Authur heads back to Barcelona

Advertisements

Arthur Melo is planning to travel to Catalonia in the next 24 hours to personally negotiate the termination of his contract with Barcelona.

The Brazil international didn’t return to training with his teammates after LaLiga Santander ended in July.

As a result of his absence, Barcelona have stated that they may punish the 23-year-old midfielder with a financial sanction.

Advertisements

For his part, Arthur hasn’t changed his mind and insists that he is not willing to play for the Blaugrana again.

The Brazilian feels mistreated by the Catalan club for the way they handled his departure to Juventus in order to balance their books.

Since the moment he agreed to join the Old Lady, his relationship with Quique Setien has been non-existent.

Arthur hasn’t played a single minute for Barcelona since his move to Juventus became official.

‘Authur? He is committed to Barcelona the last time I checked’ – Malcom

Advertisements

Former Barcelona forward Malcom believes fellow Brazilian Arthur Melo will soon become one of the best players in the world.

Malcom himself signed for Barcelona in 2018 with a view to cementing a place in the Blaugrana’s engine room.

The competition was ultimately too fierce though, and he moved to Zenit St Petersburg last summer, where he has won the Russian league and cup competitions this term.

Arthur has caused a stir at Barcelona for refusing to compete in the Champions League, but Malcom doesn’t doubt his former teammate’s commitment.

“He’s a good friend and someone I talk to a lot. Within a few years he’ll be one of the best players in the world,” he told Radio MARCA.

“He’s committed to Barcelona, and always works hard to maintain his level.”

Despite not succeeding at Barcelona, Malcom was proud of representing the club.

Advertisements

“It was always my dream to play for Barcelona,” he stated.

“And I did it, whilst also playing every day with the best players in the world.

“I’ll be able to tell my kids and grandkids that I played for that team.”

Another Brazilian at Barcelona who looks set to be offloaded is Philippe Coutinho.

“He’s one of the best players in the world,” Malcom said.

“He’s got so much quality and a wonderful long shot.

“Wherever he goes he’ll play, because he’s just a fantastic footballer.”

Malcom moved to deny rumours linking himself away from Zenit Saint Petersburg.

“I’m very happy at Zenit,” he declared.

“I’ve seen reports linking me with Sevilla, but that’s fake news.

“I’m staying here.”

Authur to face sanction from Barcelona as he misses PHR tests

Advertisements

The player is currently in his native Brazil and was the only member of the first team not to undergo coronavirus testing.

Everything points to Arthur Melo having pulled on the FC Barcelona shirt for the last time with the club having already agreed a move for the player with Juventus. Pictures of the midfielder yawning in the Camp Nou stands during the LaLiga game against Osasuna did nothing to help his already strained relationship with the club with Quique Setién leaving the Brazilian out of the squad for the final league game of the season against Alavés with the player claiming he had an ankle injury.

Advertisements

Another episode occurred yesterday to further distance between the player and the club as the Brazilian was the only squad member to miss PCR testing at the Ciutat Esportiva as the club look ahead to the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Napoli. Barcelona ‘B’ players Iñaki Peña and Ronald Araujo were also tested despite a late return from Malaga where they were playing as the ‘B’ team were involved in the Segunda B play-off finals.

His failure to be tested will now rule the player out of being able to train with the squad as current health protocol demands that all players are tested before participating in activity for the club.

Arthur will now remain in his native Brazil as his agents negotiate and earlier termination to his current contract and this has been fundamental in the Catalan club opening disciplinary proceedings against the player.

Arthur Melo has reportedly informed Barcelona that he has no intention to play for the club again.

Following his transfer to Juventus, Quique Setien stopped relying on the Brazilian midfielder in the last stretch of the LaLiga Santander season.

According to Sport, Arthur has not appeared after the Barcelona squad were given the week off by his coach following the end of the LaLiga Santander campaign.

The rest of the Blaugrana players returned and passed their coronavirus tests on Monday.

In contrast with Arthur, Miralem Pjanic’s behaviour has been exemplary at Juventus after the swap deal between the Old Lady and Barcelona was made official.

His coach Maurizio Sarri even hailed his attitude and his commitment to the team.

“I don’t know what Arthur’s situation is and I’m not interested,” Sarri said.

“Pjanic is really involved in the group.

“I have no doubts about his morality and professionalism.”

Authur to travel to Turin after Celta Vigo’s clash

Advertisements

Arthur Melo will seal his move to Juventus on Sunday, with the Brazilian having reached a five-year deal in a move that will see Miralem Pjanic head the other way to Barcelona.

