Eye witness alleged that four persons that were arrested during the operation are members of the IPOB group.

Men of the Nigerian security forces have uncovered a hide out where arms are stored at Effium in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

A source told newsmen that a combined team of security personnel stormed the arsenal location.

Members of the Department executed the operation for State Security, DSS, and the Nigerian Army.

Several items were recovered which include, AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, one pump action rifle, one double barrel Dane gun, five single barrel Dane of guns, two locally produced pistols, and one locally manufactured pistol.

Security operatives found up to 600 different kinds of ammunition, including those for General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG).

The suspects that were arrested during the operation have been detained for interrogation and prosecution.

Residents of the area speculate that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and those sponsoring the Ezza-Effium crisis own the arsenal.

Eye witness alleged that four persons that were arrested during the operation are members of the IPOB group.

They also informed newsmen that the shrine serves as a protective camp for IPOB, and others have also be discovered.

The spokesman of DSS, Peter Afunanya, did not make any comment on the operation.

He explains that it’s okay for the DSS to work with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.

Afunanya assures Nigerians that the DSS would keep and maintain internal security in Nigeria.

David Umahi blames IPOB after Herdsmen houses got burnt in South West.

Advertisements

What is demanded of the leaders is to put up programs that favour the people and foster national unity.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State on Monday said videos making the round on social media purporting that members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were responsible for burning of houses belonging to herdsmen were not the handiwork of the separatist movement.

According to Umahi, communities, rather IPOB were responsible for the acts.

Advertisements

The governor who also disclosed that South-East governors had earlier banned open grazing and movement of cows on foot in the zone, stated this in Abakaliki on Monday during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) membership registration committee.

While warning against politicization of security matters, the governor called on leaders of the South-East geopolitical zone to create a framework that will secure the lives and properties of the people.

Umahi, who is the Chairman of the Southeast Governors’ Forum said:

“The governors of the southeast had banned not only open grazing, but we have also banned the movement of cows by foot into the southeast.

Advertisements

“In each of the five states of the southeast, we are managing ourselves very well. We have also stopped the movement of cows across communities.

“What we discussed in the southeast with the herdsmen, with the farmers is the method that has been in place for a long time before now.

“What our people must know is that security is not political, what is demanded of the leaders is to put up programs that favour the people and foster national unity.

“There is a new dimension that is taking place in the southeast which is very dangerous.

Advertisements

It is when the communities use the name of IPOB, the video and upload it to the social media and say it is IPOB that is burning the houses of herdsmen.

“It is not IPOB, it is the communities that are doing this and this is very dangerous for the Igbo man. I am talking to us as leaders.”

Why IPOB is ‘a system set for the destruction’ of Nigeria – Sen Magnus Abe

Advertisements

He also revealed that enquiries are currently ongoing to unmask the real situation in the Rivers community.

Senator Magnus Abe has weighed in on the Oyigbo crisis which rocked Rivers state few weeks ago.

The Rivers-born politician who spoke in an interview on Arise News, stated that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is an organization committed to destruction.

He stressed that it should be related to as an organization and not as an Igbo problem.

Abe maintained that IPOB is an organization with a ”terrorist orientation” of pulling the federal republic of Nigeria apart just like Boko Haram.

Abe further disclosed that a policeman who was formerly attached to his security team, was attacked during the crisis simply because he is a police officer. He added that while the policeman’s house was burnt, his neighbour was burnt alive.

Breaking: Wike blows hot at IPOB members. [See Why]

Advertisements

The governor added that it was the highest form of sacrilege and vowed that he will never tolerate that kind of action under his watch.

The last few days have been a hellish experience for residents of a residential area in Port Harcourt, Oyigbo otherwise known as Obigbo to some other Rivers state residents.

The chaos started during the endSARS protest where some northern traders had clashed with some alleged members of the outlawed IPOB and that triggered a series of mayhem that saw to the deaths of some Nigerian army personnel and the burning down of some police stations.

Advertisements

Gov Wike irked by the development had invited the military to undertake a restoration of law and order in the area but according to some residents, the army has allegedly turned out to be on a revenge mission as residents are reportedly hunted and killed in their homes.

There has been widespread condemnation of the action which many see as a direct command from the governor and many have called him to put an end to the killings.

In a video as seen on Twitter, the visibly angry governor can be seen daring any IPOB member to start trouble again, He wondered why IPOB would dream of hoisting their flag under his watch. He compared them to the Boko haram insurgents and said it was intolerable for them to hoist any flags under his watch.

He went ahead to mention that the position of governor has indeed, made him forget some things and that whatever the IPOB members think they have, he also has it.

Advertisements

He added that he has been receiving text messages threatening him that he will be dealt with if he is seen outside the country. He challenged them that he is not Ekweremadu or those politicians that have been disgraced outside the country.

He challenged them to try their worst on him.

The governor who before his election was known as ‘High Tension’ because of his dogged stance on some political issues is well feared in the state as he seems not to be afraid of anything and for a while, has been the number one critic of the SARS unit of the Nigerian police force before it was eventually scrapped.

