‘No Man is God’ – Obaseki preaches after Oshiomhole’s Suspension.

Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has declared today a great day for the people of the state and the party after an Abuja High Court sacked the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole.

He said this at the party’s rally held at Urokpota ground, Benin.

He said the suspension of the embattled national chairman would provide the needed atmosphere for peace in the party in the state.

He said the suspension meted on the national chairman had finally proved to all in the state that no man is God, adding that today was a great day for the party in the state.

“Today is a great day for us in the party. The Abuja High Court has just asked the national chairman of the party to step aside.

“I believed this will further create the atmosphere for peace in the state.

“This has further shown to us that no man is God,” he said.

Obaseki said the party is one, noting that the problem he was having with the national chairman was that he failed to heed to him when he asked him to denounce the EPM which he refused.

He said he was not afraid to see people coming out to say that they want to contest for the governorship position but they have to do it according to the rules of the game.

He said he was prepared to embrace anything that would bring peace into the party and the state.

He noted that what the state had attained in infrastructure and agriculture was just a little compared to what the state was yet to experience.

On his part, the factional party chairman, Mr. Aselm Ojezua, called on the lawmakers who have abandoned their legislative duty and decided to make Abuja their home to have a rethink and come back home to resume their duty to those who elected them into office.

He said they should be able to learn from what has happened to the national chairman of the party and come back home.

“If a child deeps his hands into faeces, we will not cut off the child’s hands because of that.

“We want our brothers who have gone to stay in Abuja and have abandoned their duty – we want them to come back home and when they come, we will receive them,” Ojezua pleaded on their behalf.

The governor, flanked by other party faithful in the state later marched through the Airport Road in jubilation to the party secretariat.

Look closely, the certificate of candidates before voting in Edo, Ondo – INEC tell Voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said that it will display the personal particulars, including academic qualifications of all the candidates nominated by political parties for the Edo and Ondo governorship elections.

It disclosed that this will afford the citizens the opportunity to scrutinise the particulars of the candidates and take legal actions against those who present false information to the Commission.

INEC insisted that this will help to check the new trend of courts determining the outcome of elections as observed in recent times.

The Supreme Court sacked Bayelsa Governor-elect on the account that his running mate Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo submitted fake certificates to INEC.

INEC National Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, who gave the hint during the quarterly meeting between the Commission and Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) said: “The personal particulars of all the candidates nominated by political parties for the Edo and Ondo Governorship elections, including their academic qualifications, will be displayed in our offices in the two States as required by law.

“This will enable citizens to scrutinise them and take legal action against any candidate who provides false information to the Commission. The personal particulars of candidates will be displayed on 6th July 2020 in Edo State and on 4th August 2020 in Ondo State. I wish to appeal to citizens to note the dates and to seize the opportunity to scrutinise the information provided on oath by the candidates in the interest of our democracy and good governance.

“For our part, the Commission has been studying the judgements of courts arising from the conduct of recent elections. We have also been reviewing the reports from accredited observers as well as internal reports from our State Offices. We will continue to keep an eye on the conduct of our officials and apply appropriate sanctions on erring staff, both regular and ad-hoc”.

He warned political parties to avoid acrimonious primaries that will result in endless litigation and observe due diligence in the screening of their candidates.

According to him: “Given recent experience with some Governorship elections, political parties need to do more to avoid the conduct of acrimonious primaries or failure to observe due diligence in the screening of their candidates, resulting in protracted litigations and eventual determination of the outcome of elections by orders of court.

“I wish to draw the attention of political parties to two critical dates in the timetable released by the Commission a few weeks ago. Party primaries for the democratic election and nomination of candidates for the Governorship election in Edo State must be held from 2nd to 27th June 2020. The date for Ondo State is 2nd to 25th July 2020. The Commission will not extend the dates. We will also rigorously monitor the primaries and where necessary, apply sanctions as provided by law”.

Yakubu also hinted that the Commission will introduce critical changes ahead the coming governorship elections to strengthen the process and procedures.

Obaseki must do second term – APC chieftain allege

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Hon. Charles‎ Idahosa has described the crisis rocking the party in the state as ‘a storm in a teacup’, boasting that governor Godwin Obaseki must do two terms of eight years.

“Obaseki must do his eight years. Nobody can stop him. If anybody by omission or commission ‎does that, APC is dead in Edo State,” he warned.

Idahosa, a former political adviser to the ex-comrade governor, Adams Oshiomhole, spoke when a forum of APC chairmen in the 18 local government ‎areas of the state paid him a solidarity visit in his house in Benin City.

He argued that nobody challenged ex-governors Lucky Igbinedion and Adams Oshiomhole when they sought to contest for second terms of office and wondered why Obaseki should not do a second term of office.

Idahosa who said he stands as a rock of Gibraltar behind Obaseki in his quest for a second term ticket said Obaseki is very focused and straight forward and nobody can change him.

He said the reason why the crisis in the party had lingered without settlement was because Oshiomhole is envious of Obaseki’s achievements, alleging that the APC national chairman is the one “running from the settlement because he has boasted he will do this, he will do that.

‎”For those whose benevolent spirit cracked their palm kernel for them, they should not think they are God,” Idahosa said in a veiled reference to Oshiomhole and cautioned against making the APC crisis a tribal matter, adding that Edo State is one.

