Oluwo gets 6 month suspension after assaulting Agbowu

The Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers on Friday suspended the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi for allegedly beating up a fellow oba.

He was suspended for six months.

A committee headed by Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Adedotun, was also constituted by the council to further investigate the matter involving Oluwo and Obas in Iwo land.

The royal fathers at their emergency meeting held at Osun State Government Secretariat, Abere,Osun State agreed to suspend the monarch for six months.

The meeting was presided over by Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

Pandemonium had broken out recently at the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 11, Osogbo, Osun State, when Ob Akanbi allegedly beat up another monarch, Agbowu of Ogbagbaa, Oba Dhirulahi Akinropo.

The incident occurred during peace meeting to resolve a land tussle among royal fathers within the Iwo axis, where the AIG Bashir Makama had summoned the royal fathers.

It was gathered that during the meeting where other monarchs, top police, and government officers were present, that Oba Akanbi allegedly rose up from his seat and descended on Oba Dhirulahi Akinropo, Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa town, inflicting injury on him.

But Oba Akanbi denied the allegation that he assaulted Oba Akinropo, during a peace meeting in the state.

He said the allegation was a desperate gang up against him.

The monarch, who denied the trending report of physically assaulting Oba Akinropo, said what happened was a ‘mere altercation and not physical combat.’

Oba Akanbi said what transpired between him and the Ogbaagba monarch was a fallout of a courageous move on his part to put a stop to economic oppression against the downtrodden by kings in his domain.

“I did not punch Agbowu of Ogbaagba, although there was altercation that almost resulted to exchange of blows, but that didn’t happen at all.

“I brought him and other Obas to the police to talk to them on the need to stop selling land that did not belong to them. I am fighting corruption in a traditional way. They are selling a hectares of land at the rate of N60,000, which I’m kicking against.

“I did not touch Agbowu of Ogbaagba, although he was aggressive and we almost had altercation but I did not punch him,” the Iwo monarch said.

Update: Agbowu, Oluwo’s clash not fortune – Osun allege

The Osun State Government has described as unfortunate and avoidable the face-off between the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, and the Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa town, Oba Sikirulahi Akinropo, during a peace meeting at the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of zone 11, Bashir Makama last Friday.

This was contained in a statement signed on Monday by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs. Funke Egbemode.

Egbemode said the State Traditional Council was looking into the matter, adding that traditional rulers ought to protect and preserve the sacredness of traditional institutions.

She said, “Situations, where royal fathers engage in a public display of temperament, do not edify the revered stools of our forebears.

“We believe in the dignity of traditional stools and sacredness of royalty. We will continue to preach peace among all our citizens and harmonious relationship among our traditional rulers.

“Government is aware that the State Council of Traditional Rulers has stepped into the matter and we are confident that the council will take appropriate steps to preserve peaceful coexistence among the Obas in the state. We do not want any crisis in any part of the State.”

Oluwo: Amotekun must fight ritual killings as well ..

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, has charged the southwest governors to ensure that the Southwest Security Network, otherwise known as Amotekun, is also made to fight ritual killings and “traditional corruptions.”

Describing traditional corruption, especially ritual killings, as rampant in the Southwest, Oba Akanbi expressed concern about the daily reported cases of killing of humans for rituals.

The first class traditional ruler advised that fighting ritual killings should be in the scope of operations of the security outfit.

In a statement by his press secretary, Ali Ibrahim, the paramount ruler said ritual killing is deadlier and more recurrent than herdsmen’s heinous activities. The Oluwo, who drew the attention of the Yoruba stakeholders to the menace of ritual killings, insisted that the politicians should be held responsible for trading their game with kidnapping.

He expressed disappointment that no one is talking about how to curtail ritual killings in the ongoing support for Amotekun.

“I am not condemning Amotekun but I am talking about better direction of job specification and scope of roles for the regional security outfit. Amotekun’s oversight functions should be streamlined to solve fundamental challenges facing us. It is disheartening that we misplace our priority.”

Oluwo added: “Just imagine, an innocent university final year student was killed in Ikoyi-Ile few weeks ago, out of ignorance that a spirit will bring money. It is poverty of the mind that could make someone be so gullible. Now, the child is gone. What a wicked act. What we are doing as a people to curtail such acts must be important to us. So, we need an institution that will allay fears against such an act.

“Additionally, to fight traditional corruption, we need agents of unquestionable characters and not accomplice of ritual killers. We need a transparent institution that will lead us out of daily killing of our children for money, promotion, popularity and so on.”

The Oluwo implored Nigerians, especially herbalists, pastors and alfas, to imbibe new approaches to offering sacrifices such as beautifying public places and economic empowerment programmes for the vulnerable in the society, among others, noting that “these are rewarding, promotional and more naturally acceptable than killing fellow humans for ritual.”

Oluwo of iwo and estranged wife exchanged insults on social media.

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi and his estranged wife Chanel Chin took shots at each other on Instagram, days after their divorce made headlines.

In an Instagram addressed to Oba Akanbi, Chanel disclosed that she is yet to speak out on what she faced in her marriage in the last 4 years out of respect for the stool. She also accused the Oluwo of Iwo of taking up a personal mission to destroy her character with fabricated stories. According to Chanel, this is not the first time her estranged husband will be fabricating stories to publicly destroy someone.

She wrote;

Maturity speaks. Since The Oluwo of Iwo has gone to the media to air his dirty laundry I have remained silent. He has gone on a personal mission to detsroy my character with fabricated stories, I have remain silent. As a mother of a small baby. All of this is unnecessary and very immature. Out of respect for the stool, I have not spoken of what I went thru in the last 4 years. Pls let MATURITY Rule. If a king does not RESPECT himself or his stool….Who else will? People of God. Let us be honest with ourselves, this is not the 1st or the last time we have watched this individual fabricate and publicly destroy someone…Kings are supposed to uplift and not oppress.

She also shared another Instagram post in which she declared herself the “Queen Mother of Crowned Prince Oduduwa of IwoLand”.

Chanel wrote;

Prince Oduduwa is wishing Everyone a Safe and joyous Christmas holiday. Let’s not forget the Reason for the Season. God is on the Throne. Love and Light to you all

Oluwo of Iwo and estranged wife, Chanel lampoon slam each other on social media

The Oluwo of Iwo in his Instagram post, debunked claims of holding Queen Chanel against her will in Nigeria. A statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem reads;

To who cares to listen… ticket has been provided since 18th of December, 2019, 5 star hotel fully paid till date of travel !!! And ask yourself a question….can a Canadian be stranded in Nigeria even if a ticket is not provided ?? the Canadian Embassy and Government is one of the most responsible Government and Embassy in the world.

If someone chooses to stay back for whatsoever reason, its none of our business. The needful has been done by providing the necessary travelling arrangements.