As of the time of the report, the 24-hour curfew in the oyigbo area of port Harcourt is still very much in force

IPOB seeks referendum on Biafra?

Advertisements

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) claimed on Tuesday that it is currently discussing with the United Nations (UN) on holding a referendum for a sovereign state of Biafra.

The group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, stated this in a statement, adding that efforts were on to hold the referendum any moment soon.

Powerful, who promised that the exercise would be peaceful, said everybody resident within Biafra territory would vote according to their conscience.

He said: “It is quite clear and understandable to every citizen of Biafra and indeed the entire world that we need a referendum, where the people will exercise their right on whether or not they want self-rule or continued existence within Nigeria.

Advertisements

“A UN-supervised referendum is a must and a right for every human being in Nigeria to unequivocally state where they wish to belong.

“We in IPOB and Biafrans in general expect the United Nations to supervise this referendum, which will enable even those living beyond the boundaries of Biafra to equally determine their own fate. We want freedom for all, not just for Biafrans alone.”

Nnamdi Kanu

“IPOB is making frantic efforts to ensure that this happens in the shortest possible time. We are not going to force or intimidate anyone or tribe because the will of the people is sacrosanct and must be respected. Each individual will be allowed to decide where he or she wishes to belong.”

Before Restructuring, Beyond Biafra – By Ohanaeze Ndigbo

Advertisements

In the piece, Coronavirus: The Nigerian Dream Cure, I wrote that the COVID-19, which “compelled people to stay within their nations and localities, illuminates the genius of the ageless adage: charity begins at home.” The lessons from the virus also strike a chord with the famous quotation: the “fierce urgency of now”, where Martin Luther King demanded action in the face of a looming catastrophe.

Nowhere are these maxims more expedient than Igboland. Despite the dearth of development in Eastern Nigeria, which has continued to pose existential threats, the Eastern leaders have made no serious attempt to harness current resources for the greater good. Instead, the Igbo politics has been overly consumed with mundane excuses, heightened with utopian ideas that focus solely on the future, most of which are envisaged to satiate the thirsty sentiments of the gullible masses, forgetting that the people must first survive before they can prevail.

An alarming reminder is the deplorable state of healthcare delivery in Igboland. For instance, before the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no hospital with a laboratory capable of testing for such deadly disease in the entire Eastern Nigeria. The plague also exposed the fact that the East, more than any other region, would have been in grave danger, if the COVI9-19 national lock-down had prolonged.

The common excuse for the lack of development in Igboland in the recent times is the structure of the country. Interestingly, the loudest echo chambers for the current campaign from the East are some of the very politicians who held sway during the 16-year rule under the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) but did practically nothing about restructuring. I mean, the very same cabal who are still clad in the same corrupt toga used in colluding with contractors to loot development facilities in the region, especially during the economic boom under Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, “an Igbo adopted son.”

Ironically, some of such looted projects, for example, the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Port Harcourt International Airport, 2nd River Niger Bridge, Zik Mausoleum, and the major Eastern highways and seaports are currently undergoing real work under President Muhammadu Buhari, the perceived grinch. The malfeasance under the PDP becomes more manifest when considered that the East is witnessing measurable infrastructural development under the current regime, despite meagre resources—and, of course, amid Buhari’s misguided vendetta against the region for not voting him.

Advertisements

Highlighting these missed opportunities must not be misconstrued as an opposition to restructuring. Far from that! Nigeria, as currently structured, is a time-bomb. True federalism has the potential to reposition the country and unleash her abundant resources to greatness, but the process to the change must not hinder progress. It is also true that the ageless marginalization of the Igbo by federal authorities combined to stifle development opportunities in the East. But any innocent analysis equally begs the questions:

To what extent can we blame others for the lack of unity of purpose in Igboland? To what extent can we blame others for the failure to articulate game-changing policies to confront the tap root of the problem, by provoking the Igbo people to invest in their native land that is not even up to 30% developed? Worse still, who (or what structure) is to blame for running aground strategic ventures once jointly owned by the Igbo states, for example, the Presidential Hotel Enugu, Nigercem, Golden Guinea Brewery, Premier Brewery, Cooperative Bank, African Continental Bank, Orient Bank, Progressive Bank, and the Daily Star, to name just a few?

The simple answer is that mere change is not a sole panacea to progress. After all, it was not long ago that different groups within Nigeria, including those in Igbo land, were in wild jubilation for being granted their own states or local government areas. Despite the fact that all federal statutory allocations and constituency projects due to the states and local governments, as well as their internally generated revenues, have been under the control of the native politicians themselves, there are no tangible projects to show for the trillions.

Leadership is action, not excuses. The Igbo politicians should, therefore, not wait till after the restructure of Nigeria before embarking on an economic a dry-run in the remote semblance of the preferred structure—at least to stem the existential threat of mass unemployment and the consequential rising tide of crimes in the region. Governors Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo and Sam Onunaka Mbakwe did not hide behind quotidian excuses of the current structure before performing wonders within just 4 years in the Second Republic. Moreover, the Nnewi model has since rubbished the common excuse that the Igbo must have a functional seaport before it can thrive. This goes without saying that many thriving Igbo destinations, for example, Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano do not have seaports.