Idahosa further boasted that Governor Obaseki will defeat all the other governorship aspirants again as governor, recalling that he did so before when he was not a governor.

Earlier, the chairman of the chairmen forum and chairman of the APC in Orhionmwon local government area, Ben Oghumu, said the purpose of their forum was to bring sanity and unity into APC and called for support from Idahosa, even as he pledged for support for Obaseki’s bid for a second term.

Oshiomhole is the one with killer squad – Philip Shuaibu backs Obaseki

Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shuaibu, has dismissed a claim by the 14-Edo lawmaker that his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki, has killer-squad detailed to kill the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

The 14-Edo lawmaker had, while accusing Governor Obaseki of hatching plan to kill Oshiomhole and other APC leaders in the state, said: “We want to believe that because the leaders of our party, across the country, have been quiet to call Governor Obaseki to order, he has been further emboldened to kill everybody due to his desperate ambition for a second term.

“He has recruited a killer squad in Edo State and their mandate is to kill Oshiomhole and other APC leaders. So, he has continued to create crisis and disrupt public peace,” they noted.

However, reacting to the claim while speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Shuaibu alleged that it is the APC boss that should rather be accused of training a killer squad, due to his claim that he has infantry.

Asked what he knew about his governor training killer squad to kill Oshiomhole, he replied: “I don’t know anything about the governor’s killer squad. The governor does not have any squad rather, it is Oshiomhole who boasted in both social and conventional media that he has an infantry.

“So, if we are looking for the person who has killer squad, it should be the person who has infantry,” he said.

On the possibility of peace reigning in the party, the deputy governor maintained that the condition for peace to reign politically between him and Oshiomhole, is an apology and an endorsement of the governor for the second term.

“The only condition for two us to be on the same page politically is for him (Oshiomhole) to come back to Edo State as a father and say what has happened is in the past.

“And that he believes now that Governor Obaseki has taken the governance to the next level and for all of us to come back together and vote him for second term.

“When he (Oshiomhole) does that I will now be on the same page with him politically,” he said.

Obaseki/Oshiomhole: APC chieftain seek truce

Agbomhere, who is also the former governorship aspirant of APC in Edo, gave the advice in an interview known by NobleReporters in Abuja on Sunday.

He said the crisis did not only discourage potential investors from going to Edo but also de-marketed the state from other states and the world.

“One of the reasons, I am not happy with this present Government of Edo is that I feel that this crisis is de-marketing Edo to the rest of the states and the world.

“Now, they have been burning cars in Edo. They have been shooting and harassing people in Edo. Have you ever heard this government prosecutes anybody for that?

“It means they are not aware or it means they are not working. So, in the last rally, at least we heard that cars were burned,’’ Agbomhere said.

The party’s chieftain urged Edo Government not to tolerate any attack that would affect Edo people.

Godwin Obaseki & Adams Oshiomhole

“If I am a governor of Edo State, I will never support any attack whether in my interest or against my interest because the outcome will affect Edo people and I will not tolerate it.

“For me, I think that this present government has a challenge in its hand and also has the solution in its hand. I believe that the government knows how to solve it,’’ he said.

If Oshiomhole dies, we will hold Obaseki responsible – Lawmaker-elect ..

The 14 estranged Edo State lawmakers-elect have told Nigerians to hold Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, responsible if the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, is killed.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja, yesterday, spokesperson of the group, who represents Esan Central, Victor Edoror, pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari, party’s National Leader, Bola Tinubu, and the Progressives Governors’ Forum not to fold their hands and allow Governor Obaseki killer-squad kill the APC chairman.

The group further accused the Edo governor of fuelling the crisis in the state and frustrating all the peace efforts

“There have been series of attacks on members of APC across the state on different occasions just because they bear opposing views from that of Governor Obaseki and the government of the day in Edo. Homes of most leaders of the APC in Edo State have been marked for demolition by Governor Obaseki.

“Several petitions written to the IGP from June 18, 2019 after the attack on us in Benin, yet nobody has been held responsible for it.

“We want to believe that because leaders of our party across the country have failed to call Governor Obaseki to order, he has been further emboldened to kill everybody due to his desperate ambition for a second term.

“He has recruited a killer squad in Edo State and their mandate is to kill Oshiomhole and other APC leaders. So, he has continued to create crisis and disrupt the public peace.

“IGP should wake up to his responsibility of protecting lives, properties and maintaining public peace in Edo State by standing against infringement on rights of Edo people. We beg him to advise the Edo commissioner of police to be professional in his duty.”

But, in a swift reaction, Governor Obaseki said on the contrary, Oshiomhole was the one creating crisis and disrupting peace and safety.

In a statement by his spokesman, Obaseki claimed Oshiomhole along with other dissidents who were members of the Edo People’s Movement (EPM) have been making frantic efforts to make Edo ungovernable.

“They have been setting fire to market places and public buildings and creating all sorts of chaos in the state.

The state government has warned that the embattled national chairman and his co-dissidents in the EPM, are hellbent on causing a breakdown of law and order in the state.

“Oshiomhole has disobeyed orders by the police at the federal and state levels not to hold public gatherings against the directives of the state government.

His actions have led to the hospitalisation of tens of Edo people and the destruction of properties valued in millions of naira.

“From Edo South to Edo North, he has traded in violence and left many in anguish in the wake of his strong-headed approach to entrenching himself as a godfather in the state. Even with this, he has not relented, but rather continues to fan the embers of division, acting as if he is above the law in the state.

