Why It Is Called ‘Aso Rock’ – By Olamide Noble | Historic

Advertisements

History•

It is one of the city’s most noticeable features. The Nigerian Presidential Complex, Nigerian National Assembly, and Nigerian Supreme Court are located around it. Much of the city extends to the south of the rock. “Aso” means victorious in the native language of the Asokoro (“the people of victory”) ethnic group.

Who Built Aso Rock?

President Ibrahim Babangida, who took office in 1985, commenced construction of a new Presidential residence and in 1991 the Aso Rock Presidential Villa was completed and President Babangida became the first Head of State to occupy it, in on December 12, 1991.

How Long Is Aso Rock?

Which Rock Is The Biggest In Nigeria?

Zuma Rock is a large monolith, an igneous intrusion composed of gabbro and granodiorite, that is located in Niger State, Nigeria. It rises spectacularly immediately west of Nigeria’s capital Abuja, along the main road from Abuja to Kaduna off Madala, and is sometimes referred to as the “Gateway to Abuja from Suleja”.

How Many Rocks Are In Nigeria?

Rocks in Nigeria

The country has a pretty big list of tourist attractions to observe, from mysterious caves and quick rivers to huge mountains. People who love mountains will absolutely like visiting rocks in Nigeria because some of these sightseeing locations are way higher than the famous Egypt pyramids!

Advertisements

The list of five major rocks in Nigeria includes:

Olumo Rock
Zuma Rock
Aso Rock
Riyom Rock
Wase Rock

We can continue this list because there are more than just five well-known rocks in Nigeria. But these five places are most visited, so every citizen and tourist who travels across the country should spend some time visiting some beautiful and high rocks.

Where is Olumo Rock located?
This rock is extremely popular in Nigeria. Many local people and tourists come here to enjoy spectacular views.

Olumo Rock is located near Ogun River, in Ogun State. If you take the A5 highway, head to Abeokuta and you will see this attraction from far away because its highest peak reaches 137 meters above the sea level. While it is not as high as Aso Rock, you will still be stunned.

Advertisements

Where is Zuma Rock located?
If you are a citizen of Nigeria, you can see this place every day or even more often. If you are a tourist, you can also look at Zuma Rock even without visiting this beautiful place. Why are we so sure about this? Take any 100 Naira banknote and look at it. What do you see? Exactly!

Of course, the real Zuma Rock location is not on the notes. It can be visited in Niger State, and you can take the A234 highway from Abuja (capital) towards Kaduna and near Madala. The mountain’s height impresses. It is nearly 725 meters (over 3.6 thousand feet)!

Aso Rock location
If you live in Abuja or visit the capital of Nigeria, you should travel closer to Aso Rock. Its tremendous size reminds of pyramids, but we have to note one important fact. This ‘capital’ rock is 10 times higher than the most famous pyramid. Of course, it doesn’t have the shape or color of Giza pyramid (it’s a well-known Egypt tourist attraction), but Aso Rock is exceptionally high reaching 400 meters (1,300 feet) high above the sea level.

You have already guessed that this major rock in Nigeria is located in Abuja. If you have plans to see the Complex of the President of the country or happen to go to the Supreme Court or travel the A234 highway, you will not miss the fantastic rock.

Advertisements

Riyom Rock location
This tourist attraction in Nigeria is pretty unusual. Many citizens call it ‘Three Rocks’ formation because of its unique shape. The huge rocks lay on top of each other.

This fantastic site is located in Plateau State, close to Riyom town.

Wase Rock location
While this rock is not visited by locals and tourists as often as other major rocks in Nigeria, it is worth being added to our list because of its unique shape. Firstly, it has a shape of a dome. Secondly, it originates from a volcano. Thirdly, pelicans love it and choose it as their breeding ground. Finally, yet importantly, Wase Rock is one of the five isolated dome-shaped rock hills on our planet.

Reaching approximately 350 meters (over 1.1 thousand feet) above the sea level, this rock is located in Wase town (in Plateau State).

Dr. Funmilayo Rape Allegation: Dr. Bola Aseyan drops more Fact

Advertisements

Doctor Bola Aseyan, the lady who accused popular UK-based Nigerian doctor, Dr. Harvey Funmilayo of rape has revealed more details about her stay with him in the UK.

Earlier today, Bola Aseyan called out Dr Harvey, for sexually and emotionally abusing her.

According to her, the Twitter influencer sexually and emotionally abused her for so long but she hid it to protect her and also his profession.

She however disclosed that she couldn’t bear the pains and trauma any longer and had to come out to tell her story.

