Just in: court upholds rape case of former chrisland school supervisor

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has affirmed the judgment of the Sexual Offences Court which convicted and sentenced a Chrisland School supervisor, Adegboyega Adenekan, to 60 years’ imprisonment for defiling a two-year-old pupil.

The Presiding Justice of the Appeal Court, Justice Lawal Garuba who read the lead judgment held that the appeal filed by the convict lacks merit.

The other justices on the panel, Justice Gabriel Kolawole and Justice Bilkisu Aliyu also agreed with the lead judgment.

On Oct 24, 2019, Adenekan, 47, was convicted on one count of defilement of the pupil, who attended Chrisland School, VGC, an offence committed sometime in November 2016.

In her judgement, Justice Sybil Nwaka held that the prosecution proved its case against the convict beyond every reasonable doubt, adding that the evidence of the child that the convict defiled her twice was corroborated by a medical report from the Mirabel Centre, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

The victim, in her evidence before the court, said Mr Adenekan put his mouth and his hand in her wee-wee (private parts). She also said that the supervisor put his mouth in the private parts of her best friend (name withheld).

The little girl said Adenekan covered her mouth when she attempted to shout and that he defiled her twice on the school premises, at his office and at the hallway.

This defendant is conscienceless, wicked, an animal, and not fit to walk on the streets.

“I hereby sentence Adegboyega Adenekan to 60 years’ imprisonment. This is the sentence of the court,” the judge held.

Dissatisfied with the verdict, the convict through his lawyer, Olatunde Adejuyigbe, SAN, appealed against the whole judgment

He contended that the Prosecution had not proved the essential ingredients of the offence with which the appellant was charged.

Counsel for the State, Mr Babajide Boye asked the court of appeal to dismiss the appeal and uphold the judgment of the lower court.

In a unanimous judgment today, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal and affirmed the Judgement of the lower Court.

During the trial, the prosecution called seven witnesses and closed its case on March 14, 2019, while the defence team also called five witnesses and closed its case on June 26, 2019.

Rape: Seyitan had no evidence against Dbanj – Police says

The Nigeria Police have cleared popular Nigerian singer and songwriter D’banj, of the rape allegations leveled against him by a twitter user Miss Seyitan Babatayo.

This was contained in a report signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Umar Sanda on behalf of Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigations Department, Force Headquarters, and obtained by the Newsmen, on Saturday.

It would be recalled that the allegation led to strong social and media controversy with several declarations of the innocence of the singer by his fans and admirers coming up against those who believed Babatayo was telling the truth.

D’banj had claimed that there was no truth in the allegation and blamed it on the handiwork of his enemies who he alleged were out to destroy his hard-earned reputation.

The musician subsequently instituted an N1.5 Billion defamation lawsuit against Babatayo in spite of the support she got from a prominent women’s rights group.

However, the report by the police investigation unit did not find any substantial evidence to prove that D’banj committed the act and that Babatayo had withdrawn the petition filed against D’banj.

“This is a case of indecent assault on female, rape, intimidation, and the threat to life reported by Seyitan Babatayo through a petition letter dated June 5, 2020, by the Law firm of Ojoge, Omileye, and Partners against Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo a.k.a D’banj.

“The petition is to the Inspector-General of Police which was endorsed to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police FCID for investigation and further referred to the ACP SEB/PEPF for investigation and report.

“The fact of this case is that on Dec. 30, 2018, Mr. Franklin Amudo who was a manager to the suspect invited the complainant Seyitan to an all-white party at Eko Atlantic in Lagos, where the suspect performed as a guest music artiste.

“The complainant alleged that D’banj had sex with her against her wish but in view of the foregoing facts, the investigation was discontinued as there was no substantial evidence to prove the allegation of rape against the suspect,” the report read in parts.

Meanwhile, Babatayo has denied the statement that she reached out to Human Rights Activist and #ENDSARS advocate, Mr. Segun Awosanya, a.k.a Segalink, asking for his intervention in the rape case.

Babatayo urged her supporters especially STER, a non-governmental organization to act with honesty in the matter even as she expressed appreciation for the group’s support so far.

Awosanya had equally demanded an apology following a statement from the nongovernmental organization that he was contacted by Babatayo on the matter.

He described the allegation as deliberate and mischievous falsehood intended to malign his person and reputation.

