15 injured, two killed in Kansas nightclub shooting

At least two persons were killed and 15 people were reportedly injured in a shooting outside a bar in Kansas City, United States, celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs NFL playoff victory over Tennessee Titans Sunday night.

The shooting took place shortly before midnight, when a gunman opened fire on a queue of people waiting to enter a bar, Mail Online reported.

Two persons were found dead, including a woman in the parking lot of the 9ine Ultra Lounge, police said.

A Facebook post on the club’s page advertised Sunday night’s ‘Sold Out Sundays’ event, which appeared to be a celebration of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Messi pays tribute to Former Manager Ernesto Valverde

…valverde, thanked club’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu

Sacked Barcelona coach, Ernesto Valverde has publicly thanked the club’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu and fans shortly after he was sacked.

Despite winning back-to-back league titles and guarding Barcelona to the top of La Liga Table, Valverde was dismissed on Monday following the club’s Spanish Super Cup semi-final 3 – 2 defeat to Atletico Madrid last week.

He has been replaced with former Real Betis coach, Quique Setien, who has signed a contract to be with Barcelona until June 2022.

In an open letter to the club’s supporters, posted on Barcelona’s official website, Valverde said: “My time as FC Barcelona coach has come to an end. It has been an intense two and a half years right from the start.

“In that time I have enjoyed some joyful moments celebrating victories and trophies but also others that have been tough and difficult.

“However, above all I would like to highlight my experience with the fans and the affection showed towards me during my time as coach.

“I would like to thank the president Josep Maria Bartomeu and the Board of Directors for giving me the opportunity to coach the first team and their confidence during all this time.

“I would also like to thank all the people I have worked with at the Club for their support and how they treated me during the two and a half seasons, especially those who work in and around the first team and with whom I have shared so many moments at the Ciutat Esportiva and during away trips.

“Of course, I would like to thank the players for all their efforts that have allowed us to claim four trophies together. From this day, I wish them all the luck in the world and to the new coach Quique Setién also.

“All the best to everyone. Visca Barça and Visca Catalonia.”

Barcelona’s Captain, Lionel Messi also took to Instagram to pen a heartfelt note to Ernesto Valverde.

Sharing photos of them chatting on the pitch, the Argentine star wrote:’Thanks for everything, mister. I’m sure you’ll go great wherever you go because, besides being a great professional, you’re a magnificent person. Good luck and a big hug.

Jose Mourinho give reason for his fears

José Mourinho has claimed that the making of a documentary about Tottenham’s season has been a distracting influence. mk

Since taking over from Mauricio Pochettino in November, Mourinho has overseen the club’s rise from 14th to seventh in the Premier League table, although Spurs have suffered a number of disappointing results along the way.

Jose Mourinho: “These guys (points to Amazon cameraman), these guys are 24 hours. Only when I go to the toilet they’re not coming with me! Apart from that they’re always with me….Only Amazon disturb me, not the cameras on matchday.” https://t.co/FnXZI7p0ys

The former Manchester United boss’ tenure will be documented in a series to be screened on Amazon. However, Mourinho has revealed that he has found the TV cameras that follow his every move distracting.

When asked if he was concerned about the attention that will be on him when Spurs take on Liverpool on Sunday, the 56-year-old quipped that he was used to being filmed constantly.

“I feel the cameras because they’ll be on my face. I walk in the tunnel it’s on my face, even before the game finishes the camera will be on my face,” he began.

“These guys (points to Amazon cameraman) these guys are 24 hours. Only when I go to the toilet they’re not coming with me! Apart from that they’re always with me.

“Of course I feel it. But disturb me? No, only Amazon disturb me, not the cameras on matchday. I don’t think about it. Of course it’s not me against Jurgen. Big match – Tottenham v Liverpool. Let’s enjoy it.”

The documentary will be released later in the year and speaking in October, Amazon’s director of European originals told the Telegraph that she was confident the series would be a success.

“We are delighted to be embarking on this journey with Tottenham Hotspur and delivering another extraordinary look at one of the most exciting teams in the Premier League,” Brown said.

“All or Nothing has become a franchise defined by true quality and unprecedented access, and that will be no different with this series.

“We can’t wait for Prime members worldwide to again experience the highs and lows of a world-class team in the greatest football league on earth.”

Ole Gunnar insists on not getting pushed around

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he doesn’t get pushed around in discussions with Ed Woodward over the club’s transfer policy.

The Norweigan has come under heavy criticism in recent weeks due to an apparent lack of urgency when it comes to improving his squad – with some fans specifically angered by some of Solskjaer’s post-match interviews.

