Storyline: Adeboye pledge to report rapists to God.

Advertisements

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer (GO) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has vowed that he and his prayer warriors will not rest in prayers until the perpetrators of rape are accorded stiffer penalty.

He declared during a live programme on DOVE TV, monitored in Ibadan on Sunday, that the issue of rape had become rampant in the society.

Adeboye described rape as bad and unbiblical that it could leave a permanent scar on the victim for the rest of her life.

Advertisements

According to him, no pain can be compared to the pain of the parents whose daughter had been raped.

“Myself and prayer warriors will not rest in prayers until the perpetrators of this evil are brought to justice, not only in Nigeria but all over the world.

Advertisements

“Everyone who has ever committed rape, particularly in Nigeria and the world, the all-knowing God will fish them.

“As much as I hate death sentence, I think every form of punishment that will be given to a rapist cannot be considered too severe.

Advertisements

“Anyone, whoever thinks of raping someone again, the almighty God will stop them even before they do so and if they insist God will take them away.

“I am calling on every Christian all over the world to please join me in this prayer,” he said.

Advertisements

Adeboye also urged the faithful never to embrace the spirit of ‘good enough’ because it could be an enemy of greatness.

He, therefore, urged those who had not surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ to do so.

It will also deter rape victims from speaking up because of disbelief and stigma.

Pastor Arrested After Drugging, Raping 19-year-old.

Advertisements

The Founder and General Overseer of Victory Revival Fasting and Prayer Ministry in Warri, Delta state, Bishop Elijah Orhonigbe, has been arrested and arraigned in court for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl, name withheld, within his church hall on Wednesday, May 20.

While taking the suspect to court, the commandant of the Warri Area Command, ACP Mohammed Garba, said the evidence so far collected has proven a case of rape. He said the clergyman invited the victim and her mum to church for deliverance, claiming that he saw a vision of the spirit of death hovering around their family. It was during the deliverance session that he allegedly drugged the victim and then raped her.

Garba said the clergyman went into hiding after he committed the crime but was arrested last Friday, June 5.

“She said the pastor had a dream that death is hovering in their house and for peace to reign, she should bring her daughter for prayers. And the woman took the lady to the church. I think what really happened is that the pastor drugged that lady and raped her. I personally took the lady to the hospital because she was in coma for two days.

Advertisements

We looked for this pastor for the past two weeks. Later on, I used my detectives to trace where he hid. I got him arrested and I am charging him to Court now.

We have evidence to prove rape and we have established that this pastor has raped that girl. We have the pictures. We have examined her. I took her to the doctor. He has examined her private parts and we have everything to charge this man to Court” Garba said, NRM learnt

Advertisements

He dismissed claims made by the clergyman that the police were asking him for bribe so they can drop the charges against him.

The victim on her part, said the clergyman had told her mum, Mrs Taye Edema who attends his church, to bring her for deliverance as he saw a vision that she slept with an internet fraudster, who cleaned her up with a handkerchief, with the intention to use her for ritual.

Advertisements

The victim said it was during the deliverance session that the accused pastor gave her olive oil to drink and some to apply on her private part before asking her to strip naked and lie down on a mat in the church.

“He started making love to me from the back. That was all I could remember. There was sperm all over my body. I shouted. He even said I should come again. I want to be the last he will do this to,” she said

Advertisements

The accused however denied the allegation, insisting he did not rape her

”She came to church on that fateful day, May 20. The mother brought her to the church for deliverance and I prayed for her in front of the altar in the presence of three persons. Immediately after the prayer, she left the church around 12. She came back 5 o’ clock with policemen and crowd saying ‘this is the man’. If not, I did not rape her,” he said

Advertisements

Commenting on the incident, the state Commissioner for Police, CP Mohammed Hafiz Inuwa, said the law must be made to take its course on the matter.

“ It’s a case of rape in which the bishop drugged the girl in the pretext of deliverance, when he thereafter, raped her. All efforts to make the Police compromise on the case hit a brick wall because the law of this country is not a respecter of anyone. We remain resolute to be just in our investigation,” he said

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Aliyu, has stated that the best punishment for rapists is for them to be castrated.

The Minister stated this while distributing palliatives to the leadership of FCT National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) FCT chapter and Nigeria Football Association of Coaches FCT chapter.

Prescribing the punishment amid an increase in cases of rape and murder in Nigeria, Aliyu stated that such will deter others.

According to her: “We will involve every member of the community in this battle against rape. Just recently, we are in search of one offender, and definitely we will nip it in the bud. And in conjunction with all the security outfits, NAPTIP, in the Federal Capital Territory, we are in the watch, and for any offender that we get, we will take it to any length to ensure that he is not fit to live.

“We are also pushing for serious institutional framework that will ensure that justice is done. It is not enough to just jail such person, definitely punishment like castration will do. When we kill them, they die and not remembering anything, therefore they should be castrated and roam the streets and remain inactive”.

Legalize pepper spray, stun gun for females – Oluwo.

Advertisements

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi has advised the Federal Government to legalise the use of pepper spray and stun for females to protect themselves from rape.

The Oluwo of Iwo stated that such is necessary due to the increased cases of rape in Nigeria.

This is contained in a statement issued by his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem.

The statement reads: “The reported cases of raping is alarming and call for a serious concert by responsible stakeholders. Apart from a constitutional penalty against rapists, I want to charge the government to consider the legalisation of the use of stun guns and pepper spray by females as protective items against unapproved sexual attempts.