The 23-year-old will now undergo his medical examination, polish the final aspects of the agreement and sign his contract with Juventus.

Arthur will return to Barcelona with the rest of the team after the match against Celta Vigo and then immediately fly from Barcelona to Turin with his father.

On Sunday morning, he is expected to pass his medical before flying back to Barcelona in the afternoon.

One important question remains to be defined and that is whether Arthur will remain at Barcelona after July 1.

At first, the idea is that he will finish the season with the Blaugrana.

In fact, on Monday he will train with Quique Setien, but it is a matter that Arthur still has to define with Juventus.

Just as Arthur will undergo his medical examination with the Bianconeri, Pjanic could do the same with Barcelona, although this aspect is not confirmed.

The agreement between Arthur Melo and Juventus is now a reality. As is the deal between Pjanic and Barcelona and between the two clubs. The three parties are now all on the same pages and the deal, which has been brewing for months, is finally in the final stages. The last part was convincing Arthur to embark on a new adventure in Italy.

Up until a few days ago, the Brazilian midfielder was still adamant that he wanted to succeed at Barça at any cost. In the end, he’s accepted a move to Juve, where he will earn more money (5 million plus bonuses) and will sign a five-year deal. Meanwhile, Pjanic was always open to the Barça move and will sign a five-year deal earning around 7.5 million.

Arthur, 23, seven years Pjanic’s junior, is expected to travel to Turin this week to undergo a medical, according to RAC1. Barça will give him permission to head to the north of Italy. Despite that, Pjanic, like Arthur, will remain with their current teams until the end of the Champions League in August.

‘There’s no declaration that Authur is leaving’ – Setien

Advertisements

Barcelona face Celta Vigo at Balaidos on Saturday night, but Quique Setien had to deal with a series of questions about Arthur Melo.

The Brazilian is seemingly very close to joining Juventus, yet the Barcelona boss still has the 23-year-old in his plans.

“In principle I’m counting on him,” Setien said of Arthur.

“He’s going to travel [to Vigo] and has a chance to play tomorrow.

“The important thing is that this does not affect him and that, if he plays, he is at his best.”

Advertisements

In spite of the overwhelming reports about Arthur departing, the coach hasn’t received any news from those upstairs at the club.

“I don’t take that for granted,” Setien stated.

“The club haven’t informed me that he’s leaving.

“And even if it has already happened, he’s going to stay with us until the final training session [of the season].

“If that happens, I’ll try to convince him that he should leave a good memory.

Advertisements

“The most important thing is to be honest until the last day and I’m convinced that he is.”

Given how Ansu Fati and Riqui Puig positively impacted Barcelona’s 1-0 win against Athletic Club on Tuesday, there are more and more calls from supporters for the two La Masia products to play more.

“I don’t pay much attention to everything that is said and talked about because there are so many opinions and so varied, that few people agree on,” Setien said.

“I usually listen, but there are other issues that influence me more when it comes to deciding.

“They are objective questions about what I see and believe.”

Advertisements

Real Madrid are the favourites in the race to lift LaLiga Santander as, despite being level on points with Barcelona, they have the head-to-head advantage.

“I still believe it’s possible,” Setien commented.

“It’s hard for both of us to win everything.

“They’re in a good place in lots of things – so are we.

“I hope they make a mistake and we catch them.”

Advertisements

Barcelona will come up against Rafinha Alcantara on Saturday, who is on loan at Celta until the end of this season, and Setien is a fan.

“He’s playing very well, at a great level, just like his team,” he said.

“As soon as the team lifted its spirit, each player began to show what they are capable of.

“There are players at Celta that I like a lot.

“When they link up, it immediately affects the team’s performance.”

Barca & Juve to complete Authur-Pjanic deal within 48hrs

Advertisements

It appears that the swap deal between Barcelona and Juventus for Arthur Melo and Miralem Pjanic is edging ever closer.

According to Sky Sports Italia journalist, Gianluca DiMarzio, via his website gianlucadimarzio.com, there are small details to iron out but the deal is expected to be concluded within the next 48 hours.

Melo, though he hasn’t lived up to the ‘new Xavi’ hype that accompanied his purchase by the Catalans, still has years ahead of him during which to improve, and is precisely the sort of player to fit Barca’s style.