Ahead of Manchester United’s match against Norwich City this weekend, Solskjaer was asked about his relationship with the club’s executive vice-chairman and if he gets enough of a say in their immediate transfer plans.

“Of course I am, of course we’ve got open discussions,” Solskjaer stressed, as quoted by FourFourTwo. “I wouldn’t say to you what I say to him. We are building towards something, I’m almost getting bored myself talking about what we do have as a vision and a plan. But it doesn’t change from August until now.”

Solskjaer dodged questions about their apparent interest in Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes, while the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, James Maddison and Jack Grealish have also been linked with a January move to Old Trafford.

But the 46-year-old claims he’s still working towards a long-term plan with Manchester United and isn’t interested in making high-profile signings just to save face.

“I’m not going to protect myself,” he added. “I’m here to do the best for the club, what I think and we feel is right.

“I’ll never, ever put myself before the club. There’s no ‘i’ in Manchester and there’s no ‘i’ in this team. I could never, ever do that, that’s not me. I’m working for Man United.

“It wouldn’t always be the worst thing you can do to put a short-term fix in if it’s good for the group here and now, but you wouldn’t put yourself in a situation that you’ve done something that you regret in 18 months’ time.

“We’ve got to do due diligence – that’s character of players, quality of players and right fit into this squad.”

EPL: Liverpool finalised jersey contract with Nike

Premier league leaders, Liverpool have finalized a staggering £80m per year Jersey deal with Nike, a British record which surpasses the £75m deal signed between Manchester United and Adidas.

The deal will commence from June 1, 2020 and allows Nike to supply Kits for the senior men’s team, women’s side, academy squads, coaching staff and Liverpool FC Foundation.

Real Madrid (£98m) and Barcelona (£100m) are the only European football teams who will earn more than Liverpool through kit sponsorship.

Liverpool said in a statement on it’s website, Tuesday. ‘Liverpool Football Club is delighted to announce Nike, the world’s leading footwear and apparel company, as its official kit supplier from the 2020-21 season.

‘The partnership coincides with our move into a new, state-of-the-art training facility in Kirkby for the 2020-21 season, a project that includes investment in improved sport facilities for the local community.’

Liverpool’s managing director Billy Hogan added: ‘Our iconic kit is a key part of our history and identity. We welcome Nike into the LFC family as our new official kit supplier and expect them to be an incredible partner for the club, both at home and globally as we continue to expand our fan base.

Manchester United includes Norwich city’s Todd cantwell to their list.

Yep, that’s right. Just as we thought we were running out of young, British talents to be linked with Manchester United, it seems it is Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell’s turn to join the merry-go-round.

The 21-year-old has been one of this season’s surprise packages, as after falling out of favour towards the end of the Canaries’ Championship-winning season, he has gone on to score six goals and assist a further two in 21 Premier League appearances.

It’s been an impressive return for the versatile attacking midfielder, particularly in a struggling Norwich team that sit bottom of the league and seven points from safety.

“No one can tell me nothing. Written off, not strong enough, not quick enough, not worthy of the number 14 shirt! Well listen up I’m on my way to the top and no-one is going to stop me! So listen to anyone striving forward and being told all this sh*t tell them “ I got this” 🦁”

But if they are destined for relegation, then it seems the hyenas are not waiting around to pick at the scraps.

The Mail, while reaffirming those tired links with James Maddison, Jack Grealish and, you guessed it, Sean Longstaff, now credit United with a vested interest in Cantwell, and say they could make a move for him this month.

They say this interest is tied to injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, which have United rethinking their January transfer policy. They are keen to secure midfield cover for the remainder of the season and beyond, and Cantwell – rated at £30m – could offer just that.

It perhaps wouldn’t be a dissimilar signing to Swansea winger Dan James, who has chipped in with a decent haul of three goals and seven assists since joining United in the summer – starting all but two of their league games.

Elsewhere, the Longstaff interest alluded to by the Mail is backed up by reports elsewhere, that say United could move for either the Newcastle star or out-of-favour Juventus star Emre Can in a bid to ease their injury crisis.

And if we weren’t already convinced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for a new midfielder this month, then there is also reported interest in Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes, whose representatives are believed to have been in the UK for talks over the New Year.

Diego Alonso becomes Inter’s new coach.

…defeat Patrick Vieira

Two months before David Beckham’s new franchise football club Inter Miami makes it debut in America’s Major League Soccer (MLS), the club has appointed Diego Alonso as it’s new coach, after he beat off stiff competition from Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira and River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo to clinch the job.

Beckham who owns major stakes in the club and is projected as the face of the club, was impressed by Diego’s CV and intelligence and chose to offer him the role.

