Idrissa Gueye shocking Newcastle loan deal rejection.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also being name-dropped as a potential target for the Magpies.

Newcastle have failed in their pursuit to sign Idrissa Gueye on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, despite holding initial talks.

Newcastle are in search of a midfielder, but are yet to use the January transfer window to strengthen their squad and are running out of time.

L’Equipe initially reported that Newcastle had made contact over a loan move for the 31-year-old, but the Daily Mail have since confirmed that Gueye has turned down the chance to return to the Premier League with Steve Bruce’s side.

The midfielder was signed by then-PSG manager Thomas Tuchel for a reported £29m fee in summer 2019 and has made 16 appearances this season but has featured in limited capacity, having completed just one full game since October.

Gueye is now struggling to find a regular place in the side under the new management of Mauricio Pochettino, with a change of system taking him out of the side.

Pochettino has been in pursuit of Dele Alli since taking the PSG job, with the England midfielder out of favour at Tottenham.

PSG’s pursuit of Alli has since broken down, however, and is now expected to remain in north London beyond the deadline, which could affect any move for Gueye.

Newcastle have also been linked with a loan move for Leicester’s Hamza Choudhury, but any deal could be dependant on whether the Foxes get an attacking midfielder in before the deadline themselves.

The versatile midfielder is expected to leave on loan before the transfer window slams shut and Newcastle have been in contact over a loan move, as have Leicester and Southampton.

Newcastle starts Negotiations with Coutinho

Newcastle have reportedly opened talks with Philippe Coutinho over a potential summer move.

The Brazilian midfielder is set to return to Barcelona at the end of June after Bayern decided against signing him permanently following his loan spell.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle, who could soon be taken over by Saudi Arabia PIF, are eager to sign Coutinho and are aiming to press ahead with a move.

There is much interest in Coutinho, who has also been linked with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal. He is reportedly valued at £71m by Barcelona.

Coutinho is currently struggling with an ankle injury which means that he may not play again this season.

If Newcastle do receive a £300m investment it would enable them to improve their squad considerably and Coutinho is an appealing option, especially given that he possesses prior experience of playing in the Premier League.

This season Coutinho has scored eight goals and provided six assists in 22 Bundesliga appearances.

Coutinho made the switch to Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018 but struggled to settle at the Nou Camp, where his current deal runs until the summer of 2023.

Cavani Links with United despite Atletico,Inter and Newcastle’s interest

Cavani’s future continues to be up in the air, and that means he’ll continue to be linked with a move to Manchester United.

The 33 year old’s contract at PSG expires at the end of June and he’s of interest to several clubs. Sunday’s edition of L’Equipe reports Inter Milan, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid are in the picture as potential destinations.

Cavani will not ‘rule out’ moving to Old Trafford, and the same goes for other options on the table. The French newspaper states Manchester United have been interested since January, which makes some sense given their search for a striker at the time.

PSG priced Cavani out of a move in the winter market, with it being reported at the time they asked Atletico Madrid for as much as €30m to sign the Uruguayan. The failure of that transfer reportedly angered Cavani, and it may well be that he’d prefer Atletico should they make another attempt this summer.

Manchester United need to decide what to do regarding Odion Ighalo, and whether they even need a new striker given Marcus Rashford will be fit for the start of next season.

If they do want to sign a short term option, and if Cavani would accept a short contract, then he could be a solution.

Newcastle is no Match, Bale Should stay at Madrid – berbatov

Gareth Bale is being tipped to remain in his current surroundings despite the transfer talk that continues to swirl around him, with Dimitar Berbatov admitting “you cannot compare Newcastle with Real Madrid”.

The Wales international has seen a move away from Santiago Bernabeu mooted for some time and a return to the Premier League for the former Tottenham forward is considered to be his best option, although a completely new challenge could be sought in MLS or China.

Berbatov admits that his ex-Spurs team-mate needs to find more regular game time from somewhere, but is not convinced that the 30-year-old will walk away from Madrid for the sake of it.

