Tomori joins AC Milan from Chelsea.

Advertisements

Chelsea have confirmed the departure of centre-back Fikayo Tomori to AC Milan on loan until the end of the season.

Milan wanted a new centre-back this summer and had initially identified Strasbourg’s Mohamed Simakan as their preferred target, but eventually set their sights on Tomori, who was eager to make the move.

Advertisements

The two clubs began talks midway through January and things progressed fairly quickly, and now Chelsea have confirmed on their official website that they have sent Tomori over to San Siro for the remainder of the season.

As part of the agreement, Milan are understood to have the option to sign the 23-year-old permanently next summer for a fee of around £25m.

Tomori is now expected to compete for minutes with Alessio Romagnoli and Simon Kjaer, who have formed a dominant duo since the latter’s arrival from Sevilla in the summer.

Stefano Pioli’s side currently sit top of the Serie A standings, three points clear of rivals Inter, and the hope is that Tomori will help strengthen their defence and keep them on track for their first league title since 2011.

Advertisements

Tomori will be eager to play football again. He managed just four appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season, finding himself firmly stuck behind Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard recently insisted that he still had a ‘long-term plan’ for the centre-back, but Tomori has seemingly been won over by Milan, where director Paolo Maldini admitted they were waiting to welcome him with open arms.

Ibrahimovic lauds Donnamura best world’s goalkeeper as he decide his Milan stay.

Advertisements

The club are currently trying to extend the contract of some of their key players, including Ibrahimovic and goalkeeper Donnarumma, whose deals expire at the end of the current season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he will decide on his future towards the end of the season and has declared AC Milan teammate Gianluigi Donnarumma as the best goalkeeper in the world.

Advertisements

The duo have been key parts of the Rossoneri’s squad which has taken Serie A by storm this season, topping the table with 40 points from 17 games putting them three points clear of city rivals Inter.

Ibrahimovic’s return to Milan at the start of 2020 triggered something in the side as they have gone on a tremendous run of form, with the 39-year-old earning plenty of praise for his performances.

Zlatan says he will decide his future towards the end of the campaign, while heaping praise on the Italian goalkeeper.

Advertisements

“He is the best goalkeeper in the world, but I never tell him. He must continue to have ambition, but it’s not normal that he’s never played in the Champions League,” Ibrahimovic told Il Corriere dello Sport, via Football Italia.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

“I’ll continue playing as long as I feel well. Then we’ll see, we’ll talk about my contract. I didn’t want to put myself in a trap with no way out, that’s why I initially signed a six-month contract which I renewed afterwards. Others made different choices.”

Donnarumma has played over 225 times for Milan since making his debut for the club aged just 16 in 2015.

He is the Italy number one, taking over from the legendary Gianluigi Buffon but at the age of just 21 years old, he is yet to appear in the Champions League.

Advertisements

He has been linked with a move to Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain in the summer on a free transfer, but with Milan’s current performance there is growing confidence that they could convince him to re-sign.

Ibrahimovic is currently Milan’s top goalscorer this season with ten goals, despite missing a portion of the season following a positive COVID-19 test and a knee injury that kept him out for a month.

Rafael Leao of AC Milan scores fastest ever Serie A ‘6 Sec’ goal

Advertisements

The previous fastest goal had been Paolo Poggi’s for Piacenza against Fiorentina in December 2001 after eight seconds of play.

AC Milan forward Rafael Leao scored after just six seconds for the fastest-ever goal in Serie A history on Sunday at Sassuolo.

Milan launched straight into an attack from kick-off, with Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu setting up Leao to slot home.

Portuguese Leao, who usually plays on the left wing, started at centre-forward with star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic still out with a leg muscle problem and his replacement Ante Rebic also injured.

It was the 21-year-old’s third league goal this season and fourth in all competitions.

Tonali snubs Barcelona and Man utd for AC Milan

Advertisements

Italian wonderkid Sandro Tonali has turned down the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona to sign for AC Milan this summer, according to Brescia president Massimo Cellino.

