Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of Mauro Icardi on a permanent deal after triggering their option to sign the Argentine from Inter.

Icardi joined PSG on loan last summer and racked up 20 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions before Ligue 1 was postponed.

Paris Saint-Germain are delighted to announce the signing of Mauro Icardi on a permanent deal, following the striker’s loan from Inter Milan during the 2019-2020 season.https://en.psg.fr/teams/first-team/content/mauro-icardi-signs-paris-saint-germain-contract-until-30-june-2024-official-psg

That form prompted reports stating PSG had decided to make his move permanent before the clause expired on 31 May, and the French side took to their official website to confirm that Icardi will remain at the Parc des Prices for the foreseeable future.

“Paris Saint-Germain are delighted to announce the signing of Mauro Icardi on a permanent deal, following the striker’s loan from Inter during the 2019-2020 season,” a statement read.

“The 27-year-old Argentina international (8 caps), who also holds an Italian passport, has signed a four-year deal with the capital club until 30 June 2024.

“The Rosario-born player is the 16th Argentinian player in the history of Paris Saint-Germain, and has made 31 appearances for the Rouge et Bleu in the 2019-2020 season, picking up a Ligue 1 winner’s medal, scoring 20 goals and providing 4 assists.”

There is no fee mentioned in the deal, but a previous report noted that PSG had negotiated a discount on their initial agreement and struck a deal worth €50m plus an additional €7m in add-ons, rather than the €70m which was agreed last summer.

Inter are also said to have inserted an anti-Juventus clause in the contract to ensure he does not join Juventus in the near future, while the Nerazzurri are also expected to receive a portion of any future sale.

For Icardi, it brings an official end to a tumultuous seven-year spell on the books at San Siro, in which he blossomed into a lethal scorer but consistently faced questions over his attitude – something which NobleSport’s own Adigun Daniel Ayomide has discussed in great detail.

He departs having racked up 124 goals in 219 appearances for Inter, and he is now set to continue firing in goals in Paris.
