German City: At least, two people dead By gun bullet.

Policemen secure the area around the synagogue in Dresden on October 9, 2019. At least two people were killed in a shooting on a street in the German city of Halle, police said,/ AFP

At least two people were shot dead on a street in the German city of Halle on Wednesday, police said, with media and witnesses reporting that a synagogue and a Turkish restaurant were the targets.

“Early indications show that two people were killed in Halle. Several shots were fired,” said police on Twitter, urging residents in the area to stay indoors.

Police had earlier said the “perpetrators fled in a car” before saying later that one suspect had been caught.

It was not immediately clear whether there were other assailants.

The central train station has been closed while the area is under lockdown, rail company Deutsche Bahn said.

According to Bild daily, the shooting took place in front of a synagogue in the Paulus district, and a hand grenade was also flung into a Jewish cemetery. Police could not be reached immediately for confirmation.

Jews around the world were marking Yom Kippur, one of the holiest days in the Jewish calendar, on Wednesday.

An eyewitness, Konrad Roesler, told news channel NTV he was in a Turkish restaurant about 600 metres (yards) away from the synagogue when “a man wearing a helmet and military uniform” flung a hand grenade at the store.

“The grenade hit the door and exploded,” he said.

“(The attacker) shot at least once in the shop, the man behind me must be dead. I hid in the toilet and locked the door.”

Speaking to NTV, a police spokesman said the motive of the suspect or suspects was not clear.

“We don’t have any indication about the motive of this act.”

– ‘Big threat’ –
Wednesday’s shootings came three months after the shocking assassination-style murder of local pro-migrant politician Walter Luebcke in the western city of Kassel, allegedly by a known neo-Nazi.

Luebcke’s killing has deeply shaken Germany, raising questions about whether it has failed to take seriously a rising threat from right-wing extremists.

Investigators have been probing the extent of suspect Stephan Ernst’s neo-Nazi ties and whether he had links to the far-right militant cell National Socialist Underground (NSU).

Interior Minister Horst Seehofer last month warned of the rising danger of the militant far right, calling it “as big a threat as radical Islamism”.

Seehofer said that police had uncovered 1,091 weapons including firearms and explosives during probes of crimes linked to the far right last year, far more than in 2017 when 676 were found.

At the same time, Germany has also been on high alert following several jihadist attacks in recent years claimed by the Islamic State group.

Sex4Grades: See how toke makinwa reacts to scandal, says Boniface wanted to commit suicide.

Toke Makinwa has reacted to the unconfirmed report of suspended University of Lagos (UNILAG) lecturer, Dr. Boniface Ighenehue nearly committing suicide after BBC aired the #sexforgrades documentary which he featured prominently in.

There are unconfirmed reports of the randy lecturer being admitted at Reddington Hospital in Lagos after a near-suicide attempt last night.

Reacting to the near-suicide report, Toke Makinwa expressed sympathy for female students who have gone into depression because a lecturer refused to let them go until they traded their bodies for grades. The media personality added that Dr. Ighenehue is a coward for nearly committing suicide over the documentary she said broke her.

Toke wrote;

#Sexforgrades. Even if it has never happened to you I am most certainly sure you know someone who has had to endure unnecessary pressure, sexual advances, harassment and all sort of despicable utterances from these beasts called “lecturers”. What a time to be alive, what a time to join the conversation. My heart deeply goes out to all the females out there who have gone into depression because one lecturer refused to let them go until they traded their bodies for grades, some have committed suicide, some dropped out, until you’ve had to endure it, you honestly do not want to imagine how frustrating it can be.

Lecturers purposely holding on to your result, asking you to show them your breast, touch them and make them feel good or else you won’t pass the course. Watching that documentary broke me, I couldn’t but imagine the women in his church he must have also used his position of power to intimidate too. Like how can you call the name of God so carelessly? Now I hear he attempted suicide yesterday, what a coward. You cannot die, uncle, you must face the hand of the law.

Do you know how many girls have jumped off a building or drank poison all because they did sleep with said lecturers and still didn’t get the grades cos said lecturer wants to keep having his way with them? Did you think of your own wife? Kids? Family before you put another human being thru hell? He must live and answer the law, other lecturers must be named and shamed too. Pls let’s all come together to use our voice and force the ministry of education to act now, name and Shane them, jail them, this conversation must continue till they hear us.

Lagos: Sanwo olu commends female cop for saving a robbery victim with her personal resources. (Details & photos)

Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu has rewarded an act of kindness rendered to a robbery victim by the Divisional Police Office (DPO) of the Ogudu Police Station.

