2023: Tinubu is getting nowhere in presidential run – Wike.

Advertisements

Wike, who accused media of constitutional betrayal, alleged that under the peaceful government of former President Goodluck Jonathan, media made the world to believe that Nigeria would collapse in the next 24 hours.

‘Nigeria under Buhari is a moving corpse’
Rivers State Governor Neysom Wike has urged National leader of ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, to channel his energy to other profitable ventures, stating that presidency would be out of reach of his party and himself come 2023 general elections.

Wike, who gave Tinubu the advice, yesterday, in Yola, Adamawa State, while on an inspection tour of projects being executed by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, said with the high performance of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors and alleged failure APC government under President Muhammadu Buhari is recording on daily basis, it is clear that Nigerians would not repeat the mistake of voting a party without direction.

Advertisements

“With what I saw today in Adamawa, I wonder how a normal person will not vote PDP again in this state. What is happening in Adamawa State is a replica of what is happening in other PDP states.

“With the massive development going on in PDP states and the massive corruption going on under APC regime, it is no longer news that PDP is on its way back to chase out invaders and lawfully take over its house and pilot Nigerians to the promised land,” he stated.

Advertisements

The Rivers governor, who applauded Transparency International (TI) rating of Nigeria on corruption, said the present APC leadership accept and protect corrupt persons.

File Photo: Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu | Noble Reporters Media | Adigun Michael Olamide | NoRM News

“Today, Wike can be the most corrupt governor, but immediately I decamp from PDP to APC, I am no longer corrupt. This means APC is a den for highly corrupt people. These are not my words, I am only quoting APC former national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole. Nigerians are intellectuals, they cannot enter again the boat that capsized with them,” he said.

Wike noted that Nigeria has never been divided like it is being experienced now under APC regime and that insecurity has become a huge industry under the administration of President Buhari.

Advertisements

The governor, who accused media of constitutional betrayal, alleged that under the peaceful government of former President Goodluck Jonathan, media made the world to believe that Nigeria would collapse in the next 24 hours.

According to him, the unholy silence of media at a time that the country is under threat of insecurity, economic collapse midwife by unfocused leadership, poses more danger to the country.

He advised APC leadership to move to Adamawa State and study how to develop people through projects, saying President Buhari could attest to development strides of Governor Fintiri.

Wike urged Fintiri not to be distracted by people he called envious political vultures, but to maintain his tempo of infrastructural development in Adamawa.

Advertisements

“Even I, as governor of an oil-producing state, I cannot construct underground flyover. I wonder where Fintiri is getting his money, but this is what we call, in PDP, determination to achieve. It is a strange word to the APC government. If you ask any of them to define development, that is the end of the discussion,” Wike said.

Fintiri, who commended Wike for the visit, assured the Rivers State governor that he would continue to offer PDP and Adamawa electorate services that would improve their livelihoods.

Buratai couldn’t ‘keep his mouth shut’ off politics – Wike

Advertisements

The governor warned that if the new service chiefs are to toe the path of those before them, then the nation will not experience any turnaround in security issues.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State says the security challenges faced under the former security chiefs came as a result of their delving into politics.

According to Governor Wike, “instead of concentrating on the security of the nation, the service chiefs were very much involved in politics.”

Advertisements

Speaking as a guest on NoRM‘s known Media, Wike urged the new leaders of the armed forces not to toe the path of their predecessors.

“This was the problem we had with the previous chiefs, they were involved in politics rather than face the security of the nation.

“Nobody can deny that fact; the moment you politicize security, then you are bound to have problems,” Wike stated via a zoom call.

Rivers States Governor, Nyesom Wike speak on why Buratai got sacked, others.

The PDP chieftain said the nation appreciates the change of service chiefs, but warned that the issues do not end at the exchange of baton.

“The new people that are appointed must ask themselves, what is our agenda? Is our agenda to continue with where the last service chiefs stopped, or to make sure we improve?”

