OndoDecide’20: Akeredolu sack Agboola’s Media Aide, Sowore

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Tuesday sacked Mr Allen Sowore, Special Assistant on New Media to the embattled Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi.

Akeredolu announced the decision in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olusegun Ajiboye.

Recall with Noble Reporters Media that Agboola Ajayi had been at loggerheads with his boss, Akeredolu, before he finally resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC, and joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Ajayi had maintained that he remains the Deputy Governor of the state despite his resignation from the All Progressives Congress.

NRM reports that the statement advised Sowore to submit all government’s property in his possession to the Chief of Staff to the Governor with immediate effect.

I am still Ondo deputy governor – Ajayi claims despite leaving APC for PDP

The Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi has said he would maintain his position despite his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ajayi dumped the APC on Sunday in Apoi Ward 2, Ese Odo Local Government Area of the state and joined the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the ward.

While tendering his resignation letter from the APC in Apoi Ward 2, Ajayi said that he left the ruling party did not mean he was leaving his position as the state’s deputy governor.

He said, “My people that voted for me did not ask me to resign, so I remain the deputy governor of this state. I was duly elected as a deputy governor.

“The reason I am taking this action is known to all of you. I listen to the advice from all supporters across the state.

“The Ese Odo Local Government will continue to witness peace and progress.”

Ajayi’s dumping of the APC came a day after he was prevented from going out of the government house in Akure, the state capital by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami.

Ondo Security Saga: My Say So Far! – CP

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Salami Bolaji has said that the Ondo Police Command under his policing architecture will never police lawlessness in the State.

Salami while reacting to a video on social media of his purported confrontation with the Deputy Governor of Ondo State over some number of cars, said the video was an attempt to foment sentiment and misunderstanding in the State.

On Saturday night, Ajayi was prevented from leaving the Government House when he was stopped by the Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami who was said to be acting on Akeredolu’s order.

Salami further said, he only came to the scene when his officers and men at the government house could not broker peace between the aides of the governor and that of the deputy governor over the number of cars the Deputy governor would drive out at the time.

According to the CP, it is only necessary that his presence at the scene as the Command’s Commissioner of Police could calm frayed nerves.

He also said, having listened to the reason for the misunderstanding, advised both sides to come to terms, a condition they both agreed.

The police boss who said he has never been a politician all through his life and would not want to be dragged into politics affirmed that he is completely apolitical and as a police officer, his job is to protect the lives and properties of citizens of Ondo State.

Ondo Gov react to CP, Salami & Deputy, Agboola’s drama

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has denied the reports that linked him to the drama which ensued at the government house on Saturday night.

A team of police officers led by their Commissioner, Bolaji Salami, had prevented the deputy governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, from leaving the State Government House in Akure.

Agboola, who has been at loggerheads with his boss, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, had wanted to move out of the government house for his private residence, claiming he no longer feels safe in the premises.

However, in a recorded video of the incident, the police commissioner stated that he was acting on the orders of his “boss”, Rotimi Akeredolu.

He added that his actions were wrong but ‘This is politics’.

In a widely circulated video, the CP was heard to have said: “We are not saying you should not go out. Since you are defecting, even your letter was brought to me in my office this evening that you are doing it (decamping) on Monday.

“What government is saying is that you cannot go out with official vehicles. This is politics, I am not saying it is right. This is Government House. The Governor is the one talking, give me a few minutes, let me talk to my boss.”

But Agboola replied, cautioning against a repeat of 1983 political violence.

He alleged that political thugs had been detailed to attack him and vandalize his property at the Government House once he declares for the PDP.

The Deputy Governor, flanked by two members of the House of Assembly Mr. Festus Akingbaso and Rasheed Elegbeleye, queried the Police chief: “Are you a member of the PDP or APC? It is you stopping me now. What is your concern about my leaving from one place to another? Do you know how many hours I have spent here? I personally paid for these vehicles. You should not have put yourselve in mess.

“I have tried all constitutional and acceptable means to prevent this crisis. You are being used by the governor to deprive me of my constitutional right. I am highly disappointed that a policeman of your calibre can be used like this.

“Let me tell you, you cannot repeat what happened in this state in 1983 because Ondo State people will resist you and your emperor with everything.”

Reacting to the incident on Sunday afternoon, Akeredolu said he didn’t give the orders to hold back his deputy.

He said: “Total Misrepresentation of facts. I did not tell the government house security to hold him back at any point. Why would I? Agbo can go anywhere he likes. I wish him well.”