Advertisements

The apparent leadership problem within Igboland is neither lack of people with original visions nor hard work. In fact, there is an abundance of private sector-driven templates, featuring endearing ideas, the latest being the South East Regional Economic Development Company (SEREDEC), led by Barth Nnaji; and the South East Stabilization Fund, championed by the Ohaneze Ndigbo. Sadly, such visions are always derailed by an insecure Igbo political cabal.

That is where and why the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) made the title of this thesis. For sure, the IPOB deserves profound praise for finally recognizing that the real enemies are within. But the group should equally recognize that the real battle belongs at the polling booths. Therefore, instead of banal threats of election boycotts, which only serve to disfranchise the ordinary people, the IPOB should key into a growing democratic revolution to uproot the status quo across Nigeria—to ensure, at base, that good people are elected to positions of power. These political positions, of course, include the 2023 presidency which, by equitable consensus, is the turn of the South-East zone.

Further, development has never been the sole province of elected officials. Thus, instead of fraternizing with the fanatical property acquisitions outside the Biafra land by the Igbo, paraded under the façade of quasi-republican capitalism, the IPOB might as well capitalize on its overflowing influence to mitigate the suffering of its masses, by leading an investment revolution at home—and NOW.

The gist is woven in an Igbo adage which holds that a child who would grow to greatness typically shows some sense of acumen at an early stage. Therefore, before restructure, and beyond Biafra; even as it is vitally important to admit that the Nigerian leadership crisis is not devoid of ethnic schisms, where each group and generation potently share blame, a paradigm shift in perception and approach has become very imperative. The Igbo must recognize the crying need to persevere and rekindle the competitive spirit, ingenuity, and the mental fortitude needed to unleash immediate investment at home, so that the Igbo masses can even survive before the promised land.

Top Story: FG expose Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB.

Advertisements

The Nigerian Presidency has alerted the international community to the misleading campaign spearheaded by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), using false allegations of persecution of Christians against the Nigerian State.

The Presidency, according to statement issued by Malam Garba Shehu said it has uncovered two, interconnected campaigns being run concurrently by the IPOB in this regard.

Government said it became aware of the campaigns via an investigation by one of its agencies working with international partners.

“Both (campaigns) are using the cover of Christianity – and calling for a US Special Envoy to be appointed to stop the “genocide” of Christians in Nigeria.

Advertisements

“But the real purpose is to drive a wedge between the Nigeria government and its US and UK/European allies”, the government said..

“IPOB leadership of course self-proclaims as “Jewish,” a position not shared by the generality of the members.

Advertisements

“For reasons of convenience, he(Nnamdi Kanu) claims to have an interest in the welfare of Christians – but this is a ruse: the case for independence, the leader believes, is strengthened by “proving” the government of Nigeria is “autocratic”, engaged in a “silent slaughter” of their own citizens along religion and ethnic lines – and that therefore the only viable option for the unique religious and ethnic minority is a sovereign Biafra separate from Nigeria.

“Nigerians and the international community are advised to be wary of this divisive campaign, which available evidence shows is being funded with a monthly spending of $85,000 USD since October 2019, with no records of the source of this largesse.

Advertisements

“The campaign consists of producing articles in the names of the alleged Christian NGOs’ leaders (of campaign groups created at the time this PR contract with a US lobbying firm was signed) and letters to and from members of Congress to the White House.

“Unfortunately, some Members of Congress have clearly been persuaded there is indeed a “Christian persecution” underway in Nigeria – and do so quoting the campaign – and they are known to be taking up the case directly with the White House to appoint the special envoy.

Advertisements

“The American charity secured a meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and has made presentations to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom.

“There is also a UK and European angle of the Campaign, which is more opaque than its US sister campaign – given there is less legal requirement for public filings – but what is known of this at the moment is that their Budget is sufficient to hire four PR firms in the UK, Belgium, France and the US (the latter additional to the above).

Advertisements

“They have founded an “NGO/Charity” and a linked web-based campaign named “Stop the Silent Slaughter” which is well designed and complete with video “evidence”-completely concocted.

“Members of the alleged Christian NGO have had multiple Op-Ed articles in conservative news websites promulgating their message of a “Christian Genocide”. Some of those articles have also been used as “evidence” in the sister US campaign.

Advertisements

“Two of those conservative news websites were co-founded by the owner of the UK PR firm they have hired to generate their publicity as well as an OP-Ed article in the name of a British MP who may have been convinced by their campaign under false pretences.

“They have secured additional coverage in France, EU and Germany.

Advertisements

“They secured a MPs debate on the “Christian Genocide” in the House of Commons in which staff member of the UK PR was referenced as the “private secretary” to the leader of the UK-based Charity.

“It is clear from all of the above that the IPOB’s extraordinarily and dubiously well-funded campaign in the US and UK/Europe is misusing the issue of the welfare of Christians purely to further their own political ends, and it seeks to damage inter-religious dialogue in Nigeria as well as to damage the international reputation of Nigeria.

