OFFICIAL: Ex-PSG captain Thiago Silva joins Chelsea as a free agent

During his eight years in the French capital, the Brazil international centre-back won seven Ligue 1 titles among the huge haul of 25 trophies he has collected with Les Rouge et Bleu.

Though he turns 36 in September, Thiago Silva was still in prime form in 2019-20, topping the division’s ‘passes completed’ chart with 95.5% of his attempts reaching their target.

With 204 league games, including 200 starts for PSG, Thiago Silva last season went past former teammate Blaise Matuidi to move level with Dominique Rocheteau in 14th on the club’s all-time appearance makers chart.

With 154 wins in those 204 league games, PSG have won 73.5% of their matches with Thiago Silva in the side compared to 66.3% without him.

Silva, 35, underwent a medical in London on Thursday and is expected to sign a two-year deal with Chelsea, according to reports in Britain.

Silva could become the latest signing for Chelsea in a busy close season that has seen the arrivals of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr. The Blues are also interested in Bayer Leverkusen rising star Kai Havertz.

Lazio finally meets David Silva’s demand

Advertisements

Lazio have asked David Silva to give them an answer today or they will withdraw their three-year contract offer for the Manchester City midfielder.

The Spaniard became a free agent after City’s shock exit from the Champions League after their 3-1 defeat to Ligue 1 side Lyon.

Reports suggested that Silva was ignoring phone calls from the Serie A club and was weighing up other options instead.

Italian paper La Gazzetta dello Sport have now added that Lazio have set a deadline for Silva to respond or they will withdraw the paper work and their proposal.

The Italian side offered the creative midfielder a three-year contract, which would see him earn around £3.6million-per-year, including bonuses such as a personal driver and a private jet to see his family in Spain.

Napoli, Juventus and Valencia have also showed interest in the 34-year-old, but now Silva is tempted by a big money move to Qatar.

Former Valencia coach Quique Sanchez Flores has insisted that Lazio would be the best possible destination for the Spaniard.

‘He can give his best in the trequartista role, linking midfield and attack,’ Sanchez Flores told Tuttomercatoweb.

‘I think he’d do well alongside Luis Alberto, with both supporting Ciro Immobile, as with David behind him, I think Immobile could score even more than he did this season.’

David Silva could be on his way to Serie A once his Manchester City days have come to an end.

The Spaniard will leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the 2019/20 season, which will be concluded once City’s Champions League campaign is over.

NobleSports are reporting that Lazio are in talks to sign Silva after qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

The Biancocelesti spent most of the Serie A season as Juventus’ greatest title challengers, only to finish the season in fourth.

Striker Ciro Immobile ended the season as top scorer in Italy with 36 goals.

Silva could join fellow Spaniard Luis Alberto in Rome, who ended the season with 15 assists – the second most in Serie A.

Foden already stands as replacement for Silva – Guardiola

Advertisements

The talent of Manchester City’s 20-year-old midfielder Phil Foden, who scored twice in Monday’s 5-0 home win over Burnley, means the club do not have to invest in a replacement for the departing David Silva, says manager Pep Guardiola.

Spaniard Silva, 34, is due to leave City at the end of this campaign after 10 seasons with the club but in Foden City look to have a ready made replacement.

“In this position, when David says it is his last year I spoke with the board that we have Phil (Foden) so we don’t have to invest,” said Guardiola.

Foden, who scored the first and fifth goals in the rout and looked composed and classy throughout, said Monday’s match was his best in a City shirt but Guardiola was not so sure.

“I remember some games in the cup when he played similar. I am happy for him and he says what he feels,” added Guardiola.

“I said many times when he played he never played bad. He loves to play football. When he has a day off he is with his friends with the ball.

“Every time he played with us he always played at a high level. But he is 20 years old and he needs to improve. He will be an important player for this club for the next decade. He deserves it. He is a joy to watch,” he said.

Guardiola hopes Silva, who also scored against Burnley, will be given a proper farewell when fans are back in the stadiums.

“We are going to, when it is possible to have people back to The Etihad, to try and have not one empty seat for this incredible legend,” he said.

“With Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, Pablo Zabaleta – these players bring these players to another level and they deserve real fireworks. David is unique in the small spaces.”

PSG confirms Cavani and Thiago Silva’s departure

Advertisements

Paris Saint-Germain director Leonardo confirms ‘Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva will be leaving’ at the end of the season as free agents.

Their contracts are due to expire and they have been linked with numerous clubs, including Cavani to Inter and Atletico Madrid, with Thiago Silva potentially returning to Milan.

“It’s true, we are reaching the end of the road with them,” Leonardo told Le Journal du Dimanche newspaper.

“The idea is to keep them until the end of August so that they can play in the Champions League.”

Cavani is 33 years old and had moved to PSG from Napoli for €64.5m in the summer of 2013.

As for Thiago Silva, the 35-year-old centre-back joined the Parisians from Milan for €42m alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2012.

Thiago Silva on free Transfer, See which club he chooses next

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva’s agent has allegedly contacted Milan and a return to San Siro could be possible for the centre-back.

Advertisements

Tuttosport claims the 35-year-old’s agent has approached Milan with the possibility of signing the Brazilian on a free transfer this summer.

