‘This has to End’ Pogba and Rashford cries out against racism

Manchester United teammates Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba have both posted powerful anti-racism messages on social media, as outcry continues to build over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

“I know you guys haven’t heard from me in a few days,” said England forward Rashford in a message posted on Twitter and Instagram. “I’ve been trying to process what is going on in the world.”

“At a time [when] I’ve been asking people to come together, work together and be united, we appear more divided than ever,” the 22-year-old added. “People are hurting and people need answers.

“Black lives matter. Black culture matters. Black communities matter. We matter.” Rashford also called for justice for Floyd, who died last Monday after a white police officer kneeled on his neck.

Pogba also joined the calls for change on his Instagram account. “During the past few days I have thought a lot about how to express my feelings about what happened in Minneapolis,” Pogba wrote. “I felt anger, pity, hatred, indignation, pain, sadness.

“Sadness for George and for all black people who suffer from racism EVERY DAY!” added the France midfielder. “Whether in football, at work, at school, ANYWHERE! This has to stop, once and for all! Not tomorrow or the next day, it has to end TODAY! Violent acts of racism can no longer be tolerated. I can’t tolerate. I won’t tolerate. WE WON’T TOLERATE. Racism is ignorance. LOVE is intelligence.”

Earlier on Monday Liverpool players, including captain Jordan Henderson and defender Virgil Van Dijk, tweeted messages with an image of the players taking a knee during training at Anfield.

Rashford has followed his England colleague Jadon Sancho in addressing the issue after the Borussia Dortmund winger said “we shouldn’t fear speaking out for what’s right”. Sancho displayed a message reading “Justice for George Floyd” on his undershirt after scoring the first of his three goals against Paderborn on Sunday.

Premier League side Chelsea have declared that they stand with Floyd and “all victims in the fight against discrimination, brutality and injustice” in a statement.

“As a club we are committed to being a part of the solution, and we are joining our voice to all those calling for fairness, equality and meaningful change. Enough is enough. Together we are stronger.”

The former England captain, David Beckham, posted on Instagram: “My heart goes out to George’s family and I stand in solidarity with the black community and millions of others across the world who are outraged by these events. Its heartbreaking to see that in 2020 this is still happening.”

The American was showing his support for George Floyd, the unarmed African-American who died at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis earlier this week.

Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin was seen on video kneeling on the neck of Floyd, who could be heard saying he couldn’t breathe before he tragically passed away.

Chauvin was arrested on Friday and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

The shocking death has made headlines around the world with protests now taking place in parts of America. According to the criminal complaint filed, Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds; two minutes and 53 seconds of which occurred after Floyd became unresponsive.

McKennie grew up in Texas and the 21-year-old has been capped 21 times for the United States national side.

His superb show of support for Floyd didn’t go unnoticed but McKennie couldn’t stop his Schalke side from their terrible form – as they lost 1-0 at home to Werder Bremen.

That makes it four defeats in their four matches since the Bundesliga returned, after losses to Borussia Dortmund (4-0), Augsburg (3-0), Dusseldorf (2-1) and now Werder Bremen.

That run of form leaves Schalke in tenth, five points away from Wolfsburg who occupy a Europa League spot in sixth. But David Wagner’s side might start looking down as they’re now just 10 points above the relegation zone.

Buying Ighalo shows how United has fallen behind others – Jimmy Floyd comment

Chelsea football legend, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has taken a swipe at Manchester United over their deadline transfer deal for Odion Ighalo.

The Nigerian international, 30, joined United in a shock move on January 31 as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was desperately looking for a replacement for injured Marcus Rashford.

Ighalo, who scored 36 goals in 90 League games for Watford before going to China, signed on loan from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua for the rest of the 2019/20 season.

Commenting on Ighalo’s shock move to Manchester United, Chelsea football legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink admitted that the Nigerian footballer is the luckiest man in terms of joining his childhood club. But the former Dutch footballer said Man. United’s decision to move for the Nigerian international shows how far Manchester United have fallen behind rivals

“He must be the luckiest man! Going to China, being away from Europe, nobody seeing him for two-and-a-half years since he was at Watford and then getting a loan move at United,” he told Sky Sports.

“Wow. That doesn’t happen! It says how far behind United are from Liverpool, Manchester City and even Chelsea. They have got a big job ahead.”

With United missing out on top target Erling Braut Haaland before the January window even opened, Hasselbaink added: “They needed somebody in.

“I think [Ighalo] was not their number one and I would be surprised if he was their number two or three as well.

“He is getting an opportunity and he will definitely get minutes and we will see if he can do it.”