Advertisements

The governor’s statement comes few hours after New Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Lucky Irabor led other service chiefs on an operational visit to the Headquarters, Command and Control Centre of Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital.

This trip by the new service chiefs serves as the first operational visit aimed at better prosecuting the war against the insurgents and other miscreants across the country, a task which Governor Wike says is too enormous to be mixed with politics.

Govs of Rivers & Bayelsa, Wike & Diri fights dirty over Soku Oil Well.

Advertisements

RIVERS and Bayelsa states have renewed their hostilities over the ownership of the Soku oil fields in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area and the revenue accruing from it.

Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri faulted the payment of the revenue from the Oil Well to Rivers despite the state’s appeal against a judgment ceding the resource to Rivers.

Advertisements

But his Rivers counterpart Nyesom Wike, disagreed.

He described Diri’s call to halt the ongoing remittance of Soku’s revenue to Rivers as unfortunate.

The Federal High Court in December 2019 declared that the oil wells belong to Rivers.

It ordered the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to pay revenue from the oil fields to the state.

Advertisements

Wike, who spoke when a delegation of RMAFC, led by Alhaji Mohammed Usman, visited him in Government House, Port Harcourt, insisted that the oil wells belonged to Rivers.

He urged RMAFC to continue paying the revenue to his state.

Wike said: “It is unfortunate that the Bayelsa State Governor told you when you visited him that you should not pay us revenue from Soku Oil Well.

“The matter was at the Supreme Court when the National Boundary Commission admitted that they made an error in their 11th edition publication by situating Soku Oil Well in Bayelsa State.

Advertisements

“They were, therefore, directed to correct the error in their 12th edition publication. When they also failed to correct it, we had to go back to the Federal High Court.

“The court, in its wisdom, directed that all revenue accruing from Soku Oil Well should be paid to Rivers State. That is the position.

“For Bayelsa State governor to come up to say that you should not pay us our money is unfortunate.

“If they have filed a matter at the Supreme Court, it is not an injunction to stop the implementation of the subsisting judgement.”

Advertisements

Diri, who had earlier the RMAFC delegation in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital, flayed the deductions in favour of Rivers.

He said the action was tantamount to ceding Bayelsa territory indirectly to Rivers.

He urged the commission to revisit its decision until the Supreme Court decides the boundary dispute.

He lamented that the action significantly affected the state’s allocation for this month.

Diri said: “The action by the commission is tantamount to ceding a part of Bayelsa to Rivers, which can breach the peace between both sister states.”

Douye Diri calls to amicably resolve dispute between Rivers and Bayelsa.

Advertisements

Gov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa has called on the Rivers State government to show understanding in order to amicably resolve the dispute between Oluasiri Clan in Bayelsa and their Kalabari neighbors in Rivers.

The Oluasiri communities in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa and their Kalabari Ijaw kinsmen are locked in dispute arising from the location of oil wells within the boundary area.

Diri made the plea in Yenagoa during a meeting with stakeholders from the Oluasiri clan led by the paramount ruler, Chief Iyerite Awululu.

Advertisements

He sought the support of Ijaw leaders and elders to resolve the age-long feud between the two Ijaw communities.

In a statement by his acting Chief Press Secretary, Mr Daniel Alabrah, the governor said the state government will protect its territories and work with the communities to ensure safety of residents.

“I’m calling on my brother governor of our sister state that this is a time that we need to look at the realities.

“As a people from the old Rivers State, we need to sit together and resolve our internal disputes, which should be easy to do because both feuding communities are of the Ijaw extraction.

Advertisements

“We have no difference between the Nembes and Kalabaris. They are all Ijaws and so no other person should beat the drums of war against two friendly Ijaw clans,” he said.

To this end, Diri directed his deputy, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, to chair a committee to drive the process of peaceful resolution of the boundary adjustment issues. He also restated his administration’s resolve to ensure the protection of lives and property across communities in the state.