“We call on the IGP and the Presidency to call Oshiomhole to order. His ambition to become a godfather in Edo State is not worth the safety of the four million people in our state.”

Meanwhile, crisis rocking the state chapter of APC, turned bloody yesterday as a top member of the party, Henry Idahagbon narrowly escaped death as gunmen suspected to be hired assassins attacked him in his office.

Two persons were, however, said to have sustained bullet injuries during the attack.

One of those injured and said to be APC ward chairman, was said to have been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment.

Besides, restaurant at the ground floor of the building was severely damaged by the rampaging gunmen.

Idahagbon, a former attorney general and commissioner for justice, said the gunmen, who came in three vehicles, fired several shots at his office located on Siluko Road.

I will deal with you – Obaseki threatens Oshiomhole ..

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, Wednesday dared to confront his predecessor and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, if he (Oshiomhole) continues to disrupt activities in the state.

Governor Obaseki said Oshiomhole as a governor would not tolerate a fraction of the misdemeanour and misbehaviour he (Oshiomhole) is undertaking today.

Speaking a meeting of the 18 APC local government Chairmen in Benin the state capital, Obaseki said he would show Oshiomhole that he (Obaseki) is the governor of the state.

The governor said the regret of the Edo APC was the elevation of Oshiomhole without knowing the kind of a person he is.

He directed the party chairmen to seriously deal with any persons or group carrying out activities outside what the party hierarchy as agreed to.

Governor Obaseki stated that Oshiomhole did not build the APC as there was no party structure in place when he became governor.

According to him: “This is not a party man, look at the dump he kept the party as a Secretariat? With all the resources we had he could not support the party until the landlord evicted us. You are governor or chairman based on the platform that elevated you. That is why I looked for one of the most beautiful building along Airport Road and said this is the secretariat of the party.

“All this nonsense they are doing. If anybody in the name of our party tries to do anything contrary to what we have agreed as a party we will deal with that person ruthlessly no matter who he is.

“If you are elected a chairman, your attitude should show if you believe in the party. Party supremacy means the leadership of the party must respect the membership. It is the members that make the party supreme because the members subscribed to a constitution which governs the conduct of the party. One man cannot be the party.

“I am the governor of Edo State and I so authorise it. If anyone comes to your ward or local government to do things outside what the party has agreed I hereby authorise you to deal with that person seriously.

“We are warning the suspended National Chairman. If he continues his activities in Edo State, I will show him that I am the governor of Edo State. While he was Governor, he would not tolerate a fraction of the misdemeanour and misbehaviour he is undertaking today. I have declared that if Oshiomhole comes here to Edo to say he wants to disrupt the activities of the state and the party we will deal with him the way we know how best to do it.

“Comrade Oshiomhole stands suspended from the party. In due course, we will expel him if he does not behave. The party does not belong to him; it belongs to all of us. We are following the wish of our people. Our next step is to make sure we convince more people to join our party so that all of us can move this state to the next level. I will give you all the support to strengthen the party at the local government. Monthly meetings must hold. Monthly wards meetings must hold. Attendance must be taken. Wherever there are issues, you sit down and discuss it.”

However, a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Pally Iriase, described Obaseki’s comments as unfortunate and a hard one at that.

Why it is necessary Nigeria invest in infrastructures – Obaseki ..

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has said investment in infrastructure, including roads, electricity, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and gas is imperative for the country to attain economic diversification.

Obaseki, who spoke at the South-South Enlightenment Engagement Forum themed “Maximizing non-oil export potentials in the South-South region for economic growth,” said his administration has in the last three years focused on diversifying the economy of Edo State.

Speaking to participants at the event in Asaba, Delta State, Obaseki said his administration has worked very hard to create the enabling environment for businesses to thrive, stressing that one of the missing links is financing support and expertise to manage small businesses, which Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) is bringing on board.

“For us to diversify our economy and encourage export as a nation, we must focus on infrastructure, particularly access to roads, electricity, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and gas.

“Edo and Delta states are blessed as we have the capacity of generating almost 2,000 megawatts of electricity but the challenge is how to move the power to areas for effective production,” he said.

Obaseki said his government has also embraced agriculture to develop and grow the Edo economy, adding: “We have partnered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to develop the oil palm fund and the CBN has supported our plan with N70 billion in funding. We have programmes for both small and large investors in oil palm. Under the oil palm programme, we approached the World Bank programme called Rural Access and Mobility Projects (RAMP) to develop rural roads for easy evacuation of farm produce for export.”

On his part, Delta State Governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa said the engagement forum was a big leap for Delta State and the South-South region as it encourages the region to begin production for exports.

“The programme is to enlighten the people and encourage the states to produce for export. Beyond the knowledge, NEXIM Bank has facilities to support each state and SMEs in the South-South. The bank has committed N1 billion to grow SMEs and the lending rates is convenient at nine per cent cheaper than what you get in commercial banks, which is 20 or 21 per cent per annum.”

The Managing Director of NEXIM Bank, Abba Bello, said the organisation is signing a Memorandum of Understanding with all states in the South-South region to support the efforts of the governors in the region to diversify their economies.

