Koulibaly wants to join Mancity for any Better amount

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is reportedly joining Manchester City this summer in a £72m (€80m) deal, after turning down interest from Newcastle United.

Kouliably is one of Europe’s most sought-after centre backs, after six impressive years in Naples and despite interest from PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid too, the 29-year-old looks set to join the Premier League.

Newcastle, who could soon be under fresh ownership involving the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, are also courting the Senegal international but the lure of working with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad has made Koulibaly’s mind up, according to Italian outlet Il Mattino.

The report details that the Napoli defender will be sold by chairman Auerlio De Laurentiis in order to keep the club’s finances in check and fund new signings.

The price is around €80m (£72m) for Koulibaly, who starred as Napoli won the Coppa Italia last week after beating Juventus on penalties, and he will reportedly sign a five-year deal at the Etihad.

A separate report in Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo explains that the defender has also rejected interest from Ligue 1 in Paris Saint-Germain, and LaLiga in Spanish heavyweights Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Guardiola is the lure for the Senegalese, over other English options which reportedly include Liverpool and Manchester United, as well as the Magpies.

This season, the Napoli vice-captain has made 24 appearances in all competitions, after missing action in January due to a bicep injury.

He has been at the Stadio San Paolo for six years, after joining from Metz in 2014 for just £6.5m.

Koulibaly will face competition at City for a centre back spot, alongside Aymeric Laporte, Fernandinho, Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones.

City, meanwhile, relinquished their Premier League crown on Thursday night, after a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea means Liverpool have an unassailable lead at the top of the table with seven games to go.

Liverpool offers €60m for Koulibaly

Advertisements

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool are offering €60m for Kalidou Koulibaly, but that’s a long way off Napoli’s €100m asking price.

The centre-back has been repeatedly linked with a move away from the Stadio San Paolo this summer, although the Partenopei have no intention of lowering his transfer valuation.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain were strong contenders, but Liverpool are now stepping up the pressure, as they want to form a sensational partnership with Virgil van Dijk.

The Corriere dello Sport suggests Jurgen Klopp’s men are making an offer worth €60m.

Considering Napoli want a minimum of €100m for the Senegal international, negotiations cannot even begin with such a big gap.

It was Koulibaly’s 29th birthday yesterday, so he celebrated with the entire Napoli squad and their families at a huge party.

Social media pictures and videos showed the group dancing away with a guest of honour: the Coppa Italia trophy, won against Juventus on penalties earlier this week.

‘Chelsea must Prioritise Koulibaly’ – Frank Leboeuf

Advertisements

Having put a deal in place for Timo Werner, Chelsea have been urged to rival Liverpool for another reported transfer target, with Frank Leboeuf saying Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly would “fit very well” at Stamford Bridge.

Advertisements

After two windows of no activity, with a transfer ban keeping their hands tied, the Blues are very much back in the market for top talent.

Hakim Ziyech was the first to be targeted, as Frank Lampard swooped to snap up the Morocco international winger from Ajax. A £54 million (€60m/$68m) move has now been made for RB Leipzig striker Werner, with other Premier League suitors fended off in order to close on the highly rated Germany international.

With the final third have been focused on so far, it may be that attention now shifts towards defensive matters. If that does prove to be the case, then Leboeuf feels Chelsea need to be adding Senegal international Koulibaly to their wish list.

Liverpool may be faced once again in that hunt, with the Reds another of those said to be keen on the commanding centre-half, but Roman Abramovich is making the funds available that allow those in west London to be competitive on the recruitment front.

Discussing potential clubs for Koulibaly with ESPN FC, former Chelsea defender Leboeuf said: “I will never ask him to go to Manchester United for many reasons.

“I want him to win some stuff and I think Manchester United is not the club that they used to be and they’re not ready to win stuff.

“I think Liverpool would be a good fit with [Virgil] van Dijk, that would be fantastic. Paris Saint-Germain as well with Marquinhos, there would be two great central defenders.

“I think Chelsea will need a player like that. I don’t know if Koulibaly will be interested, but even if they have two very good central defenders, Koulibaly I think belongs to another level and would fit very well.

“I know he has a link with Liverpool, Van Dijk and Koulibaly at the back – my God, that’s going to be another Red season I guess.

“You have to make a choice at certain points. The question was ‘what is the best fit for Koulibaly?’ and definitely with Van Dijk, and when you’re a defender like Koulibaly, that would be the best central defence in the world.”

Man Utd tables €80 for Koulibaly

Manchester United are offering €80m for Kalidou Koulibaly, claim Sky Sport Italia, but Napoli are holding out for at least €100m.

The defender is also a known transfer target for Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, with suggestions in the French media this week that he’d prefer PSG to either Premier League side.

According to Sky Sport Italia this evening, Manchester United have put forward a proposal worth €80m for the Senegal international.

However, the Partenopei want at least €100m in order to let the centre-back leave.

This is already a significant drop from last year, when Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis boasted he had turned down a bid worth €120m for Koulibaly.

It was widely reported this had originated from the Old Trafford side.

PSG ends talks with Koulibaly leaving Man utd without Rival

Manchester United have been given a clear path to sign Kalidou Koulibaly after PSG reportedly gave up on their pursuit of the centre back.

The Senegalese defender has been in huge demand recently and he is expected to leave the Stadio San Paolo this summer after impressing consistently through the years at Napoli.