Thiago Silva left Milan in July 2012, when he moved for €42m to the French capital and has since helped the French giants pick up seven League titles, four Coupe de France and five Coupe de la Ligue.

The veteran would have to take a massive pay cut, as his expiring deal with Les Parisiens was worth €12m a year and talks of an extension has stalled in recent months.

Milan have in recent months been linked with Red Bull director Ralf Rangnick and look set to offer the German a manager role, taking full sporting power at Milanello.

The project has allegedly targeted cost-efficient young players and to bring a soon-to-be 36-year-old wouldn’t seem like the priority, but the link between Thiago Silva and Milan continues to be strong.

The Rossoneri signed him from Fluminense in January 2009 and the player went on to appear 119 times for the club, contributing to their last Scudetto in 2010-11 and the Supercoppa Italiana the following season.

PSG are reportedly looking at both Gianluigi Donnarumma and Ismael Bennacer to move in the opposite direction.

‘End Of Stay’ David Silva Confirms Mancity Exit

David Silva has confirmed he still plans to leave Manchester City at the end of this season.

The veteran playmaker was expected to call it a day this summer after a decade of service but the disruption to football caused by the coronavirus pandemic has made for an unprecedented end to this campaign.

However, Silva’s comments suggest that he will not be at the club when the 2020/21 season kicks off.

“When I say one thing, I move forward. I am sorry, I have been here ten years and I have fulfilled what I wanted,” he told AS.

~David Silva

“The cycle closes here, but I will always keep this club in mind for everything I have lived. From the first moment people have treated me incredible. Here they have a great respect for you, people give admiration towards you. Now my family and I need another challenge.”

Phil Foden is in line to take over Silva’s role in the squad as his progression continues, while City are still planning to give the club great a fitting send-off when possible.

Sterling labels teammate David Silva as the most humble player in football

Raheem Sterling has paid tribute to his Manchester City teammate David Silva, labelling him the most humble player in football.

Advertisements

The Spaniard’s contract is up at the end of this season and will leave the Premier League champions after 10 years in Manchester.

Asked how much he has learnt from Silva, Sterling paid testament to his teammate’s character, as well as his obvious talents on the pitch.

“One thing I’ve definitely learned from David is to be humble,” Sterling told BBC Radio 5 live.

“He is the most humble football player you will ever meet in your life and the trophies he has behind him to back him up, it just shows you, when you go to the next level and you’re winning all these things, to keep that humility about yourself and carry yourself in a decent way.

“He’s a perfect example of how to be a great professional and a top player, with many, many trophies behind him. If it is his last season (in English football), he’ll be sorely missed because he brings so much to the club and if you want to follow in his example it is always to keep that humility.”

Asked if he is likely to be one of the best players he will ever play alongside, he added: “For sure, most definitely. I’ll have a couple of his shirts on my wall in my house in Jamaica.”

David Silva and D.Stones returns from injury.

John Stones & David Silva Return From Injury as Man City Also Receive Aymeric laporte.

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte will return to training within the next 10 days.

The France international has been on the sidelines since August due to a serious knee injury, something which has been a key factor the reigning Premier League champions’ poor form this season.

Manchester City are facing the impossible task of overturning a 14-point gap behind Liverpool to reclaim the trophy, but Guardiola has confirmed that his side will at least be boosted by Laporte’s return in early January.

Aymeric Laporte
“He’s getting better. He’s training alone but already on the pitch. He’s in the last part of his recovery,” Guardiola said, quoted by The Mirror. “In one week, 10 days, he can start to train with us.

“I miss all the players who are injured, I like to have all the squad available and training with us.”

Laporte’s return from injury won’t come in time for their match against Everton on New Year’s Day, but both John Stones and David Silva will be available once again ahead of the Toffees’ trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Both players have been out of action since the Manchester derby at the start of December, but Guardiola confirmed Stones and Silva would be available for selection once again after almost a month on the sidelines.

Manchester City will be the favourites to beat Everton on New Year’s Day, but with their visitors currently riding the wave of a new manager bounce, Guardiola warned that Carlo Ancelotti’s sides “always beat” his own.

Carlo Ancelotti

“[Everton] have struggled for points but the quality is there,” he added. “They have a new manager who has incredible experience. He is one of the smartest guys, he is always able to make them work to get good results.

“It will be a difficult test for us. I know Carlo quite well, we played a few times against him. His teams always beat our teams.”

BBNaija: Leo Da Silva Prays For Bam Bam And Teddy A…

Big Brother Naija 2018 star, Leo Da Silva, recently took to his social media to pray for popular couple, Teddy A and BamBam.

Leo’s prayer was necessary after an innocent tweet suggested a deeper meaning/consequence because BamTeddy were likened to Romeo and Juliet.

It is worthy of note to remember that Romeo and Juliet, although a love story, was a tragic one that ended in tears… sorry death.

Here’s the tweet that motivated the prayer ;

Leo didn’t hesitate to rebuke the tweet.. he wrote ;

I reject it for them in Jesus name. They will not die but live to declare the praises of our Lord Jesus Christ in the land of the living.
