APC senators angrily tags Buhari Gov’t ‘incompetent.’

Advertisements

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, halted the debate after Enagi declaring that the kidnap of the students was unfortunate.

The kidnap students of Government Science Secondary School, Kagara (Niger State) has pushed some Senators into uncontrollable anger against the Nigerian Government.

Advertisements

Senators Mohammed Enagi (APC-Niger South), Sani Musa (APC-Niger East), and Aliu Sabi Aliu (APC-Niger North) described as unacceptable, the worsening state of insecurity in Niger State and Nigeria in general.

In a brief debate on a motion sponsored by Senator Musa, the lawmakers expressed worries that the state had become unsafe for education, agriculture, and other socio-economic engagements.

Advertisements

Musa in defending his motion, informed his colleagues that the number of students in that school was more than 1000 adding that the actual number of those kidnapped was yet to be known.

But a spokesman for Niger State Muhammad Sani Idris said about 650 students were in the school when it was attacked.

Before the debate began, the Senate leadership had warned lawmakers against resorting to politics and political gimmicks during deliberations.

Consequently, all lawmakers who participated in the debate were from the APC as none from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spoke.

Use of hostile words and languages got to its peak when Senator Enagi lamented that none of the resolutions that had been adopted by Senate and sent to President Muhammadu Buhari was executed.

According to him, the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari is grossly incompetent.

The visibly angry lawmaker further noted that the government had been evasive on issues that ought to be given attention.

Enagi observed that it was unfortunate that the Federal Government was too incompetent to handle in such a way as to guarantee full employment for the nation’s teeming youths.

Enagi suggested the amendment of laws that would allow governors who are chief security officers of their respective states to take charge, insisting that the government at the centre has failed woefully.

Advertisements

He added that citizens might need to be allowed to bear arms through the amendment of laws if the situation persists.

“I’m sorry to say this, the government is grossly incompetent in the handling of security challenges in this country,” Enagi said.

“In my own zone, few days ago, terrorists went to two local governments, but fortunately, my people were able to repel and killed 9 of them and in short everybody that is here has a story to tell about security challenges in this country.

Advertisements

“What else are we supposed to do that we are not doing? Are supposed to amend laws in this country to give every citizen the opportunity to carry arms? What else are supposed to do?

“Shouldn’t we amend Nigeria Constitution to give more powers to the governors who are the Chief Security Officers of their various States because, our government at the centre is so incompetent in the handling of security issues.” Enagi queried.

According to the senator, the situation with the parents of the kidnapped students is best imagined “if it is one of us that his or her daughter and son were kidnapped. I expect everyone in government to think like that.”

He lamented that “For over two years, our Police and other security agents have been trying and for over two years, we discuss security challenges that we are facing, yet nothing has improved.

Advertisements

“We have a lot of youths who are undergraduates that are not employed or under-employed. What are we doing, the government is busy distributing palliative instead of creating economic activities that will engage the unemployed that will generate employment; that will improve the welfare of our people.

“Mr. President, my highly respected distinguished colleagues, the situation in this country is disheartening and something need to be done.” Enagi submitted.

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, halted the debate after Enagi declaring that the kidnap of the students was unfortunate.

Lawan said the security agencies had challenges with personnel and funds.

“Abduction of students from school happen in the northern part of Nigeria,” the senate president said, adding that”With incidences like this, parents would be scared to take their wards to school and the efforts of the past as present leaders at providing education would be defeated.”

Advertisements

Also, Senator Aliu, expressed dissatisfaction that the Federal Government has been unable to ensure the release of some 57 travellers kidnapped last Sunday within Niger State.

He called for more decisive action from security agencies to get the kidnapped persons released.

Sabi cautioned Federal Government to take extraordinary measures to halt the spate of insecurity which he feared could spread to the Federal Capital Territory.

The Senate urged the President to as a matter of urgency declare the state of emergency on insecurity in Nigeria.

Advertisements

It also urged Buhari to consider and implement “the recommendations of the Senate ad-Hoc Committee on Nigeria’s Security Challenges dated March 17, 2020 and Senate Resolutions therefrom, as a holistic response to the mounting security challenges across the country”

The Senate sought a massive and combined operation to identify and destroy the camps and hideouts of these criminals wherever they may be situated.

