The Lazio striker was on target in Saturday’s defeat to Napoli to beat Robert Lewandowski’s 34 goals for Bayern Munich.

Lazio striker Ciro Immobile brought his Serie A season to a close on Saturday on 36 goals, making him the top scorer in Europe and the winner of this year’s Golden Shoe award.

Immobile pips Lewandowski and Cristiano
The Capocannoniere of the Italian top flight, also equalled the league record set by Gonzalo Higuaín with Napoli in 2016. Immobile beat his closest rivals for the Golden Shoe, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, who ended on 34 goals and Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo, who finished on 31.

Immobile went into today’s match, the final league game of the season, already knowing that Cristiano had been left out of the Juve squad for their meeting with Roma. He becomes the third Italian winner of the Golden Shoe after Luca Toni (2006) and Francesco Totti (2007).

The Spanish league’s dominance of the award also comes to an end – since 2009, LaLiga players have ended as European football’s top scorer for the past 11 years with Leo Messi (6) and Cristiano Rolando (4) claiming the award during the best part of a decade and Luis Suárez and Diego Forlán winning in 2014 and 2016 respectively..

Juve puts Higuain on Transfer List

Juventus have reportedly slapped an €18m price tag on Gonzalo Higuain, who is being pursued by River Plate and clubs in England.

Higuain and River have been vocal in their admiration for one another throughout the coronavirus lockdown, but the Argentine side could be facing competition from Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

As per Tuttojuve, Juve are prepared to sell the striker this summer but for no less than €18m to ensure they do not make a loss from his sale on their balance sheet.

The Bianconeri paid €90m to take him from Napoli in 2016, and he has repaid them with 63 goals in 139 appearances, eight of which have come in the current campaign.

On the other hand, he can leave the Old Lady for nothing when his contract expires in June 2021.

Juventus ‘may terminate Higuain’s contract as striker failed to contact club

Juventus may consider terminating Gonzalo Higuain’s contact with the striker having returned to Argentina and failed to contact the club.

The Turin giants plan to call back the eight foreign players on their books who are currently spending lockdown outside of Italy, in preparation for the resumption of the current Serie A campaign.

But according to Tuttosport, Higuain faces a bitter war of words with Juventus should he choose to remain in Argentina – where he is spending time with his cancer-stricken mother Nancy.

The former Chelsea frontman decided to leave Italy just seven days into a recommend two-week quarantine period to return to his homeland.

Juventus are said to have already heard back from the likes of Alex Sandro and Danilo, who have also jetted out of the country during the ongoing health emergency.

Both players are already organising flights to Turin, and all returning players will have to spend another two weeks self-isolating upon their arrival.

However, Higuain is yet to respond to Juventus’ call to arms – and several reports from Italy have indicated that the 32-year-old may prefer to stay in Argentina despite the prospect of football returning.

Any refusal to report back to the club may allow Juventus to terminate his deal under breach of contract guidelines.

However, the current Italian top tier champions could instead give Higuain permission to remain in Argentina.

Higuain’s decision to leave Italy left his lawyer Rinaldo Romanelli to concede that he felt ‘at the very least perplexed’ by his client’s actions – and he also admitted that the target man should have followed quarantine measures.

His current deal is set to expire in 2021, and La Repubblica previously suggested that an early severance may save Juventus roughly £23million.

The star was one of the first players to leave Italy after the government imposed quarantine, after team-mates Daniele Rugani, Blaise Matuidi and Paulo Dybala tested positive for Covid-19.

Higuain could leave Juventus in order for Icardi to arrive

Juventus are keen to lure Mauro Icardi to Turin and they are reportedly preparing a deal that could see the Inter striker move to the Old Lady.

The Argentina international is currently on loan at Paris Saint-Germain, who could exercise his 70 million euro buyout clause and resell the player.

According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Gonzalo Higauin could leave in order for Icardi to arrive.

Juventus will try to avoid negotiating with Inter over Icardi and are planning to include some players in a swap deal that would see him join the Turin-based club.

Miralem Pjanic and Alex Sandro are two of the men who could be used as makeweight in Juventus’ attempt to avoid splashing out cash for the Argentine striker.
