Atletico Madrid are looking to steal a march on Edinson Cavani and will offer him a two-year deal worth £10million per season, reports in Spain claim.
The Uruguayan’s contract at PSG is up this summer and he is being heavily linked with a move away from Paris, with Atletico the most likely destination.
And now Mundo Deportivo have reported that manager Diego Simeone sees Cavani as the perfect fit to lead the line for his team next season, with the Madrid outfit offering the 33-year-old a two-year deal.
It was believed that Cavani would move on in January to give PSG an opportunity to cash in on a player who has netted 200 goals in 300 games since arriving in the French capital.
But despite being linked with a move to the Premier League and LaLiga, Cavani ended up staying put amid reports that Atletico could not agree a fee.
Now he is almost certainly heading for the exit door as the expiry date on his deal looms.
Simeone is targeting a new striker next season, according to the report, and after failing to land Cavani in January he is keen to ensure the club wins the race for his signature.
As it stands they are the favourites to sign him although there should be plenty of suitors – with the chance to sign such a high-calibre forward on a bosman.
Last month it was reported that Cavani would be open to staying with PSG, with L’Equipe claiming that he could be persuaded into signing an extension.
Cavani has won an impressive 19 trophies during his seven-season stay in France, writing his name into PSG folklore. He is the all-time leading goalscorer in the history of the club.