APC warns against reopening of Lekki toll gate.

Advertisements

The party said the intention of such call was to get the youths back on the streets and to unleash further mayhem on innocent people, who are still individually and collectively struggling to overcome their recent losses.

The Lagos State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged citizens of the state to disregard calls urging them to engage in protests or activities that could lead to further unrest in the state.

The state’s Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Seye Oladejo, in a statement, yesterday, also urged the people to be mindful of the ravaging second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, which thrives in an atmosphere of mammoth crowd, before heading to any reckless call to protest.

Advertisements

The party said its position was based on the recent call by a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of APC, Timi Frank, who said citizens of the state should troop out to protest the reopening of the Lekki Tollgate Plaza, which was closed down in the aftermath of the October 20, 2020, #EndSARS protests.

The party said the intention of such call was to get the youths back on the streets and to unleash further mayhem on innocent people, who are still individually and collectively struggling to overcome their recent losses.

According to Oladejo: “Our earlier position that the violent and orchestrated protest was sponsored is perhaps being buttressed by this renewed efforts to make the state ungovernable.”

“We need to emphasise that the mindless reaction of the politically-frustrated Frank is typical of someone seeking relevance through a rather sensitive issue.

“Besides, it is subjudice and lawless on the part of Timi Frank to condemn a panel that is yet to officially submit its findings.

“We hereby call on all well-meaning Lagosians to condemn any act under whatever guise that could lead to further unrest in the state.

“We also need to be mindful of the ravaging second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, which thrives in an atmosphere of mammoth crowd.”

The party commended the state government for its earnest and committed efforts to rebuild the state.

It also appreciated those who partnered with the government on corporate and individual capacities for the rebuilding of the state.

Optimism on membership registration in Delta.

Advertisements

Ovie Omo-Agege and state party chairman, Prophet Jones Erue, others scampering for safety.

The Delta Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed optimism that the party’s membership registration/ revalidation exercise in the state would be hitch-free.

Mr Sylvester Imonina, the State APC Publicity Secretary, said this in a statement in Asaba.

Imonina was reacting to a social media report indicating that the exercise had been marred by violence in the state, describing it as fake news.

Advertisements

He said that contrary to the report, the registration has yet to commence in the state, adding that the party only held a stakeholders meeting on Wednesday in Asaba which was peaceful.

“The attention of the APC has been drawn to an inglorious news item on social media wherein some unverified and unreliable media outlets churned out falsehood on the outcome of the peaceful stakeholders ’meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Advertisements

“Ordinarily, the party will not bother to respond to the said falsehood being peddled about an imaginary violence registration exercise but for the sake of some members of the party and the public, hence this reaction.

“First and foremost, there was no registration exercise that took place on the above-mentioned date in Delta.

“It is a known fact that the party’s registration and revalidation exercise is yet to commence throughout the country,” he said.

Advertisements

Imonina added: “It should be noted that the meeting that took place on Wednesday was for the leadership and stakeholders to brainstorm on the way forward toward the registration and revalidation exercise.

“The meeting was devoid of any scintilla of acrimony. Video and pictorial evidence abound to show that the meeting was peaceful.

“Leaders and party faithful, irrespective of political leanings had fruitful deliberations and far-reaching decisions for the good of the party.

” The outcome of the meeting was a product of old friends who were ready to put aside their political differences for the good of the party in the state.

Advertisements

“it was preposterous and devilish of some online media outlets to suggest that there was violence which led to DSP Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege and state party chairman, Prophet Jones Erue, others scampering for safety.

“We, therefore, call on the national leadership of the party, party faithful and members of the public to consign the said news into the dustbin.”

2023: Tinubu is getting nowhere in presidential run – Wike.

Advertisements

Wike, who accused media of constitutional betrayal, alleged that under the peaceful government of former President Goodluck Jonathan, media made the world to believe that Nigeria would collapse in the next 24 hours.

‘Nigeria under Buhari is a moving corpse’
Rivers State Governor Neysom Wike has urged National leader of ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, to channel his energy to other profitable ventures, stating that presidency would be out of reach of his party and himself come 2023 general elections.

Wike, who gave Tinubu the advice, yesterday, in Yola, Adamawa State, while on an inspection tour of projects being executed by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, said with the high performance of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors and alleged failure APC government under President Muhammadu Buhari is recording on daily basis, it is clear that Nigerians would not repeat the mistake of voting a party without direction.