“The N1 billion is a start-up seed, which we intend to grow to N5 billion per state and in the next 3 to 5 years, spread across other states in Nigeria. We are ready to support all the efforts the South-South governors are embarking upon in diversifying the revenue base of their states’ economy outside of oil,” he noted.

Second term: Obaseki can’t beg anyone – Edo ..

Edo State government on Tuesday wanted the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to desist from acts capable of portraying him as a lawless figure in the state and beyond.
The government also denied reports making the rounds in the state that Governor Godwin Obaseki is begging some Oshiomhole and some party leaders for forgiveness and to solicit their support for his second term bid.

It said the warning became important in view of Oshiomhole’s recent actions particularly as regards last week Saturday’s APC rally in Auchi headquarters of Etsako West Council Area and attended by some governorship aspirants and leaders of of the party drawn from Edo North Senatorial district of the state.
The party reminded Oshiomhole and his cronies to desist from their execesses and not to take for granted the silence and gentlemanly disposition of Governor Godwin Obaseki in his determination to ensure peace and progress of the state.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters (South Senatorial district) Him.

Osaigbovbo Iyioha, who stated this during a press conference held in Benin the state capital, reminded the APC national and others that the police ban on political rallies and such related activities, is still in force.
Hon. Iyioha noted that moves to reconcile all aggrieved members in view of the crisis rocking the state chapter of the party appear to have yeikded the desired results because “Oshiomhole who is supposed to be an arbiter is an interested party”.

Obaseki’s 2nd term: PDP in support..

Mr Joe Edionwele, a member of the PDP representing Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben Federal constituency at the House of Representative, declared his support for Obaseki’s re-election during a Special Election Victory Thanksgiving organised by Mr Marcus Onobun, a state lawmaker.

The thanksgiving ceremony was held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Iruekpen, Esan West Local Government Area, on Sunday.

“I want to tell you to continue your good works. It does not matter how long you spend in power, it is the legacy you live behind that matters.

“Let it be known to you that those who are with you are more than those against you.

“It is about development and since that is what you stand for, there is no party in development; you have done roads, schools and health centres.

“I want to thank you on behalf of the Church. You are an Anglican, so 2020 is Anglican. May God perfect all that concerns you.

“We need you to do some roads in Iruekpen, not because we will vote for you, but because you are a good man,” he said.

NobleReporters reports that Onobun, who represents Esan West, won the seat on the ticket of the APC.

Orbih, PDP shades Obaseki, APC on poor performance

Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih, has again faulted the state multi million naira agricultural project in Sobe, saying the project is a complete failure without any product to show for it.

Orbih, who spoke at a political rally at the residence of the late former Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, ‎Mr. Benson Alegbe, in Owan West Local Government Area of the state, accused the state government of using the project to help a friend.

His said: “They decided to establish a farm at Sobe, close to N1 billion was spent on that farm. I challenge Edo Governor to tell Edo people what has become of that investment. I can tell you that the project is a complete failure. I have visited Sobe, I have been to the farm and all I can see is that somebody in the government house decided to help a friend by committing public funds running into hundreds of millions of naira without any product coming out of the farm.”

He also mocked the PDP members, who defected to the ruling APC, over their perceived plight, saying “They are not in hell, they are not in heaven, they are not in PDP, they are not in APC.”

The Chairman of Edo North PDP leaders’ Forum, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, in his own address at the rally, urged the people of Owan West to eschew political bitterness and work together in unity. “Let us forget about what happened in the past, let us work together so that our children can enjoy what we laboured for. We need to forgive ourselves in whatever way we might have offended ourselves because there is a better tomorrow”, he said.

Obaseki – Oshiomhole suspended, INEC to conduct fresh election into EDHA.

…Okah replies Obaseki, You are an embarrassment & political misfit

Reconciliation appears foreclosed for warring members of the Edo State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), with the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki insisting that the National Chairman of the party and immediate past governor of the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has been suspended from the party.

Besides, he announced that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), would soon fix a date to conduct a fresh election into the State House of Assembly.

Obaseki who spoke while addressing APC members from Owan East and West Local Government Areas in Sabogida-Ora, said there is no division in the state APC, but threatened that all those working to destabilize the party would be shown the way out.

He said the APC in the state is united, strong and formidable, stressing that members of the Edo Peoples Movement (EPM) are not members of the APC.

“Members of the EPM are trying to frustrate the good plans we have for Edo people as their plan is to burn markets and government buildings. Their intention is to discredit our administration but the people of Edo know better.

“APC is one party; those that say they are in EPM are not APC, including their National Chairman who we have suspended in Edo State. Those mistakenly elected into Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) who are members of EPM have been thrown out and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is aware and will soon announce date for a fresh election, where we would have opportunity to elect credible representatives who will represent us in the House.

“Any person doing anti-party activities, President Muhammadu Buhari has asked us to deal with them. We have been told to go back to organise our party; that’s why we are here. As a ruling party in the state, we have done a lot for Edo people, moving the state forward progressively but EPM are afraid of progress and will do anything to ensure we don’t get another term”, he Obaseki‎ said.

Describing himself as “a governor for development”, the governor added “The support here today is massive and it speaks volume, further showing that the suspended National Chairman’s antics will not work.

“He no longer has the support of Edo people. The act of trying to create faction of APC in Edo State can’t work; we are still intact, strong and united. Our politics in Edo State is transparent and can’t tolerate any act of dubiousness. If you are a progressive, you must be a real Progressive”.
Incensed by his comments, the State Secretary of the APC, Mr. Lawrence Okah, in a statement, described Obaseki as an “embarrassment and a political misfit” and urged party members to ignore him.