Tonali is poised to put pen to paper on a deal with the San Siro club, bringing to an end the Europe-wide pursuit for his services which has seen every elite club in Europe linked.

And now Cellino has admitted that United and Barca had posted serious interest in the 20-year-old, who appeared set for Inter Milan before turning everybody down once their bitter rivals AC made interest known.

‘I know that [Inter CEO] Beppe Marotta really wanted Tonali, and that [Inter head coach] Antonio Conte appreciated him, so I think his agent had agreed terms with Inter,’ Cellino told Top Calcio24.

‘As soon as Milan showed real interest, he did not want to listen to any other options.

Advertisements

‘I also have a historically good rapport with Milan and we reached an agreement with [Milan technical director] Paolo Maldini quite quickly.

‘We also had interest from Barcelona and Manchester United, but the lad is in love with Milan and went crazy once he heard of their offer, because he supports them.’

Huge things are expected of Tonali in his homeland, with the player repeatedly compared against the iconic Andrea Pirlo.

The financial deal for Tonali looks set to be a staggered one, with AC Milan initially paying a sizeable loan fee before committing to purchasing the player thereafter.

Milan’s initial outlay on the loan will cost €10m (£9m) with an option to then buy for a further €15m (£13m) and another €10m in potential add-ons thereafter once a series of clauses are met.

Ac Milan discusses contract extension with Ibrahimovic and Donnarumma

Advertisements

Ricky Massara was asked about Milan pair Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gianluigi Donnarumma prior to Wednesday’s 4-1 rout of Sampdoria.

Milan director Ricky Massara said the Serie A club are in talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gianluigi Donnarumma over new contracts.

Ibrahimovic has transformed Milan since arriving on a free transfer in January, though the evergreen 38-year-old is out of contract at the end of the 2019-20 season.

The former Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona striker scored two goals in Wednesday’s 4-1 Serie A rout of Sampdoria, taking his tally to 10 in 2020.

Advertisements

Asked about Ibrahimovic’s future prior to the midweek clash, Massara told Sky Sport Italia: “We are talking to Mino Raiola and trying to do it behind the scenes, even if it’s difficult to keep anything from the media nowadays.

“There are issues that we will evaluate together, including Ibra’s spirit and desire to continue this wonderful adventure, which has been so positive in the second half of the season.

“We are all happy, first and foremost Ibra, that he’s been able to prove his value to Milan all over again.”

Ibrahimovic and Milan goalkeeper Donnarumma are both represented by outspoken agent Mino Raiola.

Advertisements

Donnarumma, who made his debut as a 16-year-old in 2015-16, is contracted to the Rossoneri until 2021.

The Italy international – previously linked to the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Real Madrid and United – is reportedly ready to extend his San Siro stay.

On Donnarumma, who saved a penalty against Sampdoria, Massara said: “That is a different situation, but we are eager and confident that we can resolve both of them positively. Donnarumma has a contract and we’d like a longer one to create a stronger future together.

“Ibra, on the other hand, is out of contract this summer and so these are very different discussions.”

Jovic’s agent to AC Milan to meet Boss Maldini

Advertisements

The striker’s agent is up in Milan to hold a meeting with Maldini and Massara, who are looking to strike a deal for Rebic and the Real Madrid striker.

Fali Ramadani continues his sojourn in Italy. Last week he was down in Naples where he spoke about three players who are expected to be on the move this summer – Nikola Maksimovic, Kalidou Koulibaly and Luka Jovic (Napoli’s first option if the Victor Osimhen operation falls through), and today the agent was spotted in Milan, Sky Sport report. Ramadani held a meeting with AC Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara to discuss the situation concerning Ante Rebic and Jovic. Rebic, who played a big part in the team’s return to form in 2020 by hitting 11 goals, joined on loan two seasons ago from Eintracht Frankfurt in a 5 million euro deal which included the option to buy him outright for 25 million. The Italians however are looking to buy the player at a discount price which could end up scuppering the operation as 50% of the transfer fee will go directly to Fiorentina.