Further, at 23 years of age, it could be said that he’s at least five years away from his peak as a player, whereas Pjanic, who it’s believed will cost Barca €60m plus bonuses, per gianlucadimarzio.com, is already 30 and therefore has limited time left at the top level.

Advertisements

The strategy of the swap deal between Arthur and Pjanić is comparable with the swap deal executed last summer between Cillessen and Neto. Barça will receive around 70 million euros for Arthur, to balance the books before June 30th, and will then pay a little less for Pjanić, per Mundo Deportivo.

Arthur has taken his farewell at Barcelona for granted and awaits the agreement between Barcelona and Juventus to be fully finalised. The announcement of the swap deal between him and Pjanić could be announced as early as this week.

Authur agrees to Juve Whooping Contract

Advertisements

With rumours having been swirling since the beginning of the break in competition, Barcelona have made the first step in their summer rebuilding project with Arthur Melo reaching a total agreement with Juventus.

After a fee was agreed between the two clubs on Wednesday, the final accord between the former Gremio star and the Italian giants came on Thursday.

Having been sceptical of a move away from the Camp Nou, Arthur had already rejected a previous advance from the Turin club, but has now agreed to a five-year contract which will seem him earn a net salary of around 7 million euros per year.

Advertisements

This is a significant increase on the 3m euros he earns in Catalonia, and it also allows the Blaugrana to reshape their own midfield by pursuing Miralem Pjanic.

With his aforementioned reservations about leaving Los Cules having been made abundantly clear it may come as a surprise that he has agreed to leave, yet there are several reasons why.

Pressure from both clubs to make the move a reality had left his position at Barcelona very difficult, and in the meeting he had with Eric Abidal and Ramon Planes, they warned him of the club’s dire financial situation and that he may have to take a pay cut.

Whilst these measures were set to be implemented for the whole squad and not just the Brazilian, it was the acknowledgment that competition for places in midfield would make it unlikely he will play much next season.

Advertisements

Furthermore, Juventus’ representatives made such a play for the midfielder that he was left with a feeling of complete respect from the defending Italian champions.

Maurizio Sarri wants him in his team at all costs and had declared him a fundamental signing for Juventus in the summer of 2020, something which ensures Arthur will get the playing time he wants.

Whilst an agreement was reached for Arthur’s sale on Wednesday, for a fee of between 70 and 80 million euros, there hasn’t yet been progress with regards to Pjanic.

The Bosnian will leave for the Camp Nou this summer, it’s almost certain, but Barcelona are looking to find a way to pay the 60m euros Juventus are demanding, and only when that happens will there be an official announcement.

The Arthur-Pjanic swap deal is advancing, although there’s still nothing closed. The Italian club have made a final attempt to reach an agreement with Arthur and hope to convince him to sign this week on a five-year deal. The deal between the club is done save the minor details. Arthur will go for 80 million euros and Pjanic will join for 70, so Juve will pay 10 more. The accountable benefit for Barça would be more than 65 million.

Juve have continued to work hard on the deal. So far, Arthur has always made it clear his intention is to remain at Barça. He’s the only player Juve were ready to negotiate a swap deal for because he’s valued by coach Maurizio Sarri.

Both clubs have agreed the deal financially. Barça have followed Pjanic for months and Setien feels he could be an important player to give dynamism to the new project. He’s a technical midfielder who likes to play touch football. He stands out for his passing and his organisation skills. In addition, it’s a deal that helps the club financially, as they need to bring in cash before June 30 to balance the books.

Advertisements

Juve sporting director Fabio Paraticci confirmed the negotiations but they still need to agree a contract with Arthur. The Brazilian could quadruple his wages in Italy but the deal is not signed. Paraticci has given Pjanic the green light to negotiate with Barça and the Bosnian has agreed a four-year deal.

Pjanic also had offers from PSG and Chelsea but always prioritised Barça and refused to negotiate with other clubs.

Juventus have agreed a £72.5m (€80m) fee with Barcelona to sign Arthur, per NS reliable source.

Despite the Brazil midfielder last month telling both clubs that he did not want to leave, the Italians are still hoping to persuade him.

NobleSports have been told Maurizio Sarri wants to build his midfield around him in a similar way to that of Jorginho at Napoli and Chelsea.

They have also offered the 23-year-old more wages than his current deal at Barca. According to Sky Italy, that offer is £4.5m (€5m) a year.

Arthur is expected to play for Barca tonight against Athletic Bilbao, and Sky Sports News has been told his preference is still to stay at the Nou Camp and fight for his place.