Sanwo-Olu who personally invited the kind hearted police officer to the State House for an honour described Mrs. Celestina Kalu, a Superintendent of Police (SP), as “a humane police officer”, saying her decision to save the life of an orphan, Friday Ajabor, shot by a two-man robbery gang in Ojota, was a “matchless trait of compassion”.

Ajabor, a 25-year-old orphan from Edo State, was at the Ojota with his friend at about 8pm on September 19 when two men of the underworld waylaid them, attempting to dispossess them of their valuables. They struggled with the robbers, until the assailants overpowered them.

Ajabor’s friend managed to escape from the scene with their personal effects, leaving him at the mercy of the robbers armed with a local pistol. For struggling with them, the robbers shot Ajabor in the bowel at a close range and disappeared from the scene.

A team of policemen from Ogudu Police Station led by Mrs. Kalu arrived at the scene about 30 minutes later, meeting the hapless victim in a pool of his blood. The policemen, it was learnt, rushed the victim to two hospitals where he was rejected for lack of bed space. About 90 minutes after, the victim was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja, where he underwent a series of surgery, the cost of which was personally defrayed by Mrs. Kalu.

This extra effort by the police officer saved the life of the orphan whose relatives could not be reached at the time he was admitted into the ICU. The DPO’s act of kindness caught Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s attention after it went viral in the social media, prompting the Governor to reach out to the policewoman and the victim.

While honouring the DPO, Sanwo-Olu said Mrs. Kalu went beyond the limit of her official duty to save the life of the robbery victim, stressing that the policewoman’s effort was “the essence of public service” and “a true spirit of Lagos”.

Sanwo-Olu said: “I am personally amazed by this rare act of kindness displayed by Mrs. Celestina Kalu, who went beyond the official call of duty to save the life of a citizen using her personal resources. This is one of the essences of governance and public service when you have public officers going beyond the call of duty to render a helping hand to a fellow citizen.

“This is a rare trait of compassion by the DPO. We usually don’t get to witness such act of kindness, because everyone of us is too overwhelmed by myriad of personal challenges. When we see law enforcement officers giving us reasons to be kind, we need to appreciate and recognise such action. This is why we are honouring Mrs. Kalu this morning as our role model. This will encourage others to emulate this act of kindness.

“Not only that she stopped to help the victim at the point of death, she also went ahead to make financial commitment that ensured immediate treatment of the victim at the hospital. We are happy that this effort paid off, because the victim is alive and he is recuperating well.”
Sanwo-Olu presented a special plaque bearing the official seal of the Lagos State Government to honour the DPO, while also taking over the cost of Ajabor’s surgery. The Governor urged security agencies to scale up their surveillance across the State, urging inter-agency collaboration to rid Lagos of robbers and criminals.

Speaking with PUNCH, the lecturer who was caught on camera sexually harassing an undercover BBC reporter said making any comment would translate to running foul of UNILAG laws.

He had invited the teenager to his office for a number of tutorials, before delving into sexual conversations with her.

“This is unacceptable and requires systemic strategies to put a deterrence to such behaviour.

Update: American in EFCC’s Custody For Allegedly Defrauding Nigerians Of Green Card.

EFCC on Monday, October 7th arraigned an American, Marco Ramirez at an Ikeja Special Offences Court for allegedly defrauding two Nigerians in a bogus green card scam.

Ramirez alleged by the EFCC to be a serial fraudster was previously arraigned on June 22, 2017, before Justice Josephine Oyefeso, on 16-counts charge of conspiracy and obtaining under false pretences.

He was said to have defrauded three Nigerians – Amb. Godson Echejue, Mr Abubakar Umar and Mr Olukayode Sodimu of 545,000 dollars from February 2013 to August 2013 in Lagos. He had plead not guilty to the offences and was admitted to bail in the sum of $250,000.

However, midway to the defendant’s trial, the case file was transferred from Justice Oyefeso’s court to Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court for speedy conclusion of the case. On June 20, he was re-arraigned before Justice Mojisola Dada on an amended 12-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining under false pretences for defrauding Echejue, Umar and Sodimu of $1.2million.

He is standing trial in all the criminal suits alongside his companies – U.S.A Now LLC, Eagle Ford Instalodge Group LP and U.S.A Now Capital Group. Ramirez and his companies have however been arraigned on Monday by the EFCC on a fresh nine-count charge of obtaining money by false pretences.