The governor said his administration would engage security agencies on the need to curtail acts of lawlessness, particularly in the Oluasiri axis of the state.

“I will sit with my security commanders and see if we can beef up security in Oluasiri to protect lives and property.

Advertisements

“We have already set the ball rolling and we will take some security measures in that area in the interim pending when a substantive police station will be set up,” he said.

Also, the governor directed the state Ministry of Health and Water Resources to make the cottage hospital built by Shell Petroleum Development Company functional as well as provide potable water.

Earlier, spokesman of the clan, Mr Iniruo Wills, highlighted a number of issues that require government’s intervention.

Wills said the meeting was to seek assistance in the areas of security and resolution of the legal dispute between the two states concerning the boundary delineation among others.

This followed the presentation of the budget by the Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, to him at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Rivers: Fishermen butcher Manatee sea cow | Video

Fishermen in Adada Community, Odual Kingdom, Rivers State in Nigeria, caught, killed a Manatee Sea Cow with a spear and began buttering the animal for community consumption.

Manatee, otherwise known as the sea cow, is a marine mammal, considered to be among the world’s endangered species which are not to be killed.

A Twitter user, by name Julius Diamond (@juliusdiamondd), posted on the social media site a video and photos of the manatee / sea cow when it was caught and while it was butchered and cut in pieces.

He wrote;

Community jolliment: Fisherman kills Sea Cow with Spear in Adada Community, Odual Kingdom, Rivers State.

All households in the community usually get a share of the meat.

Congratulations sir.

Advertisements

Watch video below.

In January 2018, some villagers in Sapele in Delta State, South-south of Nigeria.reportedly caught the sea cow (manatee) and cut it to pieces for community consumption. That year, Edem Eniang, a biodiversity conservationist in Nigeria, described the killing of the manatee as a big loss and a shame to Nigeria.

Mr. Eniang, who is a senior lecturer and a specialist in Wildlife Resources Management ‏at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, said he was aware of the incident and that he has notified other interested experts around the world.

“It is not only in Sapele; in Lagos State alone, three manatees have been killed since December, last year, to this January,” he told Media on Monday.

“There is also a story of a stranded whale in Ondo State. A young whale got stranded by a seashore. While it was still alive, Nigerians only found it necessary to stand on top of it to take selfies and posted it online.

Advertisements

“They started butchering the whale when it was still breathing.

“And the most painful components, aside from the killing of the manatee and the whale, if you read people’s commentary online, you will find out, very sadly, that 70 per cent or more of the Nigerian population are stark illiterate as far as conservation is concerned,” Mr. Eniang said.

Mr. Eniang appealed to the Nigerian media to help enlighten the people on the importance of conservation.

Nigeria is mentioned among the countries where the hunting of manatee is reported to be worst in Africa.

Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike

“From the first days of this virus, we took serious measures and literally set the pace in our country to slow down the spread.

“We have noticed that most affected people are resorting to self medication instead of presenting themselves for treatment at the State’s Treatment Centres.

“Those who experience symptoms of fever, cough, loss of smell or taste and shortness of breath, among others should present themselves for appropriate treatment at the expense of the State Government.

“Furthermore, in the face of increasing infections and systemic risk to public health and safety, most residents have continued to disregard the mitigating protocols with reckless abandon.

“Public and private transporters, business owners and churches are refusing to adhere to the relevant protocols,” he said.

In a deepening drama in the All Progressives Congress, a Rivers State High Court has restrained Victor Giadom from parading himself as a member of the National Working Committee of party.

The court based its order on Giadom’s resignation as Deputy National Secretary of the APC, when he went to vie for the position of Deputy Governor in Rivers in 2019.

Giadom has been waving a court order by an Abuja court that appointed him as acting national chairman.

The APC National Working Committee responded by formally accepting his letter of resignation.

The party also further asked the South South zone to nominate a replacement.

Today, Justice Florence Fiberesima, granted an exparte order knocking Giadom out of the throne he was trying to claim.

