EndSARs: Court drop charges against Falz, Davido, Sam Adeyemi, others.

Okeke in his suit alleged that during the riot, properties were destroyed and the defendants who promoted the #EndSARS protests must be held responsible for it and also brought to justice.

A Federal High Court has stopped and drop the charges against Pastor Sam Adeyemi of Daystar Christian Centre, Burna Boy, Davido, Falz, activist Deji Adeyanju and others over the #EndSARS protest.

NoRM gathered that the High Court ordered a Magistrate court to instantly stop proceedings and stay action against 50 persons who supported the #EndSARS protests, following a criminal accusation filed by lawyer Kenechukwu Okeke.

Justice Bello Kawu who delivered a judgement on the application filed by Activist Deji Adeyanju (one of the defendants) for a judicial review of the substantive matter before the magistrate, said;

“An order of this honourable court granting leave to the application to issue and serve on the defendant an application for judicial review against the proceedings/direct criminal complaint of Hon. Omolola Tolulope Akindele sitting at Chief Magistrate Court II, Wuse Zone 6 in the suit of Kenechukwu Okeke Vs Deji Adeyanju and 49 others in suit No. CR/49/2020.

CR/49/2020.

EndSARs: Let’s ensure this! – Falz hint Youth on next step.

Advertisements

Falz also noted that with the passion and unity exhibited by Nigerian youths in the past weeks, he was optimistic that the future of the country looked brighter.

Few weeks after the End SARS protest, singer, rapper, lawyer and social activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, is of the opinion that Nigeria would never be the same again.

In his note;

He said, “I have never seen a Nigeria as united as what I saw during the protests. The youths were so united. However, the question for many people now is, what next? I think it is work in progress. The struggle has by no means ended. Majority of the work lies in citizen education. People need to know their rights and what the Constitution says. For some time, I have been informing my followers on social media about what the law says about specific issues but I decided to commit my resources and efforts into making it a full-fledged show when I realised that many people were unaware of certain things.”

Advertisements

The multi-award winner also averred that hoodlums who disrupted the protests did that because they did not know better. He said, “The words, ‘hoodlums’ and ‘thugs’ were thrown around a lot recently. A hoodlum is an average young man like me who does not know better. Nobody was born or destined to be a hoodlum. They just need more education to let them know they don’t have to be used by politicians to wreak havoc.”

Falz also enjoined youths to focus on the next election cycle in 2023 to make substantial inputs to the political process. “As we are approaching 2023, it is important for us to start getting ready. It would be a big year for our future. It is important to start getting our permanent voter cards. A lot of people don’t understand certain things like the process for recalling an elected official. For example, if somebody who is representing you in the National Assembly is not doing what the constituents want, you have the power to remove him. The power of the people is greater than the people in power. We need to work more closely with one another,” he said.
Deploring the religious and tribal colourations that were added to the protests, Falz stated, “We need to discard all the religious and tribal sentiments that have been thrown around recently. They are just tactics by people trying to tear us apart. We need to keep the energy going. Stay alert and register to vote. We need more intelligent people in government. These past few weeks have shown us that the people we have in power are very shallow. They are just there to embezzle money. We need people who know that they are there to serve us and not for them to be worshipped.”

Love is hungrying me – Falz says he is tired of single status

Nigerian Rapper, Falz has spoken out over his relationship status, confessing that he is hungry for love and tired of his single relationship status.

Falz made the confession this morning on his Instagram stories with a short statement. He wrote; “Love is Hungrying me”.

Falz has always noted that he has not had a girlfriend for a long time. Infact in a particular interview, he stated that he does not actively entertain thoughts of marriage.

“I don’t really think about marriage like that but I have liked girls,” he said.

Falana SAN replies Malami, “Says you can’t release anyone out of pity”.

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana has said Abubakar Malami, minister of justice and attorney-general of the federation, does not possess the constitutional power to release anyone on compassionate grounds.

Falana said this while responding to Malami’s claim that Omoyele Sowore, convener of the RevolutionNow movement, and Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser, were released on compassionate grounds.

“The only reasons for the release of Omoyele Sowore and Sambo Dasuki revolved around our commitment to the rule of law, obedience to court orders and compassionate grounds,” Malami had said.

In a letter addressed to Malami, Falana said only the president and state governors are entitled to exercise the prerogative of mercy or release any convicted person on compassionate grounds.

“It is trite law that once a trial court has granted bail to any person standing trial for any offence whatsoever and the bail conditions have been met the detaining authority shall release the person from custody without any further ado,” he said.

“In other words, the refusal to release a defendant who has been admitted to bail by a trial judge is tantamount to contempt of court. Hence, before Sowore’s release, we had filed Forms 48 and 49 for the committal of the Director-General of the State Security Service to prison for contempt of court.”

“The government is not permitted to refuse to comply with the order of bail under the pretext of defending the security of the nation. Even under the defunct military dictatorship, detaining authorities were not authorized to incarcerate any person for “security reasons” in defiance of court orders.

{Left} AGF, Malami & Femi Falana {Right}

“With respect, the federal government has itself to blame for the needless controversy that has trailed the release of the duo. But having belatedly deemed it fit to review your position and advise the federal government in line with the tenets of the rule of law you ought to have apologised to both Sowore and Dasuki.

“That is what is expected of you in accordance with section 32 (6) of the 1999 Constitution. It is not an occasion for grandstanding or an arrogant display of power.”

Judge withdraws his efforts from sowore’s suit.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday withdrew from the fundamental rights enforcement suit instituted by the ‘RevolutionNow’ protests convener, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, seeking an order for his release from custody of the Department of State Service.

There have been no fresh charges instituted against Sowore since he was rearrested by the operatives of the DSS on December 6 barely 24 hours of being released from the agency’s detention lasting over months.

Sultan of sokoto takes it on Buhari, tells him to obey court orders.

…as sowore continued detention gets serious

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has told President Muhammadu Buhari and all those in his regime to obey court orders because according to him failure to do so holds dire consequences.

The Sultan gave the warning while speaking at the 2019 fourth quarter meeting of the Nigeria Inter-religious Council in Abuja.

Abubakar said nobody can decide to disregard the court at will, adding that it would be detrimental to national development.

He said, “We must regularly obey and respect the laws of our land.

“We should never disregard the laws to avoid the consequences.

“If a court makes a judicial pronouncement on a particular matter, it should be obeyed to the letter.

“If you have any problem or disagree with the pronouncement, the next step is to appeal the pronouncement instead of disregarding or violating court judgments.

“If you are served a court order and you deliberately refused to obey it because you are a governor, president or any influential person, then you are setting a dangerous precedent.”

The Nigerian Government has failed to release Omoyele Sowore, disregarding two court orders by two different judges.

Sowore was rearrested at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday by operatives of the Department of State Services less than 24 hours after he was released on bail after 125 days in detention.

The invasion of the court and refusal to obey court orders has by President Buhari’s regime has been condemned from around the world.

The government is accusing him of insulting President Muhammadu Buhari and planning to bring down his regime.
