Solskjaer reveal United’s decision on Pogba’s future at Old Trafford.

Juventus are rumoured to want to get rid of Cristiano Ronaldo because his contract is too much of a financial strain as it is..

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that the club has an ‘open dialogue’ with star midfielder Paul Pogba about his contract situation and future at Old Trafford.

Agent Mino Raiola openly claimed in December that Pogba had become unhappy at United and wanted to leave.

He also effectively threatened the club by pointing out that his client can leave as a free agent when his current contract expires in 2022 if they refuse to sell.

Raiola was widely criticised for the timing and bluntness of his message in the same week as a crunch Champions League game against RB Leipzig that United went on to lose.

Pogba was not directly involved but was at least thought to be complicit because he never took any action to deny what his agent had said if it was untrue.

However, things appear to have changed since then. Pogba was in and out of the United lineup at that time and has now re-taken a regular starting place in a team that has improved enough to have forced its way into the Premier League title race for the first time since 2013.

The Frenchman appears happier on the pitch and it is reflected in more consistent performances.

Previously, he cut a frustrated figure head and shoulders above teammates below his level.

Now, others are much closer to him and complementing his game and vice versa.

It is still not certain either way will happen at the end of the season – whether he signs a contract or pursues a transfer away, but Solskjaer’s comments suggest there is a healthy relationship between the player and club and the situation will continue to be monitored.

“We’ve got a good open dialogue with Paul, so what we talk about and how we see that situation remains between us of course,” the United is quoted as saying by NoRM‘s known Media.

“I’m just happy he’s focused, he’s playing really well and he’s happy in himself and that’s important. You can see Paul now enjoying playing football with a red shirt on.”

If United cannot convince Pogba to sign a new contract, a sale this coming is a must to recoup a transfer fee before he is able to leave as a free agent in 2022.

Equally, the player, soon to turn 28, will be aware that inking a fresh deal will see him commit the remainder of his best years to the club.

It could end up that staying put and signing a new contract is Pogba’s only realistic option.

The coronavirus pandemic has wiped out any possible market for him, with the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona all interested but strapped for cash. Were he to run down his contract and try his luck in free agency, he may find that any offers can’t match his expectation.

Real are prioritising a move for Kylian Mbappe this year but are expected to have to sell a number of players and potentially finance some of the transfer with a loan to afford it.

Juventus are rumoured to want to get rid of Cristiano Ronaldo because his contract is too much of a financial strain as it is, while Barcelona are in full-on financial crisis with debts estimated to have spiralled to €1bn.

Paul Pogba ready to decide his Manchester United future.

Advertisements

Pogba recently insisted that he will continue to be happy at Old Trafford as long as his side keep on winning, admitting that he struggles to cope when United come out on the losing side – just as they did on Wednesday.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has revealed that he will sit down with the club at the end of the season to discuss his contract situation.

The Frenchman has entered the final 18 months of his current deal and was widely expected to be sold in the coming summer after agent Mino Raiola publicly claimed Pogba wanted to leave Old Trafford because he was ‘unhappy’.

However, those comments came before Pogba rediscovered his best form and led United towards the top of the Premier League table. All of a sudden, an exit no longer seems as certain as it was just one month ago, and Pogba confessed that he is ready to talk to the club about his future.

“I am on contract, I am here, I am enjoying myself,” Pogba told BT Sport in the build-up to United’s 2-1 loss to Sheffield United. “Everybody knows that I have one year left, I’m going to speak with the club and see what’s going on.

“For now, my objective, my goal is to win something. That’s all I’m thinking about is to win.”

His future is a tricky one to get your head around. In terms of potential landing spots, it’s Real Madrid and Juventus who are usually named a suitors, although neither side has anywhere close to the money needed to land the midfielder.

Should United sell in the summer, they know they would likely make a loss on the £89m they spent to bring him back to Old Trafford in 2016, but he’d still be one of the most expensive transfers of the summer.

However, whether United actually want to sell is a different matter. Now that he has shaken off the injuries which have plagued him for the last year, Pogba looks like the game-changing midfielder he was supposed to be, and it’s no coincidence that United’s upturn his form has come at the same time as Pogba’s resurgence.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made no secret of his desire to keep Pogba around, but he may have to keep his side in a title battle if he is to convince the World Cup winner to stay.

Paul Pogba isn’t your prisoner – Raiola tells Solskjaer

Mino Raiola hit out at Solskjaer after the Norwegian said Monday that “Paul is our player, not Mino’s.”

“Paul is not mine and for sure not Solskjaer’s property, Paul is Paul Pogba’s (property),” Raiola said, responding to Solskjaer.

“You cannot own a human being already for a long time in the UK or anywhere else. I hope Solskjaer do(es) not want to suggest that Paul is his prisoner.

“Before Solskjaer makes comments about things I say he should inform himself better about the content of what has been said.”

Paul Pogba joined Manchester United in 2016 for a reported fee of $116 million.
Pogba has been sidelined with an ankle injury having played just seven Premier League games this season.

The midfielder’s absence has coincided with Manchester United’ struggles — the giant is seventh in the Premier League with exactly half the points of leader Liverpool’s 76.

Raiola added: “I am a free citizen who can think and express my thoughts. Until now I was maybe nice to him. Solskjaer should just remember things that he said in the summer to Paul.

“I think Solskjaer may be frustrated for different reasons and is now mixing up some issues. I think that Solskjaer has other things to worry about. At least if I was him I would.”

Mino Raiola is one of the most powerful agents in football.
Solskjaer was asked about Raiola’s comments following United’s 2-0 win over Chelsea Monday, which came courtesy of goals from Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire.

“I don’t have to comment through the media on Mino, I can probably speak to him myself,” the former United star told Sky Sports.

“It’s not my area, Paul and Mino have their conversations and that’s fine.”

Pogba signed a five-year deal for United in2016 for a reported fee of €105 million ($116 million). He has made 150 appearances and scored 31 goals for the club.
United next plays Club Brugge in a Europa League round-of-32 clash Thursday.
