Bandits have released the kidnapped councillor of the Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Alhaji Sahabi Abubakar, while the other councillor, Alhaji Lawal Gummi, has died in their hands.
Bandits abducted three councillors from the local government area of the state in March this year, demanding N40m ransom for their release. One of the councillors, Alhaji Murtala, Arzika escaped.
Abubakar, representing Birnin Tudu ward was let go after N7m ransom was allegedly paid.
A relation of the deceased councillor, Gummi, told our correspondent that his brother was a diabetic patient and lost his life due to lack of medication in the forest.
He said, “He was a diabetic patient and when he was kidnapped, he was not having any medicine with him.”
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Mohammed Shehu, said he was aware of the issue.
He, however, stressed that he was not aware of the money paid to bandits.
