NECO releases 2019 Nov/Dec results

The National Examination Council NECO has announced the release of results for 2019 November/December Senior School Certificate Examination SSCE.

This is coming exactly forty nine (49) days after the last paper was written, as the examination was conducted from Monday, 18th November to Wednesday, 18th December 2019.

A statement signed and made available to Journalists by the acting Registrar of NECO, Abubakar Mohammed Gana made these known.

The statement also revealed that a total number of twenty nine (29) subjects were examined.

A total number of 70,140 candidates registered for the examinations.

A total number of 65,207 candidates sat for English Language out of which 41,214, representing 63% made Distinction and Credit.

66,398 candidates sat for Mathematics, out of which 54,565, representing 82.18% made Distinction and Credit.

33,576 candidates, representing 48.68% got five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

On the other hand, 50,057 candidates, representing 72.57% got Five Credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.

A comparative analysis of candidates who scored five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics further revealed that, 2018 and 2019 shows 62.48% for 2018 and 48.68% for 2019, representing a decrease of 13.8% in 2019.

The council also stated that not all candidates required Credit in either English Language or Mathematics or both.

Concerning candidate’s involvement in various forms of malpractice in 2019 when compared to 2018 the council said, there was an increase in the number of candidates booked for malpractice, while 12,084 cases were recorded in 2018, 17,004 cases were recorded in 2019.

According to the council, “This came about as a result of the comprehensive monitoring by senior staff”