‎”It is very clear and obvious that the governor’s second term ambition has affected his sense of reasoning. We don’t really blame his ignorance because he developed diarrhea of the mouth after our national chairman made him governor on a platter of gold.

“A man that has never voted before in Edo State until last year. A man that lost his unit, ward, Local Government and senatorial district in the Presidential election has now turned a super star due to the fact that he controls the resources of the state. Does he even know what campaign is? The whole world was even asking us whether he was deaf and dumb when Oshiomhole was marketing him in 2016 because he cannot even speak for himself. So it is funny when he said he now owns the Edo APC.

“We dare him to go get his own INEC to conduct election in the state House of Assembly for the 14 members. He will soon realize that the people of Edo State regretted the day they gave him their mandate.

“The fact remains that Obaseki is now going round the state recruiting people that will move with him to the PDP. Just two days ago, he held a meeting with top PDP leaders in Edo State with a view to perfecting plans for his defection. But we will tell him that none of our members will join him to enter PDP. Even his Deputy, Philip Shaibu will not follow him to PDP.

“If he is a man like he claims, he should have met face to face with the National Chairman of our great party, to discuss any matter bothering him rather than abusing Oshiomhole in his backward.

“He is an embarrassment to our party and the country and we are sorry to the great men and women of this party for the daily embarrassment the governor is exhibiting. We are indeed very sorry. I want to urge our people to disregard his careless statements and remain focus. Edo State APC under our indisputable leader, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, remains remains solid”.

Oshiomhole mother reject Obaseki’s Xmas gift.

… state that her son would not accept the gifts.

Hajiya Aishetu Oshiomhole, mother of the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), has rejected Christmas gifts sent to her son, Adams Oshiomhole by his successor in Edo, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser to Edo State Governor on Media and Communications, disclosed this in a statement in Benin on Wednesday, December 25th saying the conventional Christmas presents reserved for former governors of the state that were sent to Oshiomhole’s home were returned.

He said that messengers from the state government were dispatched to deliver the gifts on Christmas eve.

“The messengers said they met the mother of the former governor who rejected the items, stating that her son would not accept the gifts. The gift items meant for Comrade Oshiomhole include four cows and ten bags of rice”.

He said the distribution of Christmas gifts was an annual ritual by the state government which serves as an expression of love, further strengthening the ties between the government and the people.

He said the gifts were distributed to other government functionaries, political appointees, heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders and heads of institutions of higher learning, among other prominent people in the society.

Osagie said Obaseki and Comrade Oshiomhole had been locked in a political tussle over the governor’s policy choices focused on prioritising the peoples’ welfare as against pressures by a handful of politicians to share the state’s resources. He said the governor had set the political rift aside to perform the ritual of sending the gifts to Comrade Oshiomhole.

Oshiomhole vs Obaseki: CAN intervenes disagreement.

…pleads with both parties

The Edo State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), yesterday, intervened in the disagreement between the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Governor Godwin Obaseki resulting in the crisis rocking the party in the state and sued for peace and compromise.

Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat of the Christian body in Benin City, Chairman of the group, Bishop (Dr) Oyonnude Kure, said CAN has been intervening in the case since October 2019 and that after inviting the two actors, the association was able to identify eight issues they feel were responsible for the crisis.

Kure said even though they remain apolitical, they were interested because they were stakeholders in the state and listed the issues responsible for the feud to include the opening of the Central Hospital, constitution of dissolved boards and parastatals, politics of exclusion, award of contracts to “foreigners”, the inauguration of the state house of assembly, unpaid severance allowance to former deputy governor, Dr. Pius Odubu.

“CAN pleads with both parties to embrace what unites us as a state and not what divides us. As both of them are Christians who share one faith, one baptism, one Lord, one hope of our calling, and both are members of the same political family; they should endeavour to make for peace in Edo State. It is therefore important that they sheathe their swords.

“As trust and confidence are the binding forces for progress, we therefore appeal to them to restore the trust and confidence that once existed between them, in order to achieve the desired progress in the state.

“We urge His Excellency not to relent in his effort towards the good governance of the state and pursue the issue of inclusion by resolving the issue with aggrieved party members within the ambit of the rule of law so as to join forces together to ensure continuity in the art of governance of the state”

The Christian body advised that there should be mutual respect for one another and the issues talked over in the interest of Edo People and both operating with respect to the truth under God and within the ambit of the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, adding that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole ‘s place of honour and respect in the state should be maintained.

Condemning political attacks in the state, the Edo CAN said “For any form of attacks, we therefore enjoin both parties to consciously guide and watch against future re-occurrence, ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice”

Obaseki explains how arsonists attacks fire fighters during fire outbreak in Edo Ekiosa market

The Edo State Government has shed more light on the activities of suspected arsonists, working in cohorts with unscrupulous politicians under the aegis of the disbanded Edo Peoples Movement (EPM), to sabotage markets in Benin metropolis and the state government.

The State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, said this when he led members of the state executive council to inspect the extent of damage at Osa market (Ekiosa) and the Edo Development Property Agency (EDPA) after the Sunday, December 22 inferno.