“I demand a retraction of the group’s statement and the issuing of an apology within the next 24 hours or a lawsuit will follow,” Awosanya said

Seyitan speaks amid dismissal of rape petition against Dbanj

Seyitan Babatayo has taken to her twitter to release a statement after it was revealed that she has withdrew her petition against singer D’banj after accusing him of rape.

Seyitan made other points in her statement as she ended with: “I really want my PEACE. Thank you.”

“I want my peace,” Seyitan Babatayo says as she releases statement after dismissing her petition against D
In a statement released after Seyitan withdrew her petition against the musician, Stand To End Rape Initiative (STER) challenged activist Segun Awosanya, aka Segalink of trying to “pervert justice” in the case between Seyitan Babatayo and D’banj.

STER also claimed in the report that Segalink texted an address to Seyitan and asked her to attend a meeting with D’banj there.

STER said the meeting was aimed at negotiating a special settlement and Seyitan’s legal counsel was also scheduled to be in attendance.

The NGO said that they were also invited to the meeting but declined because “out-of-court settlements go against STER’s policy.”

STER said that “such settlements, in our experience, often involve an asymmetry of power between the accused and victim.”
They added in the statement: “More importantly, while private settlements are usual in civil disputes, they are, however, not applicable to criminal cases, particularly where a felony has been alleged to have been committed, only the State has the authority to discontinue a criminal investigation and prosecution.

Singer, Dbanj ‘cleared’ of rape charges

Seyitan Babatayo, who accused popular musician, Oladapo Oyebanjo widely known as D’Banj, of rape has written a letter to the Nigerian police withdrawing her petition.

D’Banj Finally Reacts To Rape Allegation
This development occurred after the police insisted that it has been unable to make a case of rape against the musician,

In a letter addressed to the Inspector-General of Police via her lawyer, Olamide Omileye, said she was withdrawing from the case for personal reasons.

See photo;

The letter read in part, “We hereby officially notify you of our client’s intention to withdraw and discontinue her petition against Mr. Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo aka D’Banj for personal reasons. Our client further humbly applies that the investigation and all other action that is currently being carried out by the police with respect to the statement.”

Responding to the letter, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admin), Umar Sanda, said” investigation had discontinued due to lack of evidence.”

The letter posted on Twitter by blogger, Kemi Olunloyo, read in part, “In view of the foregoing facts, investigation was discontinued as no substantial evidence to prove the allegation of rape against the suspect.”

N1.5bn rape lawsuit: D’banj pledge giveaway

Popular Nigerian singer, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, better known as D’banj, has promised to have a giveaway for the ‘real victims’ of rape from the N1.5billion he is demanding as damages from his accuser.

The Koko master who has maintained his innocence in the rape allegation brought against him by a woman named Seyitan Babatayo, sued her through his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, a human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

The 40-year-old said this on Saturday in reply to a fan with Twitter username, @EkehWest, who asked him to give his fans a share of the money when he gets it.

Introduce Castration – Afe Babalola suggest over increased rape cases

Legal luminary and founder of Afe Babalola University, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), on Wednesday condemned the rising spate of rape cases, and called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on rape matters.

The elder statesman, in a statement by his Media Coordinator, Tunde Olofintila, in Ado-Ekiti, also recommended an amendment to the laws relating to rape, such that rapists would not be imprisoned only, but castrated to serve as deterrent to others.

Justifying Babalola’s position, the statement said that the society was worried by the prevalence of rape, emphasising that castrating perpetrators of rape could not be said to be too much.

It asserted that such punishment had become necessary bearing in mind the physical, psychological and emotional pains rapists inflicted on their victims and families.

The statement recalled the case of 22-year-old Vera Omozuwa, a 100 Level student of University of Benin, and that of 19-year-old Barakat Bello, a student of the Institute of Agriculture, Research and Training, Ibadan who were raped and murdered.

It noted that the society could not afford to fold its arms without drastic actions.

“The prevalence of rape cases is not only alarming, but worrisome. It is worrisome in the sense that it is inconceivable that a male could forcefully rape someone and goes further to kill her.

“Today, we have cases where fathers rape their daughters which, to me, is abnormal. We have young men raping young girls and killing them, why?

