[Nigeria] Pandemonium as 8-Storey Collapse in Imo. [Photos]

An eight-storey building has collapsed in Imo State, leaving several persons trapped.

Located along the Yar’ Adua Drive in Owerri, the state capital, the building was said to have been under construction at the time of the incident on Thursday.

Rescue operations are currently ongoing and so far, NobleReporters gathered that about 25 persons were trapped.

Fifteen persons have, however, been rescued from the rubble while one person has unfortunately been reported dead.

Pandemonium as explosion breaks around Festac, Lagos.


A pipeline explosion has occurred at the Abule-Ado area around Festac town in Amuwo Odofin local govt area of Lagos state.

The massive blast has reportedly rocked neighbouring areas, sparking a massive blaze that has destroyed nearby buildings including a school.


Plumes of smoke have been seen rising into the sky, but our correspondent on the scene says the area has been cordoned off.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that a tipper offloading sand caught fire, which spread to a nearby pipeline, triggering the blast.

The director-general of LASEMA Dr Femi Osanyintolu confirmed that the pipeline had earlier been vandalized by unknown persons.

Many nearby houses have been destroyed by the blaze while the explosion damaged buildings around the area and its environs.


The Lagos State Fire Service says there are buildings on fire in Ado Soba, Abule-Ado, and Amuwo-Odo.

The chairman of the local government area, mister Valentine Buraimoh told Channels Television on the phone that some children have been rescued from the collapsed school building.

Pandemonium as fuel tanker explodes in imo, one casualty


A tanker carrying petrol has exploded along Owerri-Aba express road, killing one person and leaving many others critically injured.

The tragic incident which happened on Thursday at about 11:15 was not too far from the Imo/Anambra River basin authority. N.Rs learnt


It was gathered that the incident happened after the tanker laden with fuel collided with the road demarcation which sparked off the fire on the tanker.

An eyewitness who spoke on account of anonymity said that one person lost his life and two others were badly wounded.


At the time of filing this report, the men of the fire service station had mobilized their men to extinguish the fire.

Speaking, the Director of Fire Service in Imo state, Japhate Okereafor, said among other things that “When I was informed of the incident I informed all my men and they turned out immediately and we started dispatching to the scene of a fire incident.


“I even called the airport fire service, I called the control room and they gave me a sharp and fast response.”

When asked if there was any casualty, he said: “It is one that died the other two escaped. I suspect the one that died should be the driver.”

Pandemonium in MOUAU male hostel

…no casualties recorded


Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU) male hostel was reportedly razed down by fire in the late hours of yesterday January 15.

Eyewitnesses alleged that no casualty was recorded in the fire incident at the institution’s male hostel popularly known as Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) hostel.


It was however gathered that properties owned by some of the students were allegedly destroyed by the fire as there was reportedly not enough water to put out the inferno.

Pandemonium as mother and 3 children dies in Kaduna fire outbreak


A mother and her three children perished in a fire outbreak in their home in Rigasa local government area of Kaduna state on New Years day January 1st.

According to reports, the deceased were all sleeping in their home when the fire started at about 2am. Efforts to rescue them proved abortive as they all died before help could come to them. Their remains have since been buried according to Islamic rites.
