This season Suarez has scored 19 goals and provided 12 assists in 34 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions.

Inter Miami’s need for new recruits has been highlighted by their woeful start to their MLS campaign – they are languishing at the bottom of the Eastern Conference having lost all five of their games so far.

Although Suarez will be 34 years old by the time his current Barcelona deal expires, he could still have a lot to offer in MLS.

For now Suarez is focused on Barcelona, who are preparing for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash against Napoli, with the sides having drew 1-1 in Italy in the first leg.

Messi needs the best Griezmann and Suarez to win UCL

If Barcelona have aspirations of winning the Champions League this season, they need their attacking trident of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann to be at their absolute best.

An effective front three is something that has been lacking at Barcelona this season, with two different coaches trying to find the right formula and only succeeding on a few occasions.

Quique Setien opted for a 4-4-2 formation against Villarreal towards the end of the season, with Suarez and Griezmann up top and Messi just behind them and this was successful, but if they can’t consistently perform like they did that day then Champions League glory will be impossible.

Although he once again won the Pichichi, Messi has scored fewer goals this season and the team have dropped points in games where they wouldn’t be expected to.

The team has netted less than they usually do, even if they finished with the highest goal tally in the league.

Between injury and the coronavirus break, Suarez hasn’t been able to play consistently enough and has had his poorest season in a Barcelona shirt to date, scoring only 19, but the club are hoping to have him at his best for the Champions League.

However, the Uruguayan has gone almost five years without scoring away from home in Europe, which has meant responsibility has fallen almost entirely on the shoulders of Messi.

Relying so heavily on Messi has been a big problem for the Blaugrana because it has meant that when the Argentine isn’t quite at his best then Barcelona struggle.

Although Griezmann is injured at the moment, he is expected to be fit for the clash against Napoli on August 8.

The Frenchman hasn’t played consistently this year and has often been played out of position, which has had an effect of his performance, but he has the talent and could make a difference when Champions League football returns.

Chiellini claims he admires Suarez since the day he bite him

Giorgio Chiellini wrote about Uruguay international Luis Suarez biting him on the shoulder. ‘I admire him. I too am a son of a b***h on the field and proud of it.’

The Juventus and Italy defender releases his autobiography this month and covers numerous subjects throughout his career, including the infamous bite during the 2014 World Cup.

“The truth is, I admire his mischief, because if Suarez were to lose that, he would become an average player,” wrote Chiellini.

“Nothing strange happened that day in the 2014 World Cup. I marked Edinson Cavani for most of the game, another complicated guy to keep up with, and we held nothing back.

“Suddenly, I realised I’d been bitten on the shoulder. It happened, that’s all there is to it, but that is his strategy when fighting with body-to-body contact and, if I may say, it’s mine too.

“Suarez and I are similar and I like facing strikers like him. I called him a couple of days after the game, but he had no need to apologise to me. I too am a son of a b***h on the field and proud of it.

“Mischief and a little bit of malice are part of the game, I wouldn’t call that cheating. You need to be intelligent to overcome your rival.”

MLS Awaits LUIs Suarez

The coronavirus pandemic is taking its toll on the finances of football clubs across Europe, including Barcelona.

With LaLiga Santander suspended and the remainder of the season set to be played behind closed doors, the Catalan side need to generate new sources of income.

One of those sources could be player sales and, as a result, there is plenty of interest in their players, with Luis Suarez on the radar of plenty of MLS clubs.

American interest in the Uruguayan striker is nothing new. Inter Miami owner David Beckham has revealed plenty of times that he’d love to have the forward in Florida.

“You never know. I have a contract at Barcelona but, in the future, it’s an attractive league. The United States is a nice option,” Suarez said a few months ago.

For the moment, however, it doesn’t seem like Suarez is itching for a move and believes his time at Barcelona isn’t over.

Pros and cons
Although the club would be willing to listen to offers for the 33-year-old, the coaches still see him as an important player amongst the squad.

Suarez has scored 14 goals in 23 games this season but, at the same time, the coaching staff are aware of his age, his injury record and his big wages.

If the former Liverpool forward was to leave the Camp Nou, it wouldn’t be a massive loss seeing as Barcelona are looking to strengthen their attack in the upcoming transfer window anyway, with Neymar and Lautaro Martinez transfer targets.

However, those at the club are concerned that any possible departure of Suarez could affect Messi’s happiness at the club, seeing as the pair are close friends and teammates.

Two more years
Suarez’s contract at Barcelona runs until 2021 and there’s also the option to extend that deal for another year if he plays 60 percent of the club’s games next season.

Barcelona don’t think that the Uruguay international will leave just yet because it will be difficult to find a club willing to pay his wages.

But the MLS is still dreaming of adding Suarez to its list of star forwards like Javier Hernandez and Carlos Vela one day.