Advertisements

Read her initial post:

A woman can only tolerate so much abuse from a man. A completely different persona online, and a truly horrible man in person, an abuser to say the least, both sexually and emotionally. A human can only tolerate so much!

I have proof all these madness. And God in heaven knows I dread the negative type of attention but people deserve to know what a horrible human being this man is!!!! Horribly terrible!!!!

Now you are calling people to call me and speak to me ba?!!! You are calling frantically. When you were sexually and emotionally abusing, you didn’t know it would resort to this. Because Bola doesn’t air dirty laundry, Bola is private, you think I’m stupid??!

Your fav influencer has sexually and emotionally abused me for so long, and I’ve been hiding it. I didn’t want to say anything because I DESPERATELY didn’t want to be in the news for anything bad here. I kept telling myself it would be over soon. I cannot take it anymore!

Advertisements

Everyone is telling me to consider his profession and not say anything, i shouldn’t say anything. How about how I feel? Everytime. I’m tired. I haven’t done a thing to deserve this. I have lodged a formal complaint with the police today! I cannot and will not take this anymore!

We are both doctors. Both of us. And I’ve been too nice just because I thought it would end soon. You bully me everytime. You know I hate social media issues and you have a lot of followers so it’s okay to do all these to me ba? Right!!

I didn’t press charges, only because you would lose your license to practise, and I cannot bear to carry that much guilt in my heart. Even with everything that you’ve done, I’m still not a mean spirited person. I leave you to God to judge you, and my head will judge you!!!

I am irritated to say the least at those who think my life occurrence is a gist that’s waiting to happen. You think I’m tweeting with eagerness and happiness. You think I want to be in this position or it’s a joke. I am hurting.I am sad and I’ve never thought it’ll resort to this

Advertisements

I use God to beg our fellow medical doctors in my DM asking me not to tweet or let it go. Please and please, they won’t abuse your children. Pls don’t give me unsolicited advise. I didn’t press charges even though the cops here in the UK asked me to, don’t push it.

Your favorite online influencer also a medical doctor in the UK who always has an opinion on every topic on Twitter, he is morally upright on the Internet, yet does the exact opposite of what he preaches online, preaching against rape and doing the exact opposite in person.

I’m not the victim in this case thankfully!!! The women who went through same in the hands of this doctor and didn’t have the courage to come out. Those are the real victims. Undermining my privacy for gullibility was his first mistake.

Online Bullies are the reason a lot of people do not narrate their ordeals in the hands of their so called favorite influencers. They have 150K+ followers, the fear of taking their supporters on dissuades people from coming forward. I have filed a complaint legally and done my part

Dr FUNMILAYO is the accused!

As expected, social media users questioned her further on the accusation, hoping to get enough facts before the doctor is given a ‘social media trial’ just as the case is with many issues of rape brought on the platform.

In a new post she made this evening, Bola Aseyan opened up further on her stay in the UK, giving specific details on how he invited her to the UK.

She wrote:

FACTS!!!

  1. Absolutely None of the pictures or videos of me in the UK were taken by Dr Funmilayo 2. I PAID 100000% for my VISA FEE and FLIGHT TICKETS To and Fro. (NB: with MY money)
  2. Due to our previous relationship, he sent an invitation letter to me and my TRIP was meant to be a 3 week Trip with a flexible return ticket. Unfortunately, the lockdown was enforced.
  3. During the abuse, the Air BnB’s contacted were not accepting bookings and movement was restricted within the UK. 5. I was never a Financial Burden while cohabiting.

Police seek to arrest pornstar after filming sex scene on bus without face mask

A porn star is wanted by police after she filmed a sex scene on a bus without wearing a face mask

The actress, named in reports as Kaori Dominick, filmed the scene in Cali, Colombia.

The video was then uploaded to Pornhub before it was later deleted, after breaking Valle del Cauca regulations that require a mask to be worn at all times on public transport.

In pictures shared online, the woman is seen wearing gloves and a facemask when she is approached by a man as she is buying a ticket for the bus.

Advertisements

The pair agree for her to use a “Lovense” vibrator which is controlled by an application on the man’s phone and he records her while she uses it on the bus.

At some point while using the vibrator, she removed her face mask, and this meant she broke the country’s health rules.

The woman then reportedly gave the man her underwear as a memory as the video ends.

The video is said to have been widely popular before it was taken down and the authorities are now working to confirm the identity of the man and woman in the clip.

Advertisements

The pair could face fines for breaking safety measures ordered during Colombia’s coronavirus lockdown, according to reports.

Oscar Ortiz, the President of Metrocali, the company in charge of buses in the city, said: “The porn video on the bus will be sent to the authorities in order to identify the actors.”

