Pochettino discuss Messi’s way to PSG.

Players can talk and can say what they want. They do so from feelings, just as Real Madrid and Barcelona players do. ..

Mauricio Pochettino has insisted PSG have shown no lack of respect by talking about their desire to sign Lionel Messi from Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer.

Messi handed in a transfer request in the summer of 2020 following Barcelona’s chaotic season on and off the pitch. His lofty release clause meant he was unable to force an exit, but the Argentinian’s contract expires in June 2021, enabling him to leave the club for nothing.

PSG are considered one of the few clubs in world football who possess the financial muscle to land the six-time Ballon d’Or winner, and both players and members of the club’s hierarchy have discussed the possibility of signing Messi in recent weeks. This has been criticised by Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman and presidential candidate Joan Laporta.

Pochettino himself has always remained diplomatic regarding the rumours, and insists no harm was meant by his colleague’s comments.

“When a player speaks, he is talking out of affection, excitement and friendship,” the PSG boss said. “There’s no controversial issue that has been generated by the club. At no time has there been a lack of respect or gone against a situation that is not the correct one.

“Players can talk and can say what they want. They do so from feelings, just as Real Madrid and Barcelona players do. They can talk about teammates that are at other clubs.”

PSG sporting director Leonardo began stoking the flames in January when he stated that players like Messi ‘will always be on PSG’s list’. Laporta – who has had the future of Messi front and centre of his presidential campaign – hit back with a dig at PSG’s financial fair play record.

Messi’s international teammate Angel Di Maria admitted that he ‘hopes’ the diminutive forward signs for PSG – comments that Koeman criticised for having a ‘lack of respect’.

Idrissa Gueye shocking Newcastle loan deal rejection.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also being name-dropped as a potential target for the Magpies.

Newcastle have failed in their pursuit to sign Idrissa Gueye on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, despite holding initial talks.

Gueye has fallen out of favour in Paris in recent months and is free to leave the club as a result.

Newcastle are in search of a midfielder, but are yet to use the January transfer window to strengthen their squad and are running out of time.

L’Equipe initially reported that Newcastle had made contact over a loan move for the 31-year-old, but the Daily Mail have since confirmed that Gueye has turned down the chance to return to the Premier League with Steve Bruce’s side.

The midfielder was signed by then-PSG manager Thomas Tuchel for a reported £29m fee in summer 2019 and has made 16 appearances this season but has featured in limited capacity, having completed just one full game since October.

Gueye is now struggling to find a regular place in the side under the new management of Mauricio Pochettino, with a change of system taking him out of the side.

Pochettino has been in pursuit of Dele Alli since taking the PSG job, with the England midfielder out of favour at Tottenham.

PSG’s pursuit of Alli has since broken down, however, and is now expected to remain in north London beyond the deadline, which could affect any move for Gueye.

Newcastle have also been linked with a loan move for Leicester’s Hamza Choudhury, but any deal could be dependant on whether the Foxes get an attacking midfielder in before the deadline themselves.

The versatile midfielder is expected to leave on loan before the transfer window slams shut and Newcastle have been in contact over a loan move, as have Leicester and Southampton.

PSG suffers first defeat under Pochettino’s guidance.

PSG went in search of a winner, but the closest they came saw full-back Layvin Kurzawa’s drive fly narrowly wide.

Paris Saint-Germain suffered their first defeat under Mauricio Pochettino as lowly Lorient fought back to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory on Sunday and prevent the defending champions from retaking top spot in Ligue 1.

Neymar scored two penalties but the visitors collapsed late on at the Stade du Moustoir, as Nigerian Terem Moffi netted an injury-time winner.

The loss saw PSG stay one point behind league leaders Lyon, although third-placed Lille could go two points clear when they host Dijon later on Sunday.

“We have to keep the positive aspects and move forward,” said former Tottenham manager Pochettino.

“Accidents happen in football. We have to keep working. It makes us realise that it can happen if we don’t play at 100 percent.”

It was the first defeat in six games as PSG coach for Pochettino since he took over from the sacked Thomas Tuchel.

The win takes struggling Lorient into the relegation play-off spot.

“(Moffi’s goal) was magical. Against PSG, it’s even crazier,” said Lorient’s Laurent Abergel, who scored the opening goal.

“For a Marseille fan like me, the first dream is perhaps to play for OM and the second to beat PSG.”

Lorient started brightly and had the first real shot in anger in the 30th minute, as Adrian Grbic’s long-range strike had to be pushed away by PSG goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

The hosts did take the lead six minutes later, though, as PSG failed several times to clear and Abergel picked out the top corner with the outside of his left boot.

Neymar levelled on the stroke of half-time from the penalty spot with his fifth league goal of the season.

PSG improved after the break and took the lead in the 57th minute as Houboulang Mendes, who also conceded the first penalty, brought down Mauro Icardi and Neymar again made no mistake.

It was the first time since Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2015 that a PSG player had netted two spot-kicks in a Ligue 1 match.

The visitors pressed for a third, but Lorient goalkeeper Matthieu Dreyer made an excellent stop to keep out an Icardi header.

That proved to be crucial, as the stubborn home side equalised in the 80th minute.

Substitute Yoane Wissa scored an excellent individual goal, his sixth of his first full campaign as a top-flight player.

They over-committed in the second minute of added time, leaving no defenders within 60 yards of their own goal as Moffi was sent racing clean through.

The 21-year-old, on as a sub, slotted the ball into the bottom corner to spark wild celebrations for the home team.