He is also less than convinced that Newcastle, who are the subject of a potential £300 million ($366m) takeover, can be the ones to lure Bale back to English football.

~Gareth Bale

Berbatov told Betfair of a man he once played alongside in north London: “Every time Gareth Bale is mentioned it is a case of will he leave Real Madrid, will he stay, is he playing, is he scoring, is he playing golf, why is he playing golf?

“It’s tiring and in my opinion, he has his agent, his family, his surroundings and if they think that Madrid is the right place for him then he will stay, it doesn’t matter what anyone else says.

“Many people think he needs to leave Madrid and some of the supporters want him to leave, but I think he likes it there and if that is the case that is all that will matter to him.

“Personally, I want to see him play more, score more and produce the performances like he has done in the past. If you are not appreciated where you are, then you go somewhere else.

“At Real Madrid his goals to games ratio has been really impressive and some of the goals he has scored during his time there have been amazing, the type of goals that average players cannot score.

“Look at that goal he scored in the Champions League final against Liverpool – it speaks volumes for the quality he has. You can know a lot about a player by the type of goals they score and the goals that Bale has scored really tell me that he has a lot of quality.

“There have been a lot of reports about Newcastle possibly signing Bale, he has been at Real Madrid for some time now, he has won so many trophies and he is appreciated around the world for the football he plays. But with all due respect, you cannot compare Newcastle with Real Madrid.

“If Newcastle want to get him, they need to show him that they are building something. The coach needs somebody with whom he can connect and that might mean they have to get a new coach.

“If Newcastle appoint Mauricio Pochettino, then OK, great start, but then they need to tell him what other players they are going to sign. If he sees all that and he likes what he sees, maybe he will consider it, but for me, I think he will stay at Real Madrid.”

Newcastle shows Serious Interest in Barca’s Coutinho

Newcastle United ‘want to make Philippe Coutinho their statement signing’ once their Saudi takeover is completed and Mauricio Pochettino is installed as manager.

The £300million deal, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, is awaiting the approval of the Premier League but has been held up following Qatar’s broadcast piracy allegations.

Assuming the takeover goes through, Newcastle’s spending power would be transformed with former Tottenham manager Pochettino seen as the man to deliver a potential title challenge.

And, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Brazilian star Coutinho could be on his way to St James’ Park as one of Newcastle’s first signings.

Barcelona wish to sell Coutinho to raise funds to buy Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez and potentially Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain.

Valued at around £70million, Coutinho has been linked with Chelsea and Leicester City but Mundo Deportivo believe Newcastle could swoop in.

Coutinho, 27, moved from Liverpool to Barcelona for an initial fee of £105m potentially rising to £142m in January 2018.

But he has struggled to make an impact at the Nou Camp and is currently on loan at Bayern Munich in Germany, who have no intention of making the move permanent.

~Phillipe Coutinho

Pochettino, the former Tottenham boss, actually coached Coutinho in 2012 when the Brazilian was on loan at Espanyol from Inter Milan.

Mundo report that Barcelona are unwilling to budge on their valuation as they wish to recoup as much of their 2018 outlay as possible on a player contracted until 2023.

Newcastle’s vast new wealth would also be able to comfortably afford the expense.

Newcastle ‘join transfer race’ for Chelsea and Everton target Coutinho

Philippe Coutino has been linked with a shock move to Newcastle United as speculation continues over the former Liverpool star’s future.

Coutinho could be on his way back to the Premier League this summer, with Chelsea believed to be leading the race to sign the Barcelona misfit.

Tottenham, Everton and Leicester have also been touted as potential destinations for the Brazilian, who has failed to hit the heights of his starring role at Liverpool since making a big-money move to Barca in January 2018.

But Newcastle are the latest club to be mentioned in connection with the 27-year-old, who has spent the season on loan at Bayern Munich.