The company added in a statement that the video showed a lack of respect for other bus users.

The police investigation is ongoing and no fines or sanctions have been reported.

She added that age is not necessarily important and that there is no best age to get married.

Funmi Awelewa wrote: “You people should stop asking “when will you get married Morili.” The best time to get married is when you feel comfortable and confident in your job and personal life. News+: Judge ban ‘Tell-All’ book publication written by Trump’s niece.

Advertisements

Atell-all book by President Donald Trump’s niece cannot be published until a judge decides the merits of claims by the president’s brother that its publication would violate a pact among family members, a judge said Tuesday.

New York state Supreme Court Judge Hal B. Greenwald in Poughkeepsie, New York, issued an order requiring the niece, Mary Trump, and her publisher to explain why they should not be blocked from publishing the book: “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.” A hearing was set for July 10.

The book, scheduled to be published July 28, was written by Mary Trump, the daughter of Fred Trump Jr., the president’s elder brother, who died in 1981. An online description of it says it reveals “a nightmare of traumas, destructive relationships, and a tragic combination of neglect and abuse.”

The judge banned “publishing, printing or distributing any book or any portions thereof” before he decides the validity of Robert S. Trump’s claims.

Robert Trump argues Mary Trump must comply with a written agreement among family members who settled a dispute over Fred Trump’s will that a book about them cannot be published without their permission.

Advertisements

Mary Trump’s lawyer, Theodore J. Boutrous Jr., and her publisher, Simon & Schuster, promised an immediate appeal.

“The trial court’s temporary restraining order is only temporary but it still is a prior restraint on core political speech that flatly violates the First Amendment,” Boutrous said.

“This book, which addresses matters of great public concern and importance about a sitting president in an election year, should not be suppressed even for one day,” Boutrous said in a statement.

Adam Rothberg, a Simon & Schuster spokesperson, said the publisher was disappointed but looks forward “to prevailing in this case based on well-established precedents regarding prior restraint.”

Advertisements

Charles Harder, an attorney for Robert Trump, said his client was “very pleased.”

He said in a statement that the actions by Mary Trump and her publisher were “truly reprehensible.”

“We look forward to vigorously litigating this case, and will seek the maximum remedies available by law for the enormous damages,” he said. “Short of corrective action to immediately cease their egregious conduct, we will pursue this case to the very end.”

In court papers, Robert Trump maintained Mary Trump was part of a settlement nearly two decades ago that included a confidentiality clause explicitly saying they would not “publish any account concerning the litigation or their relationship,” unless they all agreed.

Africa Cup Of Nations to start come 2022.

Advertisements

The next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations has been postponed by 12 months, the Confederation of African Football confirmed in their Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday.

The 33rd edition of the biennial tournament was due to begin in Cameroon on January 9 2021, but has now been pushed back to January 2022 due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic across the continent.

NobleSport gathered that Caf’s concerns about the ability to fit in the outstanding qualifiers before the intended start date of January 2021 are behind the decision to postpone, although African football’s governing body have not announced whether the 34th edition of the tournament—scheduled for Ivory Coast in 2023—will also be postponed.

Algeria are the reigning African champions, having defeated Senegal 1-0 in the 2019 final in Cairo.

Advertisements

The tournament was long held during January and February, but moved to a June-July scheduling ahead of the 2019 event, with newly elected president Ahmad Ahmad keen to avoid the club-vs-country disputes that often overshadowed a tournament being played during the European winter.

However, the 2021 tournament’s dates have already been moved once, with the original June-July 2021 dates brought forward to January due to the unfavourable climate in Cameroon during the summer months.

Caf also confirmed that the 2020 African Nations Championship—the biennial tournament for home-based players—will be played next year, having originally been scheduled for April 2020.

Advertisements

The Chan—which was also due to be held in Cameroon—had been indefinitely postponed due to the onset of Covid-19.

Caf’s decision comes after Uefa pushed the 2020 European Championships back by 12 months, while the 2020 Copa America has also been shunted back to a 2021 start date.

Also announced during the meeting, Caf have revealed that the semi-finals of their two continental club competitions—the Champions League and Confederation Cup—will be one-legged affairs moving forward, rather than the home-and-away ties that have been seen previously.

For women’s football across the continent, the 2020 African Women’s Cup of Nations has been cancelled, while Caf have announced the inauguration of a new women’s Champions League, which will begin in 2021.

Storyline: How Akeredolu’s COVID-19 infection could hinder his re-election

Advertisements

For the next 14 day at least, Ondo Gov. Rotimi Akerdolu will lie low, nursing his health to beat the covid-19 virus that invaded his system.