£2m debt: Arturo Vidal of Barcelona Sues club.

Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal has sued his own club over claims they owe him £2million in bonuses from last season.

The Chilean midfielder believes he is owed extras from the team’s qualification to the knockout and quarter-finals of the Champions League, and says he should have received payments after Barcelona won the title.

In a report by Spanish outlet ABC, the player’s lawyers filed a lawsuit against his employers on December 5, outlining a list of bonuses that Vidal was supposedly entitled to.

Vidal was set to receive an extra £2m in bonuses if he featured in 60 percent of games last season, and he played 53 matches in all competitions. But the club claim he does not qualify because he did not play a minimum of 45 minutes per game, saying the lawyers have misinterpreted his contract.

Arturo Vidal

He has allegedly been paid £1.4m, but says he is owed a total of £3.5m with Marca claiming in their report that the lawsuit could be a ploy by Vidal and his lawyers to secure a move for him away from Barcelona.

Arturo Vidal, who is being linked with a move to Inter Milan has made just six starts for the club this season.

1-0: Liverpool beats Flamengo to win club world cup final in Doha.

Roberto Firmino was again the hero for Liverpool as the forward’s extra-time goal allowed Jurgen Klopp’s side to beat Flamengo 1-0 in the Club World Cup final in Doha on Saturday and lift the trophy for the first time.

Firmino was picked out by Sadio Mane and waited for goalkeeper Diego Alves to commit before slotting low into the net in the 99th minute of an absorbing contest at the Khalifa International Stadium.

It was the moment that finally punctured the hopes of the Brazilian side and their vibrant support, after Liverpool had been denied a penalty by VAR at the end of normal time.

The Qatari referee initially gave a spot-kick for a foul on Mane by Rafinha on the way into the box, but changed his mind following a lengthy review, forcing the contest into an extra 30 minutes.

Still, the European champions had enough to come out on top, with Firmino repeating his semi-final heroics, when he scored an injury-time goal to secure victory against Monterrey of Mexico.

The win allows Liverpool to complete a fabulous year with a third piece of silverware to go with the Champions League and UEFA Supercup.

Having earned the title of world champions, if Klopp’s team can see out their huge lead at the top of the Premier League this season, they will have a case to be remembered as the finest side in the illustrious history of the club.

Flamengo had been hoping to repeat their win over Liverpool in the old Intercontinental Cup back in 1981 and thereby become the first non-European winners of the Club World Cup since fellow Brazilians Corinthians beat Chelsea in 2012.

They fell short, but they certainly gave the Premier League leaders a game in what was their last outing of a long season.

– Van Dijk back, Firmino hits post –

Klopp had welcomed back Virgil van Dijk after the inspirational Dutchman sat out Wednesday’s semi-final due to illness.

That allowed skipper Jordan Henderson to return to his usual midfield berth, while Firmino, Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold were all recalled after starting on the bench against the Mexicans.

Firmino, Naby Keita and Alexander-Arnold all came close for Liverpool in the first six minutes as they came flying out of the traps.

Fielding the same team that started their semi-final win over Al Hilal, the Brazilian and South American champions gradually settled into the game, spurred on by their raucous travelling support.

Bruno Henrique, the star of their semi-final victory, had their best opportunity in the first half, coming inside from the left to meet a long ball forward by goalkeeper Alves before seeing his shot deflected past.

The Rio giants, with veteran Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus on the touchline, matched the European champions for much of the first half but were lucky not to fall behind at the beginning of the second period.

Less than two minutes after the restart, Firmino controlled Henderson’s ball forward and sent a shot off the inside of the post before seeing it rebound away.

However, Liverpool also needed goalkeeper Alisson to come to the rescue with a fine stop from a Gabriel Barbosa strike, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain then went off injured as extra time began to loom.

Then Alves stretched high to his left to tip a net-bound Henderson shot from 25 yards over the bar before, with the match in injury time, the English side thought they had a penalty for Rafinha’s tackle on Mane.

However, referee Abdulrahman Al Jassim dramatically cancelled the decision after coming across to review the footage on a pitchside monitor.

Liverpool finally found a way through nine minutes into the first half of extra time though, with Mane finding Firmino after being pushed wide of goal by Rafinha.

Firmino made no mistake, and Flamengo were unable to respond.

Everton confirms Carlo Ancelotti as new manager.

…says he is the perfect appointment

English Premiership side, Everton has confirmed Italian Carlo Ancelotti as the Club new manager.