He said that the incident was not an accident, but the handiwork of arsonists out to sabotage markets and discredit government.

The governor, who approved the release of N100 million to compensate traders whose goods were destroyed in the fire incident, noted that it was unfortunate that different markets in the state have been gutted by fire within a short period, a development he attributed to the antics of the enemies of the state.

The governor said intelligence reports indicated that some people who are disgruntled over his reforms and programmes targeted at improving the welfare of the people, were behind the recent infernos in markets.

The governor decried the new dimension of fire incidents in the state, where these suspected arsonists, prevent firefighters from gaining access to markets being gutted by fire.

He said the fire incidents were politically motivated by the disgruntled politicians, who had vowed to make government unbearable for him.

According to him, “They say they want to shame us; they tried other tricks, but did not succeed. They say they will cause havoc during this Yuletide, but their plans will fail.

“You cannot tell me that the fire on the 6th floor of the EDPA building was an accident. It is a clear case of arson. We had passed the market to Edo Central Senatorial District. We got to hear about the fire at about 10am. The Fire Department was sent in from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), but the people attacked them.”

“Last week, when a similar incident occurred, firefighters came in to quell the fire in Oliha market and the people chased them. There is a pattern to what they are doing.

“They should try whatever they like, but we will continue to work for the people of the state; they cannot remove us from Edo,” he said.

He asked the market women association to submit a list of traders whose goods were burnt in the market so they could be compensated, adding, “The traders should come up with a list so we can assist you to start again. The money will be given to you through Sterling Bank.”

The governor said the market would be rebuilt from early 2020, while a section of it would be cleared for the traders to use as a temporary arrangement.

He added that the state government has decided to take over the security of markets from local councils and would work with market associations to secure markets, noting that markets without fire extinguishers and borehole would be shutdown.

Responding to the proposed security framework for markets, the Edo Commissioner of Police, Mr Lawan Jimeta, said he would deploy his men to ensure the success of the arrangement and provide the needed strategic backing.

Edo: APC frowns at Obaseki for rejecting Peace committee

…they could not now be adjudicators

The the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has reacted to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s rejection of the newly-constituted National Reconciliation Committee set up to address the problems bedeviling the party in some states.

Recall that Governor Obaseki in a statement jointly issued by the state Commissioner ‎for Information and Orientation, Paul Ohonbamu and his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, had rejected Committee because it is allegedly populated by persons with vested interests in the crisis rocking the Edo APC.

The statement sp‎ecifically accused two members of the Committee, the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan and Deputy.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Wase of meddling in the altercation between the Edo State Government and the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, saying they could not now be adjudicators on the matter.

But in a statement in Benin City yesterday, the party said it welcome the setting up of the Committee, which was one of the decisions at the last National Executive Committee its (NEC) meeting which had President Muhammadu Buhari in attendance.

The statement signed by Col. David Imuse (rtd.) and Lawrence Okah, Acting Chairman and State Secretary of the APC in Edo State, “dissociates itself from the decision of the governor and his cohorts who no longer see anything good in our great party.

“For quite sometime now, we have cried to the world that Governor Obaseki is the problem the APC has in Edo State but some persons whom he unfortunately brainwashed listen to his lies. However, Edo people, who are the voters, know the truth about Obaseki.

“It will interest President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of our party that this is the fourth time Governor Obaseki would reject trouble-shooting Committees on Edo State and decisions made by respected institutions in this country.

“First was the decision of the House of Representatives, calling on the governor to issue a fresh proclamation letter after he criminally inaugurated 9 out of 24 members of the State House of Assembly at 9:30pm.

“Governor Obaseki bluntly rejected that decision and accused the respected members of the Green Chambers of carrying out the bidding of Comrade Adam’s Oshiomhole.

“The second was the senate resolution, which also advised the governor to do the right things as earlier directed by the House of Representatives. Again, Governor Obaseki flouted the resolution and went further to get an injunction restraining the NASS from interfering in the crisis situation in the state House of Assembly. Rather than embrace peace like the Governor of Bauchi did, which led to the peace being enjoyed today in the Bauchi state Assembly, Governor Obaseki ‘s ego did not allow him do that. Today, he and his cohorts have dragged the NWC, NASS and the State APC through the courts.

“He had further gone ahead to declare vacant the seats of our 14 House of Assembly members who went to court in total disregard to the pendency of these issues before the court.

“Thirdly, the NWC decided to set up a peace committee headed by the governor of Kano State. Again, Governor Obaseki and his clique went to court to restrain that committee from carrying out its functions. That matter is still before the law court.

“Just a few days ago, our teeming supporters across the nation celebrated the setting up of a National Reconciliation Committee, which was the idea of our party leaders, including President Muhammadu Buhari, at the last NEC meeting. Governor Obaseki has, again, condemned the constitution of the Committee, which is ably led by our respected Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan.

“We are, indeed, aware that this committee was not only set up to look into the crisis in Edo APC but also in other states where we have issues such as Rivers, Ondo, Zamfara, etc. Remarkably, none of the leaders in these states have condemned the Committee but Obaseki who is always speaking from both sides of the mouth about the search for peace in Edo APC.

“We don’t think that former Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo and former Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State defied these reputable institutions, including the party, before they were suspended by the party. It is clear we have a tyrant in Edo as governor.