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool and Co have all been linked with Koulibaly but both United and PSG were always front-runners for his signature.

But according to French newspaper Le Parisien, PSG have now pulled out of the race for Koulibaly this summer as they believe Napoli’s asking price of £63million is too excessive.

This therefore has given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a free run at signing Koulibaly in the upcoming market.

Koulibaly has become one of the most sought after defenders in world football in recent years after shining in Serie A.

Since joining in 2014 from Belgian outfit Genk, he has been a virtual ever-present in the Naples outfit’s backline.

His arrival saw Napoli finish fifth in Serie A during the 2014-15 season but since then they’ve finished runners-up three times (2015-16, 2017-18 and 2018-19) and third once (2016-17).

Koulibaly, who has played 233 times overall for Napoli, has it all – he allies his physical dominance and speed with his composure on the ball.

See Which Teams Koulibaly would Prefer To Leave Napoli For

Advertisements

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has been targeted by Tottenham and Everton, but the Senegal international will reportedly wait for Europe’s giants.

Advertisements

The Partenopei patron Aurelio De Laurentiis wants €100m for the 28-year-old but might have to lower the asking price as the centre-half seems set on leaving the San Paolo.

Teams from the Premier League are reportedly starting to knock on the door and the Toffees coach Carlo Ancelotti has been linked with a reunion at Goodison Park in recent months.

Tottenham have also been reported with an interest, as well as links to Newcastle, should the Saudi takeover at St James’ Park go through.

But Calciomercato.com claims Kouilbaly will only be ready to leave Napoli if one of the biggest clubs in Europe, mentioning Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Real Madrid as possible suitors to tempt the player to move this summer.

Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool would “wrap title up right there” with Kalidou Koulibaly

Advertisements

Liverpool would be an unstoppable proposition if they signed Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, according to the club’s former midfielder Don Hutchison.

Advertisements

While the top of the table Reds wait to be allowed to resume their Premier League title quest, there would appear to be little thought of any summer transfers at Anfield given the financial complications surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

But despite that, and indeed the form of Joe Gomez, Hutchison has urged his former club to enter the market for Sadio Mane’s Senegal international teammate Koulibaly, who could leave Napoli this summer.

“I think if Koulibaly comes through the door and he plays alongside Virgil van Dijk, I think you wrap the title up right there,” Hutchison, who spent four years at Liverpool between 1990 and 1994, told ESPN FC.

“I don’t think there’s anyone better, there won’t be another partnership like it.

Advertisements

“The best defenders out there in Europe apart from the Premier League at the moment is Milan Skriniar at Inter [Milan], my gut feeling is he’s going to join Pep [Guardiola] at Man City, and alongside him is Koulibaly.

“I think at 28 he’s a great age, he’s got good pace, he’s strong, he’s a leader.

“I think he walks straight into Liverpool’s line up and he makes them harder to beat, he makes them a physical presence.

Advertisements

“You wouldn’t want to play against Van Dijk or Koulibaly – how on earth as a striker as a striker do you even think about getting any joy out of those two?

“I think if you’re going to win titles and you want to try and adapt, Liverpool have to be harder to beat.

“You have to go into Europe and you have to have people like Koulibaly who can lead you in Europe.

Advertisements

“You can try and go that way when games are tight if you want a clean sheet, Koulibaly and Van Dijk, [Andy] Robertson and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] would be nigh-on impossible to break down, Alisson behind them.

“And it would just put fear I would imagine into every manager and every player that lines up against Liverpool trying to come up with a game plan of how you’re actually going to score goals, what is Liverpool’s weakness going to be?

“And with Koulibaly and Van Dijk and Alisson as that sort of triangle, that three, they would take some beating.”

Manchester United prepares £90m Bid For Koulibaly

We’re not even two days removed from the closure of the January transfer window, and Manchester United are already once again being linked with a move for Napoli star defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The 28-year-old has been one of the ‘go-to’ names for United transfer speculation in recent seasons and was among those touted in the summer months before the club broke the bank to land Harry Maguire.

United’s focus in January lay in adding goals and creativity to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, as they landed Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes and former Watford striker Odion Ighalo.

Odion Ighalo,Stephan El Shaarawy
However, United’s continued defensive shortcomings have raised a concern or two of late, leading to plenty of speculation over how they could strengthen their ranks at the back when the window reopens.

Naturally, then, Koulibaly’s name has once again come up. The Mirror this time run with an ‘exclusive’ claiming United have made him their main target ahead of the summer, and are prepared to outlay the vague ‘best part of £90m’ to secure his services.

The bets are of course hedged, with Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid all credited with interest. It’s also said that Champions League football is likely to prove a deciding factor – something United are still in the running for, although sit six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea after drawing 0-0 with Wolves.

It should be noted that United do have a seemingly established first-choice pairing of Maguire and Victor Lindelof, with Eric Bailly having recently extended his stay at the club and the likes of Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe in reserve.

James Milner,Kalidou Koulibaly

All that in mind, it seems unlikely United will spend another huge fee on a central defender (one who will turn 29 this summer) unless there are significant outgoings, and even more still that they are already planning to do so less than 48 hours removed from the closure of the January window.

French-born Koulibaly too – who has previously spoken of his strong connections with the city of Naples – may be inclined to hold out for a club who can guarantee him top-level European football and match his trophy aspirations, if he were to leave his home of six years.

Perhaps best taking this one with a grain of salt for now.