Advertisements

“Nigerians and the international community are hereby advised to ignore this campaign as they have disregarded similar past campaigns originated by this group which has been designated as a terrorist organisation by the Nigerian State.

“International groups and societies are welcome to send representatives to Nigeria and give a lie to the false claims made by these terrorist groups who are duping them of their money and involving them in conduct and activities disguised to destroy the harmonious relationships existing between their home countries and Nigeria.”

Just in: Aisha Buhari Chase Garba Shehu Out Of Aso Rock – Kanu Allege. [Nigeria]

Advertisements

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has claimed that First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has chased Garba Shehu, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity out of Aso Rock.

In a similar claim, Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan had said Garba Shehu was not briefed about the appointment of a new Chief of Staff because he is now perceived as the head of the late Kyari’s ‘Cabal’ and has now become an enemy to Buhari’s wife, Aisha.

Recall that when Media contacted Shehu to confirm the appointment of Ibrahim Gambari, on Tuesday, he said he had not been briefed about the appointment.

Aisha Buhari had late last year claimed that Garba Shehu was no longer loyal to her husband, adding that the presidential aide had shifted his loyalty to a close relative of Buhari, Mamman Daura, who she accused of issuing a presidential directive behind the President.

Advertisements

Aisha had alleged that Daura was issuing directives to Garba Shehu, not to recognize her office.

Amid reports that President Muhammadu Buhari will announce his new Chief of Staff later today(Wednesday), Kanu said that Aisha has already chased Shehu out of the Presidential Villa and this now compels him to wear visitor’s tag.

“Now she is the Boss! Garba Shehu chased out of The Villa and made to wear visitor’s tag when visiting,” Kanu said on Facebook.

“Nigerians- sorry UTPs, I give you your newest unelected ruler, Her Excellency, Madam President Aisha Buhari.

“She succeeded the late and equally unelected ‘President’ Abba Kyari. Jubril Al-Sudani the poster boy is in hiding. #AsoRockIsEmpty. After COVID-19, to your tents O’Israel.”

Lockdown: IPOB to distribute more foodstuff in S’East and S’South

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the arrival of the second batch of its palliative to be distributed to the people of South East and South South zones of the country.

According to a press statement by the media and publicity secretary of the group, Emma Powerful, the palliative comprising foodstuff was received in Umuahia, residence of the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. The distribution had also commenced at the weekend according to Powerful.

He also disclosed that a third batch will reach Anambra soon.

He said: “The second batch has arrived; the third batch will be delivered direct to a location in Anambra. Distribution to homes and families started yesterday and will continue until all vulnerable families are fed.

“I am not under any illusion that this is a very tiny drop in a mighty ocean but with the help of numerous Biafran philanthropists, few conscientious politicians and grace of God, Biafrans shall come through this hunger and pestilence stronger as a people and more united as a nation.

“We must be guided by our creed at all times and remember that our ability to defend those who cannot defend themselves is what makes IPOB unique,” Kanu stated.

Kanu recalled that IPOB earlier had distributed over 300 bags of rice and other materials to senatorial zones and some council areas in the South East and South South.

The match by Kanu and members of IPOB will take place on the 20th of March in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

The Separatist group also explained that the match would help liberate victims of “neo-colonial subjugation in Nigeria.”

According to the statement: “We the global and indomitable family of Indigenous Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to humbly notify Biafrans, friends of Biafra, persecuted Judeo-Christian communities in Nigeria, victims of Fulani terrorism and state-sponsored genocide, including all who are reeling from brutal Fulanisation and genocidal land grabbing tendencies of the vandals from the Sahel aided by the regime in Aso Rock- about the upcoming IPOB One Million Man Match scheduled to hold in Washington DC on 20th of June 2020.

“Our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his entourage will lead this march of Biafrans, the forcefully dispossessed, all victims of Fulani religious persecution, the enslaved and oppressed minorities in Northern Nigeria, friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom all over the world on the match towards the liberation of victims of neo-colonial subjugation in Nigeria on that fateful day near Capitol Hill Washington USA.

“We are delighted to announce that we have sought and have been granted relevant permits by the various US state and federal law enforcement agencies in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia as millions of Biafrans and non-Biafran persecuted Christian communities from across the globe are expected to storm Washington DC for this once in a lifetime march to draw global attention to the unspeakable human misery and rivers of blood flowing throughout Biafraland and Nigeria at large.”

Feb’14: Kanu didn’t attend parent’s funeral; accused police of arresting IPOB members

Although IPOB members didn’t show up at the ceremony in their uniform, they praised Kanu and chanted pro-Biafra songs.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has accused Nigerian police and soldiers of arresting members of the group heading to his parents burial on Friday, February 14, 2020.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Kanu said the mourners were accosted on their way to the burial and intercepted in three coaster buses on Enugu-Port-Harcourt expressway.

Earlier, the Abia State Police Command had warned IPOB members against attending the burial, but members of the group defied the police order on Friday, as many of them attended the burial ceremony in Afaraukwu.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Ene Okon, had warned that the police would not allow miscreants disguising as IPOB members to hijack the burial, adding that the group members won’t be allowed to display Biafran flag and other insignia.