According to col.imuse and Okah, the actions of Governor Obaseki was not a surprise to the APC in Edo State because the governor and his cohorts have allegedly left the APC in the spirit but are creating confusion to destroy the party in the state and blame their despicable action on Comrade Oshiomhole.

They alleged that “at the moment, Edo State Government House is now venue for meetings of PDP leaders in the state. But we are not worried about that because Governor Obaseki who failed to win his ward and unit during the Presidential election has no electoral prowess to upset the APC in the forthcoming gover election.

“The APC in Edo State expresses its gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for setting up the National Reconciliation Committee. Edo APC looks forward to the Committee’s deliberation in Edo State.
“As a party, we want peace in our state. Therefore, we urge the Committee to disregard the position of the governor on this matter because Obaseki is not the owner of APC in Edo State.

“It is clear that even if our Lord Jesus Christ comes down from heaven to head the Committee, Governor Obaseki will still complain because his soul has left APC. All he wants now is to destroy the APC. But we will resist him no matter how much of the state’s funds he is throwing around in his desperation for a second term.

“Finally, we want to state categorically that, at no time, was our National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, suspended from his ward. It is laughable that Governor Obaseki who does not understand the constitution of the APC will gather his SAs and Commissioners to Government House to announce that they have suspended our leaders, including Comrade Oshiomhole. How can a Governor who lost his ward,

LGA and senatorial district in the last general election, say he has suspended people who won their areas for the APC?

That is laughable.

“Prior to the general election, he made a pronouncement that any government appointee that lost his unit or ward during the election should resign. After the elections, we expected he would be a man of honour to resign after he lost his unit and ward, but he has remained as governor and has been tormenting leaders who won their areas for President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We appeal to our President and other leaders of the party to call Governor Obaseki to order as he is pushing Edo State to a state of anarchy. APC members are being hounded, beaten and maimed in any of their gatherings on the orders of Governor Obaseki. If he intends to leave the party as he had already perfected his plot, he should do so quietly so we can move on.

“We have implicit confidence in our National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and we believe that he will lead Edo State to victory again in 2020”, the statement said.

NDDC abandoned projects: Edo state rank highest – Obaseki.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has maintained that his administration is strongly in support of the directive by President Muhammadu Buhari for a forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), noting that the state ranks highest in the commission’s abandoned project list.

Obaseki said this when he received the acting Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Gbene Joi Nunieh, with other members of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), who were on a courtesy visit at the Government House in Benin City, the Edo State Capital.

The governor also frowned at the top-to-bottom governance arrangement of the NDDC, adding that it can’t develop the region, stressing that the commission’s defaulting contractors must be jailed.

“To resolve the issue of corruption in NDDC, people must go to jail. Those who supervised and managed these contracts and every other person found culpable must be made to face the law,” he said.

Governor Obaseki, who congratulated the commission’s boss on her appointment, assured that his administration will work with the new NDDC management to ensure it meets its goals.

“The NDDC has not been fair to Edo State as we have more abandoned projects in the state than other states. We are disappointed with the old management and board of NDDC. We insist on the forensic audit to ensure such doesn’t happen again. I hope that with the new acting MD, we would begin to do the right thing and move the region forward.”

Obaseki continued, “The truth is that the governance arrangement of NDDC from top to bottom can’t develop the region. Its DNA is corruption. We see how NDDC contracts are traded and how much premium are paid on the contracts.

Obaseki thanked the new MD for pushing for the Advisory Council Meeting of Governors in the nine states, scheduled to hold in January 2020.

In her response, Dr. Nunieh said the commission was in the state to inspect some of the roads and projects the NDDC listed as completed, abandoned, failed and on-going.

She noted, “President Muhammad Buhari has ordered for a forensic audit to commence and we have gotten documents ready and the process will start in January 2020”.

The NDDC boss said most of NDDC contractors have failed because they got multiple contracts from various sources, adding, “Since commencement of its intervention in Edo State, the NDDC has embarked on 738 infrastructural conventional projects valued at over N118 billion. Of these, 48 valued at N36.6 billion, are reported as on-going or abandoned.”

The high point of the visit was the unveiling of the equipment donated by NDDC to Edo State Government. The items donated include two Toyota ambulances; Lassa fever protective kits; cold chain facility to store vaccines; 2,000 units of personnel protective kits and drugs for Irrua Specialist Hospital, and Science Laboratory tools for secondary schools as well as four sewage trucks.

Oshiomhole – I tried reconciling with Obaseki on several occasions

…bullshit Allegation of playing godfather

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, on Friday claimed he made numerous efforts to bring peace to the Edo State APC, describing as “bullshit” the allegation that he was playing godfather in Edo State.

Speaking in a television interview, Oshiomhole said, “As part of my efforts to resolve the problems in Edo State, there was a time the governor told me he would not have anything to do with Charles Idahosa because he lost his booth during his own governorship election; but it was here in this my living room that I invited Idahosa and he did not know the governor was coming, I invited the governor he did not know Idahosa was coming.

“When the governor entered the room, Idahosa sat and said he was not going to have a handshake with him and used a language for me that was derogatory. I said ‘No, Charles. You cannot talk like that. This is the governor and you must respect him.’ And I said, ‘Governor, please whatever Charles has done that you are not happy about, we have won, put them behind you.’ I said in this business, if you didn’t work with people because of their electoral value, sometimes you would work with them because of their nuisance value. So you would not gain by saying you wouldn’t work with this one or this one.”

