Goodbye to ‘Naira Notes’ as Nigeria set to launch new Currency in 2020.

In 2020, Nigeria will be saying bye bye to the Naira as its official currency, as it adopts a new currency called the ‘Eco’.

The ‘Eco’ is a single currency that will be adopted by West African countries as from next year as part of the sub-region’s greater structural reforms.

Here are 7 things you should know about the ‘Eco’ before it is officially adopted by the Federal Republic of Nigeria;

17 West African countries will adopt the Eco currency when it will be released. These countries are Benin Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Saint Helena, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

The Eco is expected to be adopted on the first of July 2020, but since the concept arose in 2003, the target launch date for the currency has been postponed several times: in 2005, 2010 and 2014. Countries in the franc region and other West African nations such as Nigeria and Ghana, which have their own currencies, have for decades debated creating their own currency, the Eco.

With the adoption of the Eco next year,

French speaking West African countries will ditch the CFA Franc, known as “Colonies Francaises d’Afrique,” which was established in 1945 and pegged to the Euro since 1999.

The official symbol for the Eco will be ‘Ec’.

According to reports, the Eco notes will feature great African legends and showcase features of West Africa.

The official bank for the sub-region’s currency will be known as the Central Bank of West Africa (CBWA).

There is no official value for the Eco currency yet.

A specific launch date for the Eco has not yet been announced but it has been speculated that January 2020 is when the single currency will be launched.

I did not get JFK’s shirt – Kim Kardashian slams rumour.

Kim Kardashian has slammed reports that she bought her daughter North West the bloody shirt worn by President John F Kennedy on the day he died.

The rumours that Kim bought North John Kennedy’s bloody shirt came after it was revealed that she bought North Micheal Jackson’s jacket for Christmas.

A fake photo which appeared to be from Kim’s Instagram stories showed JFK’s white and grey pin-striped shirt torn and covered with blood.

The caption read: “Along with the Michael Jackson’s jacket and hat, North also got the shirt John F. Kennedy wore when he was assassinated.”

Reacting to the viral photo, Kim tweeted: “WOW this is obviously fake!… I did not get JFK’s shirt. That is a sick joke that someone tweeted as a fake ig story that I never posted.”

Kim Kardashian slams reports that she bought JFK

It comes after Kim, 39, revealed that she and husband Kanye West had bought North items belonging to late Michael Jackson at auction as a Christmas present.

The six-year-old now owns the iconic jacket which Jackson wore at Elizabeth Taylor’s 65th birthday and to the Cannes Film Festival in 1997.

Kim and Kanye bought the jacket for $65,625 at auction in October. The couple also purchased Michael Jackson’s white Smooth Criminal hat worn in the song’s iconic music video and it still has his make-up stains on it.

“For Christmas, Kanye and I gave North this jacket, and this was Michael Jackson’s jacket that he wore with Elizabeth Taylor. North is a really big Michael Jackson fan, and we knew she would love this.” Kim told her followers.

“So we won this on auction for Northy for Christmas and we had it like, tacked up so she can wear it.”

Kim added: “I’m obsessed with auctions and my brother is the biggest Elvis Presley fan so I got him two of Elvis’s rings for Christmas!”

Mother and 30 year daughter died from cleansing concoction given by prophet.

An unmarried Zimbabwean woman and her mother have died after they allegedly drank a lethal concoction that was given to them by a self-proclaimed prophet.

According to iHarare, Ms. Sithandazile Nyathi, 30 and her mother Ms. Thokozani Ncube, 51, who are based in South Africa died shortly after drinking a ‘cleansing’ concoction they allegedly got from a prophet named Brian Mpofu from Cowdray Park suburb over the weekend. The mother, Ms. Ncube, had accompanied her daughter to see the prophet.

It was claimed in the report that the duo had approached the prophet to express Sithandazile’s problems including marriage pressures as suitors were not coming for her.

The deceased’s aunt, Seyiso Ncube, revealed that Sithandaziles had been in contact with the prophet since she was in South Africa.

Speaking to the publication, Ms. Ncube’s sister, Ms. Elizabeth Ncube said:

‘We were not there when this occurred but what we have been told is that they went to consult a prophet in Cowdray Park on Saturday. Sithandazile is the one who sought the services of the prophet and requested her mother to accompany her. They went there with our 15-year-old nephew who narrated to us what really transpired.

He said the prophet gave the three of them some substance to induce vomiting claiming that he was casting out a bad spell. After that, he gave them a concoction consisting of bluestone, aloe vera, and lemon which he said they were going to drink at home the following day before eating anything.

Prior to drinking the mixture, we are told that the prophet sent them a message, instructing them not to give it to the boy but share his dosage. Soon after drinking the mixture they started complaining that it was making them bleary, complaining of stomach cramps. Sithandazile instructed the boy to give her a bucket so that she could induce vomiting.

My sister was of the view that probably that was how the medicine worked and she did not attempt to induce vomiting. When the boy brought the bucket, Sithandazile was already struggling to breathe prompting the boy to call his uncle who is my late sister’s husband.

We are told before my sister’s husband could attend to Sithandazile, he discovered that his wife (my sister) was not responding when he called her in her bedroom and when he went in to check on her he discovered that she had white fluids coming out through her mouth and nose.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango also confirmed that they are investigating the issue.

‘Yes, we received a case where mother and her daughter died after drinking some poisonous substance they were given by a self-proclaimed prophet. I can’t say much at the moment as it could jeopardize our investigations. We have, however, arrested a suspect in connection with the pair’s death.’