Advertisements

“Many ladies were raped and killed. I’ve strong trust that the items, when approved for females will protect them against such an unjust treatment and return sanctity to our society”

“By that, the constitutional provision is a long term punishment while pepper spray and stun gun are short term defence measure. The defence instruments could form part of females’ accessories in their handbags and purses.

Advertisements

“The spate of reoccurrences is unassuming. It must be checkmated through further constitutional legislations to invite sanity to our society and respect the dignity of Nigerian females.

“There are training sessions available overseas even in South Africa for females to learn how to use it in warding off attackers.

Advertisements

“Rapists are coward animals and not human. The trauma of their victims is an eternal curse of no remedy. Raped victims are no doubt mentally disturbed and emotional imbalance. When done with mutual consent and agreement, the two enjoin and enjoy in merriment.

“Raped victims should not be ashamed. Talk about it and you shall be assisted. It is never the end of life. Though, an ugly experience but should be shared overtly or covertly to unravel and penalize offenders and serve as a deterrent to others. A problem shared is a problem solved. If shared, many ladies will learn to prevent similar experience while the likes of perpetrators are warned against such.

Advertisements

“The perpetrators should not take advantage of a lady visiting your home. Even, a responsible husband and wife seek each others consent before engaging in sex. No lady deserves to be forced for sex. Sex is dignity and should be respected through mutual consent by both genders.

“Nigerian government should enforce a penalty against rapists. Legislators can come up with stricter legislation to protect the pride of Nigerian females and approve the use of defence items. Doing such will speak sense to greedy sexual men and restore normalcy”

Uwaila’s Rape: Mother of decease wail

Advertisements

It was a pitiable sight at the Ogbeide Street off NNPC Depot Fence Road residence residence of the family of 22 year-old female student of University of Benin, Uwaila Omozuwa, who was raped and murdered last week. Her mother, in between sobs, narrated the pains the family was going through over the death of Uwaila.

She was reportedly gang-raped and beaten by her assailants who inflicted deep head injuries on her and abandoned for dead. The church security guard was said to have discovered the incident when he went to collect the keys to the church and was told that somebody had earlier come to collect the key and was inside the church.

It was gathered that for the past five years, late Uwaila had been using the hall of the Redeemed Christian Church of God situated at Osa-Amadasun Street, Ohovbe Quarters which she attended as her reading house and the church was about five minutes walk from her residence. On the fateful day, May 27th, she also went to read in the church hall since schools had been shut because of the covid-19 pandemic.

Advertisements

Tragedy however struck when according to her mother she waited for her to return but did not see her daughter and she was getting worried when a church member called her that there was an emergency in their church. She said she was shocked and devastated when she saw the mangled body of her daughter in the hospital.

A visibly distraught Mrs Joy Omozuwa narrated the incident of her second child:

Advertisements

“She is my second child, the most gentle of all my children and was always interested in her book. What happened to my daughter is so painful; I never knew this was how she will die. On that fateful day, May 27th, I left home with her and she went to the church to read. For over five years now, she had been going to the church to read, so, that day she did the same thing. When the schools were shut as a result of COVID 19 pandemic, she had been going there to study because she said she didn’t want to have any carry over in her examination. I waited till in the evening when I normally called her if it was getting late although she didn’t have a fixed time that she would come. Sometimes she came home 5 pm, sometimes 6 pm or 2 pm depending on her mood.

“By 5 pm, I tried to call her but her line was not going through. There was a boy who was also a member of the church staying near the church whom she said sometimes came around and she had told me that I should not panic if I didn’t see her on time but unfortunately, I didn’t have the boy’s number so I was becoming worried. I saw off a member of our church who came to visit me and by the time I returned, I missed three calls from Mrs Osula who is also a member of the church and stayed close to the church. She asked to come to the church quickly and when I got there, I was told that Uwa had been rushed to the hospital.

Advertisements

“They said they met her with her eyes blindfolded, her mouth tied and her hands tied behind her like a criminal. She was untied and when they noticed that she moved her hand, they quickly took her to Enoma hospital. When I saw my daughter, there was blood all over her body, the white top she wore had turned red with her blood; I looked at her ear, there was blood coming out of it as well as her nose while she had a swollen eye. There was a very big cut on one part of her head and another deep cut close to one of her eyes. She was also raped. So, I had to sum up courage, I started cleaning the blood from her body and they were giving her drip while she was breathing intermittently and at times she would stretch her body.

“My husband came and said he had gone to the scene of the incident and that the blood stain was too much, so we had to move her to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH. When we got there, the doctors told us that it was 50-50 chance for her to survive because the injury was much but that they would try their best. But she did not make it and she died on Saturday.”

Advertisements

Uwaila’s father, Elder Johnson Omozuwa was unhappy with the slow response of the police when he reported the matter at the station. He said; “I want the authorities and security agencies to dig into the root of this matter, I don’t want my daughter to die in vain. I went to report the matter at the police station that night but police refused to go with me to the scene of the incident till the following day. I saw my daughter in a pool of blood and I ran to the police but the police refused to go with me. A neutral team should be sent by the police to investigate this matter.

“I will remember my daughter as a disciplined child. She wrote UTME three times and she never scored below 240, she wanted to read medicine and the third time she chose nursing but she was given Microbiology. She didn’t want to take it but I advised her to take it being a brilliant girl.

The House, at the plenary on Thursday, rejected the motion which was recommended by Mr James Faleke.

“This is to strengthen and enhance the capacity of the Units to respond to increasing challenges of sexual assaults and domestic/gender-based violence linked with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and other social ills within the country”, said a statement by Force Spokesman Frank Mba.