“Every concerned Nigerian is worried by the problem. You can imagine your daughter going to school and she is gang-raped. This is totally unacceptable and we should rise with one voice to fight the menace.

”In my days, when I was young, rape was unknown. There were no super rich people but there was no poverty. To me, poverty is one reasons why people rape.

“An unemployed person, who is also poor, will find it difficult to have a lady friend or wife and when he has desire and there is no means, he can be pushed to raping a lady,” the statement quoted Babalola as explaining.

It also blamed the frequent cases of rape and murder on use of hard drugs, stressing that anyone on drugs could not be presumed normal, which might have been responsible for some fathers raping their own children.

The statement frowned at some herbalists who would assure people that making use of women’s under wears or cutting parts of a lady’s genitals could make them rich.

It stressed that society would only recover from the scourge of rape through constant vigilance, observance of religious tenets of love, provision of employment and avoidance of drugs.

He further revealed that Bola, who is a practicing doctor in Nigeria, and not the UK, insisted on coming to the UK to visit, for reasons best known to her, as her Visa was initially not granted.

According to him, they had consensual sex, twice. The 1st being after they were both drunk, only for her to tell him the next day she didn’t give her consent to the sex they had.

He then mentioned that he specifically asked her if she was insinuating he sexually abused her and she replied saying NO.

In his rebuttal, Harvey wrote on how he accommodated Bola for 4 months in his apartment despite the duo not being in talking terms, and his only crime was him not allowing her into his heart.

Dr. Funmilayo Rape Allegation: Dr. Bola Aseyan drops more Fact

Doctor Bola Aseyan, the lady who accused popular UK-based Nigerian doctor, Dr. Harvey Funmilayo of rape has revealed more details about her stay with him in the UK.

Earlier today, Bola Aseyan called out Dr Harvey, for sexually and emotionally abusing her.

According to her, the Twitter influencer sexually and emotionally abused her for so long but she hid it to protect her and also his profession.

She however disclosed that she couldn’t bear the pains and trauma any longer and had to come out to tell her story.

Read her initial post:

A woman can only tolerate so much abuse from a man. A completely different persona online, and a truly horrible man in person, an abuser to say the least, both sexually and emotionally. A human can only tolerate so much!

I have proof all these madness. And God in heaven knows I dread the negative type of attention but people deserve to know what a horrible human being this man is!!!! Horribly terrible!!!!

Now you are calling people to call me and speak to me ba?!!! You are calling frantically. When you were sexually and emotionally abusing, you didn’t know it would resort to this. Because Bola doesn’t air dirty laundry, Bola is private, you think I’m stupid??!

Your fav influencer has sexually and emotionally abused me for so long, and I’ve been hiding it. I didn’t want to say anything because I DESPERATELY didn’t want to be in the news for anything bad here. I kept telling myself it would be over soon. I cannot take it anymore!

Everyone is telling me to consider his profession and not say anything, i shouldn’t say anything. How about how I feel? Everytime. I’m tired. I haven’t done a thing to deserve this. I have lodged a formal complaint with the police today! I cannot and will not take this anymore!

We are both doctors. Both of us. And I’ve been too nice just because I thought it would end soon. You bully me everytime. You know I hate social media issues and you have a lot of followers so it’s okay to do all these to me ba? Right!!

I didn’t press charges, only because you would lose your license to practise, and I cannot bear to carry that much guilt in my heart. Even with everything that you’ve done, I’m still not a mean spirited person. I leave you to God to judge you, and my head will judge you!!!

I am irritated to say the least at those who think my life occurrence is a gist that’s waiting to happen. You think I’m tweeting with eagerness and happiness. You think I want to be in this position or it’s a joke. I am hurting.I am sad and I’ve never thought it’ll resort to this

I use God to beg our fellow medical doctors in my DM asking me not to tweet or let it go. Please and please, they won’t abuse your children. Pls don’t give me unsolicited advise. I didn’t press charges even though the cops here in the UK asked me to, don’t push it.

Your favorite online influencer also a medical doctor in the UK who always has an opinion on every topic on Twitter, he is morally upright on the Internet, yet does the exact opposite of what he preaches online, preaching against rape and doing the exact opposite in person.

I’m not the victim in this case thankfully!!! The women who went through same in the hands of this doctor and didn’t have the courage to come out. Those are the real victims. Undermining my privacy for gullibility was his first mistake.