Advertisements

“With what I saw today in Adamawa, I wonder how a normal person will not vote PDP again in this state. What is happening in Adamawa State is a replica of what is happening in other PDP states.

“With the massive development going on in PDP states and the massive corruption going on under APC regime, it is no longer news that PDP is on its way back to chase out invaders and lawfully take over its house and pilot Nigerians to the promised land,” he stated.

Advertisements

The Rivers governor, who applauded Transparency International (TI) rating of Nigeria on corruption, said the present APC leadership accept and protect corrupt persons.

File Photo: Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu | Noble Reporters Media | Adigun Michael Olamide | NoRM News

“Today, Wike can be the most corrupt governor, but immediately I decamp from PDP to APC, I am no longer corrupt. This means APC is a den for highly corrupt people. These are not my words, I am only quoting APC former national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole. Nigerians are intellectuals, they cannot enter again the boat that capsized with them,” he said.

Wike noted that Nigeria has never been divided like it is being experienced now under APC regime and that insecurity has become a huge industry under the administration of President Buhari.

Advertisements

The governor, who accused media of constitutional betrayal, alleged that under the peaceful government of former President Goodluck Jonathan, media made the world to believe that Nigeria would collapse in the next 24 hours.

According to him, the unholy silence of media at a time that the country is under threat of insecurity, economic collapse midwife by unfocused leadership, poses more danger to the country.

He advised APC leadership to move to Adamawa State and study how to develop people through projects, saying President Buhari could attest to development strides of Governor Fintiri.

Wike urged Fintiri not to be distracted by people he called envious political vultures, but to maintain his tempo of infrastructural development in Adamawa.

Advertisements

“Even I, as governor of an oil-producing state, I cannot construct underground flyover. I wonder where Fintiri is getting his money, but this is what we call, in PDP, determination to achieve. It is a strange word to the APC government. If you ask any of them to define development, that is the end of the discussion,” Wike said.

Fintiri, who commended Wike for the visit, assured the Rivers State governor that he would continue to offer PDP and Adamawa electorate services that would improve their livelihoods.

Wike said the APC-led federal government has failed in the fight against corruption, even as the country has become less secure, and more divided along ethnic and religious lines.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State says Nigerians have now realised that voting the All Progressives Congress (APC) into power is a mistake that must be corrected in 2023.

The governor stated this in Yola, the Adamawa State capital where he inspected an overhead bridge and an underground subway being constructed by the governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri.

Wike said the APC-led federal government has failed in the fight against corruption, even as the country has become less secure, and more divided along ethnic and religious lines.

According to him, the achievements of PDP governors amid an economy that is buffeted by the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrate their commitments to the development of the country and the wellbeing of the citizens.

We have nothing to hide – Buhari says after APC revalidation

Advertisements

Buhari said the administration had given more attention to agriculture in order to diversify and strengthen the economy.

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians of full implementation of the 2021 budget, with all transparency and openness in meeting the targets, while appreciating the National Assembly for the effective and detailed attention before the passage.

Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement in Abuja, said the president gave the assurance in Daura, Katsina State, after participating in the registration and revalidation exercise of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said the budget aptly captured some of the visions of the administration, and all efforts would be poured in to ensure effective implementation.

“We have directed all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies to follow what is in the budget so that we can get the National Assembly to easily support the next budget.

“We can tell them what we have received, and how it was spent.

“We are always ready to make the balance sheet available for all Nigerians and the National Assembly. We have nothing to hide.’’

President Buhari revalidates APC membership.

Advertisements

Buhari called on all those interested in the party to turn out in large numbers to revalidate and register, and be mindful of the COVID-19 regulations in carrying out the exercise.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday in Daura, Katsina State, called on leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to encourage more participation and ownership of the party at the grassroots.

Advertisements

Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s spokesman in a statement, said the president made call when he hosted Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, some governors and party members of the APC at his country-home after his registration at Sarkin Yara Ward, Daura.

He said they could achieve this by adopting bottom-up processes of registration and revalidation at ward, local government, state and federal levels, including the FCT.

Advertisements

According to him, a continuous sense of ownership by members will strengthen the party structure, guarantee better prospects in elections and insure its future.