Two stalwarts of the APC in Rivers State, Dele Moses and Azunda Awori, had through their counsel, F.C. Nwafor, filed application for a restraining order.

They sought to stop Giadom from parading himself as either the Acting National Chairman or Deputy National Secretary of the party.

They insisted that Giadom had resigned his position as a member of the NWC of the APC to contest the 2019 election as deputy governor on the platform of the party.

Joined in the suit were the APC and the Caretaker Committee Chairman of APC in the state, Rt. Hon. Igo Aguma.

The application reads in part: “A declaration that sequel to the resignation of the 3rd defendant (Hon Victor Giadom) as Deputy National Secretary of the 1st Defendant (APC) in 2018, for the purposes of contesting in the 2019 general election as Deputy Governor of Rivers State, the 3rd defendant is no longer the Deputy National Secretary of the 1st Defendant.

“A declaration that the 3rd Defendant (Hon Victor Giadom) is not a member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the 1st Defendant having resigned his membership of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the 1st Defendant for purposes of contesting in the 2019 general election as the Deputy Governor of Rivers State.

“A declaration that the resignation of the 3rd Defendant (Hon Victor Giadom) as the Deputy National Secretary of the 1st Defendant in 2018 is valid and effective from 2018 till date.

“A declaration that the 3rd Defendant (Hon Victor Giadom) is not the National Chairman, or Acting National Chairman, or Deputy National Secretary or otherwise howsoever a member of the National Working Committee of the 1st Defendant.

“An order restraining the 3rd Defendant (Hon Victor Giadom) from issuing, signing or endorsing any document or correspondence to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) or any other body or institution in the capacity of the National Chairman or Acting National Chairman of the 1st Defendant or howsoever as an officer of the 1st Defendant.

An order of perpetual injunction restraining the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Defendants from recognizing or regarding the 3rd Defendant as either a member of the National Working Committee (NWC), the Deputy National Secretary, National Chairman or Acting National Chairman of the 1st Defendant.”

In another statement today, the national publicity secretary of APC, Lanre Issa-Onilu said there is no leadership vacuum in the party.

He debunked the claims of Victor Giadom to the throne.

He affirmed that Abiola Ajimobi, former Oyo governor is the acting national chairman, in the absence of Adams Oshiomhole, who has been suspended by the Appeal Court.

Issa-Onilu said the party has another high court order dated 13 March that validated the NWC positions of Abiola Ajimobi and Waziri Bulama.

Ajimobi is the deputy chairman of the APC and Waziri, the national secretary.

Both emerged as replacements for holders who went to take other positions, outside of the party structure.

Ajimobi replaced Adeniyi Adebayo, now minister of industries.

Bulama replaced Mai Bala Bunu, who is the governor of Yobe state.

[Nigeria] Former Rivers Commissioner Condemn Wike’s Demolition of Hotels’ idea.

Advertisements

Austin Tam-George, ex-Commissioner for Information in Rivers State, has condemned the recent actions of his former principal, Governor Nyesom Wike.

On Sunday, two hotels in the Eleme community were pulled down, a development that sparked outrage.

Governor Wike personally monitored the demolition exercise, which he said was the consequence of the violation of his COVID-19 executive order.

In a statement on Monday, Tam-George regretted that no formal charges were brought against the affected hotels before a court of law.

He also complained that the owners had no opportunity to defend themselves before a judge.

Tam-George described Wike’s Executive Order as a spurious, draconian, ill-defined and sickening pattern of lawlessness and impunity.

He recalled that in July 2017, Wike shut down and revoked the Certificate of Occupancy of Novotel Hotel in Port Harcourt, allegedly because his critics lodged there.

Tam-George wrote: “In the past three years, Mr Wike has deployed his private army of thugs, disguised as State “Task Forces”, to kill innocent citizens, loot markets and shops, terrorize young women in Port Harcourt, and extort money from drivers and traders.

