Heung-min Son is one of the most adored players in the Premier League.
There are just certain footballers you love no matter who you support and the Tottenham Hotspur winger strolls into that category, always playing the beautiful game with a smile on his face.
But as the world remains in lockdown to contain the coronavirus pandemic, Son couldn’t be further away from a football pitch and has instead been working with the South Korean military.
All able-bodied men in the Asian nation must complete approximately two years in the military and with Premier League football on hold, Son has finally been able to make a start.
It has long been touted that Son will have to take time out to fulfil his obligations back home and winning gold at the 2018 Asian Games hasn’t made him exempt as it was once thought.
Son takes to military training Only those who win a medal at the Olympic games are given an automatic waiver and Son must complete another 544 hours of community service over the next 34 months.
But for the moment, Son has completed his military training with photographs emerging of the Spurs star in full camouflage and military attire to the shock of football fans this week.
However, just as you’d expect from the perpetually hard-working winger, Son has rounded off his duties by coming top of the class and even bagging himself a coveted award.
Son Heung-Min Completes Military Training Award-winning training peformance According to the Independent, Son was named as the best performer across his three-work course from the cohort of 157 trainees he worked alongside.
The Yonhap news agency quoted as Marine Cop officer as saying: “He received the ‘Pilsung’ prize which is one of five types of awards for best performer.
“All the courses were judged in a fair and strict manner, and his military training officers have said he went through the training faithfully.”
It’s no small feat when you consider the training programme includes being exposed to tear gas, undertaking long hikes and becoming familiar with weaponry procedures.
Per The Sun, Son particularly excelled in the shooting exercises, hitting ten out of ten targets.
Son Heung-Min Completes Military Training Son had initially been quarantined for two weeks upon his arrival in Seoul at the end of the March and it remains to be seen when he’ll return to England in accordance with ‘Project Restart’.
But as both his football and military training shows, you can guarantee that’ll be giving 100% whenever he’s called upon next.