Kanu’s parents, Israel Kanu and wife, Sally, were laid to rest at Isiama Afaraukwu in the Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state.

According to Punch, riot police and other security agents closely monitored the burial process.

Although IPOB members didn’t show up at the ceremony in their uniform, they praised Kanu and chanted pro-Biafra songs.

A member of the group, identified as Maduka Okeke, who spoke to Punch said no amount of threat could stop them from paying their last respect to Kanu’s parents by attending their burial.

He said, “We didn’t come in our uniforms because we are mourning and in the Igbo culture we have a dress code for burials.”

Kanu’s father, died at 85 while his wife, Sally, died at 67.

The former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi; Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and Senator Victor Umeh were among the dignitaries that attended the burial ceremony.

Stay away from your parent’s funeral – Imeobi tells Kanu

Nnamdi Kanu has been warned by an Igbo socio-political organization, Imeobi Igbo Forum, on Monday, to stay away from his parents’ burial.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was given the advise in order to avoid any confrontation with the government.

His Royal Highness, HRH, late Eze Israel Okwu Kanu of Afaraukwu community, Umuahia, in Abia State and wife, late Ugoeze Sally Nmeme Okwu Kanu, parents of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, would be buried on 14th February, 2020.

Addressing newsmen in Onitsha, Anambra state, the National chairman of the group, Chief Mike Ikegulu-Onugha, said “Left for me, the government of the federation should allow him to come and bury his parents. I wish he will come and bury his parents the way I did mine.

“However, rather than come and get involved in all sorts of legal matters and military stuff as well as other issues, it is better for him to keep off,” he noted.

He urged the federal government to forgive “a freedom fighter who is asking for a democratic/judicial means of independence”.

“In all struggles, stories like these come up. These are stories that will be told better in life. His parents died in the struggle, let us not mince words about it. The struggle has taken toll on them” he stated.

CP Okon seeking promotion over plotting to arrest Kanu – IPOB claims

…Nnamdi kanu warns CP Okon, Buratai against any casualty

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has decried the “threats” and “utterances” against the group by the Abia state Commissioner of Police, Ene Okon, in regard to the slated burial of Nnamdi Kanu’s parents, saying that the police chief is taking advantage of the situation to advance his career.

The publicity secretary of the Igbo separatist group, Emma Powerful, made the claim in a statement he made available to reporters in Owerri.

According to Powerful, “It is now crystal clear to the general public that this caliphate servant in Nigeria Police uniform named CP Okon supposedly in charge of Abia Police Command in Umuahia Abia state wants to use the name of our most revered leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and indomitable IPOB worldwide to be noticed as the Fulani slave of the month.

“Last month it was Hope Uzodinma in Imo state, this month it is the turn of Abia in the person of this Mr Okon. He is given to making these irrelevant statements in order to advance his unremarkable career as the obedient servant of the caliphate the same way other equally misguided slaves in his position did before him. He and his masters in Arewa arid lands of the North should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for threatening people attending a funeral service.

“CP Okon is expecting his slave masters to reward him the rank of AIG after the burial of our leader’s parents which we can assure him he will never get,” Powerful stated.

The group’s spokesman maintained that the supposed abuses by security agencies on Kanu’s home town “can only obtain in Biafraland where socio-cultural and political leadership are in the hands of unrepentant traitors.

“Will a commissioner of police make such a ridiculous statement in the Sharia north. Not even during the burial ceremony of countless murderous Fulani terrorists in the north did any police commissioner find it worthy to warn mourners not to attend a funeral service.”

He continued: “In the sad history of Nigeria, never has there been an edict or warning issued against those mourning the passing of loved ones only now in Abia state.”

Powerful vowed that the group will not relent if any of its members are wounded or killed.

Powerful recounted: “As our leader expressly pronounced during his radio address on Saturday 8 February 2020, should any shot be fired in and around Afaraukwu on Friday 14 February 2020, the family and children of CP Okon will be hunted down and killed.

“If Buratai is involved through his cowardly army that ran away from Boko Haram in the north with their tails between their legs, is found culpable his children will also pay the price anywhere they are in the world. We say enough is enough,” the separatists warned.

Powerful said he was not surprised at the Abia CP’s supposed threats because, according to him, others before him had done a similar thing but still could not subdue the group.

“Before this Okon came, there were other loud-mouthed southern police commissioners in Abia that sought to impress their Alimajiri masters by making unedifying and unguarded utterances against our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the indomitable IPOB family.

“The same way they sunk into oblivion is exactly the same way this talkative imp will be quickly consigned to the scrapheap of used and discarded unthinking caliphate servants from the south. He is not the first and neither will he be the last. We wonder why these slaves to the Fulani people and their Caliphate in Sokoto reason negatively always.

“IPOB is not in the business of responding to incompetent lowly ranked officers of a failed, shameless, uncivilised and discredited colonial disgrace like Nigeria.

“IPOB is an international movement currently engaged in international diplomacy to drive home the need to put the long-suffering ethnic nationalities the British herded together into their failed experiment in Nigeria out of the primitive stranglehold of the eternally backward Arewa core north.