“On the 24th April, Sergeant Lavender Elekwachi, a traffic warden on duty in the Eneka area of the State, was murdered in cold blood by Governor Wike’s marauding Task Force.

“On the 27th of April, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michele Bachelet warned governments to refrain from violating fundamental human rights under the guise of emergency measures during the COVID-19 crisis.

“But in the past six weeks of the pandemic, Governor Wike has caused the death of a law enforcement agent, confiscated private properties, demolished hotels, brutalized market women in Port Harcourt and held pilots and oil workers on essential duties in illegal detention.

“The alarming acts of lawlessness by Mr Wike means that Rivers State has descended into a state of anarchy. State institutions have been hijacked by a lawless government, and the people themselves have been ‘kidnapped’ by a moral hoodlum in power.”

Tam-George urged the United Nations Human Rights Commission to commence criminal proceedings against Wike.

He appealed to the United States (US) and the European Union (EU) to initiate money laundering investigations, visa restrictions and asset freezes against the Rivers helmsman.

“Governor Wike is well-known for his expensive vacation junkets to European cities, even as children die from preventable water-borne diseases in Rivers State”, the former commissioner added.

Wike, Governor Insist Soku Oil Wells Belong To Rivers State.

…says the boundary shifting was a mistake

The disputed Soku oil wells belong to Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Wike has maintained.

He pointed out the Supreme Court had affirmed the oil wells belong to Rivers following admission by the National Boundary Commission (NBC) that it erroneously shifted the boundary between Rivers and Bayelsa States from River Santa Barbara to River Saint Batholomew in the 11th Edition of the Administrative Map of Nigeria.

He spoke with reporters in Port-Harcourt on Monday.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, Wike said: “In 2002, the NBC altered the boundary in the 11th Edition of the Administrative Map of Nigeria.

“They made a mistake by shifting the boundary from River Santa Barbara to River St Batholomew. At the Supreme Court, the NBC wrote a letter a admitting their error.

“The Supreme Court made an order for the NBC to correct the error of the 11th Edition in the 12th Edition,” he said.

Wike lamented seven years after the Supreme Court gave the order the NBC was yet to effect the correction.

He said that preliminary report on the 12th edition indicated that the NBC made no attempt to obey the order of the Supreme Court.

“We had to sue the NBC to enforce the order of the Supreme Court where they were directed to ensure that the Boundary between Rivers and Bayelsa State is River Santa Barbara.

He said there was nothing personal in the fight for Soku Oil Wells.

“I am protecting what belongs to Rivers State Ijaw. I am protecting what belongs to Rivers State. “

He accused Bayelsa Governor Seriake Dickson of plotting to hijack the oil wells.

“The outgoing Bayelsa State Governor is the one trying to cause disharmony by attempting to collect what belongs to the Ijaw in Rivers State.”

He berated Dickson for refusing to respect the rules of Protocol when he visited the Amanyanabo of Kalabari without informing the Rivers State Government.

“The person talking about invading Rivers State in January 2020 lacks respect for Protocol. If he was well schooled, would he use that phrase that he wants to invade Rivers State?

“You have no respect. A Traditional Ruler who is a First Class ruler, recognised by Government and you say you are coming to a state as a Governor to see Rivers Ijaw people without observing Basic Protocol.

“Protocol demands you call your colleague that you are coming to the State. Even then, the Traditional Ruler failed to communicate with the State Government.

And I said, if you do this next time, I will withdraw the Recognition. I didn’t say I will dethrone him.

“I don’t make Chiefs. But I have the power to recognise or take back recognition if you run foul of the law. I have no regrets about it.

“Anyone who runs foul of the law, I will withdraw the Recognition and heaven will not fall. I never said that I will dethrone the Amanyanabo of Kalabari.

“I said that I will withdraw the Recognition by the Rivers State Government if he continues to disrespect the office of the Governor and not play according to the rules.

“How can Dickson invade Rivers State when he cannot defend Bayelsa State?”