He allegedly defrauding two more Nigerians – Gabriel Edeoghon and Oludare Talabi of 388,838 dollars. According to Vera Aigboje, the prosecuting counsel for the EFCC, Ramirez committed the alleged offences in 2013 and 2014 in Lagos.

“From May 22 to July 26, 2013, Ramirez on three occasions received a total of 291,290 dollars from Edeoghon. From Feb. 28, 2014 to April 17, 2014 Ramirez on six occasions received $97,549 from Talabi.

“He falsely represented to the defendants that the funds were investments into his companies in the Employment-Based Fifth Preference (EB-5) United States of America Investor Programme. Ramirez also falsely informed the complainants that their investments will qualify them to be eligible for a USA Green Card.

“The offences contravenes Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act,” Aigboje said.
Following the arraignment, the defence counsel, Mr Gboyega Oyewole, SAN, requested that the American enjoy the bail he had been granted by Justice Josephine Oyefeso in 2017.

“He has been on administrative bail in the earlier matter since 2017 on conditions which we feel are enough to guarantee his presence before this honourable court. The condition given by Justice Oyefeso is that he be admitted to bail in the sum of 250,000 dollars which was complied with and he was never absent in court,” Oyewole said.
Justice Dada obliged the SAN’s request and ordered that Certified True Copy (CTC) of Justice Oyefeso’s bail ruling be properly presented before the court. She adjourned the case until October 10 for trial.

Group – Sowore’s Stringent Bail Condition is Travesty of Justice.

A civil society organisation, Concerned Nigerians, has described the bail condition imposed on pro-democracy campaigner and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, as mockery of judiciary and travesty of justice.

The group disclosed this in a statement by its Convener, Deji Adeyanju, on Friday in Abuja.

The group said the condition was not only callous but an attempt to keep and deny the activist of his fundamental right of movement.

The statement said, “It makes mockery of our judicial system if the said offense allegedly committed by Omoyele Sowore would attract such conditions while the politicians who looted and still looting our commonwealth will be given light bail.

“We understand that it is the nature of the offence that determines the bail that is given to a defendant but in Sowore’s case, it is ridiculous and laughable.

“Bail must be exercised judiciously and judicially in order not to undermine the right of the defendant.”

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu had on Friday admitted the activist to bail in the sum N100m with two sureties in like sum.

One of the sureties must have landed property within the court’s jurisdiction with tax evidence for three years.

One of the sureties must own landed property and deposit N50m with the court.

Sowore was also barred from travelling outside Abuja and grant press interview by the court.

Also, co-defendant, Olawale Bakare widely known as Mandate, was asked to provide N50m as bail and not travel beyond Osun State.

Hilarious: See why I disguised to be a prostitute – Man Confessed.

The Lagos State police have arrested and arraigned a 29-year-old man that disguises as a prostitute to defraud unsuspecting club-goers.

Victor Monday who was arrested by police officers from Mushin Police Station for giving no genuine reason for being out by 12am at Ogunmokun Street, was in a female costume waiting for “a client” by the roadside when he was nabbed.

He was kept in the female cell until he got busted by a policeman on inspection. His beards aroused suspicion and a search revealed that he wore a wig, makeup and also had padded breasts. A police source said he blamed his fraudulent acts on not being employed.

“His mode of operation was to go to clubs at night and look for men he would spend the night with while disguising like a woman. He would dance around to attract men to himself. Whoever is interested in spending the night with him would approach him.

“He would collect some money from his unsuspecting victim as part payment for his service and have fun on his bill. While they were drinking and wining, he would tell the man that he wanted to urinate and use that opportunity to run away. He said he made between N7,000 and N10,000 per night,” the source said.

Confessing to the crime, the Rivers State indigene said he went into crime in 2018, got arrested by the police but secured his freedom after some his church members secured his bail.

He said, “I came to Lagos last year and was squatting around. When it was night, I would look for a hidden place to dress like a woman and go to any club to dance as a woman. Men who have feelings for me would give me money, but I don’t follow them to hotels. I managed to run away.

“At times, I made N8,000 per day. I was going to a nightclub on September 15 when police arrested me. I told them my name is Joy, but later one of them discovered that I am a man. I do this because I don’t have a job.”

The charge sheet against Victor who was arraigned before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court on four counts bordering on impersonation and fraud, read in part;

“That you, Victor Monday, on September 15, 2019, at 12.10am, on Ogunmokun Street, Akala area, Mushin, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did indecently act by presenting yourself as a woman in order to obtain money from members of the public, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 380 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N80, 000 with one surety in the like sum by the presiding magistrate Mrs M. O. Tanimola who also adjourned the case till October 16.