The group has however promised to involved other world leaders to bear witness to the activities of Nigeria security agencies during the burial.

“These inconsequential and roundly incompetent local police and military operatives blabbing away from a poorly maintained office in a dilapidated building in Umuahia and Ohafia is not worthy of an intelligent response from the great IPOB.

“We shall as always peacefully attend the burial of His Royal Majesty and his wife and should Nigerian army and police attempt to breach the peace, the world will bear us witness.

“However it is important we inform the Fulani masters of this Okon and those parading themselves as military officers in Afaraukwu Umuahia to beware because they cannot stop IPOB from coming to the burial of our leader’s parents on 14th of February, next week Friday.

“Biafra is resonating all over the world today especially thanks to our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB family worldwide. All the years of threats and brutal crackdowns on IPOB have all resulted in making IPOB more defiant, determined and ruthless in our pursuit of the noble goal of Biafra liberation.

“If the military might of the Alimajiri Nigerian North, a grand conspiracy of the judiciary and mind-numbing treachery of Igbo governors and Ohaneze Ndigbo, could not stop IPOB, how much less an unknown Fulani boy-boy and servant in police uniform in Umuahia,” Powerful boasted.

IPOB, Kanu promise to hunt down CP Okon’s children

Fugitive leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, from his safe haven in London has threatened to deal with the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Ene Okon should there be any killing on 14 February when his parents would be buried in Afaraukwu.

In a message on Facebook, Kanu downgraded the commissioner and called him ‘Inspector Okon”.

He wrote: “If Inspector Okon and his commanders come to my father’s house to kill anyone on 14th February 2020 at my parents’ burial, we will hunt down their children,” posting Okon’s photograph along.

Kanu’s threat was the latest in the battle of wits between the security agents and Kanu’s followers in IPOB as the burial date of the parents gets nearer.

Okon in an interview on 7 February warned IPOB members to steer clear of the burial.

“Do you think we will sit down here and allow IPOB to participate in the burial? Whoever thinks along that line is fooling himself. IPOB will dance during the burial and the police elephants will dance too.

“I have already reached out to the traditional prime minister of Afaraukwu (Nnamdi Kanu’s community) and told him that if they want the burial to go smoothly and for police to give them security, they should tell IPOB not to near the area not to talk of participating in the burial. If they fail to adhere to what we’ve told them, that means they do not want the burial to go on smoothly because we are going to scatter the place.

“IPOB is proscribed by the Federal Government. I, as the Commissioner of Police in Abia cannot sit here and allow any proscribed group to operate anywhere in this state. I am saying this again for emphasis that there is no way police will allow a proscribed group to participate in the burial of the King and Queen of Afaraukwu simply because they are the parents of their acclaimed leader, we will not allow that and we cannot take anything for granted in the face of abundant intelligence on threat by IPOB.

“If the burial committee writes to police to provide security during the burial, we will oblige them on the condition that they will guarantee us that IPOB will never, ever be part of the burial, IPOB will never get near there, in fact that IPOB will never, ever enter Umuahia. That police will not see any Biafra flag, IPOB insignia or IPOB member disguising as Jewish or Zionist Church members”.

Following the interview, Ohanaeze Youth Council(OYC) issued its own warning asking the police to keep off the burial.

President of OYC, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka warned that any move by the police to disrupt the event in Afaraukwu, Abia state would be resisted by his group.

“We in OYC see this tough talk and boastful outburst from the police boss in Abia as reopening the wounds of the Nigeria-Biafra war, which was declared “no victor, no vanquished” by the then Nigerian military government.

“Okon’s deadly outburst at this point, if not dragging Nigeria back to the repeat of the 1966 crisis, is capable of causing chaos and anarchy in the country. As worrisome and shameful as this could be at this hour, we are compelled to advise Mr Okon that no reasonable security agency launches or deploys a crime fighting system where there is no crime.

“Any move to disrupt the burial or launch ‘Operation Elephant Dance’ by the Nigeria Police Force would be solely viewed as an act of conventional war against Ndigbo, and we must resist it with anything within our reach.”

Kanu’s kinsmen, expecting some trouble, have asked IPOB members to keep away from the burial.

The Afaraukwu community in Umuahia North council area of Abia State last week Wednesday declared members of the Indigenous People of Biafra personae non gratae at the burial of the parents of Nnamdi Kanu, their founder.

Kanu’s younger brother also echoed the warning.

The burial of His Royal Highness Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife, Ugoeze Meme Sally Kanu is slated for 14 February in their country home, Isiama Afaraukwu community in Umuahia local government area of Abia state.

President General , Afaraukwu community, Chief Ikechukwu Ndubueze, who briefed the media on the preparations for the burial, said the community wants a peaceful burial for their late monarch and his wife.

“What we are doing is a traditional burial. The entire Afaraukwu community wants a peaceful burial. We have been meeting with the security agencies in the state. What we are doing is not an IPOB affair, we are only burying our late monarch and his wife. They should allow us bury our dead. Afaraukwu is a peaceful community”, he said.