“I want to thank you for coming all the way for the flag-off of our party’s registration exercise. Your coming is important to further boost the morale of party members and draw new members.

“Thank you for choosing a bottom-up process of registration at our ward, local government, state and national level, including the FCT.

Advertisements

“Our party style and structure should no longer be Abuja downwards, but from the ward level upwards. So that people can defend the party and its policies even at every level.

”The question of putting hands in pocket to get people to participate is no longer there since we don’t have the money to share.’’

The president said elites in the country should be more reflective and fair in their assessment of the administration, noting that the strides recorded should be appreciated.

“I will like our elites to be more reflective and remember when we came in in 2015. Where we were then, the resources available and the infrastructure we met on the ground.

Advertisements

“From 1999 to 2014, our country produced 2.1million barrels of oil and a barrel was over 100 dollars at some point.

”The economy was so much in a terrible state after we came in that we had to give bailout to states so that salaries and pensions can be paid. Now, we have a more stable polity.’’

Advertisements

In his remarks, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, said the governing party had already set up two committees to ensure effectiveness in the registration and revalidation process.

According to him, Gov. Yahaya Bello is heading the mobilisation and sensitisation, while the Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger leads the registration process.

“We are very proud of you. You are a special human being that God uses when Nigeria is in trouble.

Advertisements

”When you came to power in 1983, Nigeria was suffering from the attacks of Maitasine, and you dealt with them in Maiduguri, Gombe and all other places. I was in secondary school then.

“You also improved the economy. You instituted War Against Indiscipline to bring more focus. You inherited Boko Haram when you came in 2015, like the Maitasine.

”We are enjoying relative peace. In Yobe State, five local governments were in the hands of Boko Haram before you came in and no secretariat there was functioning. The situation is different now.

“You have successfully stopped the bomb blasts in various parts of the country and today people in the North East are getting resettled.’’

The Chairman said the success of the ward level registration by the President would further encourage grassroots participation.

The President’s party registration in Daura was attended by ten governors, the Senate President and a former Senate President, Ken Nnamani and other party stalwarts.

Wike in APC’s snare over derogatory remarks on Govs – APC

Advertisements

The governor said he had not disappointed Rivers people, who gave him their mandate to improve the quality of living, infrastructure and guarantee the security of life and property.

All Progressives Congress (APC) governors got a bitter pill from Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike on Wednesday. They were told to accept they are failures.

According to him, nobody would be proud to be called an APC member.

Advertisements

Flaying the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Wike said insecurity had worsened and the economy has collapsed under the watch of ruling party.

A statement by Wike’s Special Assistant, Media, Kelvin Ebiri, said the governor spoke when he led his Oyo State counterpart, Oluseyi Makinde, to open the Woji and Obagi roads in GRA Phase 2, Obio Akpor Local Government Area.

Advertisements

Wike said it was ironic for the APC governors to keep admitting worsening insecurity without accepting the failure of their party.

According to him, the Federal Government under APC promised to offer better governance but has failed woefully on all indices.

To him, even APC members must be ashamed of the party.

Advertisements

The governor said: “I hear the Progressives Governors Forum saying that there is insecurity. Who is responsible? They should come out openly and say that the party in power has failed.

“Nigerians gave a mandate to APC at the Federal Government level and therefore, they must own up that they have failed Nigerians.

“Everything has collapsed in the country. Security has collapsed. The economy has collapsed. Nothing is working in the country. Today, all over Nigeria, there is insecurity everywhere.

“The other day, in Katsina State, they took about 400. The next day, they said they took 84. Now again they said they’ve taken a village head, the wife and 14 people in Katsina State.

Advertisements

“When there was a problem in this state, about the level of kidnapping, I shouted but nobody listened to us. They said it was politics and that we were killing APC people.

“I said when you introduce politics to security the consequences will be great.

Advertisements

“Now, it is everywhere. Until they come to apologise to Rivers State for what they have done to us, then God will not forgive all of them.”

He said he was not tired serving the state, adding after his tenure he would walk freely on the streets.

Makinde said with the evidence of Wike’s performance, it would be difficult to convince Rivers people to abandon PDP for another party.

Advertisements

He said: “Indeed, all right-minded people like to identify with progress irrespective of their personal feeling towards the initiator.

