Your reluctancy could trigger another civil war – AYF tells Buhari.

To the forum, the government should show leadership and work with other stakeholders to bring about hope, peace and unity among Nigerians.

Disturbed by the prevailing tension across the country caused by activities of armed Fulani herdsmen, Arewa Youth Forum (AYF) has urged Federal Government to urgently douse the situation to prevent outbreak of another civil war.

The northern youths made the call in a statement signed by its National President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Gujungu, yesterday, in Kaduna.

They said: “The Arewa Youth Forum is worried by the prevailing impasse and rising tension across the country precipitated by the quit notice given to Fulani herdsmen by the Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and the actions that had trailed that incident.

“As it stands, owning to the actions of non-state actors and inaction of state actors, mainly the Federal Government and the state governors, the country is fast drifting and action must be taken immediately to stem this drift.

“After keeping silent for a long time, the Federal Government has, again, resorted to its usual rhetoric of issuing statements that over time had not made any impact on the situation of things in the country. Instead, the situation in the country has continued to deteriorate with each region looking within and resorting to self help as if the centre is no longer there.

“It is in view of this that the AYF is calling on the Federal Government to immediately act, on behalf of Nigerians that voted them into power, to prevent another civil war in the country. Many citizens across the country are agitated in view of the prevailing situation.”

To the forum, the government should show leadership and work with other stakeholders to bring about hope, peace and unity among Nigerians.

According to the Arewa youths, unity of the country could only be achieved if government makes haste in dealing with insecurity, poverty, deprivation and endemic unemployment ravaging the people.

“There is a serious need for synergy between the Federal Government and the states to achieve all these and many more. State governors should be told that government’s inability to clamp down on criminals should not be an avenue to malign a whole ethnic group or even a group of people.

“Criminals should be treated as criminals, arrested, prosecuted and made to face the full wrath of the law anywhere they reside or commit crime in Nigeria. This is what government is expected to do.

“The invention of quit notice is not only alien to us but a recipe for anarchy, disaster and even war. This is a road we all as citizens must strive not to travel”.

“We have at different times aired our views on the need for government to put its house in order and tackle the insecurity in the country headlong. We appreciate that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, has listened to agitations of Nigerians by bringing on board new service chiefs. However, they should hit the ground running because there is no time for honeymoon.

“The new service chiefs should immediately come up with a new agenda on how to end the insurgency in the North East, banditry in the North West and the general insecurity across the country. The time to act is now before the situation gets out of hand,” the statement stressed.

EndSARs: Aisha Yesufu blast, educates Arewa Youths. [Video]

Aisha challenged the Arewa youths to wake up from their deception and face the reality that Buhari has nothing to offer.

One of the patriotic Nigerians who have been fighting for years for good governance in the country, Aisha Yesufu, has called out Northerners over their ignorance on the ongoing crisis in the country.

The activist, in two minutes and a few second video clip posted on her Twitter account on Wednesday, October 21 said that the Northern youths have been brainwashed by their political and religious leaders.

According to her, the Arewa youth have been made to believe that the ongoing nationwide #EndSARS movement is targetted at removing President Muhammadu Buhari from the seat of power.

She noted that Buhari has brought nothing to the north rather than poverty and insecurity, wondering why they still blindly stand behind him despite been victims.

Speaking in the Hausa language, Aisha accused the president of enriching only his immediate family and careless about the progress of the north where he belongs as well as the nation at large.

Her statement reads; “Northerners, I salute you all, I understand that you have been brainwashed on the ongoing crisis by your leaders. Both the religious and political leaders amongst you have convinced you that the movement is against the North, creating enmity between you and the Southerners with claims that the movement is targetted at removing President Muhammadu Buhari from his position.”

“Youths all over the nation trooped out to protest against the poor governance and you are all there making fool of yourselves as a result of what your gullible leaders have brainwashed you with”

“Which of the Buhari are they asking you to support, was it the Buhari that act on killings in his home State Katsina or the Buhari that act on insecurity in Zamfara, or could be it Buhari that solve the incessant killing in Borno State?”

“Of what use is the Buhari, what has he brought to the North? except for the poverty and insecurity. He keeps enriching himself and his family, marrying his children out to children of elites when he himself was as poor as anything before he was elected into office.”

“You hardly could afford to buy even a mattress for your personal use while he keeps sending his children abroad, turning you all to slaves,”

“Continue with your foolishness while they keep using you to get votes”.

Worst EFCC chairman – Arewa youths react to Magu’s probe

The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, has described the era of the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu as the worst.

AYCF President-General, Yerima Shettima said Magu strived on propaganda.

Speaking with Media (known to Noble Reporters Media), Shettima also lamented that EFCC under Magu witch-hunted those perceived to be opposition of the government.

According to Shettima: “Yes, we have seen it to be a case of selective justice, there are so many drama going on and to an exten that Magu is witch-hunting perceived opposition. EFCC has not really met the standard compared to what was obtained during the era of Lamorde that did not go into much propaganda but you could feel the action compared to Magu.

“Lamorde was one of the best we had then followed by Ribadu but this is one of the worst of it.

“The attention of the social media was strong on this one and once an issue arises, the media gives him a very good cover which is not good.”

A presidential committee is currently investigating the activities of EFCC under the leadership of Magu.

The investigation had led to his suspension as acting Chairman.

Magu was accused of corrupt practices and insubordination by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

The suspended EFCC boss was alleged to have been unable to account for billions of recovered loots.

Following his suspension, the anti-graft agency had picked Mohammed Umar to head the Commission in the absence of Magu.

A coalition of 406 ethnic youths including the Arewa Consultative Youth Forum, Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth worldwide and the Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide has called on the federal government to overhaul the presidential taskforce on COVID-19.

