Ex girlfriend of Dangote, Autumn Spikes sent packing from Miami apartment.

Advertisements

As there was no response from Ms Spikes, the landlord on October 10, filed a motion for default judgment, a request for the court to deliver its verdict based on the plaintiff’s claims alone.

Despite being a girlfriend of Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, Autumn Spikes got evicted from her North Miami apartment in Florida, U.S., after piling up unpaid rent for six months in 2020, NoRM has found out.

Advertisements

Ms Spikes and Mr Dangote dated secretly for nearly 10 years until recently when the business mogul broke up with her and subsequently sued her in a court in Florida for allegedly trying to extort $5million from him.

File Photo: Ms Autumn Spikes | Noble Reporters Media | Adigun Michael Olamide | NoRM News

Africa’s richest man, Alike Dangote
But while the affair was going on fine most of last year, Ms Spikes was grappling with accumulated rent arrears of $13,230 for the months of March to August 2020, court documents obtained by NoRM’s known Media have shown.

The landlord of the property, The Shoreline at SoleMia, 2301 Laguna Circle, North Miami, Florida, issued Ms Spikes with a 30-day ‘Pay or Vacate’ notice on August 5.

Ms Spikes neither paid the debt nor vacated her apartment number 1708.

Advertisements

After the expiration of the 30-day notice, the landlord, on September 19, 2020, filed an eviction suit against her at a Miami Dade County court, in Florida, the same court where Mr Dangote would later sue her in January.

NoRM’s known Media on Thursday obtained the complaint, notice of debt, the lease and other documents filed as exhibits by Ms Spikes’ landlord in the suit that is now closed.

Advertisements

The landlord’s complaint in the eviction suit reads in part, “Plaintiff owns or is the lessor of the real property, the premises:

“The Shoreline at SoleMia, 2301 Laguna Circle Apt 1708, North Miami, FL 33181.

“Tenant retains possession of the premises under a written lease requiring rent of $2,215.00 per month to be paid the first of each month.

Advertisements

“A copy of relevant portions of the lease is attached hereto and incorporated herein as plaintiff’s Exhibit A.

“Tenant failed to pay rent for March, April, May, June, July and August.

File Photo: Aliko Dangote | Noble Reporters Media | Adigun Michael Olamide | NoRM News

“Tenant owes plaintiff rent the months stated in paragraph 6 herein in the total sum of $13,230.00

“Plaintiff served tenant notice to pay or vacate the premises on August 5, 2020 as shown by copy or copies of the notice(s) attached here to and incorporated herein as plaintiff’s Exhibit (s) B, but tenant refuses to do either.

Advertisements

“In accordance with Fla. Stat. (Florida Statutes) Section 83.60(2), if tenant fails to deposit the sum of $13,230.00 in the court registry, plus rent which accrued during the pendency of this action, then plaintiff is entitled to a default judgment for removal of tenant and to recover a judgment for rent due and owing costs in accordance with Fla. Stat. Sections 83.59 and 83.625.

“Failure of tenant to pay rent as due caused plaintiff to retain undersigned counsel and incur reasonable attorney’s fees and costs, which tenant should pay pursuant to Flat. Stat. Sec 83.48 and the lease.

Advertisements

“Wherefore, plaintiff demands judgment for possession of the premises, rent, due, court costs and attorney’s fees against the defendant and other available remedies in accordance with Fla. Stat. Section 83.625 and for such other relief this court deems just and proper.”

Ms Spikes serially unreachable
Ms Spikes’ consistent absence from the apartment could be gleaned from the affidavits of failed service deposed to by court officers throughout the period the suit lasted.

The period of her accumulated rent and the court action coincided with the grim period of COVID-19 and attendant restrictions last year.

Advertisements

All attempts to have Ms Spikes personally served with the documents issued at every stage of the suit failed.

For instance, the court’s process server made two failed attempts to serve Ms Spikes with the ‘Residential Eviction Summons’ and the landlord’s complaint on Ms Spikes on September 23and 24.

In an affidavit of ‘Return of Service’, a process server said after the two attempted service, she had to “post by attaching the true copy” of the documents “to a conspicuous place of the property” close to Ms Spikes’ residence.

As there was no response from Ms Spikes, the landlord on October 10, filed a motion for default judgment, a request for the court to deliver its verdict based on the plaintiff’s claims alone.

Advertisements

On October 21, the court delivered a default judgment in favour of the plaintiff.