He mentioned Rev Egharevba and Prince Eweka as examples of other party stalwarts that had conflicts with the governor and he had to intervene.

“My own embarrassment is when they say Oshiomhole wants to be like a godfather. If I wanted to be, I will be nominating commissioners. I only persuaded him to accept one commissioner from me, only one and I gave my reasons. He was a founding member of my campaign organisation in 2006, Mika. Other than Mika, I did not nominate any commissioner; I did not nominate any special adviser, special assistant because for me these are governance issues. So where is the godfather from?

Meanwhile, the Edo State Government has rejected the composition of the APC National Reconciliation Committee led by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Paul Ohonbamu; and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, it alleged that the committee comprised by persons with vested interests in the crisis rocking the ruling party.

It also alleged that some of the members of the committee such as Senator Lawan and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Wase, meddled in the altercation between Edo State Government and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, and could not now be adjudicators on the matter.

Meanwhile, the Edo State chapter of the APC on Friday said Anselm Ojezua’s call for Oshiomhole to resign was an attack on his person and the exalted office, adding that it amounted to the highest level of insubordination and arrogance.

When contacted, Ojezua insisted he remained the chairman of the APC in the state and that Col. David Imuse, who is recognised by the national leadership of the party as the acting chairman of the party in the state, did not exist.

Edo crisis will be resolved soon – Shaibu tells journalists.

…2020 will be the most peaceful election

Edo State deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, yesterday, urged members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, not to be disturbed by the happenings within the All Progressives Congress in the state, saying they will fizzle out within the shortest time.

He gave the assurance during his annual get-to-gether breakfast party for newsmen at his Aideyan residence in Benin City.

Shaibu said the 2020 Edo State governorship election will be very peaceful and Governor Obaseki will be re-elected into office for the second time while those currently flexing their muscles would join them to celebrate his victory at the poll.

“By the grace of God 2020 will be the most peaceful election and the victory of Obaseki shall be seamless. Do not worry about all the disturbances you are hearing, it will calm soon.

“And those characters that are flexing muscles, we know them, they will join. We are family members, they underated the governor and did not know he is man of strong will”, he said.

Commending the Journalists for their unflinching support for this present administration, Shaibu said their inputs are still needed to move the state forward.

“I want to thank all of you for being part of this success story because when they are talking about the success of this government, all of you will be remembered for having supported the government.

“So, on this effort that we have put in place and all the achievements that we have had; it is not because we are superhuman but because we are supported.

“And I want to continue to count on that support and reassure you that Edo State will continue to be forward ever and backward never.

“And those things that make Edo State to be an autopilot in terms of development, we shall continue to put them in place‎ and if there are other things you feel we can do, you know we are always open, let us know because for us to continue doing those good things we must rely on your input”, Shaibu said.

The deputy governor recounted his past experiences he had in the prison and the roles Journalists played in his release and promised to always set a day out to appreciate them.

“It is another 20th day of December and you know we always celebrate ourselves and thank God for his mercies and protection for our lives all through the year.

“This is our unique way of saying thank God for giving us protection. And also to appreciate all of you.

“Everywhere I go to ,I always identify with the press because of what they did for me when I needed them most.

“If that journalist had not revealed that there were still some young men after Gani Fawehinmi and others were released from Gusau Prison, then maybe I will not be alive today.

“We would have been executed during the military but that pen that he put to paper saved our lives.
“So, you can see I do not have any choice that to celebrate all of you that are here today”, he said.

Adams oshiomhole not under house arrest

Former Executive Director on Media and Publicity to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prince John Mayaki has denied reports that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is under house arrest.

This claim has been making the rounds on the internet as part of the ongoing crisis surrounding the rally organized to mark the return of Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu to the APC from the PDP.

“Reeling from the public humiliation suffered over the clear abuse of power and instigation of violence in the state today, the Edo State government is trying to save face by spreading the false and fictitious reports that the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, is under house arrest,” Prince John Mayaki said in a statement released to reporters this evening.

“Nothing could be further from the truth. The National Chairman has committed no crime or wrongdoing and thus cannot be denied his freedom.”

“Members of the public are urged to disregard this false report concocted by the satanic government of Obaseki after it was unsuccessful in its attempt to block the peaceful rally held to herald the homecoming of Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu to the APC,” he said.

Obaseki’s regime ban political rallies in Benin.

…group insist rallies would commence to welcome Osagie.

The Edo State government has placed a ban on all political rallies in the state. Osarodion Ogie, secretary to the state government made this known in a statement issued on Friday, December 13th.

The development is coming hours after Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), arrived in Benin and insisted that a rally would be held to welcome Osagie Ize-Iyamu, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2016, to the party.

Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police, had ordered the suspension of the rally after Philip Shuaibu, Edo deputy governor, met with him and said the event could cause violence.

In the statement, Ogie said all security agencies have been directed to deal with anyone who breaches the directive.

The secretary said anyone who lets his property for political rallies would have his certificate of occupancy revoked and forfeited to the state government.

“The events of yesterday 12th December, 2019 were a scary prelude to the absolute mayhem which these irresponsible activities would generate if left unchecked.

In defiance of the clear and publicized instruction of the Inspector General of Police, calling off the proposed rally owing to security implications, these desperate persons are presently shopping around for alternative venues to carry out their incendiary activities” the statement read.