Online Bullies are the reason a lot of people do not narrate their ordeals in the hands of their so called favorite influencers. They have 150K+ followers, the fear of taking their supporters on dissuades people from coming forward. I have filed a complaint legally and done my part

Dr FUNMILAYO is the accused!

As expected, social media users questioned her further on the accusation, hoping to get enough facts before the doctor is given a ‘social media trial’ just as the case is with many issues of rape brought on the platform.

In a new post she made this evening, Bola Aseyan opened up further on her stay in the UK, giving specific details on how he invited her to the UK.

She wrote:

  1. Absolutely None of the pictures or videos of me in the UK were taken by Dr Funmilayo 2. I PAID 100000% for my VISA FEE and FLIGHT TICKETS To and Fro. (NB: with MY money)
  2. Due to our previous relationship, he sent an invitation letter to me and my TRIP was meant to be a 3 week Trip with a flexible return ticket. Unfortunately, the lockdown was enforced.
  3. During the abuse, the Air BnB’s contacted were not accepting bookings and movement was restricted within the UK. 5. I was never a Financial Burden while cohabiting.

CSO frowns at posting videos, photos of rape victims

The Women’s Voice Leadership (WVL), a Civil Society Organisation (CSO) in Bauchi State, has appealed to the media anc individuals to stop posting graphic images and videos of rape victims.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Bauchi by Mrs Comfort Attah, a representative of WVL, the group said reporting incidents of rape should be productive, nurturing, not a report of salacious details.

“Media reports that are thoughtful and that do not expose those who have had horrible experiences to further trauma.

“You must support survivors and honour their confidentiality by refusing to play into the media desire for details,” she urged.

Also, Legal practitioner, others urge support for rape victims.

Attah also urged the media to avoid the use of graphics or videos of rape victims because they are often subjected to scrutiny and in some cases to mistreatment.

“Images that try to recreate the scene, or show a distraught woman whose world has seemingly fallen apart or use of colours like red and black that suggest blood and something sinister, can hold up the process of recovery.

“Imagine what the rape survivor feels when she sees illustrations like these, you are recreating the horror,” she said.

According to her, CSOs including ASHHF, RAHAMA and FOMWAN have watched with concern the increased cases of rape and gender based violence towards women in the state.

She said that the WVL has recorded several cases of rape that were yet to be taken to court because there was no punishable law for perpetrators and stigma that was associated with it.

Attah said that the CSO had paid advocacy visits to the state commissioner of police, as well as traditional and religious leaders on the need to curb violence against girls, young persons and women.

Father lay with Daughter of 3 in Ibadan

Social media user, Karimot Odebode recounted how a father allegedly raped his 3 year old daughter in Ibadan and how her mother is crying out for justice for her child.

According to Karimot, the father raped his daughter at least two times before her mother knew that was what he had done to her the first time. The little girl’s mother is now reportedly being threatened by her family and husband and she currently has no safe place to stay.

Three year old girl allegedly raped by her father in Ibadan

She wrote;

A 3years old girl was raped by her own father here in Ibadan.

The mother first noticed on June 4, 2020 when she left the girl with her father in the room. When she came back into the room, she noticed the sleeping girl’s trouser was down and there was a funny smell.

Immediately, she entered the room. The man left the room and didn’t reply her questions. Since June 4, she became conscious of her children and devised a plan with her younger sister who stays in the house with them.

The plan was if she wasn’t around, the children must be in the sister’s room with the door locked from inside. This, they have been doing as they live in a two bedroom apartment. Unfortunately, few days after, the woman was out for few minutes.

The younger sister had left her own room to use the bathroom without telling the children to lock the door from inside the room. When the sister entered, she noticed the 3years old girl wasn’t in the room but came in from the parent’s bedroom where the father was. When the mother came in, the sister told her what happened within the few minutes she was out.

The mother checked the girl and what she saw shocked her (I was moved to tears when I saw the pictures). The 3 years old girl’s vagina was red and wide, and this same funny smell was there. The woman was distraught and started crying. Immediately she called an older aunt who is a matron at an hospital in Calabar.

Her response was shocking, she told the woman to keep mute about it as every family has their own problem. However, she could not. She immediately went ahead to the Civil Defence office here in Ibadan where she reported on June 17.