“Development is a big part of our democracy and every project counts towards the overall progress of the nation.

“We are blessed to be leaders at this point of Nigeria’s history where there seems to be a reawakening of political consciousness, especially among the young people.

“True, we have a unique privilege of grooming a new crop of people who will see governance as service.

Advertisements

“We have remained too long in where people see public coffers as an extension of their accounts.

“At the next circle of election in 2023, Nigerians will show that they have learnt something from the event of 2020 and that electoral decisions have consequences.”

Six Strong men dumps PDP as crisis looms

Advertisements

The defectors were received on Wednesday by the party leader in Oyibo, Gift Okere, and caretaker committee Chairman Chamberlain Okorie.

Six chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyibo Local Government Area of Rivers State have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is despite the deepening crisis in the party, characterised by suspensions and counter suspensions.

The defectors – Adolphus Nweke, Onyema Ihenna, Ibekwe Okere, among others – said the PDP is no better party.

Advertisements

They hoped the party structure would become stronger after this crisis period. “We would rather be active members of the APC and partake in the dividend of the work, than answer big name and die in hardship”, they said.

Okorie noted that the PDP in Oyibo Ward 2 has crashed following the defection of key executives to the APC. He urged the new members to work for APC’s victory in the next elections.

He admonished them on the need for unity, cooperation and hard work to ensure victory for the party, even as he assured them of huge benefit under the leadership of Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi.

Okorie alleged the absence of government projects in the council despite the defectors’ hard work and commitment in the PDP.

Advertisements

He said: “PDP administration has done Oyibo people more harm than good. There is no Wike project in the council. When Rotimi Amaechi was governor, Oyibo council recorded key projects and human development programmes that posterity will be proud of.

“Your decision to join APC is a good one and you will soon confirm it. Amaechi has nothing to give you, but I assure you he will continue to fight for the entrenchment of true democracy.”

PGF Boss, Lukman calls for APC internal democracy

Advertisements

This is the critical success factor for enduring reform that should come with commitment to democratic values and rule of law, which is not limited to preservation of power.

The Director General of the progressive governors forum (PGF), Dr Salihu Lukman, has maintained that the entrenchment of internal democracy is required to ensure victory of the party in the 2023 general election.

The PGF boss said there is the need to take every step necessary to ensure the success of the ongoing reform in the APC to strengthen internal democracy within the party.

Lukman in a statement titled “Seductiveness of Conventional Politics and the Challenges facing APC” dedicated to the publisher of the Leadership newspapers, he argued that this would avert the problem associated with the imposition of candidates that had dogged party politics in the country over the years.

Advertisements

“Ultimately, the reform should be able to guarantee that all negotiations for appointments by governments produced by the party should be mainstreamed as part of the operational activities of the party,” Lukman said.

“The goal of reform therefore is to ensure that the party is fortified as the bearer of democratic values and progressive politics.

“This will require that all activities of membership registration/revalidation, congresses and national convention are carefully planned. To achieve this will require that members of His Excellency Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Committee are taking the necessary steps to strengthen the capacity of the APC National Secretariat to implement all decisions.

“This is largely about taking responsibility and communicating decisions to party members and the public. Although, considerable progress has been achieved, it is important to appeal for more consultations, coordination and better communications of initiatives and all the internal reform process.

Advertisements

“Poor consultations, coordination and communication makes party members to be contemptuous of every decision taken, which strengthens the confidence of those opposed to internal party reform. The solution to all these lies in the ability of the 13-member Caretaker Committee to work harmoniously with the required professional competence. The Secretary of the Caretaker Committee should be able to facilitate the process of planning and one of the 13 members should be able to lead the process of members’ and public mobilisation.

“Our leaders, especially the Caretaker Committee should bear in mind constantly the message of Obama in his Memoir, that “It was the nature of democracies to swing between periods of progressive changes and conservative retrenchment. The swing to conservativism may be produced from within the party.”

Speaking at a two-day mid-term retreat held in Ado-Ekiti, Shettima, the immediate past governor of Borno State, stated that it was too early to talk about zoning ahead of the 2023 election.

He warned politicians to stop heating up the polity about which section of the country will secure the party’s presidential slot in 2023.

He said: “Don’t forget that our party still controls the Presidency. We have a leader and other competent leaders that can manage every crisis situation.

