

“Since I left my husband my life has changed for the worse,” she said, and then asked for forgiveness. Police spokesman Muhammad Abubakar said the matter would be charged to court after investigation.


Dagan’s Death: Aso Rock Suspect Put Behind Bar

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested an alleged conspirator in the murder of an Assistant Director attached to the State House, Abuja, Laetitia Dagan, who was killed by some assailants in her home in the Galadimawa area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The FCT Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of the suspect, identified as Edirin Ohonre, who is said to have conspired with others now at large to perpetrate the crime.

The police said the suspect, who is currently under interrogation, is assisting the team of detectives with information that will lead to the arrest of the other suspects connected to the crime.

Dagan, an Assistant Director with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was reported on Tuesday to have been murdered in her apartment in Galadimawa, Abuja, on Monday, shortly after she returned from work.

The 47-year-old Plateau State indigene was said to have left her office in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, around 8pm while the incident happened around 11pm.

She was said to be a participant in an ongoing training for civil servants holding at the Manhattan Event Centre, Uke, Nasarawa State.

The FCT Police spokesperson, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, in a release on Wednesday, said members of the public should disregard inaccurate information on social media, and not to pre-empt the ongoing police investigation.

He said, “Preliminary investigation into the suspected murder by the Criminal Investigation Department of the FCT Police Command led to the arrest of one Edirin Ohonre who is suspected to have conspired with others now at large to perpetrate the crime.

“The suspect, who is currently under interrogation, is assisting the team of police detectives with information that will lead to the arrest of the other suspects connected to the crime, that are now at large.

“While commiserating with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased on the unfortunate incident, the FCT Police Command is assuring members of the public that it has deployed relevant investigative tools to unravel the circumstances surrounding the victim’s unfortunate death and ensure the arrest and prosecution of suspects behind the heinous act.

“The command is urging members of the public to disregard insinuations making the rounds in some social media platforms, and also wish to appeal to the members of the public to desist from pre-empting the ongoing police investigation.”


Fake News: Cops Nab Female Suspect

The Police on Tuesday said they arrested a female suspect over fake news in connection with the kidnap and murder of wife of a Kaduna based medical doctor, Philip Ataga.

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Frank Mba, disclosed this at a news briefing in Abuja.

He said the suspect was arrested in connection with a post, circulated in the social media that a police officer was involved in the kidnap and murder of the doctor’s wife.

Ataga’s wife and her two children were on Jan. 25 abducted from their home at the Juji community in Chikun Local Government Area of the Kaduna State.

The abductors killed a member of a local vigilante group in the area during the operation.

Sadly, a week after their abduction, the body of the woman was found before the two children were later released.

Mba said while police was working on the abduction and unfortunate murder of the woman, a damaging story that went viral was posted on the social media.

He said the story made a very strong allegation that a police man was involved in the kidnap and subsequent murder of the doctor’s wife.

“It was a very damaging story and police operatives immediately set out to investigate the source and the origin of the story.

“After days of investigation, the post that went viral was traced to the suspect who is a teacher in Kaduna.

“This is a classical example of fake news and the problem with this kind of fake news is that it can set the people against the police,” he said.

He said the fake news could also damage the relationship between the police and the public.

According to him, the success of every police agency or department is predicated on the kind of support it receives from the public.

“Fake news of this nature are distractions, the resources that would have been used to investigate important cases are diverted to investigating the source of this kind of story.

“We want to use this opportunity to appeal to the public, particularly the youths, to exercise caution in the use of the social media.

“You have to be circumspect before pushing out information, if you are not sure of the authenticity, please don’t push out the information,” he added.

Mba said it was a criminal offence to circulate false information, adding that cyber laws were very clear about the offence.


13 arrested for transformers theft

Thirteen suspects have been paraded by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State for alleged involvement in the stealing of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) transformers and cables.

Speaking to journalists while parading the suspects, the Rivers State Commandant of NSCDC, Muktar Lawal, narrated that: ”On 30th January 2020, an open-body pick-up van with registration number BAYELSA XB 325 KMR conveying suspected illegally refined AGO stacked in about 110 cellophane bags was apprehended with 3 suspects at Elele in Ikwere LGA of River state.

“On 5th February 2020 at about 0245hrs, an open body long truck conveying unquantifiable amount of suspected petroleum product with registration number YOBE TO 234 YB and 3 suspects were arrested at Igbo-Etche, Etche LGA of Rivers State.

”On 7th February, at about 0024hrs an enclosed long truck with Registration Number LAGOS APP 06 XF loaded with suspected vandalized Power Holding facilities was intercepted along D-Line GRA, Port Harcourt and 7 Suspects were arrested with the following: 13 drums of suspected Transformer Oil, 5 suspected Step down Transformers, one 200KVA transformer, 2 rolls of suspected transformer cables, 2 bags containing suspected bolts and 48 suspected Fiber Larders used for vandalism.”

He said investigation was ongoing and warned that those involved in such act should desist or face the law, adding that the NSCDC is empowered by law to arrest and prosecute according to the enabling Law that established it.

The suspects, he assured, would soon be charged to Court.