Advertisements

Jovic to Milan?

Jovic meanwhile, is on the Rossoneri agenda to lead their attack if Zlatan Ibrahimovic ends up leaving at the end of the season which is looking increasingly likely. Milan would not be able to meet the 40-50 million euros which Real Madrid would be looking for if they decide to sell the Serbian forward and the player would also have to take a pay cut if he moved to San Siro. All of those issued were discussed today and talks are set to continue. Maldini will try to reach some kind of middle ground with Real Madrid and if successful, it will be Milan’s second piece of business with Madrid in 12 months following Theo’s move to the Italian club in 2019.

PSG to offer €50m?Did Theo really worth that sum for Transfer?

Paris Saint-Germain will have to pay at least €50m to make Milan even think about selling Theo Hernandez, claim reports.

Advertisements

Leonardo has never hidden his interest in the former Real Madrid left-back, who cost €20m last summer, but multiple French sources have already stated that €30m was rejected.

Now Calciomercato.com suggest the absolute minimum sum required to even consider negotiating is €50m.

The 22-year-old has been the breakout star of Milan’s season, contributing six goals and three assists in 25 games between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

Despite playing in defence, Theo Hernandez is the Rossoneri’s second most prolific player behind Ante Rebic’s seven goals.

Ibrahimovic and Kessie ‘will return to Italy this coming weekend’

Advertisements

AC Milan are set to welcome Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Franck Kessie back into Italy in the coming days, a report claims.

Advertisements

The former has been training with Hammarby in his native Sweden, the team he owns 25% of, with a view to staying in shape there before returning to Milano once a date is confirmed for a return to training with the Rossoneri.

According to SportMediaset (via MilanLive), it was previously assumed that the 38-year-old would return to Italy this coming weekend, however it is now believed Ibra will land on Monday.

He will have to undergo some standard health checks and will initially be forced to train in quarantine, while next week will be decisive both for the future of the Serie A season and for the fate of Ibrahimovic himself.

With a contract expiring on 30 June, the Milan striker will have to discuss with the club about a possible but still complex renewal.

Meanwhile, il Corriere dello Sport (via MilanLive) are reporting Kessie is expected to catch a return flight to Milano between Saturday and Sunday. Therefore, the Ivorian midfielder should arrive in Italy by the weekend.

Arsenal Shows interest in Milan’s bonaventura

Advertisements

AC Milan midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura is attracting interest from Premier League side Arsenal, according to the latest reports from England.

Advertisements

Bonaventura joined Milan back in 2014 but it looks as though his stay at San Siro is set to end after six years, with his deal expiring once the current campaign is over and no sign of an imminent renewal.

A tactically flexible midfielder who offers experience and quality, it has been reportedly recently that there are four Serie A side who are currently in the running to land the 30-year-old, namely Atalanta, Fiorentina, Roma and Lazio.

According to MilanNews though – who cite The Sun – Arsenal have become the latest team to enter the race to land Bonaventura, who would of course be available on a free transfer.

The Gunners have been looking to add depth to their midfield amid doubts over the futures of Dani Ceballos and Milan-linked Lucas Torreira.

Bennacer is not for sale to Milan amid PSG transfer links

AC Milan consider midfielder Ismael Bennacer to be untouchable despite reports in the media suggesting Paris Saint-Germain are keen.

Advertisements

According to Monday’s edition of il Corriere dello Sport (via MilanLive), the Rossoneri firmly believe in the Algeria international, who signed from Empoli last summer for a fee of €16m.

With Lucas Biglia and Giacomo Bonaventura set to leave upon expiry of their contracts on June 30, plus doubts over the futures of Frank Kessie and Lucas Paqueta, Bennacer remains practically the only certainty.

The report acknowledges persistent rumours from France about Paris Saint-Germain readying an offer of over €20million for Bennacer, a proposal that would bring a capital gain, but the club at present will not even consider his sale.