Update: FG should let us bury our parents in peace – Kanu’s family

The burial of the parents of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu comes up next week, precisely February 14. Already, tension is mounting in Afaraukwu, Umuahia, the country home of the Kanu’s. In this interview with OKEY SAMPSON in Umuahia, the spokesman of the family, Prince Emmanuel Kanu said they are not preparing for war as security agencies would want the world to know. He called on the Federal Government to allow them bury their parents in peace.

In Igbo land, many burials particularly of the elderly take place at month ends, why did you choose February 14 (Lovers Day) for your parents’ burial?

We call their death the glorious union exit, that’s why we chose February 14, it will be a day of remembrance for us; they both loved themselves so much while they were alive that no other date could have been better. So, that day is very significant to us in so many ways, you know it is Lovers Day and they were epitome of love while they lived here on planet earth.

What’s the family’s role that day going to be like?

It’s not our family’s burial but that of Afaraukwu community because my father was the monarch of the place, so, the burial is going to be handled by Afaraukwu people.

IPOB insists they must be part of the burial ceremonies while police is vehemently against that. What is the family doing to douse this tension?

I don’t know whether it is out of ignorance or what, why are they mixing up these two things together? We are trying to bury our parents who lost their lives as a direct result of Operation Python Dance, now, the best thing we can do for them is to lower them in peace, give them the last honour and that’s what we are trying to do.

We have nothing to do with IPOB or so to speak, this is our tradition and we have to observe it. Even bringing IPOB in the wider picture, what has IPOB got to do with this, they are not troublesome people, they are not violent people. How would they even identify an IPOB member in the first place? Is the Commissioner of Police not an IPOB member? He is an indigenous person as well.

They should know that this is not an IPOB thing, we are talking about burial here, and all we are trying to do is to lower our parents. I can’t understand this, whoever that is coming should be seen as someone who is mourning. When the police talk about people wearing Biafra uniform and putting on IPOB insignia, the question is, are we doing agitation? The answer is no. So, when you are coming for burial you wear Biafra uniform? Is that their thought? It’s not making any sense to us, they are creating tension for themselves. They should allow us do what we want to do and see if there will be problem in Abia State. I can’t be burying my parents and at the same time looking for trouble, it does not make any sense. If the Commissioner of Police likes, he can come for the burial after all I am his landlord. Yes, apart from him being an indigenous person, I’m the landlord of CP Ene Okon here in Umuahia, he lives about two minutes away from me, I’m his landlord. I’m even considering sending official invitation to him to come and witness the burial after all as a Biafran he is, he was supposed to have been in the palace long before now.

What type of burial are we expecting?

It’s going to be wonderful; a lot of people are going to come from far and near to see things for themselves. We are going to have our cultural dances; in fact, we will use the burial to showcase the culture of Afaraukwu people.

What word do you have for people coming for the burial?

I would like to assure all coming that the burial would be done in the most peaceful manner. We won’t allow any noise maker in this place, we will not allow miscreants around the venue of the burial and we will not allow anybody to use the burial to cause problem for us, we are going to checkmate all these things.

I have a word for the Federal Government, they should allow us bury our parents in peace. Why are soldiers parading our community intermittently, who are they looking for? A community that is mourning, what are you coming there to look for? The soldiers parading Afaraukwu should be drafted to the North East where their services are needed.

Kanu parent’s funeral: We will storm Abia – IPOB

Emma Powerful is the Media and Publicity secretary of IPOB. In this interview with OKEY SAMPSON, he warned police not to dare IPOB, insisting that despite police threat, the pro Biafra members would come to Umuahia in their numbers from across the globe to participate in the burial of parents of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Parents of your leader, Nnamdi Kanu will be buried next week, what are we expecting from IPOB?

The burial will be done the way burials take place in Igbo land; IPOB is an organization that wants peace in Igbo land and when we talk of Igbo land, we are also talking about parts of Delta, Kogi and Benue States.

Is IPOB going to super head the burial?

No, the point is that the father of our leader was the traditional ruler of a community, you know how communities bury their traditional rulers, the community cannot be left out in the burial, they are the people that will direct us on what to do. But IPOB will participate fully.

When the parents of your leader were alive, they supported IPOB fully, now they are no more, are you missing their support?

We are missing their support terribly but we must forge ahead; wherever they are today, we are promising them that their death would not be in vain, we are going to achieve Biafra in the shortest possible time.

What are we expecting on the date of the burial?

The atmosphere will be calm, there will be no problem, nobody will quarrel with anybody. All the criminals should leave Afaraukwu on that day so that we will bury our daddy and mummy peacefully.

As the media and publicity secretary of IPOB, you are close to your leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Will he be coming home for the burial?

Well, we cannot expose our strategy again, whether our leader will come or not, will not be made public now. If he is coming back if the need be, the IPOB high command only knows. The arrangement for him to come is not for public consumption.

Are you aware police said he will be arrested if he comes home for the burial?

Police can say whatever they want to say because they are serving their masters, but we know what we are doing and we must get Biafra. IPOB does not fear any threat neither is our leader.