A 26-year-old man identified as Paul has been arrested by The Anambra police command after he confessed to killing his elder brother so as to inherit his iPhone 11.

Paul made the confession while being interviewed by newsmen in the state police command.

He further revealed that he carried out the evil act because he could not afford to buy the phone and also because his friends were constantly mocking him.

He was said to have killed his brother with the use of a sniper.

His mum has since been pleading with the police that he should be spared because she can not lose two children at the same time.


I turned fake tax collectors because I need money to cater for my children

A suspected illegal revenue collector, Mr. Sunday Ogbonna has told a mobile court in Onitsha, Anambra state that he engaged in diverting government revenue to enable him take care of his newborn baby and wife.

Ogbonna was discharged and acquitted by the mobile court for his honesty and showing genuine remorse before the court.

Pleading guilty to the charges against him, Ogbonna narrated how he was apprehended at Oba road junction while loading and offloading as well as selling illegal tickets.

He said, “I sincerely thank the court for granting me freedom despite my crime. It was only on January 11 that my wife put to bed and things were very difficult for me.

“I started selling fake tickets to be able to raise money to feed my family.”

While promising never to go back to the illegal business again, Ogbonna pledged to assist the government check the ugly trend by exposing other fake revenue agents.

The Court also granted bail to eleven others alleged of engaging in the issuance of fake and illegal tickets, illegal loading and offloading at unapproved points, among others.

The individuals were arraigned before the mobile court at Terminal “A” park, Upper Iweka, Onitsha by the state government, following renewed efforts at ridding the state of all kinds of touting and extortion activities.

They were earlier arrested by the State Ministry of Transport and FIAT, an anti-Touting set up by the State government to ensure that only the authorized agents were allowed to collect toll and levies on behalf of the government.

Some of the suspects who were granted bail though after pleading guilty included Kenneth Chimezie, Onyeka Mmadumenya and Tochukwu Molu.

Others who pleaded not guilty were Nonso Obi, Ejike Igwuibe, Nwamma Joshua, Chika Okafor, Chidiebere Samuel, Nwafor Sunday, Ayo Oma and Joseph Ogochukwu.

They were also granted bail with the clause of N50,000 each, surety with certified identity cards, affidavit of livelihood and two passport photographs.

Three of the suspects were later taken back to the Onitsha Correctional Centre until they were able to provide a reliable surety with the listed requirements.

Counsels to the defendants, Messers Samuel Egbuna, EI Nzekwe, Somtochukwu Aliba and Victor Alor who appealed for the bail of their defendants, noted that it is a bailable offense under Section 36 of the 1999 constitution as amended.

The case was later adjourned to January 28 for hearing.


Night duty officer shot dead; police still in search of suspect

The search for a suspect continues after an officer-involved shooting on Monday in Howland Township.

Howland Township Police Chief Nick Roberts has sent out a BOLO alert for the alleged suspect. He is described as a black male in his mid-30s with a thin build. He is around 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored hoodie and athletic shoes. Police say he spoke in a high-toned voice and is armed with a silver revolver.

He was driving a full-sized, early 2000s model black SUV. Officials last spotted him heading southbound on Pine Avenue. If you spot the suspect or vehicle, you’re asked to call the police and not approach him.

According to Warren Police Chief Eric Merkel, the Warren officer was off duty at the time and stopped to help out what he thought was a disabled vehicle in the area of Pine Avenue. The incident somehow escalated and both parties fired shots.

After the shooting, the officer said he thought he was hit but wasn’t.

“When I initially came out here, it was reported to us that he was shot two times, but he was wearing his bulletproof vest and that they did not penetrate. But the story has changed that he didn’t have his vest on,” Chief Roberts said. “Like I said, he was off duty and returning home from work, and he was not hit by any rounds.”

Chief Merkel also confirmed that the officer was not wearing a bulletproof vest since he was not on duty.

The officer involved was taken to the hospital to be checked out as a precaution. He has since been released and was not hurt.

At one point, dozens of police officers converged in the area of Mauro Circle in Niles.

Officials say they were in the area because a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the shooting fled from Niles police. At this point, they are not believed to be involved in the shooting incident.

The Howland Township Police Department has called in the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to assist.

The Warren Police Department will be doing its own investigation.

Police say they are not releasing the officer’s name at this time.


Teenager brutalized at Suntan beach for theft suspicion.

Earlier at a Suntan beach in Seme area, Badagry, Lagos Nigeria, a young man was allegedly beaten and accused of theft and further disagreement to succumb to accusations.

Some horsemen and securities reported that he was seen ‘trying to steal other people valuables at the beach bank’. NobleReporters witnessed

The suspect however frowns to the allegations, says he had no intention to steal from anyone. The continued by saying he was looking for his wears as well.

After some while at the Beach’s checkpoint, he was feud and wanted to fight some horsemen up to 3 who kept on saying he is a thief and that he had come with the intention all the way not to celebrate xmas but to steal from others and not to swim.

After the fight between them, he was handed to some police officers and was taken to the police station close to the beach.

He got his Merry Christmas present today.