They arrested the husband but he was released on June 23 despite us telling them not to release him on the ground that the safety of the woman and her children was at risk. The woman had earlier left the house with her two children and her sister to hide in her cousin’s house to the discomfort of the children who are not used to this kind of lifestyle. (6 people in a room).

When we got to the Civil Defence office on Monday right before they released the man. They promised they were going to invite him to their office back on Wednesday but it’s quite unfortunate that they’ve not been responsive on that.

A medical examination has been done on this young girl by a state hospital here in Ibadan. During a not so intensive therapy, the girl who has a slight speech defect said “daddy put his popo here (signaling her vagina). The hospital gave her antibiotics and some other drugs.

Now, to the issue. Since this happened, this woman have been receiving various calls from family members who have been telling her to keep shut and come to the Village. Some even told her it is a norm for a father to sleep with his daughter in Calabar (which is a blatant lie).

The most shocking development this afternoon is that of her own mother. The woman pestered her that she wanted to see her and the children. The mother travelled from Cross River to Ibadan yesterday and insisted on knowing where they were putting up at the moment

Unfortunately, this afternoon the mother herself started a propaganda that she checked her grand daughter and there was opening but it wasn’t a fresh one and insinuated that it most probably be from school. The mother took it upon herself to tell her to desist from getting justice for her daughter as she will be the one to be jailed.

They’ve been pestering this woman to come to the village with her two children and told her cousin to throw her out of her house.(the cousin refused) All this woman wants is justice for her little girl but it seems every force including family are set to break her. She is currently in confusion and trying as much as possible to be strong.

Scratch that, she is strong. When I held her, I saw a woman who is ready to defy “love” and society for justice for her daughter. She said that is what she owe her daughter and any other young girls out there.

But it’s quite unfortunate that her family are more concerned in her returning to her paedophilie rapist husband who she has been married to for 7 years. This man works in a reputable company here and has many people pulling their weight behind him.

The system isn’t helping too.

Please,this is a distress call! @StandtoEndRape

This woman needs justice and every kind of support she can get for her child.

We have filed a report with evidences. And a medical examination has been done.

Update: I just finished speaking with her and her cousin. They said between the space of 30 minutes, so many threatening calls have been made to them. Please, she needs a place to put up for their safety as her mother knows their whereabout

Justin Bieber feud – take legal actions against ladies who accused him of Rape

Canadian singer-songwriter Justin Bieber has taken legal actions against two women who accused him of rape on Twitter.

According to the women, identified as Danielle and Kadi, they were sexually assaulted in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Danielle on the 20th of June had tweeted that the singer molested her on March 9, 2014, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, Texas.

Danielle added that she met Bieber while attending an event in Texas and claimed that she and her friends were invited back to the pop star’s hotel where she was raped.

Kadi, on the other hand, claimed the singer assaulted her at the Langham Hotel in NYC around 2:30 AM on the morning of May 5, 2015.

However, the two women are now faced with a $20million defamation lawsuit, $10 million for each story.

In legal documents obtained by Media, Bieber stated that he has ‘indisputable documentary evidence’ to prove the sexual assault claims are ‘outrageous and fabricated lies.’

The Singer claims the tweets by Danielle and Kadi are ‘malicious’ in that they appear to be a coordinated effort to tarnish his reputation.

Regarding Danielle’s accusation, the court documents stated that Bieber never had a room at the hotel but was instead staying at a nearby rental property with his then-girlfriend Selena Gomez.

On the other hand, Bieber stated that Kadi was a superfan who waited outside hotels for him, desperate to meet him, and desperate for fame.

Bieber claims Kadi has never met him and said she even admitted to such in her own tweets after the date she now claims he sexually assaulted her.

As for the May 5, 2015 allegation, Bieber said Kadi fabricated it because she knew he attended the Met Gala.

Bieber said he did attend the event, but went to a private after-party afterward where he stayed until almost 4 am, then hit up a hot dog stand.

Bieber claims there is photographic evidence and several witnesses to this and he calls the 2:30 AM allegation made by Kadi an “impossibility – a poor, but a damaging, fabrication.”

In the legal document, according to source, Bieber thinks the two social media account may, in fact, be run by the same person.

