Luis Suarez has insisted that he’s just as hungry for goals at the age of 34 as he has been at any stage in his footballing career.
The Uruguayan has been in fine form for Los Rojiblancos since signing from Barcelona and is currently top of the scoring charts in LaLiga Santander.
The veteran striker has been named the Mahou Jugador Cinco Estrellas for January – awarded to Atletico Madrid’s player of the month.
“Strikers live to score goals, but what I try to do is help the team,” Suarez said upon receiving the award.
“Although I’m 34 now, I still have the same ambition.
“We’re on a good run of form and it’s important for us to keep going like that in order to achieve our goals.
“A striker can’t perform if he doesn’t have a team that does a great job.
“You try to help your team [as a striker]. Sometimes you score lots of goals and sometimes you go a few matches without one.
“But the important thing is that the team keeps picking up three points to get to our objective.”