The two clubs are also said to want to conclude the transfer before June 30 – but Juve sporting director Fabio Paritici has denied this.

He has admitted publicly, however, that player still needs to be convinced.

Juventus aims Barca’s Coutinho as Authur’s alternative

Juventus have become the latest club to be linked with Philippe Coutinho, who is currently on loan at Bayern Munich from Barcelona, after Arthur Melo decided to turn down the opportunity to move to Turin.

Advertisements

Coutinho has lacked consistency during his loan spell with Bayern and, as a result, he has been limited to just 15 starts in the Bundesliga in 2019/20. Overall, he has made 22 appearances in Germany’s top division and has contributed eight goals and six assists.

These aren’t disastrous figures, but Bayern are said to be unwilling to fork out around €120m to land the Brazilian on a permanent basis. As a result, Coutinho’s future has been the topic of much discussion, with Barça also open to offloading him. However, La Blaugrana are said to be looking for a staggering €100m for his services this summer.

Calciomercato (via the Mirror) now report that Juventus are ‘eyeing’ up a move for Coutinho after being rejected by Arthur. This has forced the Italian giants to look for alternatives, and they have now made the 27-year-old a target.

Advertisements

Arthur has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus in recent times, most notably mentioned as being included in a swap deal involving himself and Miralem Pjanic. However, the Brazilian has shown no interest in wanting to join Juventus, instead expressing his desire to stay put.

As a result, this has put Barça’s plans to sign Pjanic on hold, but I Bianconeri’s interest in Coutinho could kickstart talks once again. The problem for any deal, however, would be the valuation of the players, specifically Coutinho. Despite interest from a number of Premier League clubs, no club has actually shown a willingness to pay the €100m fee being demanded by Barça, considering his disappointing displays in recent seasons.

This deal could potentially suit both parties, but like many other suitors in Coutinho, the price could well prove to be an issue.

Juventus looses interest in Authur

Arthur Melo has reiterated that he intends to stay at Barcelona and nothing has been able to change his mind.

Advertisements

As a result, Juventus have given up trying to sign him.

Barcelona had considered the possibility of using Arthur as part of a deal to bring Miralem Pjanic to the Camp Nou, but the former Gremio midfielder hasn’t thought about leaving for one second.

Despite Arthur’s insistence in staying at Barcelona, Juventus have also given up on trying to keep Pjanic, who has insisted on a move to the Blaugrana anyway.

Barcelona are now looking to exchange other players to sign the Bosnian, such as Nelson Semedo, Arturo Vidal, Jean-Clair Todibo and Ousmane Dembele.

Juventus, meanwhile, have turned their attention to other midfield targets in order to replace Pjanic this summer.

They include Jorginho, who worked with Maurizio Sarri at Napoli and Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain’s Leandro Paredes.

Juve asks for De Jong inplace for Authur to seal Pjanic transfer

With Arthur Melo refusing to leave Barcelona, Juventus have asked for Frenkie de Jong in the exchange deal with Miralem Pjanic instead.

Advertisements

Multiple sources stated today that Arthur will not accept any transfer away from Camp Nou this summer, scuppering the planned swap with Pjanic.

As the two clubs and Pjanic are still fully agreed on the deal, they are trying to find an alternative name who can make the switch to Turin.

According to RMC Sport, one of the contenders is former Ajax midfielder De Jong.

He’d be able to reunite with his old teammate Matthijs de Ligt and has not quite settled in to life at Barcelona.

Advertisements

However, the 23-year-old cost €75m only a year ago and Barcelona would not accept letting him go so soon.

Curiously, Dutch legend Louis van Gaal said in March that “Frenkie de Jong should have gone to Juventus. Barca lack more a De Ligt type player than De Jong.”

‘Barcelona all the way’ strong desire by Authur

Barcelona’s Arthur will not be joining Juventus this summer.

Advertisements

The 23-year-old Brazil midfielder has reiterated to both clubs that he does not want to leave the Nou Camp in the next transfer window, Sky Sports News has been told.

That message has been relayed to both the Barca and Juve hierarchies after reports emerged he was being discussed in a potential swap deal for Juve’s Miralem Pjanic.

The Catalan club need to sell players to raise funds or strike part-exchange deals for new additions this summer, following a huge outlay last year and the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Barca would be open to offers for a clutch of first-team players, but they will have to find a different name to tempt Juventus into a swap for the 30-year-old Bosnian.