Conclusion: @iamdbanj was very kind and loyal to his former manager and even paid millions of naira for Frank Amudo’s wife’s fertility treatment when she was trying to have a child. It shocked Oyebanjo to find out why Frank wanted to use the issue of rape to DESTROY HIM

Conclusion: Many top music artists and an Abuja CEO that I interviewed said the Culture of hooking up groupies before and after concerts was Frank Amudo’s job and he always “organized girls” for DBanj and “did it well” One artist said Frank was literally “A pimp”

A popular human rights Activist who I personally know and spoke to AND WILL NOT MENTION the name who @seyitannn_said will “package” her story and fight for her backed out of her case DENYING such promise. The Activist reportedly noticed holes in her story and claim @PoliceNG

Finally @PoliceNG should invite Frank Amudo, DBanj’s former manager to come and tell his side of the story as it pertains to this alleged rape. He is said to be in HIDING. @seyitannn_’s mum attempted to reach out to DBanj to APOLOGISE but she was DENIED ACCESS! Family not happy

I’m done with the SECOND part of my Investigation for now. @iamdbanjsuspended from his @heritagebankplcC.R.E.A.M platform deal and also facing removal as a United Nations Youth ambassador. Up to 25,000 people have signed a “false” accusations petition. More soon.#kemiolunloyo

Rape is a sensitive and horrible issue. Nobody wants anything to do with it. He should clear his name and be welcomed back; that’s if he’s innocent. – @MyRoughDiamond

To what end? What if he didn’t rape her? It’s very bad the when people just create a thread out if a selfish interest. Remember Public investigation does not justify claims. At least you have gotten what you wanted now everybody would rest. – @BillonChidera

Uwaila’s Rape: More story on being pregnant for Pastor emerge

It has been established by the Edo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof Yinka Omorogbe, that Uwaila Omozuwa who was raped and murdered in Benin was nor pregnant.

A report had surfaced which stated that Omozuwa was killed by a man who was hired by the pastor of the church where she was found in a pool of her own blood.

The report added that the suspect confessed that he killed her on the orders of the pastor of the church who didn’t want the public to know that Omozuwa was pregnant for him.

In reaction to the report, Omorogbe described it as false because Omozuwa was a virgin as revealed by an autopsy which also showed that she was never pregnant.

The justice commissioner said, “We were all terribly shocked to see what happened to Uwa. It was terrible; it was a brutal experience.

“We were further shocked by some of the different things we saw all over the place, particularly on social media, and that is why it is important we come here.

“For example, we saw a terrible lie being peddled on social media, not regular press, that Uwa was impregnated by her pastor. That has been refuted, though it caused serious anguish to the family members. It’s a terrible story.

“Though one cannot talk at this point, but from the autopsy done on Uwa, it was clearly established that not only was she not pregnant, she was a virgin, so, how boyfriend and pregnancy came in, only God knows.”

Rape: 799 suspects place under ‘Arrest’

Incidents of rape and other gender-based violence have been around but have escalated during the COVID-19 lockdown.

This is according to the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who gave an update on cases of sexual violence reported in parts of the country.

He made the remarks on Monday while briefing State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, addressing State House correspondents in Abuja on June 15, 2020.

The police boss revealed that between January and May, about 717 rape incidents were reported across the country.

He stated that during the period, the police arrested about 799 suspects in connection with rape cases.

“The Nigeria Police, so far from January 2020 till May 2020, we have recorded about 717 rape incidents that are reported across the country, and about 799 suspects were so far arrested with 631 of them (the cases) conclusively investigated and charged to court and we have so far about 52 cases remaining that are under investigation,” the IGP told reporters.

He added, “The police and other security agencies and other Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) have been collaborating, to see to it that these cases of rape and gender-based violence are dealt with.”

Adamu described rape as a very wicked offence, stressing that it was wicked of anyone to engage in defilement.

According to him, some commit the crime for ritual purposes and others do it because they have the urge to take advantage of their victims.

The police boss, therefore, called on the people to ensure rapists and other perpetrators of sexual violence do not go without being punished for their action.

He said, “I will call on every Nigerian that comes across any victim of sexual offences, rape, or gender-based violence to quickly report to law enforcement agents because keeping it without reporting will give room for the perpetrators to continue to commit the offences.”

The IGP briefed reporters in company with the Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, and the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.