With the Magpies set for a £300million takeover by a Saudi-led consortium, Mundo Deportivo reports that the Tyneside club would be willing to match Barcelona’s £110m price tag for Coutinho.

The attacking midfielder would be a flagship signing for new owners looking to establish Newcastle as a serious force in the Premier League.

Bayern are believed to be unwilling to pay Barcelona’s asking price to make Coutinho’s switch permanent, while Liverpool have told the player they are not interested in re-signing him.

Arturo Vidal shows interest In Newcastle if they hire Max Allegri

United could be set to launch a shock bid to sign Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal.

The Chilean international is reportedly set to leave the Nou Camp this summer, and Steve Bruce’s side could be set to fight Manchester United and Inter Milan for his signature.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Vidal is giving serious consideration to a Premier League proposal, but it is not from Old Trafford.

The report states that Vidal sees Newcastle as having a ‘very attractive growth plan,’ and would be interested in joining the club if they were to replace Bruce with his old Juventus boss Max Allegri.

On the other hand, he is reportedly ‘unconvinced’ by Manchester United’s plans for the future.

Vidal’s contract at Barcelona is set to expire in June 2021, so a sale this summer at a reduced price seems likely.

Earlier this week bookmakers slashed the odds of Allegri becoming the next Newcastle manager, as the club’s £350m takeover moves closer to completion.

The Italian left Juventus at the end of last season and has been out of work ever since.

Magpies’ owner Mike Ashley is in talks with a group led by Amanda Staveley to sell the club after 13 years in charge.

If the takeover was to go through, the ambitious prospective buyers are thought to want a big name to replace Bruce, with former manager Rafa Benitez also reportedly in contention.

Vidal has never played in England, having spent his career with Colo Colo, Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus and Bayern Munich before joining the Nou Camp.

Should Newcastle make a move, their fiercest rivals could come in Italian giants Inter Milan.

Inter’s manager Antonio Conte has also worked with Vidal at Juventus, and the Chilean could be included in any attempt from Barcelona to sign striker Lautaro Martinez.

Vidal played three seasons at Juventus under Conte before spending his final season at the club playing for Allegri.

Lazaro’s loan move to Newcastle, a success

Newcastle have completed the signing of Valentino Lazaro on loan from Inter, with an option to buy at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old has found opportunities hard to come by under Antonio Conte this season, making just four appearances in Serie A after moving to Milan from Hertha BSC last summer.

But it’s the north east of England where he’ll be based for the next five months, with Newcastle confirming in an announcement on their official website that a deal has been done for Lazaro to join the club on loan.

A club statement said: “Newcastle United are pleased to confirm the signing of Austria international Valentino Lazaro on loan for the remainder of the current season.”

Lazaro added: “I’m very happy to be here and can’t wait to meet all my teammates, get out on the training pitch and hopefully get a lot of victories in the future.

“I’ve only heard great things about the club. I’ve had good talks with the coach so I feel very happy to be here now. Those conversations convinced me that this is the right place for me to come.”

Head coach Steve Bruce said: “Valentino is a quality player who’ll add to us in attacking areas of the field, where we need to improve. He can play in a few positions but he is a natural winger with an excellent delivery.

“We have worked hard to get him ahead of other clubs, so I’m delighted with what we’ve done. Along with Nabil Bentaleb, he’ll give us strong options.”

The option to buy is thought to be around the €23.5m mark, with the loan costing Newcastle €1.5m.

The former Red Bull Salzburg midfielder, who primarily operates on the right hand side, will provide much needed additional cover for Steve Bruce’s Magpies, with a host of injury problems depleting his squad over the course of the season.

Valentino Lazaro

Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett are out for the remainder of the season, while Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton are among a number of players who have been carrying knocks over the past few weeks.

Despite that, Newcastle have performed admirably throughout the campaign, defying pre-season expectations to sit comfortably in mid-table after putting together a string of impressive results.