The court, on October 24, issued a ‘Writ of Possession’ commanding the Sheriffs of the court “to remove all persons” from the apartment and restore possession of the apartment to the plaintiff “after 24 hours notice conspicuously pasted on the premises.”

Advertisements

But the Sheriffs said an attempt to serve Ms Spikes with the writ of possession failed.

File Photo: Autumn Spikes | Noble Reporters Media | Adigun Michael Olamide | NoRM News

Ms Spikes packs out
However, on October 30, 2020, the landlord’s lawyer wrote the Sheriff Department applying for the cancellation of the writ of possession on the grounds that “tenant vacated.”

Ms Spikes did not file any response in the suit when the suit was declared closed by the court.

Advertisements

Between Spikes and Dangote
Mr Dangote is currently embroiled in a legal battle with Ms Spikes following a dispute over the monetary terms of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) demanded by Africa’s wealthiest man after breaking up with her former girlfriend.

Mr Dangote filed the libel suit on January 20 about 19 days after Ms Spikes posted a video clip through a January 1 Instagram post showing her seated beside the Nigerian businessman with part of his buttocks revealed to viewers.

He alleged in his suit that Ms Spikes threatened to launch “an onslaught” of exposing his “family and private” and social media and media talk shows if he failed to pay her $5million.

Ms Spikes, in an Instagram post, denied issuing such threats even as she said she had rejected $15,000 and $2,500 “insultingly” offered her by Mr Dangote in exchange for an NDA over their affair.

Advertisements

NoRM learnt that Mr Dangote, through his U.S based lawyers, recently applied to the Miami-Dade County court where he filed his libel suit, to issue a gag order against Ms Spikes.

The court has tentatively fixed February 9 for the hearing of Mr Dangote’s preliminary petition.

MI beef ‘fetched’ me lot of money – Vector reveals.

Advertisements

The beef which began as one line disses from various tracks by the rappers evolved to diss tracks by both heavyweights in the music industry.

One of the most iconic ‘beef’ in the Nigeria music industry was between ace rap artistes, Vector and his colleague MI which spanned for close to a decade.

In entertainment, beef is a word often used to describe disagreement between celebrities

The beef which began as one line disses from various tracks by the rappers evolved to diss tracks by both heavyweights in the music industry.

In October 2019, MI released the diss track, The Viper, aimed at Vector whose pseudonym is Vector The Viper. In the same month, Vector hit back with the track, Judas the rat; as MI’s real name is Jude Abaga.

Advertisements

Recently, there was a reconciliation between the two hip-hop head courtesy of an alcoholic brand and they have made a song together, Crown Of Clay, which will be on Vector’s forthcoming album, T.E.S.L.I.M, to the delight of their fans.

Speaking about his feud with MI, Vector noted that he made money from their diss. He made this statement during a media parley as the rap artiste spoke on his forthcoming project, T.E.S.L.I.M.

“Yes I made money from the beef tracks I did for MI. The records sold. There seems to be a ‘sweetness’ that comes with beef records. So they were streamed a lot. We trended at number 2 in the US, both verses trended at number one on, Genius, the lyrics website. Which means that Nigerians can write what the whole world can read and understand and we will trend. So yes, there was that,” he said.

Advertisements

He further revealed that the alcoholic brand who brokered the peace deal made monetary offers. He said, “Of course, I was paid by the brand. How would that have been? That the brand would come, offer us alcohol and record the reconciliation? No.

“There is still business going on. And that is also one of the highlights that you can share with up and coming rappers. Don’t be stupid to pick a fight over growth. You must know when to stop being hard-headed as a person. A lot of brands had called to make the reconciliation happen but I guess it had to be them.”

Vector stated that his beef with MI exposed some ‘fake friends’.

“You will be amazed by the kind of realizations that you encounter when you speak with the person that you had beef with. You will realize the people that are with you but ‘are not with you.’ I saw it with him and he saw it with me. People that wanted to be relevant in the argument. People that I thought were my guys that would call him. It helped expose people that would not have been exposed if there was no beef. We understood that,” the rapper said.

Advertisements

Commenting on his forthcoming album, T.E.S.L.I.M, he said the idea of the album name came to him while he was staring at his father’s casket.

