Juventus Aims Pep Guardiola As Sarri’s Replacement This Summer

Juventus are said to be willing to give ‘whatever it takes’ to bring in Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola next summer, with president Andrea Agnelli ‘convinced’ he is the man to help the Serie A side win the Champions League.

Following the Italian giants’ 2-1 defeat to Hellas Verona last time out, Maurizio Sarri’s men now sit level on points with Inter at the top of the table. Saturday’s defeat was their third in the league this season, having also failed to pick up points against Lazio and Napoli.

Lionel Messi will finish his career at Barcelona – Guardiola

Pep Guardiola says he wants Lionel Messi to finish his career at Barcelona rather than join him at Manchester City.

Messi has a release clause in his contract this summer and reports in Spain and England have suggested he could trigger it after a rift with Barcelona’s sporting director Eric Abidal, who has accused the players of getting former manager Ernesto Valverde the sack.

Guardiola was Barcelona manager from 2008 to 2012 and works alongside former Barca directors Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain at City, so it is little surprise the Premier League champions have been tipped as favourites to sign Messi if he decides to leave the Camp Nou.

City have been linked with the Argentine striker every season since Guardiola arrived in England in 2016, but after spending his entire career with the Catalan club, the City manager repeated his oft-stated opinion that he thinks – and hopes – Messi will stay there until his retirement.

“He will stay there, that’s my wish,” Guardiola told reporters on Friday.

“I’m not going to talk about players for other clubs. I think he will finish his career there, that’s my wish.”

Meanwhile, Guardiola says Raheem Sterling could be out for “weeks” after the City winger injured his left hamstring in the defeat at Tottenham last Sunday.

Sterling will miss the Premier League game against West Ham this weekend and is in a race against time to be fit for when City resume their season after a two-week winter break.

They face Leicester on February 22 before the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against Real Madrid four days later.

“It’s a hamstring and we will see. It takes weeks but we’ll see if he is fit to play against Leicester, Madrid and the rest of the games,” Guardiola said.

“I don’t know. It’s a problem, but it’s a problem we had with (Ilkay) Gundogan a couple of seasons ago and (Aymeric) Laporte this season when he was out for four or five months.

“It’s what it is. It’s a problem with this kind of (busy) season, particularly for the players.”

Long-term casualty Leroy Sane, who has been out of action since rupturing knee ligaments in the Community Shield game against Liverpool is training again and could return after the winter break.

“He’s started to train, he is still not there, he needs to recover the tempo, rhythm, confidence,” Guardiola said.

“It is not like an ankle or muscular injury. It still needs time. He needs more weeks of training.

“What’s important is he’s recovered well. He’ll come back stronger than before but now he needs time.”

Apart from Sterling, left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko will miss the West Ham game on Sunday through suspension after his red card against Tottenham.

France international Benjamin Mendy is in line for a recall to replace Zinchenko.

Mendy has not played since the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on January 18.

Liverpool better than Manchester City – Pep..

…23 games, 22 victories, 1 draw

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola conceded the Premier League title to Liverpool and believes no team in the world would be able to stay with the European champions this season.
Liverpool is well on course for a first league title in 30 years as they lead City by 16 points with a game in hand after winning 22 and drawing one of their 23 games.

City has won back-to-back titles with a combined 198 points, denying Liverpool last season despite Jurgen Klopp’s men posting 97 points – the third-highest tally in top-flight English football history.

“Liverpool obviously will be champions of the Premier League, but they would be champions in Spain, champions in Italy, champions in Germany,” said Guardiola.

“They would be champions everywhere after 23 games, 22 victories, 1 draw.”

City have lost five league games this season, but Guardiola defended their record by pointing out it would still be good enough to mount a title challenge in Europe’s other top leagues.

“In the recent past when Chelsea won the league, the next season, they didn’t qualify for the Champions League, Leicester the same and Chelsea again the same. When we won the league we repeated the league,” added Guardiola.

“In Spain, with the points we have we would be there, one or two points behind the leader, in Germany we would be there, one or two points behind the leader, in Italy as well.

“But Liverpool are just fantastic, phenomenal, overwhelming. So we have to accept it and learn from that.”

Guardiola won three league titles in a row at Barcelona and Bayern Munich but believes the mental strength to bounce back of his current squad is just as good as any he has coached before.

And City could still end the season with three trophies as they look to defend the FA Cup and League Cup and take on Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League next month.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola

“Honestly, it is one of the best I have ever handled or faced in my career for how they react in the bad moments,” he said.

“The numbers, the results, not just in this season, I think are good. Even in the previous seasons, I think it was phenomenal. That is why I am so proud.”

PSG set to offer Guardiola transfer deal from city

Paris-Saint Germain are set to offer Pep Guardiola a mega deal to leave Manchester City this summer, NobleSport reports.