Advertisements

In fact, all summer offers will be rejected. In addition to being very satisfied with his performances, Elliott Management believes that the 22-year-old has all the requirements to be the ideal player for the new era.

With Ralf Rangnick, there could also be an evolution as the German may choose to use him as a mezzala, in order to utilise his tenacious pressing higher up the field and his athleticism.

Ibrahimovic set to take part in a televised friendly for Hammarby on Friday

AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to take part in a televised friendly for Hammarby on Friday.
The 38-year-old returned to his native Sweden after the 2019-20 season was called to a temporary halt due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ibrahimovic has been training with Hammarby during the self-isolation period, and is not expected to return to San Siro until a date is set for the campaign to resume.

Italy is currently in state of emergency, but lockdown measures are due to end on May 3, with clubs across the country hopeful of getting back to work later in the month.

Ibrahimovic signed a six-month contract with Milan after calling time on a successful spell in MLS with the LA Galaxy, but it is not yet known whether his services will be retained beyond the summer.

The Rossoneri are happy for the former Sweden international to maintain his fitness levels at Hammarby with a view to returning to Italy in peak condition, but the forward recently admitted that he is not sure where his future lies.

Ibrahimovic has now confirmed that he will be participating in an internal friendly at the Tele2 Arena, which will see Hammarby, Bajans and IK Frej players divided into two teams.

He wrote on Twitter: “Want to see me do magic? Watch me in action with Hammarby live and free on Dplay.se tomorrow Friday at 10.00 CET.”

Hammarby boss Jesper Jansson said Ibrahimovic has “looked really impressive” in training, before explaining the reasons behind the match during an interview with Fotbollsthlm.

He said: “We call it: ‘competition on training’. We have different steps to motivate our players and tomorrow’s game will be a part of it.

“We have three teams where there will be match play during training. We see it as a fun thing and as a challenge. It will be fun for the guys to turn up the tempo.”

Donnarumma could leave Milan to join Man Utd or Ajax for free

AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could have joined Manchester United or Ajax on a free transfer, according to a report.
During Adriano Galliani’s long interview with Telelombardia on Wednesday night, the former Milan CEO spoke about Donnarumma and his agent Mino Raiola.

“I have always worked well with Raiola. He has taken very rich commissions, but with me he has always behaved correctly,” he said (via MilanNews).

A shock revelation then came from the current Monza chief as he revealed: “Raiola had the chance to take Gigio away from Milan to zero Lire twice.”

According to what MilanNews report further down in the article, Ajax and – above all – Manchester United were the two teams that the young goalkeeper could have signed for on a free transfer if Raiola had his way.

This situation happened before his senior debut back in October 2015, when he was chosen to start aged just 16 years old and helped the Rossoneri secure a 2–1 victory after three matches without a win.

Milan are facing another dilemma regarding Donnarumma’s future as his contract expires in June 2021, so the Rossoneri have to either find a way to agree a renewal before the start of next season (whenever that may be) or sell him in the upcoming window so the 21-year-old doesn’t leave for free.

Interestingly, Manchester United are one of the teams that have been linked, though now it is reported he would cost around €50m.

Calhanoglu seeks Milan extension to stay for another 5 years

Hakan Calhanoglu is hoping to extend his contract with Milan, claims the Corriere dello Sport newspaper, just weeks after his departure seemed inevitable.
The 26-year-old Turkey international is tied down until June 2021, having joined from Bayer Leverkusen for €23m in the summer of 2017.

He had seemed destined for the exit, but rediscovered some form after a change of tactics under coach Stefano Pioli.

Calhanoglu has contributed five goals and one assist in 25 competitive games for the Rossoneri this season.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, he would be prepared to extend for another five years and stay on the exact same salary of €2.5m per season net.

Milan are revamping their midfield for next season, with Lucas Biglia and Giacomo Bonaventura contracts allowed to run down, while Lucas Paqueta and Franck Kessie have offers.