In a statement signed by Alhaji Yerimma Shetimma, President, Arewa Consultative Youth Forum(ACYF) and Aare Oladotun Hassan, President, Yoruba Council of Ýouths Worldwide(YCYW), the coalition under the aegis of Nigerian Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders Forum, NENYLF, expressed disappointment at what it described as the “unimpressive and lackadaisical approach and templates on the modus operandi in the management, administration and control of the COVID pandemic in Nigeria”.

“We are aghast to pass a vote of no confidence to the Presidential Taskforce Committee based on the multi-level discrepancies and complicity in the management of the entire COVID 19 breakout in the past few weeks ever since the first index case of COVID 19 in the month of March till date.”

“Our citizens are fed like caged pigs with ridiculous crumbs and spoilt waste rice from the abandoned trash bins of the Nigerian Customs Services and other unrealistic food silos.”

“We are further disappointed with the growing daily lies camouflaged against the masses, and as well decried the provoking stringent standards process adopted by the Federal Government to determining vulnerable poor Nigerians in the payment of the N5,000.00 (Five Thousand Naira) relief palliative, that they must have less than same N5,000 balance in their bank account, with an average recharging airtime of N100.00 on their phone both to be confirmed by the CBN and NCC.”

“We call for the immediate review and complete overhauling of the Presidential Taskforce Committee to now be efficiently and jointly managed by the President and Vice President; as Chairman and Vice respectively.” the statement read in part.

The police assaulted me, Called me a lesbian and beat me mercilessly for organizing rallies – Arewa MeToo Activist Narrates.

Sadiya Taheer, an activist in northern Nigeria, has narrated how she was allegedly abused by about 20 policemen in Sokoto state and accused of lesbianism for organizing a rally to speak up against violence in the north.

Sadiya has angered a lot of people in northern Nigeria with her activism, especially because of how it has emboldened a number of Arewa women to begin opening up about their abuse.

A number of people spoke against it and cautioned women against making their stories of abuse public.

Taking the Arewa MeToo movement further, a standstill rally was planned to call for the domestication of the VAPP Act (Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act). The Senate passed the VAPP bill in 2015 but it hasn’t been domesticated.

Sadiya was the leader of Arewa MeToo movement in Sokoto so she was in charge of organizing the standstill rally in Sokoto. The rally was supposed to hold on Monday, November 25, in 8 northern states.

However, as the day for the rally neared, a number of northerners took to Twitter to condemn it and claim it was an LGBTQ rights rally.

Sadiya said they followed the right procedure before the rally by sending letter twice to the House of Assembly. They also sent letters to the police commissioner’s office and to the DSS.

“All of these people told me that ‘yes, we’ve got you’,” Sadiya said.

A day before the rally, she said she called all the offices she had sent letters to. On the day of the rally, she claimed she went to the Police Commissioner’s office but they intentionally kept passing her round to waste her time.

According to Sadiya, she eventually went to the rally ground in front of the State House of Assembly. There, she said she met the DPO at the rally ground dispersing people who came for the rally and he told her that the police commissioner – who had told her she had his support – told him not to let them hold the rally because they are trying to promote the LGBTQ community.

She said they left the rally ground and were about leaving the area. But the policemen allegedly “got a phone call” and all started coming towards them.

When the officers got close enough, they allegedly attacked her and other members of her team. She claims they collected their placards from them and ripped them apart.

According to Sadiya, they demanded that she gives them her phone and her folded banner but she refused and that was when all of them allegedly attacked her and started beating her.

She explained: “If not for the two muscular people in that our members they would have torn me apart. They beat me up. When I came back home I could barely do anything. In fact, I had to go to the hospital straight from there.”

Sadiya said that she and her team received death threats and hate mails because of the rally. She said she got attacked while driving from the doctor’s office as people tried to bash her car, and called her names, including “lesbian”.

Soon, on Twitter, people began talking about the failed Sokoto rally. However, the rally held in other northern states as planned.

Sadiya went on in her video to allege that the policemen who attacked her a short distance away from the rally ground also arrested a member of her team for filming the assault. They also detained two other members of the group who went to bail the one arrested.

She said that asides defamation of character, the people opposing the rally took her photo from Instagram and began spreading it around, claiming she’s promoting LGBTQ in Sokoto state.

Sadiya concluded that the reason for the strong opposition to the rally is that most of the people opposing are abusers and fear that they will be prosecuted if the VAPP act is domesticated.

She pointed out that in the same Sokoto state, Almajiris get raped by men who take turns, yet the authorities do not come out to stop them. However, they could mobilize policemen to stop her group from seeking justice for the abused.

She added that she overheard one of the men saying over the phone that they understand what the rally is about but they can’t let it hold.

She claimed the man said: “Look at her telling women to have voice when they are being raped. How can we have that insubordination and disobedience in our culture? If she’s our sister, how can we marry her off when she’s voicing out that she’s been raped?”

Sadiya further claimed that the authorities bribed and threatened the media houses to discredit her.

She said: “These are people that have high stakes in the government. These are people who are high profile so literally, they will listen to them. Who will listen to little me?”

She continued: “The police were beating me up, they were violently beating me up for standing up against violence. So you see the irony of this. They were sponsored by the high profile people in this Sokoto state even though they know what the VAPP act is.”

She said she and her family have been receiving threats since then, adding that they threatened to attack her brother, sister, mum, and dad, and to also hurt her (Sadiya).

She concluded: “Nigeria is as corrupt as it gets, even the police.”

Below are reactions from Arewa Twitter users to the rally and a video of Sadiya narrating how she and other activists were abused by the police.
