Former Senator Buruji Kashamu was reported dead on Saturday.
He died due to complications of COVID-19, his former colleague, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce said in a tweet.
“I have just lost my good friend of forever to #COVID19,” Murray-Bruce said. “Until his death, Sen. Buruji Kashamu and I were inseparable.
“He died today at First Cardiology Consultants, in Lagos. May his gentle soul rest in peace. I pray his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this heavy loss.”
Kashamu served as a Senator representing Ogun-East in the eighth National Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He was 62.
He joins a list of prominent Nigerians who have succumbed to the novel coronavirus.
Former Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari and former Governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi, have also passed on from COVID-19 complications.
Kashamu’s family is yet to issue an official statement regarding his death.

Former Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial district, Ben Murray-Bruce has taken to his Twitter account to pay tribute to former Bayelsa Governorship apsirant, Keniebi Okoko.
The billionaire politician died while reportedly undergoing a liposuction surgery in Lagos on April 14. It was gathered that he died in the theater room in Lagos because of power outage, as the back up generator refused to come up.
Ben Murray-Bruce who confirmed the death of the deceased on Twitter, described him as a “star”. He also sent out condolences to all the loved ones Keniebi left behind.
I am saddened by the news of the death of my friend and brother, Keniebi Okoko. The Ijaw Nation and indeed Nigeria has lost a star. My condolences to all the loved ones my friend, Keniebi, left behind. May his soul rest in peace.
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has condoled with Senator Ben Murray-Bruce over the death of his wife, Evelyn Murray-Bruce.
Lawan commiserated with the entire family of the Senator who represented Bayelsa East Senatorial District in the Eighth Senate and the people of Bayelsa State over the tragic loss.
He said the late Mrs Murray- Bruce was a pillar of support for her husband and their entire family, saying her untimely passage has left a void that will be difficult to fill.
Lawan urged Senator Murray-Bruce to take solace from the enviable life that she lived and the fond memories she left with all those whose lives she touched.
The Senate President prayed that God will comfort the Senator, the children and other loved ones she left behind and grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