The Spaniard is believed to be the preferred candidate for the French champions, if they sack Thomas Tuchel.

Guardiola is contracted to City until the end of next season, but there has been increasing speculation this could be his last campaign with the Premier League champions.

After winning an unprecedented domestic treble last term, his side now trail leaders Liverpool by 13 points following Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

And the Reds have played two games less ahead of their home clash with Manchester United on Sunday.

Guardiola has insisted he is “100%” staying at the Etihad, but PSG’s mega-rich owners are ready to make a huge offer to lure him away.

Pep Guardiola speaks after Manchester city throws 3-1 defeat at Manchester United

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has reacted to his side’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg 3-1 victory over Manchester United on Tuesday night at Old Trafford.

He also hailed Man United forward, Mason Greenwood for his brilliant display against Man City. NobleSport learnt

Three goals from Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Andreas Pereira (OG) ensured Man City defeated the Red Devils as Marcus Rashford’s second-half strike was not enough to salvage a point for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

“In the first minutes, it was tight, they had one or two counter-attacks and the second shot. It was an outstanding goal from Bernardo and since then we played really good with a lot of passes arriving from behind,” Guardiola said as quoted by Sky Sports after the game.

“In the second half, they changed the shape from a diamond to a 4-4-2 and we struggled a little bit, but it’s a good result.

“No [I wasn’t frustrated in the second half] because they played good and we could not control quite well, especially Mason Greenwood between the lines, we struggled a little bit with that, but, in general, it was an incredible performance. We are playing at Old Trafford against our rival in a semi-final and it was a fantastic result for us.

“It’s not over though, it’s Man Utd and we see how they can come back… but hopefully with our fans, we can make a good game and reach the final again.”

Man City will now play Man United on January 29 in the return leg at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola eyeing PSV starlet.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is targeting a move for PSV youngster Mohamed Ihattaren, who has caught the eye of Europe’s elite during his breakthrough season in the Netherlands.

Ihattaren has shone in the Eredivisie this year, scoring three goals and bagging six assists in his 15 league matches.

Mohamed Ihattaren
According to ESPN (as cited by Football Oranje), the wonderkid’s brilliant form has captured the attention of Premier League giants Man City, who are keen to add some youth to their ageing squad.

Ihattaren is a creative midfielder who can play anywhere across the forward line, and his quick feet and dazzling skills have helped him stand out as one of the hottest prospects in European football.

The Dutchman’s impressive start to the season has lifted PSV into third place in the Dutch league, and he has also scored three goals in this year’s Europa League campaign, making Man City’s Spanish boss stand up and take note.

Guardiola is reportedly keen to rebuild his City squad for the 2020/21 season, and with the likes of midfielder David Silva leaving the Etihad stadium at the end of the campaign, it gives the Premier League champions the opportunity to blood some youth into their side.

The Cityzens have struggled to recapture the heights of their previous two seasons under the ex-Barcelona coach, slipping to 14 points behind runaway league leaders Liverpool at the midway point of the campaign.

The league champions pipped the Reds to top spot by one point last year, but they have been unable to continue their relentless winning form, and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool look destined to lift the elusive Premier League trophy.

With a third consecutive league title seemingly out of reach, Guardiola may have one eye on building a competitive squad for the upcoming season, starting with the signing of Ihattaren

Pep Guardiola ban players from Christmas.

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has cancelled Christmas for his first-team stars, as they have all been banned from attending the club’s festive party.

According to Goal, Guardiola is keen to avoid another festive slump, like the one which threatened to derail their treble hopes last year. After last year’s celebrations, Manchester City were surprisingly beaten 3-2 at home to Crystal Palace and then lost to Leicester four days later.

They eventually recovered to successfully defend their Premier League title. And with City currently 14 points behind league leaders Liverpool, Guardiola has taken action to avoid a similar slump by banning players from this year’s bash.

Injured S. Aguero To Rest For A Week After Match Against Chelsea..

Manchester City are expected to be without striker Sergio Aguero for “a few weeks”, according to boss Pep Guardiola.

The Argentine sustained the injury during Saturday’s 2-1 win against Chelsea, with Guardiola unclear as to the exact nature of the problem.

In his press conference to preview Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk, Guardiola said: “Sergio will be out for a few games, a few weeks. I don’t know exactly.

“(The injury) is at the front.”

Gabriel Jesus can expect to feature more prominently in Aguero’s absence, and he said: “I am not happy Sergio is injured.

“I don’t like it when my friends are injured, but every day I work hard and I am ready.”

Manchester City will be through to the knockout phase of the Champions League if they avoid defeat against Shakhtar or if Dinamo Zagreb do not beat Atalanta.

City will be confirmed in top spot if they win, or if they draw and Dinamo do not win.

Guardiola said: “The position we have is good but we have not qualified yet. Tomorrow is a chance.”