“At the appropriate time, our leaders will sit and take the most apt decision that will resolve the issue.

“APC is a party that is united and nothing can break us. I am confident that we will win the 2023 presidential election. APC still remains the party to beat because of the unity of purpose and togetherness as well as desire to deliver for Nigerians.

“So, I am confident and no cause for alarm, what you called controversy will be resolved in the fullest of time.”

2023: APC Chieftain reveals Buhari’s stand on GEJ presidency

Advertisements

The opposition party made this known in a statement on Sunday,November 22, through its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan.

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Julius Ihonvbere has said President Muhammadu Buhari at the moment has not shown any sign indicating that he is backing the prospects of Dr Goodluck Jonathan taking another shot at the presidency.

Recalls reports have claimed that All Progressives Congress (APC) is trying to convince Jonathan, a former president, to run for the presidency on its platform in 2023.

The reports were heightened after some governors on the platform of the APC visited Jonathan to felicitate with him on his 63 birthday anniversary.

However, Ihonvbere, who represents Owan West/East Federal constituency of Edo in the House of Representatives told Vanguard that he does not think president Buhari is considering presenting Jonathan as a successor.

He said:

“If it is the same president Buhari that we have seen so far, those who are reading his body language, I don’t know how they read it, I have not seen the body language saying that it is Jonathan he is going to present.

But Jonathan should also remember that under his administration, there were so many contradictions that he didn’t address.”

The lawmaker advised the former president not to make any hasty decision regarding the 2023 presidency so that he does not lose the respect he attained after he conceded defeat in 2015.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that a recent visit by governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to former President Goodluck Jonathan has further affirmed that Nigeria is better under the governance of the opposition.

NoRM gathered that the PDP stated this in reaction to the governors’ visit on Friday, November 20, describing it as an endorsement of the PDP’s administration.

According to Ologbondiyan, the opposition receives the visit by APC governors as an apology by the ruling party to the PDP and Nigerians over the lies and other allegations deployed to grab power.

Ologbondiyan went on to warn Nigerians to be careful of the APC’s antics, adding that the party will not allow the failedparty and its pranksters to mislead them once again.

He said:

“This visit to Jonathan by the APC governors is a direct acceptance of the successes recorded by our party in building a strong nation with a virile economy that was rated as one of the fastest-growing economies of the world.”

I cannot continue in PDP, Umahi is lucky to have left – Matawalle

Advertisements

According to the governor, the extent of bad blood in the PDP is partly responsible for Mr Umahi’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, saying “everyone feels welcome only in a house where he feels comfortable”.

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is becoming hostile for its members, lamenting over his recent experience with his governor colleagues from the South-South region of the country.

Mr Matawalle, who made the lamentation in a statement on Friday by his media aide, Zailani Bappa, commended Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State “for his bold decision” to leave the party.

He said: “If this trend of generating bad blood amongst us continues unabated, our great party will increasingly be on the receiving end as we move towards the election year, 2023.”

Speaking further, Mr Matawalle said: “I am having a very bad experience of recent from some of my PDP governor colleagues which I still find very puzzling.

“For instance, the South-South governors [who had been] accusing me in the media are PDP Governors.

“They are also the same people who brewed controversy over the so-called Zamfara gold, [which was] premised on deliberate misinformation and outright lies.

“Surprisingly, it is the APC Federal Government which has all the correct records on the gold mining issue that came out to defend me in this saga.

“As PDP colleagues, I expected the governors to contact me first and find out my own side of the story before unleashing their venom in the media,” Mr Matawalle posited.

“As the brouhaha lasted, I commended President Muhammadu Buhari for being supportive of our efforts to organise the economic sector in the state to avoid using the mineral deposits to promote insecurity in our dear state”

“Today, the Federal Government is issuing licences to deserving companies to operate in the mining sector in the state. The biggest company with an investment of billions of naira is owned by a Nigerian from Anambra state.

“And I wonder where the idea of Zamfara state owning the gold mines emanated from. As at now, the state Government does not have a hand in any of the mining activity in the state because the constitution does not empower us to do so,” Mr Matawalle noted.

The governor, therefore, called on the South-South governors “to eschew intellectual idleness and support its people to operate modular refineries as provided by the law and lift their people out of fear rather than sit behind and start chasing shadows rather than substance.”