In times like this when every second counts, the Ondo No.1 citizen’s latest health status has a lot of political implications

  1. His primary election campaign team will first experience shock, as all of them we have to go in for tests and isolate themselves for 14 days too.
  2. The psychological impact of this will tamp down the excitement and optimism of his team
  3. His arch enemies, within and outside the APC, will take advantage of that. More importantly, his estranged Dep. Gov. Agboola Ajayi who just defected to the PDP to battle in the coming guber election will get in the saddle. How will Akeredolu hand over to him?
  4. His APC challenger for the party ticket, Kayode Oke, will also take advantage of the disarray in Akeredolu camp to gain some more ground.
  5. If there are no underlining health condition may come back a changed man—very careful in his re-lection drive. After all, thunder must not strike same place twice.

Torino 1-2 Lazio, Captain Immobile helps close juve’s gap

Advertisements

Ciro Immobile gave away an early Torino penalty, but made up for it with the equaliser before Marco Parolo’s deflected strike completed another Lazio comeback.

Simone Inzaghi had to watch from the stands due to a touchline ban, as the Aquile fought to stay in the Scudetto race after Atalanta ended their 21-round unbeaten run with Massimiliano Farris on the bench. Senad Lulic, Luiz Felipe, Lucas Leiva and Bobby Adekanye were still out of action, while Marco Parolo shook off a knock. Torino were struggling just above the relegation zone and Simone Zaza wasn’t fit to start, so Simone Verdi stepped in.

It took just five minutes to break the deadlock, as Ciro Immobile used his arm to charge down Nicolas Nkoulou’s header on a free kick, allowing Andrea Belotti to convert. To make matters worse, the yellow card means Immobile will be suspended for the next match against Milan.

Immobile should’ve made up for his error by equalising on 22 minutes, but after springing the offside trap, he just clipped the crossbar one-on-one with Salvatore Sirigu.

Advertisements

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic also blasted over from a promising position and Felipe Caicedo was booked, so he too will be suspended for the Milan match.

Immobile again fired off target after a quick one-two to burst into the box, while Sirigu took the sting out of a Parolo header at the end of a long Lazio attacking move, raining crosses into the box.

Caicedo sprung the offside trap on a ball over the top, but his first touch let him down. When Francesco Acerbi did get the ball in the net on the stroke of half-time, he was in an offside position.

Immobile did get the equaliser at the dawn of the second half, this time running on to a Luis Alberto through ball and toe-poking it into the far bottom corner, wrong-footing Sirigu.

With 29 goals in 29 Serie A rounds, Immobile is the most prolific striker since Antonio Valentin Angelillo had 31 by this stage in 1959.

Advertisements

Torino were even more pinned back than before, Milinkovic-Savic and Immobile attempts off target, Joaquin Correa’s charged down, then Sirigu used his legs to parry from Milinkovic-Savic.

Eventually, Parolo’s snapshot from the edge of the box took a decisive deflection off Bremer to wrong-foot the goalkeeper at the near post and turn the game around completely.

Correa’s low cross-shot flashed all the way across the face of goal, Sirigu getting just enough on it to turn that away, while Koffi Djidji flung himself in the path of another Correa attempt.

Torino finally put some pressure on in the last five minutes, but it was too little, too late, and Lazio again picked up all three points from a trailing situation.

Keyamo tackle lawmakers | See Reasons.

Advertisements

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has disagreed with the purported suspension of selection process of 774,000 jobs by a National Assembly Joint Committees on Labour.

In a statement signed by Keyamo on Tuesday, he said the lawmakers had suggested that they ought to have an input on how the Special Public Works programme

“In other words, they sought to control the programme as to who gets what, where and how. However, I insisted that I could not surrender the programme to their control since their powers under the constitution does not extend to that. They insisted on a closed door session.

“I was then asked to apologize for insisting on a public interaction and I said there was nothing to apologize about, because their powers to expose corruption provided for in section 88 of the Constitution cannot be exercised in private. As such, there was no need to apologize by insisting on a Constitutional provision. Even their Rules that may provide for private hearings on public matters cannot override the provisions of the Constitution. I was then permitted to leave. I took a bow and left. I NEVER walked out on the respected Committees as they may want to bend the narrative.

“After I left, I understand that the Joint Committees purportedly suspended the work of the Selection Committees nationwide until they decide how the programme should be run and who should be in those Committees. My opinion is that it is tantamount to challenging the powers of Mr. President.

Keyamo explained that the committee has no power to suspend a programme by the executive, stressing that their powers under section 88 of the 1999 Constitution is only limited to investigations, but NOT TO GIVE ANY DIRECTIVE TO THE EXECUTIVE.