Police are emphatic that they will not allow IPOB participate in the burial, are you not foreseeing a clash between your members and security personnel?

How can police arrest people that came for burial? We are not coming there for war or to cause problem, rather we are coming there to pay our last respect to our parents. Police should not dare us, we are not posing any threat to anybody and we don’t fear anybody; we will conduct ourselves peacefully on that day, that’s all.

CP: IPOB should not come near Umuahia

Following the tension that is building up as the date for the burial of the parents of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu draws closer, the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Ene Okon in this interview with OKEY SAMPSON in Umuahia has warned members of the pro Biafra group not to come near Umuahia, the Abia State capital under the guise of coming for the burial or they would have themselves to blame.

The burial of the parents of IPOB leader, Nnmadi Kanu is coming up next week, the pro Biafra group said they would participate actively. Is the Police comfortable with that?

Do you think we will sit down here and allow IPOB to participate in the burial? Whoever thinks along that line is fooling himself. IPOB will dance during the burial and the police elephants will dance too.

IPOB said they are not coming for war or cause any trouble, but just to pay the parents of their leader their last respect. How would police react to that?

I have already reached out to the traditional prime minister of Afaraukwu (Nnamdi Kanu’s community) and told him that if they want the burial to go smoothly and for police to give them security, they should tell IPOB not to near the area not to talk of participating in the burial. If they fail to adhere to what we’ve told them, that means they do not want the burial to go on smoothly because we are going to scatter the place. IPOB is proscribed by the Federal Government. If the burial committee writes to police to provide security during the burial, we will oblige them on the condition that they will guarantee us that IPOB will never, ever be part of the burial, IPOB will never get near there, in fact that IPOB will never, ever enter Umuahia. That police will not see any Biafra flag, IPOB insignia or IPOB member disguising as Jewish or Zionist Church members.

In a burial of this nature, how would one identify who is an IPOB member or not?

If they come for the burial as ordinary people, not as a group, without Biafra flag or insignia, we won’t know them. But if they come

as a group, with their Biafra flags and insignia and we identify them that is where the problem will come because as a group, the Federal Government has described them as a terrorist group and proscribed them. And it is within our mandate to maintain law and order and we have to make sure that law and order is maintained.

IPOB is emphatic that its members will participate in the burial, what are we expecting?

By saying they were coming for the burial, they are sending signal to us telling us to be ready for them and we will be ready for them. We’ve told the organizers of the burial, if IPOB members are allowed to participate, we will do everything within our powers to disperse and if in the process the burial is disrupted, police will not be blamed.

Abia State Commissioner of Police, Ene Okon

Would the police contemplate cancelling the burial if intelligence report has it that IPOB participation may cause a break down of law and order?

Police did not organize the burial and so cannot cancel their burial, but if IPOB insists on hijacking the burial and taking it up, I will do everything within my powers and within the ambit of the law to make sure that IPOB does not bring a breakdown of law and order in this place. So, they are seriously warned in their own interest.

Kanu’s parent burial unstoppable – IPOB dares

…funeral, February 14

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), yesterday, boasted that the army would not hinder it from conducting the burial ceremony of parents of Nnamdi Kanu, slated for February 14.

IPOB’s spokesman, Mr. Emma Powerful, in a statement in Owerri, berated the army for abandoning their core duty of fighting in the warfront and defending the nation to harassing, humiliating and intimidating indigenes of Kanu’s Afaraukwu community in Umuahia-Ibeku, Abia State.

“We wish to notify the world that preparations for the burial of our leader’s parents is going ahead as planned. The Army is wasting its time and valuable resources trying to stop something they know they are incapable of stopping. Burial of the dead is a right older than man itself. How can the government of Nigeria justify the deployment of soldiers to the venue of a funeral while terrorists are busy making the lives of law abiding citizens a misery. What Buratai and his soldiers are doing in Umuahia is no different from what terrorists are doing in the North East. They invade peaceful communities, killing, pillaging, destroying and kidnapping people at will. We continue to draw attention of the civilised world to the incessant harassment, humiliation, intimidation of Afaraukwu community in Umuahia-Ibeku by the very lazy and shameless Nigerian army, whose stock in trade is to terrorise innocent civilians.

“Nigerian government and her soldiers are shameless and downright disgraceful and their refusal to confront armed Fulani insurgency and Boko Haram menace in the north, but instead chose to focus their attention on a burial ceremony in Afaraukwu is indicative of the misplaced priorities at the heart of this APC regime which has directly led to the deterioration of security situation across Nigeria.

“Boko Haram, Fulani herdsmen, Miyetti Allah Bandits, ISIS in West Africa, Al-Qaeda in the Mhagreb are dutifully waiting for Buratai and his warriors to engage them in battle in the north. That is the real security problem facing Nigeria, not the burial of His Royal Majesty Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife…

“One thing is certain, come 14 February, the parents of our leader will be laid to rest. APC regime, Nigerian Army and their badly informed supporters cannot stop IPOB from restoring the sovereign state of Biafra within the shortest possible time by the grace of God,” Powerful said.
