This could prove to be a pivotal summer in the transfer market for Arsenal.
With Mikel Arteta having had half a season to assess his squad, the Spaniard will be fully aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the Gunners’ current roster.
Arsenal have a Europa League campaign to navigate in 2020/21 thanks to their recent victory in the FA Cup final, so will need a well-stocked squad of quality options.
They will hope to improve upon a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League next season too.
With all of that in mind, it promises to be a busy summer of comings and goings at the Emirates Stadium. Here are the latest transfer rumours.
Three clubs keen on Maitland-Niles
If Arteta wants to do plenty of transfer business, it will help his cause if he can raise funds through sales.
One man who could be heading out of the club is Ainsley Maitland-Niles. NobleSports are reporting that three unnamed clubs – two from England and one from Germany – are interested in signing the 22-year-old.
Maitland-Niles made 15 Premier League starts for the Gunners this season, and was also in the team for the FA Cup victories over Manchester City and Chelsea.
Ozil exit rumours ramping up
It would probably be the best for all concerned if Mesut Ozil left Arsenal this summer. His last appearance for the club was in March and he scored just one Premier League goal this season.
NobleSports have reported that the German international has been pictured on Instagram with the owner of Istanbul Basaksehir, Okan Buruk.
Needless to say, this has cranked up the rumour mill regarding Ozil’s potential exit from north London.
However, his agent Dr Erkut Sogut said Ozil would remain with Arsenal for another year when asked about it last month.
“I do not think there will be a change in the case of Mesut Ozil until the summer of 2021,” he said.
Guendouzi to join PSG?
Arsenal are not short of players who may be leaving this summer. Midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is another who has seemingly paved the way for an exit, with Arteta reportedly happy to allow him to move on.
Few people would’ve guessed that French champions Paris Saint-Germain would prove to be his next stop after Arsenal, but reports suggest that could be the case.
Guendouzi was at their academy before he made his breakthrough at Lorient, but this doesn’t feel like a realistic move for the player at this point.
But stranger transfer deals have happened in the past, so who knows?
Eze ‘wants dream move’ to Gunners
If the above three players leave then reinforcements will be even more important for Arteta. And just as Guendouzi might return to a team who he played for as a youth, so might Queens Park Rangers’ Eberechi Eze.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder was on Arsenal’s books until he was released nine years ago, and has reportedly said it would be his ‘dream move’ if he could return to the club which he still supports.
According to the NobleSports, Crystal Palace and West Ham are interested in signing the player, who QPR will only sell if they receive an offer of £20million.
So Eze looks set to remain in London – but exactly where he will be next season is yet to be determined.