“A Committee or Committees of both Houses do not even have powers to pass binding Resolutions. They can only make recommendations to Plenary. In this case, even Plenary CANNOT give DIRECTIVES to the Executive.

“I therefore, respectfully further direct all the Committees set up nationwide made up of CAN, NSCIA, NURTW, Market Women, CSOS, Youth Organisations, respected traditional rulers, etc to proceed with their work unhindered. Only Mr. President can stop their work,” he added.

COVID-19: Profitability threat hit Banks in Nigeria

Advertisements

The profitability of Nigerian Banks in the medium term may be under threat following rising inflation and increased government borrowing that was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Report gathered exclusively by Noble Reporters Media released recently by Fitch Solutions that the banks are expected to grow in the medium term, but the rate of growth would be determined by the effects of inflation and government’s borrowing from the banks.

The report stated that due to COVID-19 pandemic and a weakened oil sector, there would be a deceleration of client loan growth from 14.0 per cent y-o-y in 2019 to 2.5 per cent in 2020, before a small pickup to 4.3 per cent in 2021.

Similarly, the demand for credit would weaken amid reduced economic activity and elevated uncertainty among consumers and businesses while deteriorating asset quality will make banks more cautious in issuing loans.

In the meantime, Fitch Solutions has revised its earlier 2020 growth forecast for Nigerian banks, including their total banking asset growth. The decision to change the earlier forecast was made out of consideration for the economic shortfalls caused by the pandemic.

Recall that Nigeria’s adoption of the IFRS 9 accounting standards for bad loans had considerably helped to improve asset quality in the banking sector. As a matter of fact, the ratio of non-performing loans had declined by as much as 40.7 per cent between Q4 2018 and Q4 2019.

Unfortunately, the pandemic and the dramatic fall in oil prices earlier this year, all combined to negate the recent recorded success. This is why banks’ asset quality is projected to deteriorate this year, according to Fitch Solutions. This will also make banks become more cautious about lending.

“We continue to expect the changed minimum loan requirement to help drive client loan growth over the medium term. We have revised our growth forecast from the previous quarter and expect client loans to reach NGN14.9trn in 2020 with growth of 2.5 per cent from 2019.

“Due to economic headwinds caused by the coronavirus pandemic, we have revised our forecast for total banking asset growth to 5.3 per cent to NGN44.2trn. Over the medium term, we see average annual asset growth of 12.0 per cent to NGN63.8trn by 2024.

“Nigeria’s ratio of non-performing loans (NPLs) tied to the oil sector declined by 40.7 per cent from Q418 to Q419 as oil exports rose by 16.1 per cent in 2019. In turn, the total NPL ratio fell from 11.7 per cent to 6.0 per cent over this period. However, due to the combined economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and lower oil price, we expect asset quality to deteriorate this year, making banks more cautious about lending.”

Ebonyi community lament over bad road

Advertisements

Indigenous people of Ibii community in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi have called on the state government’s urgent intervention over the deplorable condition of their roads.

They are also calling for restoration of power supply to the community.

The Ibii community made the call in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to them, the community has suffered abandonment for years, even before creation of the state.

Ebonyi was created in October 1996 from the old Abakaliki division of Enugu State and old Afikpo division of Abia.

Mr Nelson Otu, an indigene of the community residing in Abuja, said the people of Ibii, an agrarian community, had suffered long years of neglect particularly the bad roads, making their daily survival a difficult task.

Otu said the people depended on proceeds from their farm produce for their livelihoods.

He, however, lamented that Ibii road that traverses the community to Afikpo town and the one that connects it to Akpoha community has been in deplorable state for many years.

He noted that the bad road network often limited expected income from their agricultural produce such as rice, cassava and yam, saying their worst nightmares were during the rainy season.

“So, we are calling on Gov. David Umahi to please come to our aid.

“The major road that connects us to the state is so bad; if not for community effort we would have been cut off completely.

“They should do something. We are an agrarian community and our people are finding it difficult to transport our agricultural products to other areas,” he said.

Mr Kelechi Ability, a Technical Assistant to the Governor on Attitudinal Change, said that besides bad roads, “the community also suffers from lack of power supply.”

Ability, therefore, called on the community representatives in the National Assembly and state House of Assembly for intervention.

“We call on the state government to intervene in our plights, especially in the area of electricity and road network as we’ve been cut off from our brother communities in the state.

“We make bold to say that since 1999, PDP has never failed any election in our community, but the height of neglect and marginalisation is heartbreaking,” he said.