PSG manager, Pochettino test positive for COVID-19.

Pochettino is the latest person at the Parc des Princes to test positive for the virus, following defenders Colin Dagba and Thilo Kehrer, and midfielder Rafinha.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino has tested positive for COVID-19 and has now been forced into a period of self-isolation.

It’s been a rollercoaster of a start to life in Paris for Pochettino, who joined on January 2 and needed just 11 days to lift his first trophy, steering PSG to a 2-1 win over Marseille to lift the Trophee des Champions.

For PSG, the hope was that they could carry that momentum over to Ligue 1 to reclaim their usual spot at the top of the table, but they will have to do so without Pochettino as the Argentine must now isolate.

“Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino has tested positive for COVID-19,” a statement on the club’s official website read. “He will therefore respect isolation and is subject to the appropriate health protocol.

“His assistants Jesus Perez and Miguel D’Agostino will take over from tomorrow in Angers.”

PSG currently sit second in Ligue 1, just one point behind leaders Lyon, so Saturday’s meeting with Angers is a great chance for the defending champions to keep up the pressure.

The two sides met back in October, when PSG roared to an emphatic 6-1 victory, but Angers have bounced back since then and currently find themselves in seventh, picking up recent wins over high-flyers Lille and Marseille.

“We’ll have to be ready on Saturday, because it’s a very difficult game against Angers that’s ahead of us,” Pochettino said of the game before his test results came in. “We want to win again, and to do that, we have to be ready.

“We want to be top of the Ligue 1 table and to get there, we’ll have to win. The most important thing is to be consistent in our performances. We’re very happy with the way the players are picking up our concepts. I want to thank them, the staff that we already had here, and the fans who encouraged us before the match.”

Paulo Dybala could join Pochettino at new Club

The operation would cost around 60 million euros. This is not the only market target the coach has reportedly proposed.

Tuttosport says that one of Mauricio Pochettino’s requests in view of his imminent arrival at PSG is to sign Paulo Dybala from Juventus.

PSG is about to begin a new phase with Mauricio Pochettino at the helm and ‘Tuttosport’ revealed one of their requests, probably the most demanding: Paulo Dybala.

His incorporation could be closed for about 60 million euros to tidy up the coach’s sports planning.

This situation is remarkable, as the Parisian team already has in its ranks one of the most promising young strikers on the planet, Kylian Mbappé.

Perhaps the arrival of the current Juventus striker will open the door for the Frenchman, who has no shortage of suitors.

In economic terms, the offer referred to by the source mentioned in the first paragraph is higher than the player’s current market value. As estimated by the parameters of ‘ProFootballDB’, it is 41 million euros. He is committed to Juve until 2022, so his club has the upper hand.

And are there any other requests from Pochettino to the board? Yes, it has already been leaked that Dele Alli and Eriksen may be some of the coach’s ideas to rekindle the flame of a project that has already agreed to the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel. The new PSG could have an Argentinean accent.

Barca already identify Pochettino as Setien’s replacement

Mauricio Pochettino is now the main candidate to replace Quique Setien at Barcelona, according to reports.

Setien could only watch on as his Barca side suffered a humiliating 8-2 defeat by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final and the club look ready to sack him.

And according to Catalan Radio station RAC1, former Tottenham manager Pochettino is top of the list to takeover after having dinner with club president Josep Bartomeu earlier this week.

Barcelona transfer plans are in Pochettino’s hands

With Barcelona linked with players such as Lautaro Martinez and Neymar, there is a need for the Catalan club to move players on in order to raise funds.

Phillipe Coutinho is the main man in this sense, as his sale could bring in a significant fee as Barcelona aren’t willing to let him go for less than 80 million euros.

With this in mind, this means that Mauricio Pochettino could have a huge say in the Blaugrana’s fortunes this summer.

The Argentine coach is the main candidate to lead the new project at Newcastle and it’s believed that he’d like to build the team around Coutinho, who he previously had when he was at Espanyol.

If Coutinho’s return to England comes to fruition then this would provide Barcelona with the cash injection they need to be able to go after their summer targets.

It could be a win-win-win situation as Coutinho would be happy to return to the league where he has enjoyed his greatest successes, Pochettino would get a player he knows and loves and Barcelona would enjoy a major pay day.

Mauricio Pochettino Insists He’s ‘Ready & Waiting’ to Return to Management in the Premier League

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino insists he’s ‘ready and waiting’ to return to the Premier League, just three months after his departure from north London.

The 47-year-old is still one of the most highly sought after managers in world football thanks to his five-year spell at Tottenham, helping the club to reach last season’s Champions League final before eventually losing to Liverpool.

Pochettino state his wishes before he can replace Solskjaer as United’s manager

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager, Mauricio Pochettino is willing to replace Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the end of the season if the Red Devils’ hierarchy give him full control over transfers at Old Trafford, according to Metro UK.

Pochettino has been long admired by Man United’s board and was thought to be their first choice after sacking Jose Mourinho in December 2018.

Talks have already begun with the Argentine as he wants control over singing of players at the club.

Pochettino has been without a job since he was sacked by Tottenham last November.

He recently refused to rule out the possibility of returning to management in either Spain or England.

Man United have started the season poorly and Solskjaer is under pressure to turn things around quickly.

Last weekend, United were defeated 2-0 by Liverpool and now sit in 5th place on the Premier League table.

Solskjaer’s side will now face Burnley at home in their Premier League fixture on Wednesday night.
