Romania Orthodox Church in trouble after baby ‘dies’ in Baptism.

Prosecutors have opened a manslaughter probe against the priest in the northeastern city of Suceava.

The Orthodox Church was facing growing pressure on Thursday to change baptism rituals in Romania after a baby died following a ceremony, which involves immersing infants three times in holy water.

The six-week-old suffered a cardiac arrest and was rushed to hospital on Monday but he died a few hours later, the autopsy revealing liquid in his lungs.

Prosecutors have opened a manslaughter probe against the priest in the northeastern city of Suceava.

An online petition calling for changes to the ritual had gathered more than 56,000 signatures by Thursday evening.

“The death of a newborn baby because of this practice is a huge tragedy,” said a message with the petition. “This risk must be ruled out for the joy of baptism to triumph.”

One internet user denounced the “brutality” of the ritual and another criticised the “stubbornness of those who think that it is the will of God” to maintain it.

Local media recounted several similar incidents in recent years.

Church spokesman Vasile Banescu said priests could pour a little water on the baby’s forehead instead of full immersion.

But Archbishop Teodosie, leader of the Church’s traditionalist wing, said the ritual would not change.

More than 80 percent of Romanians are Orthodox and the Church is one of the most trusted institutions, according to recent opinion polls.

Abaribe: The only S/East in Aso Villa is a photographer

There are however nine presidential aides who are from the south-east zone.

Senate minority leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe has stated that the only person from south-east in Aso Villa is a photographer.

Abaribe said this when he featured on NoRM‘s known Media TV programme. The Senator who described Governor David Umahi’s defection as a mere occurrence which will be evaluated properly during the next presidential election, stressed the need for back channels in government which according to him is the reason for the relevance of Mamman Daura, Buhari’s nephew in the present administration.

He said;

“Before, every part of this country was represented in the Aso Villa, so when you want to do government business because sometimes government business is done from back channels, so if you have a problem or they want to do some consultations, you make a call into the Villa, you call to your countryman and say please, can you tell oga this or that so that we can have this talk, there is none today inside the villa. There’s one guy, his name is Sunny, I think he’s a photographer.

“So, Umahi is going to talk to who? Ok, because he is governor, he can talk to chief of staff, he can go to see the president but what about others?”

Insecurities: S/East Transporters threatens to Abandon Lagos route.

The protesters included luxury bus owners, commuter buses and executive Sienna bus operators.

Transport operators in the South-East with takeoff points as Onitsha, Anambra State has threatened to boycott Lagos and all routes to the North due to worsening insecurity, intractable robbery attacks and continued abduction on the highways leading to Lagos, Abuja and other parts of the North.

The transporters in a protest at Onitsha Upper Iweka on Wednesday threatened that if nothing was done urgently to address the situation, they would abandon those routes and pack their vehicles in their garages for safety.

They vowed to mobilize other transport operators who ply Enugu, Aba and Port Harcourt to join the down tool so as to cripple socioeconomic activities nationwide.

The group decried several incidents of armed robbery attack and abduction of passengers on the highways after the #EndSARS protests.

Speaking to newsmen, the Manager, God’s Will Transport, Emenike Okafor, identified Benin bypass – Ogbemudia farm to Ore and Kogi -Lokoja–Abuja highway as the most dangerous spots where the bandits operated unhindered.

He said, “In the last two weeks, there have been recorded cases of robbery and abduction involving Sienna and Hummer buses with about six passengers kidnapped in the mentioned areas.

“We called on the Inspector General of Police to activate its rapid response mechanism and the establishment of a joint patrol team involving the army, police and civil defence corps in the affected areas.

“Travelling has become increasingly risky owing to the security challenges.

“Those who unleashed the attack did that to destabilise the country’s security network and they should not be allowed to succeed. We want the police to go back to their duty posts with renewed vigour and zeal.

“Let the government motivate them by improving their welfare packages and ensure that those casualties already recorded receive adequate compensation.”

While commiserating with the police over the casualties and losses recorded during the #EndSARS protests, Okafor stressed that no responsible citizen no matter how highly provoked would engage in burning, looting and attacking the police facilities.

2023: Three S/East Govs will lead large number of defection from PDP – OYC

OYC warned that Igbo politician caught negotiating for Vice President slot will suffer stiff penalties and consequences.

Apex Igbo youth socio-political organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, worldwide has claimed that three governors in the South East will lead a mass defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP if the party fails to be open to zoning for the 2023 presidency.

OYC said this in a statement signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, its President-General; Comrade Obinna Achionye Deputy President General and Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, Secretary-General, where it also described the proposed emergence meetings of PDP Board of Trustees, BoT scheduled for November 18 and the party’s National Executive Council meeting coming up on November 19 2020 as the last opportunity for the party to revert back to zoning as enshrined in its constitution.

The OYC said that the party zoning formula favours Southeast for presidency come 2023.

“Failure of PDP BoT and NEC to stand down the NWC’s decision for an unconstitutional “open Contest” and revert back to zoning formula, will inevitably lead to collapse of PDP machinery in Southeast as three igbo Governors will lead igbos into mass defection from PDP to APC. This is the final warning to PDP,” OYC warned.