Arthur spoke out last month after being discussed in a potential part-exchange with Inter Milan for Barca’s top target Lautaro Martinez, insisting “the only option I’m interested in is staying at Barcelona”.

Advertisements

Despite reports that Quique Setien was open to Arthur leaving, NobleSports has also been told the head coach still sees a future for him at the club.

Arthur scored three goals and set up three more across 16 La Liga appearances in his first season since a £27m move from Brazilian side Gremio.

Authur-Pjanic step close for swap deal but Authur shows no decision yet

The Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo is closer to Juventus. That’s at least what is being reported in the Italian newspaper Tuttosport on Sunday. A report claims the Barcelona coach, Quique Setien, has given the green light to the signing of the Bosnian Miralem Pjanic and the two clubs are close to an exchange agreement.

Advertisements

According to this information. Barça and Juve have valued both midfielders at 60 million euros, which would see both clubs bring in an ‘important’ amount of money. Both Juve and Barcelona also feel it’s a good deal on a sporting level. The Turin-based side plan to bet on the Uruguayan, Rodrigo Bentancur, 22, and have decided to let Pjanic, 30, leave.

The only problem for Juventus is that Arthur remains reluctant to leave Camp Nou. The same is not true of Pjanic. The Bosnian has given his permission to the deal. The main reason is the chance to play alongside Lionel Messi.

For Real? Could Authur be willing to leave Barca for juve?

Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo could, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, be willing to swap places with Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic after all.

The Brazilian has been linked with an exchange deal including the Bosnia international but has repeatedly claimed he wants to stay at Camp Nou.

But the reports in Italian and Spanish media won’t go away and now the Milan based newspaper claims the 23-year-old has opened for a move to the Allianz Stadium.

One small step forward for the proposed negotiations, as the two clubs will need to agree on a swap deal to look after their budgets after the financial crisis caused by the current pandemic.

The Blaugrana star has appeared 16 times in La Liga this season, contributing three goals and three assists in the process.

Inter & Juventus interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Arthur

Inter and Juventus are both interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the Brazilian midfielder, who is contracted to the Blaugrana until 2024, is one the players identified by Inter that could be included in a possible deal for Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez in the summer. The Catalan club believe that the Nerazzurri forward would be the perfect replacement for the aging Luis Suarez, with club legend Lionel Messi also wanting Lautaro to join the club.

Juventus are also interested in signing Arthur, the report continues, and would happily offer them Bosnian midfielder Miralem Pjanic in exchange. Pjanic seems likely to leave Turin in the summer as the Old Lady look to strengthen the midfield and build it around a younger core group of players.

Arthur has made 23 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1362 minutes. In that time, he has scored four goals and provided four assists.

Barcelona ‘have no interest in selling Arthur when the transfer window opens’

Barcelona midfielder Arthur has become the centre of attention for many of Europe’s top clubs. At the Camp Nou, they are surprised by the interest from elsewhere but the current plan is to keep hold of the Brazilian. The only way this would change is if someone offered them a deal too good to refuse.
Arthur has been in and out of the Barça team mainly due to his fitness issues.

However Quique Setien, like Ernesto Valverde before him, are admirers of the talented midfielder and believe he has a future at the club.

His range of passing, the way he controls the tempo and can play both defensively and offensively mean he has a unique style set.

Inter Milan, alongside various Premier League sides, have all tentatively enquired about Arthur’s situation at Barça.PSX_20200425_100412

The response was that the midfielder wouldn’t be included in any swap deals and that he’d cost at least €60m. Arthur is still young and has huge potential. After a period of adaptation, there’s hope that we’ll see the best of the midfielder next season.

Arthur is also one of the lowest-paid members of the current squad. Barça intend to hand him a new contract once football resumes.

Juventus offer players to sign Arthur but Barca’s dream is still De Ligt

Juventus are very interested in signing Arthur and offer some players, some of whom are valued at Barca, according to MD.

Arthur Melo is called to be one of the most coveted players of Barcelona in the next transfer market.

Juventus is pressing for him. Barça is very interested in signing Juventus’s players and Juve offers players to sign Arthur. Bentancur, Bernardeschi, Demiral and De Sciglio are valued at Barça, but Barça’s dream is still De Ligt.

The Italian taxation, advantage for Arthur

If Arthur decided to take the step that has to do with more favorable taxation in Italy for foreigners than in Spain since he would only pay 30% of his income in the north of the country. In Catalonia, on the other hand, the high-income tax rate is 48%. That was one of the reasons why De Ligt ended up in Turin.