Marcel Brands, Everton’s Director of Football, said: “Following a rigorous process conducted by all of our Directors, it is a pleasure to now welcome Carlo Ancelotti to Everton. He is one of the finest managers in world football and a proven winner, having achieved a remarkable level of success in each of Europe’s major leagues.

“He is the perfect appointment for us. He embraces our vision for the Club and we are sure that his enthusiasm to take the helm at Goodison together with his tactical abilities and well-renowned man-management will make him successful in this role.

This was a clear and exciting decision for the Board to make. It was a unanimous choice and one we were all fully united behind throughout.

Carlo has proven time and again, he knows how to build a trophy-winning side and we share the excitement of our fans at the prospect of him leading our team in the years ahead. We’re all greatly looking forward to working with him.”

Ancelotti, who recently quit Napoli, will attend today’s Premier League match against Arsenal at Goodison as a spectator with the Club’s Owner and Chairman prior to meeting the players and taking up his new role from Sunday.

Ancelotti’s first match in the dugout will be the visit of Burnley to Goodison Park on Boxing Day, the club announced.

“This is a great club with a rich history and a very passionate fan base. There is a clear vision from the Owner and the Board to deliver success and trophies.

That is something that appeals to me as a manager and I am thrilled at the prospect of being able to work with everybody at the Club to help make that vision a reality.

“I have seen from the performances in the last two weeks that the players are capable of so much. The work Duncan has done is a great credit to him.

Strong organisation, strong discipline and the right motivation are some of the key ingredients in football and I’m pleased that he will be part of my backroom team moving forward,” Ancelotti said.

I will create winning mentality – Mikel Arteta Promise Arsenal.

…to convince the players

Mikel Arteta says he will try to install a “winning mentality” at Arsenal after being appointed as Unai Emery’s successor in north London.

It’s the 37-year-old’s first step into management after spending three years working alongside Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, where Arteta has been credited for having a major impact on their success.

But after returning to the club where he spent the last five years of his playing career, Arteta says Arsenal’s players have to be prepared to accept “a different way of thinking” if they want to start being successful once again.

“I have to try to convince the players about what I want to do and how I want to do it,” Arteta said, quoted by The Telegraph. “They have to start accepting a different process, a different way of thinking, and I want to get all the staff and everybody at the club with the same mindset.

“We have to build a culture that has to sustain the rest. If you do not have the right culture, in the difficult moments the tree is going to shake.

“So, my job is to convince everybody that this is how we are going to live, and if you are going to be part of this organisation it has to be in these terms and in this way.

“What I have learnt [from Guardiola] is mostly that you have to be ruthless. You have to be consistent and you have to fit every day the culture of the club to create a winning mentality.”

Arteta has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with Arsenal and will be watching on as Freddie Ljungberg takes charge of his last game against Everton on Saturday.

Arsenal’s new boss will be in the dugout for the first time when they face Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth on Boxing Day.

Napoli’s Ancelotti sacked despite champions league wins…

Napoli have sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti less than three hours after he guided them into the Champions League knockout stages…

The Serie A club had not won in nine games in all competitions until Tuesday’s 4-0 success at home to Genk.

Ancelotti was in his second season in charge of Napoli but they sit seventh in the league after that poor run.ADVERTISEMENT

They are the only team to beat Liverpool in 90 minutes this season, defeating the Reds 2-0 in September.

Last month the manager and Napoli players were in a high-profile dispute with president Aurelio de Laurentiis.

De Laurentiis ordered the team to attend a week-long training camp but Ancelotti and his players all returned home.

Ancelotti, who won the Premier League and FA Cup Double with Chelsea in 2009-10, has been linked with the vacant managers’ jobs at Arsenal and Everton.

He is one of only three managers to win three European Cups/Champions Leagues – along with Liverpool legend Bob Paisley and current Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.

Ancelotti won two Champions Leagues with AC Milan and one with Real Madrid, as well as domestic titles with Milan, Chelsea, Paris St-Germain and Bayern Munich.

He did not appear to know an announcement was imminent after the win over Genk, when he said: “I’ll speak to president De Laurentiis tomorrow and we’ll make the best decision for Napoli.

“As far as I’m concerned, with certain players coming back and the right conditions in place, this team can still target fourth place.

“The win tonight is a weight off our shoulders and can give the players a big boost for the future.”

But a tweet later that evening simply read:“SSC Napoli has taken the decision to part ways with first-team coach Carlo Ancelotti.

“The friendship and mutual respect between the club, president Aurelio de Laurentiis and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact.”

Reports in the Italian media suggest that Gennaro Gattuso, sacked by AC Milan at the end of last season, has been lined up as Ancelotti’s replacement