He said, “TESLIM as an album. First, I had just released the Lafiaji album and when we were gearing up to make the album, my dad died. That energy just sunk the idea. We were at the funeral home when a friend of mine whispered to another friend that he should observe my looks as I was in deep thoughts. I was staring at my dad’s casket when it dawned on me, TESLIM, you are gone but your energy still remains. I took the letters to his name and it made the acronym; T.E.S.L.I.M, which stands for The Energy Still Lives In Me.”

Gist+: Kunle Afolayan apologizes to Mike Ezuruonye.

Advertisements

Award-winning movie maker and actor, Kunle Afolayan, has tendered a heartfelt apology to his aggrieved colleague, Mike Ezuruonye, after sharing an incriminating screenshot which implyed he was fraudulent.

According to Kunle, the actor had him misunderstood as he never intended to put him in the bad light.

“While I did not see my innocent reaction to an indicting post by a random IG follower as capable of further hurting my friend and colleague, Mike Ezuruonye, to be labelled a tribalist in retaliation is very unfortunate,”
“Honestly, I was misunderstood,”
“My reaction, which was rather spontaneous, was to chide the IG follower who appeared to be reporting the actor to me. And I merely asked (in Yoruba) how all of that was my business. It was like saying ‘when did I become an officer of the law’. Obviously, my colleague took the context of my post wrongly and angrily accused me of tribalism.
“I do not know what gave birth to such misrepresentation. However, while I am famous for living and promoting everything that my tradition stands for as a Yoruba man, I have maintained a mutual friendship with people of other extractions, Igbos especially. It is therefore not in the interest of both of us (Mike Ezuruonye and I) to politicise our emotion with tribal colouration. For me, this is undeserving of our other friends, and goes to offend the sensibility of genuine relationships we have each cultivated with people of other tribes.”
On how he has been promoting inter-tribal relationships through his works, Afolayan says the facts are there for all to see.
“The ideals are reflected in the themes and plots of my movies, some of which include; The Figurine, The Bridge, Phone Swap, Omugwo, and Roti.”
The movie maker futher said he has offered an olive branch on the matter. “I have told Mike ‘I’m sorry’ since he found my post offensive. I am also apologising to anyone who also may have seen things from his point of view. Ire o.” He wrote;

[Nigeria] Actress Toyin Adewale reveals how she now relate with her son Mayorkun

Advertisements

Toyin Adewale, a veteran actress and mother of music star, Mayorkun, has opened up on how she now relates with her son following his fame.

Toyin Adewale, a happily married mum of two, who relocated to Maryland, in the U.S a few years ago in a chat with City People also disclosed why she never supported her son initially for going into the music industry and why she still monitors him daily, despite his fame and age.

“It makes me proud and I am happy about it, I never knew Mayowa will go into music. He used to be a junior choir master while in the choir, but never knew he would go this far, because he has always been a very quiet, easy-going person. He is not a loud guy, but you know God’s ways are not our ways, so when he started, I became very happy and proud of him.

Initially I was very afraid, I didn’t even give him my blessing, I said I have been in the entertainment industry for long and I know what it entails, so I didn’t support. It was his father who said Toyin, let’s give him a chance, he studied banking in school.

So, I was like why not go and work with your certificate then do music alongside but my husband convinced me. So, we decided to give him our blessings and today to God be the glory.”

Advertisements

When asked if she listens to his music, Toyin Adewale said

“I know all my son’s music from A to Z, word for word, I know his songs very well, I follow and monitor him all the time. In fact, if he has the power to send me out of Instagram, he would have done that since, because I am always on his page every day, I recently told him I want to join Insta story he said ‘no’, that Instagram was okay for me.”

And she concluded with this advice to parents whose kids are into entertainment, saying “First and foremost, they have a lot of work to do. They should allow their kids to follow their dreams and at the same time, they should follow them with prayers and monitor them because children of these days always come up with different things.

If I show you my phone you will see different pictures that I screen munched from his page, once I see anything unusual, I snap and call his attention to it, he will be like mummy, please give me a breathing space. I would say no ooo, I monitor him always. So, any parent, who wants his/her kids to go into the entertainment industry, should be prayerful and be their guide.”

Her Stage Name And Social Media Accounts

“Why are people not asking questions; how come this girl has been down this so long and not even one colleague came up to her rescue? Not rescue as in giving her money or sponsoring her. Rescue as in identifying with her.”

Jude said May D had demanded a car and an apartment in Lekki despite the fact that the singer was still up-and-coming and had not done any shows.

On Psquare
